Start up and Installation Issues Macbook can't run Mac os X!

I have a Macbook 1.83ghz with 2gb of ram. I upgrade the harddrive as soon as i got it used to 250gb (it was around june). In september i decided to upgrade to leopard. The installation was suscessful. Now here's the problem, at the end of November, the computer starts acting slow, still having 60gb free on each partition ( i bootcamp windows vista and divided the hd in 1/2). I decided to reinstall leopard. Installation success then two weeks before Christmas the computer gave me a repair disk and stopped booting. I repaired disk and volume was ok. I format the partition of mac os x and installation success, i go to welcome screen do the process and after clicking done then the screens stays blue, switches to gray and blue again. I left it on all night and nothing.
I tried the installation again, reformatting and the same thing, each time the welcome screen process went slower and slower. I deleted the wholes hard drive, including windows and still the same. However when i put the vista dvd it installs ok, and runs vista ok. I tried ubuntu and works ok but when I tried to install leopard now the installation fails. I don't know why it doesn't want to install mac but installs vista and ubuntu.
Can anyone help me here? Do i need to send it for repair?

Your friend if he has a disc which says any other Mac model name, or if it was made for the same Mac model on the label, but has a different operating system than shipped with your Mac, it won't work on your Mac.
If he has the full retail with the image I show above, it still is NOT legal for you to use his disc, unless you live in the same physical abode with him, and he is your family, and he has installed it on 4 or less machines, and it is the family license. Otherwise, you must purchase your own copy to stay within the law.
If you purchase your own full retail as I describe above, and you still have trouble erase and installing the operating system after backing up your data*:
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
It may mean your machine has a hardware problem.
Second handed discs are of unknown reliability, and should NEVER be used.

hi, I have asus laptop K42J . can i run mac OS in it ?

However, there are no restrictions as to what version of Windows you can install on a Mac, except for the virtualization software's capabilities.  See this tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2741
If you want the best of both worlds in one machine, that's something you can accomplish easily on any Mac that is from 2006 to the present with an Intel CPU.

  • Dictation, start up and other issues since Yosemite

How can they put out these updates had have them so messed up? My computer worked fine with Maverick but now...
    1. My computer has a "loading bar" every time I log in and it takes about 60 seconds for that thing to finish. I'm not sure if I had this in the past but that it loaded so fast I never saw it or if this a new feature. Why is my computer loading so slowly.
    2. An this is the disaster. I am a student and speaker and I loved the dictation feature in office. (I don't think this is an office issue but I might be wrong.) The dictation worked great. I could bang out a speech or paper in no time with some proofing. However since the update, every time I stop speaking, even when I do not insert a period, it capitalized the next word. The proofing I need to do not is ridiculous and I can't find any way to change the dictation settings.
    3. I thought my router was on the fritz, but now it looks like it's the update. My browser also is taking forever to load.
    ARRRRRRRGGGGGGG!
NO. 2 is my major concern. Can anybody tell me how to fix my dictation issues? Can I turn "off" this new capitalization setting?

Could be - because of the disk image, you actually have two mountable disks with OS X systems on them. Having two Mac OSs is not a good idea, and since one of them is not a valid Mac OS for the Intel-based MBP, this is a problem. Your occasional flash of the wrong disk suggests that this is your problem.
You might try opening the disk image from the G4 and deleting the System folder from it - you don't need it, and that is a likely source of the problems...
    Ps. 7+ minutes - wow!

I am having problems downloading and installing Adobe Reader 9. When I ask it to download I get an error message saying "URL not allowed! (15219.305.68)". Sometimes it will continue to download after clicking OK and other times it will not download at all.
Once I get it to download and install I then can't use it.
A few seconds after opening Adobe Reader 9 I get the following error message:

    Frequently Asked Questions
    Q. What does C4 do?
    A. C4 does different things for different audiences. The Compatibility Center contains the following components:
    # A database of Windows applications, including information and statistics about how they run under CrossOver.
    # An online discussion forum and community surrounding each of those applications, where people can discuss the application and any known issues.
    # A front-end for the CodeWeavers regression testing suite (CXTest), allowing us to automatically collate information on the state of CrossOver's functionality vis-a-vis a very large number of Windows applications.
    # A locus for interested parties (advocates, ISVs, etc.) to get applications running under CrossOver
    Q. How does C4 differ from the Application Database maintained on the WineHQ site?
    A. C4 is different in a number of different respects:
    # It is actively maintained.
    # It is more comprehensive.
    # It allows financial incentives to be aligned behind which applications will be supported under CrossOver, thereby giving us an active interest in bringing new applications into support
    # It allows for the dissemination of a uniform toolset that can be used by anyone to test their applications against CrossOver.
    Q. What do the different color medals (gold, silver, bronze) mean?
    A. They indicate different levels of functionality under CrossOver. Go here for more information.
    Q. Why isn't my favorite Windows application in the database?
    A. Probably because no one has submitted it to the database yet. If you're interested in submitting an application, click here to be taken to the correct spot to do that.
    Q. If I don't see a Windows application in the database, does that mean that it won't run under CrossOver?
    A. Not necessarily. Many applications work perfectly under CrossOver without any modification whatsoever. However, we may simply not be aware of them. So, just because an application isn't in our database doesn't mean that your application won't run. You might consider downloading the trial version of CrossOver to see if your application works. And if it does, please consider submitting it so that it makes it into the database.
    Q. If I don't see my application here, what's the easiest way to find out if it will run under CrossOver or not?
    A. Download the trial version and find out. That is by far the fastest, easiest way to answer this question. Regardless of whether the answer is "yes" or "no", we'd love it if you would submit the application to the database.
    Q. I've tried the evaluation version of CrossOver with my application, and it doesn't appear to run under CrossOver. Is there anything I can do to change that?
    A. Absolutely. Depending on your situation, there are a number of things you can do. These include:
    # Becoming an advocate for the application in question. Volunteering your time can help us accumulate better data on the application in question. And as CrossOver Wine continues to improve, odds are the application you need will improve under CrossOver as well.
    # Pledging some level of monetary support to bring the application in question under support. If we reach an economically meaningful amount of money on the table, we'll bring the application up under CrossOver. You'd be amazed how quickly a group of individuals can accumulate the necessary funds. Of course, if you have enough money by yourself, so much the better.
    # Contact the software developer, and suggest that they work with us to make their application function under CrossOver.
    Q. When you say "economically meaningful" (per the last question), just how much money are we talking about?
    A. Answer: it really all depends. Supporting a big, important application that we think we can potentially drive more sales of CrossOver can be a factor to bring the cost down. This is particularly true if we know beforehand that {Customer X} will buy {Z Thousand} seats of CrossOver if the application in question is supported. On the other hand, if the application is known to be big, gnarly, and complex, that brings the cost up. As a result, we review our supported application roadmap on a case-by-case basis.
    Q. Generally speaking, how much does it cost to get a Windows application to run well under CrossOver?
    A. That's a lot like asking, "How much does a house cost?" Again, it really all depends. How complex is the application? And what qualifies as "runs well" for your production environment? The answers to both of these questions can have a dramatic impact on the likely cost of an engagement. For more information on how we approach CrossOver implementation projects, go here.
    Q. Do you work with Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to bring their applications into support?
    A. Absolutely! We have a set of services designed to help ISVs get their products running on either Mac OS X or Linux under CrossOver.
    Q. I'm positive that if you supported {Application X}, CodeWeavers would sell {Z million} extra units of CrossOver to the {Financial Services Sector} in {East Irakistan}. Is there any way you guys would do the work on spec, based on the Enormous Opportunity™ this represents?
    A. Sadly, no. We've learned through experience that there are no "Killer Applications" out there whose support will help us sell a buhzillion extra units of CrossOver. We really wish there were, but so far it's never happened. That's not to say we won't give discounts on development work if we have a large sales opportunity sitting in front of us. But in general, we are a "coin-operated" company: if you need an application to work, you'll need to cover our development costs and profit margin.
    Q. Are there any Windows applications that you can't get working under CrossOver?
    A. Our experience suggests that the answer to this is most likely "probably not". For all practical purposes, we think we can make anything run under CrossOver. After all, if we can make MS Office run, odds are pretty good that we can get your application running, too. The only question is how much work is entailed.
    Q. What are Advocates, and what do they do?
    A. Advocates are the dedicated, talented, and extremely sexy people who help us maintain the Compatibility Center. Advocates dispense their wisdom concerning their favorite Windows applications to other users, as well as helping us test applications. If you think you might be interested in being an advocate, here's some more information on what they do, and the perks they get as a result.

  • Dropped/recreated SQL jobs and now SQL Agent can't run b/c old job_id is still being referenced by the Agent.

I've seen a common issue in several of our production environments where after we upgrade our software the SQL Agent can't run some jobs that were recreated as part of the process because they're referencing the old job_id (in msdb.dbo.sysjobs) that no longer
exists.  I can fix it easily enough by restarting the agent as this will flush whatever cache is being used by the Agent but I'd like a less invasive way to do this, if possible.
Is there any way to flush the cache used by the SQL Agent to store job_ids without having to restart it?  Thanks.

You may try this , and this solves this issue.. I hope if you do this then you no need to restart the agent...
    DECLARE @jobId binary(16)
    SELECT @jobId = job_id FROM msdb.dbo.sysjobs WHERE (name = N'Name of Your Job')
    IF (@jobId IS NOT NULL)
    BEGIN
    EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_delete_job @jobId
    END
    DECLARE @ReturnCode int
    EXEC @ReturnCode = msdb.dbo.sp_add_job @job_name=N'Name of Your Job'

  • New 2009 Macbook - Can it run Snow Leopard 64 bit?

Just bought the new unibody white Macbook. I intend to run VMWare Fusion 3 and found some online suggestions to run it in Snow Leopard 64 bit. Will this new macbook support to boot Snow Leopard 64 bit as default?
    Thanks.

    Pancenter,
I tried my macbook, I cannot boot to 64-bit. I tried boot with "4" and
6" pressed and even modified the com.apple.Boot.plist file as said in http://macperformanceguide.com/SnowLeopard-64bit.html
neither works. So the result on Late 2009 MacBook is same same as Compactc9 in his early 2009 model.
May be Apple may have lock the OS to 32-bit on Macbook ?
    Reinstalling will not help.
It looks like Apple limits the Macbooks to 32-bit even though some are apparently capable of loading the 64-bit kernel. Probably another way to differentiate between the Macbook & Macbook Pro which as I understand it, will boot into the 64-bit kernel.
I think the best you can hope for is an EFI firmware update.

  • Can I run Mac Os 10.4 on my iMac G4 Dome? Where can I get install disks?

I have an iMac G4 that currently has Mac OS10.3.9 installed.  I am unable to connect to the internet using my Airport Extreme even though there is an Airport card installed..  Can I install Mac OS 10.4 and if so where can I get installation CD's/DVD's for PPC G4?

Check in the Airport forums here:
    AirPort
There may be a way to change security settings on the AEBS to accomodate the older OS.
As for OS versions, any iMac G4 can run OS 10.4.11, and those with a 1ghz or faster processor can run OS 10.5.8. However, demand has pushed prices of legitimate retail install packages for older Mac OS versions sky-high---often more than the computer is worth used---and has also attracted the attention of scam artists. There are NO downloadable versions of the Mac OS since 7.5. Any offered are scams and piracy.
You cannot use the gray system install/restore disks that came with another Mac model. A retail disk is black witha  big X and will NOT say "Up to Date" on it.
Another caution: Some older G4 iMacs shipped with CD drives, not DVDs, and most Tiger retail disks out there are DVDs. Make sure your computer can use a DVD system disk before your order.

  • Can i run Mac OS X on Mac Mini under a "bare metal" Hypervisor?

Unfortunately, I can't leave Windows because of heavy amount of legacy software which cannot be easily transfered to Mac OS X (for example, databases running on MSSQL).
On the other side I like Mac Mini hardware for its size, noise level and power consumption and want to try Mac OS X (buying it only to replace Max OS X with Windows would be insane).
So, to avoid buying a separate computer, I want to run both operating systems simultaneously under a "bare metal" Hypervisor (VMWare ESXi, Hyper-V etc.).
Using BootCamp to run either Mac OS X or Windows doesn't fit my needs. Running Windows as a guest OS in Parallels - doesn't fit them too.
Both OS should be able to run at the same time, and Windows should be on 24h a day.
I know that a hypervisor can be installed on Mac Mini. I know also that running Windows on it won't be a problem.
The only question is - will the Mac OS X Lion run under hypervisor?

VMWare ESXi should support Lion and Mountain Lion, both in terms of it having been done and beeing allowed by Apple's license.
Note: Apple's license only allows hosting two virtual OS X machines on a single host.
In addition to ESXi, there is also Parallels Server for Mac Bare Metal Edition. See http://www.parallels.com/uk/products/server/mac/baremetal/technical-resources/ I merely mention it for completeness, I would stick to ESXi since it is 'free'.
You could consider running OS X as the host operating system and Windows as a guest VM using VirtualBox. VirtualBox can be configured to start automatically and invisibly on the Mac host. You could then use Microsoft RDP to connect to the running VM. Its services like SQL Server would of course be running and accessible as normal.
