SQL Server Versus Pervasive SQL/2000

Hi there,
Don't know if anyone can help,
There used to be a Whitepaper on the Microsoft website comparing SQL server (2000?) against Pervasive SQL or 2000, the link was http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/sql/.
But it's not working anymore.
Does anyone have a copy of this paper, or know where it's now located? I've been looking for hours and can't find it.
Thanks in advance.

Jezza,
Is this still an issue?

  • Error updating data source from SQL Server ODBC into SQL Native Client 10.0

I am converting Crystal 8.5 reports into Crystal XI release 2. The data source was ODBC using SQL Server 2000 and pointing to a stored procedure. In the new server the data source has to be ODBC again, but it uses the SQL Native Client 10.0 Driver, because the new server is SQL Server 2008. I have copied the same old stored procedure on the new server and it works fine as a data source to a brand new Crystal XI report. But when I am opening an existing 8.5 version crystal report and updating the data source to the new location I get the error message "Some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the new data source".
I thought I could tackle this error by creating a temporary data source using the standard ODBC SQL Driver linked to the SQL 2008 Server instead of the SQL Native Client 10 ODBC. So I first updated the crystal data source to link to this temp ODBC using SQL Driver and it worked fine. But after that, when I try to update the data source to link to the SQL Native Client 10 ODBC, I get the same error again.
So I guess that the problem is not the new server itself, but the switch between SQL Server ODBC and SQL Native Client 10 ODBC.
Does anyone know what's going on with this SQL Native Client 10 in updating crystal report data sources?

CR XI does not support that driver. Try selecting the Native driver or upgrade to CR XI R2 for free and use SP4, 5 and 6 and then FP 6.4 or upgrade to CR 2008 and SP 3 and Fix Pack 3.3
    Thank you

select parent, offspring from table_family start by offspring='child1' connect by parent=PRIOR offspring I had this problem some time ago. I don`t found an eqivalent on MS-SQL-server 7.0. So I wrote a T-SQL procedure wich calls itself recusively. ( I don`t have the souce-code any more ).
I don4t know if there is an equivalent on MS-SQL-server 2000.

  • Difference between database features - SQL Server 2008 R2 navtive vs SQL Server 2012 with SQL Server 2008 compatibility set?

I am investigating the impact of upgrading from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012. To reduce the impact of the upgrade, I am planning to restore / create our application database onto SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 (SQL Server 2008 and
    SQL Server 2008 R2).
Are there any differences in feature support for database running in native mode on SQL Server 2008 R2 vs a database installed on SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 set?

    Help,
setup a new sql server 2012 on a windows 2012r2 server to replace old sql server 2005 on an old windows server 2003 machine.  When i test the ODBC connection locally on the server it works fine, however when i try to connect via windows 7 client machine
    i get the following error:
    Connection failed:

I think it must be a permissions thing, I've turned off the firewall for now and still no difference, 've also made sure remote connection is enabled.  I can connect to the other sql server in studio manager on the new machine however, i can't go do
the same in the old server, says:
    cannot connect to hbfsqlpro1\hbfsqlpro1

the instance is def correct, as that is what i use to connect locally on the new machine and what it comes up on the studio manager on the new machine.  STarting to pull my hair out somewhat, i'm sure it's something really simple!

    Hello,
You are trying to connect to a named instance. Make sure the SQL Server Browser service is started on the SQL Server computer.
    Make sure TCP/IP is enabled.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191294(v=sql.110).aspx
Try to disable Windows Firewall or security software on both, SQL Server instance and client computer.
Test basic connectivity too. Try to ping from the client computer to the SQL Server computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Hi, I've seen questions about this error posted elsewhere but I'm not sure if the same issues applied.
I'm trying to connect to SQL Server from a VBA macro in excel. I've managed to do this with the code below where my query is return to cells in my active worksheet but for another query I want to run the data to be return is too large for Excel to handle
and so I'd like to save it as a .csv file but using the second example of my code I get the message "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied". Since I have access to this database from the first example
of the code, I assume my conn.ConnectionString line of code is letting me down.
    Can anyone help me please?

  • ODBC Error when migrating from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Anywhere 12

    Hello community,
    i have the following requirement:
I need to migrate a Database with some Demo data into a SQL Anywhere 12 Database. The SQL Anywhere 12 Database is part of the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP7 installation and came with the same as OEM Product.
The Environment looks like the following:
    DB1 is a MS SQL Server 2008 R2 64 Bit running on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 Bit.
DB2 is the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP7 installation with the shipped SQL Anywhere 12 (12.0.1.3873) Database running on SLES 11.3 64 Bit
CL1 is my Windows 7 64 Bit Client where Sybase Central is installed in 64 Bit. On CL1 i have a 64 Bit System ODBC Connection connecting to DB1 successfully.
Basically i followed the following (pretty straight forward) tutorial:
Migrating a SQL Server Database to SQL Anywhere White Paper-Technical: Mobile Enterprise, Database Management iAnywhere …
When i want to test the connection from inside Sybase Central (During the migration process) i receive the following error:
From inside Sybase Central my connection looks as follows:
And from the ODBC Manager the connection looks as follows:
Personally i found is strange that the Sybase ODBC Driver Manager drops the error. I would expect that the MS SQL ODBC Driver Manager pops the error it its related to the ODBC DSN to DB1.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks and Regards
    -Seb.

    Hi Sebastian,
The data from the SQL Server database must be migrated to an existing SQL Anywhere database.  Could you please tell me where this SQL Anywhere database resides and how are you connecting to it?
The error message is saying that the connection to the SQL Anywhere remote database server is failing, as opposed to the connection to the SQL Server database.

To be specific to your question. You can very well attach SQL 2005 database to SQL server 2008 and SQL server 2012.But how your application will respond to New database will be difficult to tell.

does the domain user need to  be SYSADMIN ????

    No. not at all required.
Service account should have below permissions to start SQL service and Agent services.
Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
    Replace a process-level token (SeAssignPrimaryTokenPrivilege)
    Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
Adjust memory quotas for a process (SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
    Permission to start SQL Writer
Permission to read the Event Log service
Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service

  • Service Account for SQL Server Agent on SQL Server 2008 R2

This SQL Server instance is SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.50.4000).  We had Active Domain Service accounts created to run the service accounts for SQL Server and SQL Server Agent.
It has become company policy to alter the service accounts that run SQL Server and SQL Server Agent.  Currently, both were running under the Local System Accounts.  We have altered the SQL Server but we are having issues with the SQL Server Agent.
I am told by another DBA that
"The agent is requiring elevated rights.  It will startup if it has local admin rights, but not with domain accounts without admin rights."
So I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue and how did they resolve it.
    lcerni

"The agent is requiring elevated rights.  It will startup if it has local admin rights, but not with domain accounts without admin rights."
This is completely not true. It is indeed possible to run agent as a domain account without giving it local admin. Chances are you'll need to update the local acls by adding the account to the local security groups. Please see this article for more information:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504(v=sql.105).aspx
Edit: In addition, it'll need rights to SQL server for that account to connect and do its work. It will need to be given sysadmin:

Yes it is possible but database size should not be greater than 10 G as max databse size supported for Express 2012 is 10 G

  • Problem when connecting sql server 2005 using SQL developer

    Hi,
I installed Sql developer and I am trying to connect sql server 2005 using windows authentication. I had previously the SSO folder problem saying the path is missing in java.library.path. I copied the SSO folder into Sqldeveloper directory. I changed the settings under computer management->services and applications->sql server configuration manager->sql server 2005 network configuration ->protocols for sqlexpress->I enabled TCP/IP.
Now I am getting an error saying "Failure-can not open user default database.Login Failed. Login failed for user ...".
I am able to connect thru ODBC driver using windows authentication.
Any help on this is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lakshmi

    Hi Martin,
Your solution has solved my problem too. Thanks for posting these workaround fixes :-)
However, there seem to be a problem with datetime fields. The query:
    select getdate()
    returns something like: oracle.datetimestamp.@1aed4
Is there a way to get around with this? Otherwise, using SQL Developer as a client for SQL Server doesn't serve the right purpose when we cannot access simple date fields :-)

  • What is the recommended static port range for SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2014 named instance?

I want to assign a static port to SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2014 named instance.   Should the port be greater than 49151?  The following links give contradicting information:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177440(v=sql.105).aspx
Avoid numbers greater than 49151 which Windows might select for other purposes.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345327(v=sql.100).aspx
Port numbers should be assigned from numbers 49152 through 65535
    Thanks..

I would still pick a port number below the ephemeral list (dynamic port usage [41952-65535]) as it'll reduce the chances of having a port collision when SQL Server starts up.
Also, I'd stick to lower numbers if possible (<25,000) as some firewalls skew higher port numbers to be more malicious (if heuristics are used).
