Standby on other OS version

Hello, All
Currently, Oracle 9.2.0 on HP-UX 11.11 is installed on the PA-RISC-based server. My company plans to purchase another server - Itanium based, with corresponding HP-UX 11.22 - and use it as a standby Oracle DB for existing one. Although this combination seems to work well, but no one will be glad if something goes wrong when new server will have been purchased already - because, strictly speaking, two mentioned versions of HP-UX are different, although highly compatible. Does anyone know if this solution will work for sure ?
Thank you,
Oleg.

Well, in the Data Guard Operational Prerequisites section of the Oracle Data Guard Administrator's Guide, http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96653/considerations.htm#52221 one of the requirements is: "The operating system running on the primary and standby locations must be the same, but the operating system release does not need to be the same"
So long as both machines are running the same Oracle software version, have the same type of processor, and are both 32-bit or 64-bit, it appears that you can safely run different patchsets on the two machines.

  • N95 Active Standby basic, or S60 version?...

    Hi guys
I was just wondering which N95 users have the more up to date Active Standby mode (the S60 version with the icons on the left, and submenus that popout) and who has the older version?
My brother and I both have N95s, both from Phones4U and both on Orange contract - yet his has the new menu, and mine has the old one. He also has the option to switch between the 2 in his settings.
Anyone know if there is a way to get that functionality on my phone?
    Many thanks
    C.

    What do you mean???
The Orange Standby screen is only on Orange branded handsets. No way to get it on an unbranded generic phone.
No dude, I just meant it is only to O2.
Not for the generic ones, no need for it, too.
    Just to get clarified.

  • People picker is not working for ie11 but working fine for other lower version

i am using sharepoint 2010 and windows authentication
recently i have updated my ie to ie11 and problem goes here.
when i try to select from people picker, there are an unexpected error happened
however when i use other ie version, people picker work fine, what goes wrong?
i have already added my system as trusted site
if there any others thing i miss out?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that People picker is not working for ie11 but working fine for other lower version.
IE 11 is known to have compatibility issues on SharePoint 2010, please make sure to:
first of all, try installing latest update for IE 11 (several compatibility issues were fixed since the first release)
add the site to compatibility view (in IE> Tools> Compatibility view settings> type site name> add)
add the site to trusted sites and set the zone security level to low (in IE> Internet Options> Security> trusted sites> sites>add your site there> ok> custom level> select low> reset> ok)
You can use developer tools (f12) and set browser mode to the version that is most compatible with your environment.

  • Preference for git over other distributed version control?

Out of curiosity, and not to start a flamewar or anything...but, why does it seem like most Archers have an preference for git over other distributed version control software choices?  I tend to like Mercurial, as it was an easy transition from using SVN for so long, but reading the mailing lists, it looks like most of the Arch project development is moving toward git.  Is there something I don't know?

elasticdog wrote:Would you say you like it more than Mercurial, or just now that you've been forced in to using it, it's not bad after the learning curve?  Which one do you use for personal projects?
I do prefer git, after using mercurial for a quite a while.
    - Git is fast (very fast).
    - The format patch and other random porcelain are great.
    - The syntax and UI is a bit unruly, but once you get the hang of it, it's not a big deal.
    - Once very awesome thing for me is the ability to do localized in-repo branching, just checkout a local branch, and your tree changes to that branch. Do stuff, commit, whatever. Then checkout your other branch, and bam. You can diff and merge between local branches, create new ones, throw ones away, etc.. all within the same tree (no need for external clones).
    - The quick and easy rebase functionality is great too.
I guess I would say git is powerful, but certainly arcane.
I think mercurial got named branches a little while ago, so I haven't used them. I *think* they are similar to git branches, but I don't know for sure. The little I have read about them make them seem a bit funky.
I prefer git, but mercurial is a fine choice too.
I would say that pretty much everything out there besides these two sucks.

  • Primary and Standby Database on different versions

    Dear Friends,
We have a situation now where we have successfully completed the oracle upgrade of primary database to 10.2.0.4
but could not proceed further with the physical standby database.
Can we have standby database in its current version (9.2.0.8) and its primary database on (10.2.0.4)
and will it apply the logs shipped from primary without any issues ?
    Appreciate your earliest valuable responses.
    Best Regards,

  • Standby database on different version than prod.

Is it possible to have a standby database running on a different version of Oracle than the production database?
In this case I have production DB on the following version:
    7.3.4
    8.1.7.4.0
    9.2.0.4.0
    9.2.0.6.0
Would it be possible to run the a stand by DB in 10g?

From the docs posted previously, which you clearly didn't read
Oracle Data Guard is available only as a feature of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. It is not available with Oracle Database Standard Edition. This means the same release of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition must be installed on the primary database and all standby databases in a Data Guard configuration.
Rhetorical question: Now what would same release mean?

  • Physical Standby: RFS: 'Attach' request version mismatch

I have a 10.1.0.4 database that I want to move to a new machine and also upgrade to 10.2.0.1. I'm trying to follow the instructions for using SQL Apply to perforn a rolling upgrade with minimal downtime. My understanding is that I must first create a physical standby, and then transition the physical standby to a logical standby. Well, my physical standby is failing. I see the following in the standby's alert log:
    RFS: 'Attach' request version mismatch
Both databases have their COMPATIBLE parameter set to 10.1.0.2.
As an aside, if I must first create a working physical standby, then why do I need to transition that standby to a logical standby? I mean, can't I just get the physical standby working, perform a switchover, and be done with it?

I was confused. I thought I could just create a 10.2.0.1 standby for a 10.1.0.4 primary. The process, though, is to first get a working 10.1.0.4 (logical) standby for the 10.1.0.4 primary. At that point dbua can be used to upgrade the standby, and I can go from there.
I'm sure everything will work, now that I understand the steps required.

  • User Profiles are the wrong style after importing/migrating site collections from other SharePoint versions

I manage a couple of different version of SharePoint, which we are in the process of migrating to SharePoint 2013. I have a problem which I am not sure how to resolve. We are using MetaLogix to migrate site and site collection data from an older SharePoint
2007/WSS3.0 server environment into our new SharePoint 2013 environment and we are having a problem with user profiles that get created.
I have SharePoint 2013 set up for "SharePoint Profile Synchronization" and some of our user's profiles are being created in an older format that shows the user's claims account information, rather than the more fancy profile type that allows us
to include pictures and click on "follow this person" links.
If we manually delete the profile, it will be recreated properly however, as we are migrating many sites and collections over, it is near impossible to do this and keep track of each user so that their profiles can be deleted and recreated.
Is there some way to change this behavior so that SharePoint will only create the newer style of user profile?

These 'profiles' are you looking at them in the User Profile Service Application itself or are you looking at site collections? There is a huge difference between the two but people often miss it.
In most cases you'll have some partial information on the Site Collections but when you click through to their actual profile (not just their User Information List entry) you'll see the prettier version. That information is normally internally synchronised
by a timer job but that may not have run yet and/or the fact that your users haven't actually used the site may be causing it not to update them (it's an efficiency matter).
Finally: Drop your sales guy at Metalogix an email, they will bounce it to one of their techies and they'll have seen it a million times.

  • I need a prior version of firefox...version 1.5 because my payroll department software is not compatible with firefox 6.0... how do I get the other - older - version ??

my payroll department uses eSAP payroll program. It is NOT compatible with your new version...6.0. I need your older version 1.5 so i can access my payroll records. I am currently being forced to use Internet Explorer and I absolutely HATE that software.
please help !!! How do I get the older version? Version 1.5 - thank you.

I would hope the problem is that Firefox 5 is not compatible with some of McAfee's additional add-ons. It will be rather worrying if it has a problem with the McAfee security programs themselves. Please state exactly which software and version you are having problems with.
There are known issues with McAfee's Site Advisor [/questions/839953#answer-205178] but it is hoped McAfee will solve that in a few weeks.

You have to educate your customer: EPS is an outdated and lossy file type because it does neither support transparency nor color management and should be avoided to be used with InDesign or Photoshop or Illustrator.
I don't understand, why so many insist in using EPS?

  • Skype for 8520 and other BB version's / Question needed to be answered by Blackberry support for everyone!

This is a question that seriously needs answering for myself and other BB customer's.
Personally the only reason I have a BB is because I can have window's live messenger on it, But WLM is closing in April and updating to skype, Meaning everyone who use's WLM that their contact's will be going there and not to any other network!
Now I've read from what I've researched that BB maybe will be joining with oovoo something like that, Why when that is not where people's MSN/Hotmail contact's will be going ?
BB paying customer's to BB product's want access to there MSN/Hotmail contact's not to be diverted to another service that does not have their MSN/Hotmail contact's.
Also I have seen that skype or something along those line's will be available for the new BB 10, So what about earlier product's such as BB curve 8520 that I personally own myself that has nothing wrong with it?
So us paying BB customer's are going to be excluded because we don't have a brand new version of BB due to there being nothing wrong with the BB's we have? Which so were going to be penalized?
I would like these question's answered please because I am not happy about this and I'm sure a lot of other BB customer's are not too, It's not anyone's fault that WLM is going to be taken away but atleast make sure that BB customer's have a skype app to access their MSN/Hotmail contact's and can conversant with them directly like WLM.
Honestly I love my BB and wouldn't be without it purely because I'm able to log in WLM when I like, Where ever I am and talk to my contact's directly, Not all people have BB's and can not be added to BB messenger which is why WLM is a priority on BB app's for BB customer's, Is something going to be done about this? Because if not then that is just wrong which will result in many valued BB customer's changing to other phone's purely because out of being penalized of not having the newer version of BB 10 or not having skype at all regardless of IM+, We should have a direct Skype app and be able to have direct gain to our MSN/Hotmail contact's like we did on WLM.
So can someone answer this please and give us BB customer's confirmation on what is going to happen, Thank you.
For those of you BB customer's who are reading this who use WLM and is important to you as it is myself, Like this thread please so it get's noticed so that action will be taken. Thank you.

The answer is actually simple...example...6.0.0.415 for a 9860 is very different from 6.0.0.415 for a 9670. Hence, the app developers must port their apps to every combination of (usually) major OS level (e.g., 6.0, 7.0, 7.1) and specific device model number. That's a lot of combinations to which they must port their app...and many choose to not do them all. But the choice is the app developers.

  • Error message; cannot install update due to other Firefox versions installed. How do I checkfor other versions ?

Cannot install Firefox 7.0 update. Getting message that update cannot be completed. Check for other versions already installed. How do I look for other versions ?

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Oracle forms 4.5 corrupting others forms versions

    Hi Friends,
I am using Oracle 6i and Oracle 10g forms and reports.
After installing Oracle Forms 4,5 when i try to open Oracle 6i or 10g forms i am getting the error
    Message file \ORANT\DBS\FMCUS.MSB not found.
but the file is avaialble in the mentioned location.
    Please suggest the Fix.
    Regards,
    Arun

    Arun,
The only way to install Developer 2000 (Forms 4.5) and any other version of Developer on your computer is to install Dev2K first. Dev2K does not recognize the Oracle Homes technology so it will install, by default, into the Oracle DEFAULT HOME. In you case, unfortunately, this means you will have to uninstall and remove all traces of all installed Oracle products (this includes the Windows Registry) and then reinstall. As a rule of thumb, you should always try to install Oracle products from "Oldest" to "Newest". Developer Suite 5 and above supports Oracle Homes technology, so once you have installed Dev2K, install Developer 6i. Make sure you change the Dev 6i HOME during setup or will have the same problem you have now.
    Hope this helps.
    Craig...

  • Dataguard on other OS version

    Dear DBAs,
Is there any issues that might occure if my primary database 10.2.0.4 is installed on a Windows2003-64bit(Enterprise Edition) machine and the physical standby database in on a Windows 2003-32bit (standard edition)?
    Thank you in advance

Never tried, but according to Note 413484.1 Data Guard Support for Heterogeneous Primary and Standby Systems in Same Data Guard Configuration, it's possible (and supported) to mix binaries, but you need to follow an special procedure when you switchover/failover, documented in Note 414043.1 Role Transitions for Data Guard Configurations Using Mixed Oracle Binaries.
