SSRS to export report as "structured" csv file (of sorts) . . .

I'm trying to use SQL Server Reporting Services (SQL Server 2008 R2) to produce a CSV file.  Row 1 in the CSV has to be a summary row with 8 columns.  The detail rows which follow have 24 columns.  The data in the summary row is "static"
except for a date, a count of detail rows, and a total amount due based on the detail rows that follow.  Here's an example of what we need it to look like:
HDR,4242,0,1,20150203,25,I,25823.18,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
DTL,4242,0,1,20150203,255092,20150129,989,C,Net 0,Due Upon Receipt,12703,Some Super Customer,1001 Grandview Dr,,SomeCity,TX,US,75012,9729990000,,,,
DTL,4242,0,1,20150203,255093,20150129,1360,C,Net 0,Due Upon Receipt,23774,Another Awesome Customer,52 Six Flags Dr,,DeepInTheHeart,TX,US,76006,8174445555,,,,
I've been able to get the report itself to render correctly in Visual Studio or from a browser using several different approaches but they all fail in one way or another when I try to save it as a CSV (eg, a header is prepended to each detail so they end up
side by side, header and detail end up with extra columns, etc).
I'm clearly a far cry from an SSRS expert but this seems like it should be easy.  Can someone who
is an SSRS expert (or at least knows more than me) give me a hint or two?  Can this even be done?
thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there -
Thanks for your response.  I apologize for the delay.  I think the
difference in your screenshot and my scenario is that I have a "header" row of sorts whereas you have no such row.  In my scenario, the first row of the CSV file must have a record type of "TRL".  This row summarizes certain elements
of the rows to follow which are of record type "DTL".  Specifically, the TRL row, provides a total number of DTL rows in its 6th column and a total dollar amount of the DTL rows in its 8th column.  See here for an example:
So in the report shown above, there are 177 DTL rows with a total dollar amount of $301,646.20 and it looks to be in the right format/structure.
However, when I export it to CSV, this is what I get:
Hopefully that demonstrates the situation but if not, let me know.

  • Ssrs 2008 export to excel and csv file

In a ssrs 2008 report, the user will export data to PDF, excel, and CSV files. When the report is exported to excel or csv file, the user wants me to hide some tablixes. Thus can you show me code on how to export the reports to csv or excel file without
and be able to hide a few tablixes?

    Hi jazz_dog,
According to your description, you want to set the visibility for some tablixes based on the exporting file type. Right?
In Reporting Services 2008, we don't have any parameter to get type of exporting file. So we can only create a parameter and select a type before exporting to a file. Then use conditional expression to control the visibility. It's definitely not a good workaround,
so your goal can't be achieved in Reporting Services 2008. However, for Reporting Service 2008R2 or later version, we have a build-in parameter called Render Format Name, this parameter will display the type of exporting file automatically. So we can make
the judgment in expression based on the value of this parameter.

  • Ssrs 2012 export to comma delimited (csv) file problem

In an ssrs 2012 report, I want to be able to export all the data to a csv (comma delimited) file that only contains the detailed row information. I do not want to export any rows that contain header data information.
Right now the export contains header row information and detail row information. The header row information exists for the PDF exports.
To have the header row not exist on CSV exports, I have tried the following options on the tablix with the header row information with no success:
    1. = iif(Mid(Globals!RenderFormat.Name,1,5)<>"EXCEL",false,true),
    2. = iif(Mid(Globals!RenderFormat.Name,1,3)="PDF",false,true),
    3. The textboxes that contain the column headers, the dataelelementoutput=auto and
the text boxes that contain the actual data, I set the dataelelementoutput=output.
Basically I need the tablix that contains the header information not to appear when the export is for a csv file.
However when the export is for the detail lines for the csv export, I need that tablix to show up.
Thus can you tell me and/or show me code on how to solve this problem?

    Hi wendy,
Based on my research, the expression posted by Ione used to hide items only work well when render format is RPL or MHTML. Because only the two render format’s RenderFormat.IsInteractive is true.
In your scenario, you want to hide tablix header only when export the report to csv format. While CSV file uses the textbox name in detail section as the column name, not the table header when you view the table. So if we want to hide the header row of the
tablix, please refer to the steps below to enable the “NoHeader” setting in the RSReportserver.config file:
    Please navigate to RSReportserver.config file: <drive:>\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS1111.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer \RSReportserver.config.
Backup the RSReportserver.config file before we modify it, open the RSReportserver.config file with Notepad format.
In the <Render> section, add the new code for the CSV extension like this:
        < Extension Name="CSV"   Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering">
            <Configuration>
                <DeviceInfo>
                   <NoHeader>True</NoHeader>
                </DeviceInfo>
            </Configuration>
        < /Extension>
    Save the RSReportserver.config file.

  • Unable to save the webi report results in CSV file in XIR2 environment

    Hi Team,
We have one WebI report in BOXIR2 version and it fetching nearly 76+ records in the report. The report is running fine without any issues and when i am trying to export the results into CSV file we are getting the error msg (Maximum Binary file size exceeded WIS30271). The file size is more than 80MB and hence it throwing this error. I have checked the Maximun Binary File size that is set in CMC and it is set to 80MB.
When i ran the same query in the database and exporting the results in to csv file the file size is under 80MB. I would like to know the reason why there is a difference in the file size when running the query manually in database and exporting in to csv file and to export the results set in to csv through business objects.

Below are the possible causes to get this error message:
1] When a large Web Intelligence report is exported to CSV format, we get error: Max Binary file size limit exceeded. The document is too large to be processed by the server. Error WIS 30271
    Cause
This error message appears because BusinessObjects Enterprise allows documents to be saved with the limit specified for Web Intelligence Report server settings in the Central Management Console(CMC).
To resolve the error follow the below steps:
    - Login to Central Management Console (CMC) using BusinessObjects Enterprise "Administrator".
    - Navigate to "Home >> Servers".
    - Click on "Web Intelligence Report Server" to open its properties.
    - Increase the "Maximum Binary File Size"(Default value=50 MBytes; Maximum value = 65535 MBytes).
    - Click on "Apply" and then on "Update".
    - Allow the Web Intelligence server to restart.
2] In Web Intelligence, when attempting to save a report to Excel or Portable Document Format  (PDF), the following error message appears:
"Max binary file size limit exceeded. The document is too large to be processed by the server. Contact your database administrator. (Error: WIS 30271)".
    Cause:
This error message appears because Business Objects Enterprise allows documents to be saved up to the limit set for Web Intelligence Report Server in the Central Management Console (CMC).  The default file size limit is 50 megabytes for binary file types like PDF and Excel.
To resolve this error message, you will need to increase the Max Binary file size value.
    1.      Open the CMC.
    2.      Browse to Servers
    3.      Click on your Web Intelligence Report Server.
    4.      On the Properties page, increase the Maximum Binary File Size.
    5.      Apply the setting and allow the Web Intelligence Report Server to restart.
Increasing these values too high could impact Web Intelligence performance when users attempt to save excessively large files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Data getting truncated while exporting report to a text file in crystal 10?

    Hi All,
I am using crystal 10.When exporting report to a text file ,a dialog prompts asking for Character perinch with a default value 9.If I change the value from 9 to 16 i am getting the correct data(that means character per inch value is 16) and it update "CharPerInch" value in registry under following location to 16.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Decisions\10.0\Crystal Reports\Export\Text
The dialog asked for character per inch also has option to select not to prompt again and i also selected that in first go.
When i export the report again in text format it didn't prompt for number of character per inch but the data gets truncated.
What i believe is even though it updates entry in registry and reads, it is not using the same value for export. It never consider the value that is in registry, if the check box is not selected then it is using the value entered in the dialog and if the check box is selected then in the next run it uses the default value as 9.
Can anyone suggest me how to override this problem ? Is there any other setting place in registry where i can enter the number of character per inch.I don't want to crystal to prompt always for character per inch.

    Hi Venkateswaran,
The other option to avoid truncation of the data could be
    Right click the text filed
Click on Format Text to open the Format Editor
On Common tab check the text box for Can Grow.
This will prevent the data from truncating in preview as well as while exporting to text.
Otherwise you will have to set the characters per inch to 16 each time. I donu2019t see changing the registry value causing any difference here.

  • How to export data to multiple csv files?

    Hey Scripting Guys,
As stated by the name I'm a novice at scripting.  Typically I'm able to resolve most of my scripting challenges by reading through your site or scouring the internet.  This challenge I haven't been able to resolve.  Please help!!
I'm running a script (posted below) to grab data and export it to a csv file.  My challenge is that I want to run the script daily via task manager and have it create a new csv file either daily or weekly.  I'm having trouble with the scripting
creating a new csv file.  How do I resolve this?
It would be beneficial to append the date to a standard file name, ex. c:\exportedcsv7-11-2014.csv; the next day it would be c:\exportedcsv7-12-2014.csv; and so on.
Thank you in advance to any assistance.

Thank you for the information and the tip.  I took your advice and did some research on Strings, something that I do have trouble grasping.  I'm familiar with variables already and feel comfortable using them.  I also need to study .Net which
    I totally don't understand.
Since I appreciate your advice and guidance I'd like to know if I'm on the correct track.  Please look at my breakdown to see if I'm explaining it correctly.
    $d=Get-Date
Here a variable is being created using the Get-Date cmdlet, if we execute $d the date will appear
    $d.ToString('dd-MM-yyyy')
This converts the date into the format dd-MM-yyyy.
I took the information and tips you provided then came up with this after reading about strings.
    export-csv -notype "c:\folder\vmds_$($d.ToString('MM-dd-yyyy')).csv"
The double quotes evaluate the variables.  The single quotes do not evaluate anything they just show what's inside of them (a.k.a. literal string). The $() evaluate the expression in ('MM-dd-yyyy') before writing it.
You are correct I definitely need to strengthen the foundation of my basics.  Thank you for the direction and advice.

  • Export batch data into CSV file using SQL SP

    Hi,
I have created WCF-Custom receive adapter to poll Sql SP (WITH xmlnamespaces(DEFAULT 'Namespace' and For XML PATH(''), Type) . Get the result properly in batch while polling and but getting error while converting into CSV by using map.
Please can anyone give me some idea to export SQL data into CSV file using SP.

    How are you doing this.
You would have got XML representation for the XML batch received from SQL
You should have a flat-file schema representing the CSV file which you want to send.
Map the received XML representation of data from SQL to flat-file schema
have custom pipeline with flat-file assembler on the assembler stage of the send pipeline.
In the send port use the map which convert received XML from SQL to flat file schema and use the above custom flat-file disassembler send port

  • How to extract data from an arbitrary xml file and export in a nice csv file?

    Hallo,
I'm facing big problems in the use of XML files. I have an

What I'm trying to do is to access the element of the cluster and read their content using the Invoke node and Property node functions. Could you give it a look, there may be something wrong, I'm not able to access cluster children.
Which funcions should I use? Could you give me an example? You may use the draft I enclosed...
Then write these data in a csv file

  • APEX BUG in export report region  to CSV

Upgraded to APEX 4.1 but I have the same problem !!!!
    any help ????

    ==============================================
    Hy all,
I have a Classic report based on a PLSQL function returning SQL query. (APEX 4.0)
The query is like this (it is just an example; at the bottom of the post I attach my real query)
    select * from (select c1,c2,c3
    from table1
    where c1 in (select c from table2 where ct2 = :P0_ITEM1)
    where instr(upper(c2),upper(nvl(:P5_REPORT_SEARCH,"c2"))) > 0
where P0_ITEM1 is an item in page 0 and P5_REPORT_SEARCH is an item in my page (where I have the report) used to "filter" the rows.
The report is OK; it is correctly displayed and the number of rows are correct (filtered by the where clause)
but when i try to export it to CSV i get a wong number of rows.
It seems that the where conditions (both) are NOT applied and in the CSV file I get all the rows of my table1.
The report have 2 break colum (c1 and C2).
Any idea of what is wrong ?

  • Error while refreshing a report using local csv file

    Hi,
    I'm using BI 4.1 SP02.
While using Rich client, I've created a report with some merged queries, while one of the queries is a local CSV file - saved on AD in some server, and not on the repository inside BO.
While trying to refresh the report with the Rich client, it all went great.
Now, while using BI Launchpad java based app, I can't refresh the report - I get the following error:
"An Internal error occurred while calling 'processDPCommandsEx' API. (Error: ERR_WIS_30270) (WIS 30270)"
Should I be able to refresh a report without the Rich if it contains a local file (which is possible to EDIT only with rich) ?
If so, then did someone ran into this error?
    Thank you,
    Or.

First of all, thanks for both of the replies.
    Second,
my problem is unlikely have to do something with permissions from one reasons -
when the report is using XLS\XLSX on same folder(with same name prefix) - the report is running without any problem.
Only problem is while refreshing without Rich while the source is network CSV file.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Exporting Address Book to .csv file

I am trying to export my contacts from Address Book to a ".csv" file. The only export options I am seeing are "Export vCard file..." and "Back-up Address Book". I find it very hard to believe that there isn't a way for me to extract my contacts and view them in a spreadsheet format. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Hi aritschfox, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Might give this a try...

  • How can I export metadata to a csv file in CS4?

Help please, I used Workflow Automation Scripts on CS3 but it doesn't seem to work on CS4.

    OK,
after combing through these posts and trying various 'solutions' I have found that the Barred Rock export metadata script is the only one I have been able to get to work in CS4, kinda. It is a superior script to the original workflow automation script that edo75 refers to, as it does not seem to have the comma issue encountered by jesse and others, where if there are any commas in your metadata it creates a new column and your excel file becomes nonsensical and disorganized. There is a way to avoid this by the way, simply by opening a new file in excel and importing the csv file as text, you then tell excel to read the data the right way by selecting various delimiter combinations. It is not a perfect solution but I have found that by doing this it places most of my metadata in the proper columns, and I end up doing a minimal amount of editing. The barred rock version, which I assume is a modified version of the original script available from adobe as the interface is exactly the same, does not seem to have this issue with commas at all, I am unsure why. If B. Stucky is still reading these posts he may be able to answer, as I think he wrote this script?
Anyhow I was able to get the script to load in CS4 and then I had to tweek the script to recognize my custom metadata schema, which I was able to do. Now however there is an issue with it recognizing the actual metadata in the image files. I suspect it is a mynamespace issue, that is, I do not have the right path for it to locate the actual metadata for export.
here is where I suspect the problem lay, where this "http://NPSAlaskaImageStandard" is incorrect.
    new MdNs.MetadataNamespace( "NPS Alaska Image Standard", "http://NPSAlaskaImageStandard", "NPSAlaskaImageStandard" );
I am a total novice with this stuff so this may not be it at all, however this is my best guess, anyone know the answer?

  • How do I export phone contacts into CSV file?

I can't seem to export the contacts in my iPhone into a CSV file so I can import them into Yahoo Mail or Gmail to edit.

Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. This is so common with Windows users - here anyway - not having contacts available on their computer. How does one get by without having contact info available on their computer, or having email addresses only for contacts on their computer, telephone numbers only for contacts on their cell phone, and mailing addresses who knows where? Not a good idea to depend on an iPhone or any cell phone only for contact info - along with having to manually enter all contact info on a cell phone, which can be lost or stolen.
With Windoze, you can sync contacts with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with syncing calendar events, or with the address book used by Outlook Express or by Windows Mail (depending on the Windoze version) called Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only. You may not have Outlook 2003 or 2007, but you have Windows Contacts available.
If Windows Contacts is empty - no contact info, before the first sync enter one contact in Windows Contacts. Make the contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select. Syncing contacts with Windows Contacts is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
After your contacts are available in Windows Contacts, you can export the contacts from there in a CSV file for import by Yahoo or Gmail.
