Starting over-- without classic???
heres the short story-- Ive been runing os9 of one version or another on imacs over the years and currently have 9.2.2 running exactly how I want it. A couple months ago i stumbled on a killer deal on a g4 power mac- still an older machine but it blows my imac away- it runs 10.1. This is my first real expirence with osx and now that Im getting comfortable with it-- Im ready to upgrade to tiger (Im waiting for my media exchanged version) Furthermore, I want to zero out the hard drive- the guy that sold it to me was not a mac guy at all and I have kind of a mess on my hands. My question is.... do I have to install os9 before i can install tiger if I have really no desire to use classic environment-- dont get me wrong, I love os9, but I have a whole seperate machine dedicated to it, i also use the imac as an external firewire drive for the G4 for backing-up-- my point is that my os9 needs are covered.
And if anyone has any tips on a custom installation of Tiger I would really appriciate it- I really want to do this right the first time.
You will need to read the notes with the particular firmware update.
Usually the update requires the Mac to be booted from OS 9 or OS 8. In that situation you would need to install the appropriate OS on your hard drive to install the firmware update.
Once the firmware is installed, there is no need to reinstall it when you erase the OS or replace the hard drive. The firmware is installed on the motherboard.

If you're on Mountain Lion, it's pretty easy. Just drag Server.app out of the Applications folder. This will disable all of the server processes. Then you can remove everything in /Library/Server. That will remove all of the saved state, effectively returning you to a clean install of server.

Stop sound and start over without "pop"
I need to be able to interrupt and restart a short (3-4 second) sound file while it's still playing. Seems simple enough, but with both SoundEngine and AudioServices it causing a "popping" sound as it restarts. Is there any way to avoid this? I tried stopping the sound first with SoundEngine before starting it but it doesn't make any difference. (The waveform for the sound starts at zero, in case you're wondering.) Thanks for any help you can give me on this...it's been driving me crazy.
Yes Craig, my response was assuming you were using AudioQueue - I do not know much about SoundEngine but I see from looking at the code that it is based on AudioQueue.
I disagree with ramping of the volume - it seems to me this is just masking a problem in management of the buffers. Whatever is in your buffer is what will be sent to the output device when you start it. That is why you prime the buffers in the first place. AudioQueue implements a pause. You may want to update SoundEngine to use that rather than do a start / stop. Although if your intention was to restart the track from the beginning you want to use stop then start and will have to make sure the buffers are cleared out and re-primed with data from the beginning of your audio file. I do not know if SoundEngine is set up to properly handle this use case. -

Carefully follow steps 1-9 outlined by wjosten in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13356770#13356770. This will not, however, avoid wiping any non-purchased media from your phone (ripped CDs, etc.) as this is only synced one way: from your computer to your phone. You will have to either rebuild your iTunes library with this content and sync again to restore it to your phone, or purchase 3rd party software to copy it from your phone to iTunes prior to syncing (such as Touch Copy).

If all she seeks to do is to change the display name, and she’s willing to leave the account name unchanged, then she could do the following: log in as the administrative user and open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences. If the padlock in the lower-left corner is locked, unlock it. Select the account that shows your brother-in-law’s name on the left-hand side of the window, and then on the right-hand side, change the text in the “Full name” textbox to her preferred display name. If desired, click on the padlock in the lower-left corner to relock it. -
Getting old site off the 'net without appropriate files. (to start over with same domain name)
As a complete novice, I'm not even sure how to start this question...but, I have tried everything and I think I have "lost" my website in terms of bringing in back into DW and changing/updating it. My backup files on my computer have disappeared and the appropriate files through my cPanel to bring it back to in order make changes aren't there. The website still functions, but it is outdated for my business needs.
So, at this point, my question is this; how can I gain control over the domain and start over from scratch. I don't want what is out there anymore, but without control through the above mentioned devices, is it even possible to build a new website and get the old one off the 'net as it is and still keep the original www.name.com?

You will need to sort out the FTP issues because when you have edited your site, you will need to upload it and so FTP details will be required.
Your first port-of-call to sort this out is to contact your host who can reset the password for you so that you can start all over again. The alternative, is to give your password/login details to Murray (PRIVATELY) so that he can try from his machine. When this is done, you can always change the password for your own security.

Change administrator name without starting over.
Hope someone can tell me how to change the administrator name and or delete the one that's in there that was cemented in the system when I got the computer and replace it with my name, without re-formating the drive and starting over. It's a G4 tower with 10.4.11. I have tried everything I can think of....

BudI found a way to do this but it might be scary for a newbie. Open the accounts in system preferences and create a sub account with the name you want to use as the new administrator. Next check the new user to allow to administer the account and remove the check mark in the original administrator. Now open the library folder on the hard drive and find the preferences folder. Trash the com.apple.preferences.accounts.plist and reboot. The new name you created and authorized will now be the administrator. The original administrator will be deleted.
The kicker is you will not be able to ever change the account settings. The accounts button will disappear in the system preferences. Also you may loose contact with some software as the system partially reverts back to default. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK and don't do it without backing up important files first externally and also be sure you have the install disks for your software if you need to reinstall something. It worked for me but so far I have only done it once. I did loose Safari bookmarks and some other minor things, had to re-do mail preferences but it kept Adobe stuff ect. Lost MS Office. Had to re-install that. The original items are still on the computer somewhere but..... -
my IPhone is asking me to type in my password for my old Apple ID that does not exist anymore. I cant set up ICloud without typing in a password to a Apple ID that does not exist, so do I have to remove everything from my IPhone and start over?

I updated to the latest IOS (5.1.1) today and since then Find my friends hang at "signing in" hangs during signing in. I can't back up & start over, every time I open the app, it's hanging there. Can I clear this without losing everything, including the friends that have already accepted me?

I am not familiar with how you would deauthorize his device from your computer, aside from wiping his iPad and not allowing him further access to your account or your content. If he knows your password you need to change it.
Also, does deleting his apps from my ipad and computer affect the apps from his ID on his ipad?No, his content should be fine on his iPad. -
