Stamp tool preview opacity

Is there a way to adjust the opacity of the HUD-preview in the stamp tool?

Or do you mean when adjust the size of the brush, a way to adjust the opacity?
What version of photoshop are you using?
In photoshop cs6/cc under photoshop preferences(Edit)>General and uncheck Vary Brush Hardness based on HUD vertical movement
Then the vertical movement adjusts the opacity

  • Clone stamp tool won't apply

    Hello all,
I just moved to CC and I'm having trouble applying the clone stamp tool.
So, I create a duplicate unlocked layer and select my area to clone from using ALT.
When I hover over the area to place the clone it previews what it'll look like, but when I click the mouse it won't apply.
Any ideas folks? I'm on a MacPro late 2013 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5.
    Many thanks,
    Jonny Walton

Selection active, Opacity too low, Flow too low, Blend Mode, …?
Have you reset the Tool yet?

  • Photoshop Elements 8. "Could not use Clone Stamp Tool because of a program error."  Please help.

Photoshop Elements 8.  "Could not use Clone Stamp Tool because of a program error."  Please help.

    Try this:
    Open your picture file
    Access the clone stamp tool
Hold down the ALT key on the keyboard and left click on the area from which you wish to clone, then release the ALT key, and click to place the pixels at the destination
    TIPS:
It is a good idea to open a blank layer at the top in the layers palette, and do the cloning on this layer. Be sure that "sample all layers" at the top is checked. You can change the layer opacity if necessary
Use the bracket keys next to the letter p on the keyboard to increase & decrease the size of the cursor
Let us know  how you make out with the error message now.

  • A problem using clone stamp tool

    Hi guys,
I use After Effects CC last version on a pc under windows 7 ultimate..
This problem must be simple to solve but I just don't see how.
I have an aerial view of the Vesuvio. The volcano makes a 10 to 15° circular motion due to the helicopter moving.
I need to eliminate the actual houses and other trails on the border of the crater to have my volcano as it was 2000 years ago when it erupted and destroyed Pompeii.
I succeeded to do that with the clone stamp tool without a problem and it takes of course into account all the different shades of earth on the cliffs of the volcano.
But when I preview the shot, while the volcano moves, I can see the stamped touches of paint moving as if floating above the volcano. The older surface is not visible as I wanted but the new one does't follow the movement. I'm sure I forgot to do something but what? Should I do the clone stamp in conjunction with motion tracker, if so how? I tried once but got the same problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Claude

OK, I see a bunch of painting on the nearest slope of the volcano that does not track with the shot. Your biggest problem is workflow using the clone stamp. You are just not using it properly. If it were me, the first think I would do is to use the After Effects tracker to stabilize this part of the volcano so that it didn't move in the frame.
Now you only have perspective issues to deal with.
Next I would duplicate the stabilized layer, pre-compose the duplicate moving all attributes to the new composition, name the preComp - clone or paint pre-comp, then open the pre-comp in the layer panel and use the clone stamp to repair the parts of the image you want to repair. You can then add other trackers for the parts of the image you want to clone or use a time offset to make your painted layer match the mountain.
I probably would do something completely different. I'd export the middle frame of this move as a Photoshop file, then go in and paint  the mountain the way I wanted it to look. I'd mask the background in photoshop so I only see the sides and face of the volcano. Then I'd bring my painted mountain back into AE and animate distortion, scale and rotation so the painted layer matches the original perspective on the shot as close as possible. When that is done I'd go back to my main comp, add a null, tie the null's position to the anchor point of the stabilized footage, then parent the original copy of the footage and the painted copy to the null to put the camera movement back in the scene.
Here's a tutorial on how to apply tracking data to a clone stamp in AE:
Removing an Object with Clone Stamp - After Effects Tutorial
I am pretty convinced that you added the smoke... Use the same procedure to get the smoke to look right. It's also floating in an unnatural manner. You could also replace the far background with a matte painting of the city using the same mask, duplicate, paint in Photoshop, then distort and remove the stabilization.

  • Clone Stamp Tool does not work

This is a re-post of an old problem. Using PS CS4 Extended v. 11.0.2 in Win XP SP3.
The clone stamp tool does not alter my image. After selecting source region, cursor hovers over the target region and the preview looks like what one would expect. After clicking, however, the desired change does not occur.
Uninstalled PS and reinstalled. Clone stamp worked for a while, then quit working again.
Image seems to be OK, in that I can open it on my Laptop with CS3 on Win Vista, do my cloning, save and all works fine.
Any ideas appreciated. I may uninstall and reinstall again, but if I do, would like some ideas of what I should monitor as I go through my work process.

The second method worked. Many thanks.
To avoid this happening again, would appreciate any idea on what to look for in my Preferences.
    Glad it fixed it.
When the preferences get corrupted it is not due to a wrong setting. One of the files has been damagrd. This is a known problem with computers not just Photoshop.
It can be caused by incorrect shut-downs, hard drive faults, or a dozen other reasons. Deleting the preferences just lets Photoshop generate a fresh set at factory default.
Make sure you check through to get your personal settings back and then save a copy.

  • Clone stamp tool error

I am attempting to use the brush in Photo shop element 8....I am running windows vista.
I get error message "could not use the clone stamp tool because the area to clone has not been defined (Alt-click to define source point)"
I have never had to Alt-click to use the brush, however with that said when I now attempt to alt-click it still will not work, I have reset the brush tools to default, and I have also done someone ' method of double clicking.  I have no other programs running and I am on the appropriate layer.  I am besides myself and need access to it ASAP for a project that I am working on.
Any suggestion... I saw that someone else was running another OS and had talked about the computer program is having interference with the alt key and to manually switch the computer so the super key (window key next to it) acts as the ALT key, however I haven't located how to do that yet on my program.

I want to add that I switched to a darker background and now, after I define the source I can see the brush that I am using but is very faint and only matches the background color. even though I have selected black as the color of the brush...I can see my stamp if I switch it to the patterend stamp tool but I can not get it too be shown in black.  I have added a new layer on top of it and have the opacity set to 100 percent...Im at a loss?
I have never had such problems before....

  • Clone stamp tool issue on CS5

Working on pshop CS5 for the last days (transitioning from cs2) i noticed that the stamp tool in c5 is updated by having a "preview" capability inside its brush. Also noticed that this feature is making the stamp tool a little slower, or maybe more memory absorbent and looks to be slower and less smooth when working. Is there a way to shut the preview down and make it act like in cs2 where there is no preview in the stamp tool brush?

Thank you very much Chris for the right and fast reply

  • Clone Stamp Tool not cloning transparency correctly

My clone stamp tool is not cloning transparency correctly.
I have looked at all opacity, flow, and blending setings.
Basically, what I remember from before this problem started,  is that cloning a transparent edge, or an area with some degree of transparency, and the transparency information would transfer pixel for pixel.
Now it appears that the color cloning is working correctly but the transparency information is cloning as additive.
For example, if I have a solid color square with no transparency, surrounded by tranparent area and I clone from the square into the tranparent area, it clones corectly. If I try to clone FROM the tranparent area, into the square, nothing happens. The zero opacity (transparent) information is added to the 100% opacity square and the result is no change. I would expect to create a brush shaped line of 100% transparency since my cloning stamp is set to 100% opacity.
If there is an area that is50% transparent. (Like if it had been erased at 50% opacity), then when I clone one part of the 50% transparent area onto another, instead of staying the same the tranparency goes to 100%.
I am trying to use the cloning stamp tool to modify a .png logo that contains many areas of varying transparency, and so this problem is making the editing slow going if not impossible.
I do not know how to fix this or if I inadvertantly checked/engaged some sort of setting.
    Any help is appreciated.

You may be correct. I tried it on an older version of Photoshop with the same effect.
I am not sure why I thought transparency would clone rather than add the transparency.
I think it would be more effective if you could clone the transparency though, or at least choose. For example, what if I I want to clone an area with less than 100% opacity on to another area with 100% opacity, or if I want to clone an uneven edge that is opaque on one side and transparent on the other, and I want to move it into the opaque area a little further.
It seems I have done this many times, but I may just be tired and not remembering correctly.
At any rate, thanks for the quick reply.

  • Clone Stamp Tool in CS6 Will Not Work on Tiff Files

All of a sudden the Clone Stamp Tool does not work when working on a tif file. Yes I get the Circle with + sign when I press the ALT Key but tool will not clone.

    Hi Trevor!
I found out that it affects all file extensions.  Files were created after adjustments in Bridge. Layer is not locked. Opacity is at 46. Now as I reviewed your answer, I was looking at a FAQ about the same thing. Truthfully I did not know that you could reset tools.
I found out how to reset the CSTool and voila!!! Now works fine.
    Thanks for the advice...

  • Clone stamp tool suddenly looks bitmapped around the edges

I'm using the clone stamp tool, as well as the spot healing brush, and it has suddenly begun to look "bitmapped" around the edges. I am using the clone stamp at the halfway mark between hard and soft, but instead of a smooth blend at the edges of the circle, it looks bitmapped. The tool still works fine, it's just very distracting. I've tried restarting my computer, I've double-checked my tool preferences, but it's still bitmapped looking. ?????

Update your graphics driver and/or adjust the settings or turn off OpenGL in the preferences. Sounds like you see issues with transparency belnding for the clone stamp overlay preview. For anything beyond that blindfold advise we would need some real system info and otehr details like actually knowing what version of PS you use. you have not provided any of that.

  • Clone stamp tool question

When I am using my clone stamp tool, the area I want to change is still there... What am I doing wrong?

    Could be lots of reasons.
Do you have an active selection and are trying to clone outside it?
Do you have 'Current layer only' checked in the options bar, and no source pixels to clone from?
Do you have a blend mode other than Normal set for the clone tool in the Options bar?
Is the clone tool Opacity or Flow set very low in the Options bar?

  • Photoshop CS4 Clone Stamp Tool behavior

I installed CS4 on a Dual Pentium Xeon 2.4ghz Compaq W8000 system with 3GB of RD 800mhz RAM and Windows XP Pro w/SP3 and all updates. The video card is a ATI Radion AGP-3855 w/512 GDDR3 RAM with latest drivers.
When using the clone stamp tool, after making a sourse selection there is a "trail" that follows the cursor to the destination (similar to using a mouse trail so you can tell where the cursor is on a notebook computer)
When the cursor slows down at the stamp destination the "trail" catches up and covers the destination with the sourse "patch" not allowing precise targeting. It is so cumbersome to use as to make the clone stamp tool almost unusable. The density of the "patch" is not affected by opacity settings.
Is this a new behaviour for this tool in CS4? And if so can it be turned off? Do I have a problem unique to my system?
    Murray

    Hi Anthony,
Good point and thanks for suggesting the clone source features. I can see that it has tremendous potential and will revisit it to see if it will benifit my work. My immediate problem was that overlay was on as a default and it was not obvious to me where to address it.
I have not used this forum before as I have a couple of gurus I lean on, but was really impressed by the immediate help I recieved here.
I am a wildlife-mammal-stock shooter and I have been using Quick Mask, with a feathered brush to make small to medium selections on a, sometimes, flipped version of the image I am working on, or from another one. Moving the selection to a separate transparent (background) layer and then bringing it into my image as a separate layer and aligning it by setting the opacity at 50% and then using rotation, opacity and layer masking to finish the work.I then use the clone stamp at a low (20-50%) opacity to do additional "painting" and to blend the QM object. This approach is cumbersome, but highly effective, however I may be able to use "your" clone source options for simpler or different tasks.
    Thanks,
    Murray

  • How to disable anoying and slow stamp brush preview? CS5

    Hello,
i have this problem in Photoshop CS5
as always, with nev version we got new features which nobody needs and slow down the performance... and/or workflow
for example: anoying preview under the stamp brush, which is unbelievably slow and cannot be turned off
next thing is brush shape preview, i often use large brushes and i need to see the whole shape, not just one quarter of the brush, please change that
    thanx

If not for the new features, why upgrade Photoshop?
You have video driver problems.  You are also likely wrong that OpenGL Drawing is turned off on your system, assuming by "stamp brush preview" you mean  the overlay preview inside the brush for the Clone Stamp tool, because with OpenGL disabled you wouldn't be seeing that overlay.  Keep in mind that when you make OpenGL changes in the Edit - Preferences - Performance menu you should close Photoshop and reopen it.
Why do things work differently in CS5?  The simple answer is that Photoshop demands more of the video drivers than its predecessors.  And your computer / software setup isn't up to the task.
Chances are it can work better...  Download the latest driver for your nVidia video card.  http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
By the way, the Clone Stamp overlay (assuming that's what you're describing as the "stamp brush preview") is not "unbelievably slow" on most peoples' systems - it's perfectly interactive and a real help.  To turn off the Clone Stamp overlay, choose Window - Clone Source, then uncheck the [ ] Show Overlay setting.

  • Stamp Tool not cloning same desnsity - Why?

I'm using Photoshop CS5 and often, but not always, the clone tool will either make the cloned area either lighter or darker than the area it's copying. This is most noticeable, but not limited to areas of solid of solid color.
    My settings are -
    Mode: Normal
    Opacity 100%
    Flow 100%
    Aligned
    No layers used
Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I forgot to mention I'm using a circa 2008 Mac Pro.

because the eye can play tricks on you.
    True that.
Any thoughts as to why the cloned area is not exactly like the sampled area
That statement seems to be false, I located one area that had been cloned from apparently and it is the same brightness and color as the Clone Stamp Tool’s application.
veryfrustratingattheleast, please Clone Stamp on a separate Layer and then move that to the location of the source – is it identical?

  • Lift and Stamp tool not working so well? White images!?

    Here's a strange issue.
I worked on an image yesterday. Today, I want to copy the adjustments to another image in the same project. When I use the Lift and Stamp tool to copy the adjustments, the new image turns completely white. Even though I checked the adjustments and they look the same as the original one, the new image is all white.
Now the strange thing is when I adjusted another image today then used the Lift and Stamp tool, the adjustments copied over fine.
The only thing I can see which is different from the image I adjusted yesterday is that I had Aperture send that image to CS4 and I edited a TIFF which I stacked back with the original file.
I'll try to make a screencast available so you can see what's going on.
Looks like Apple's going to need to update Aperture 3 before it really comes out.
    Antonio

Thanks for your effort. I am stunned. Would be edifying to know what is happening! I thought it might be okay as I sometimes turn my image black after applying some change, but the black is only a temporary display problem as the image is correct the next time I go to use it; perhaps in my situation Aperture was busy generating new previews for presentation of the changes. Your white is certainly a different issue. Glad it's only an isolated incident and not happening for you on the other images.
