Startup Disk issue in new Mac Air. Replaced with another new mac, then again. MS Excel culprit?

Hey guys, I bought a macbook Air 11’ 4GB 128GB (Mid-2011(after selling my 13” macbook pro) and the problems seem to be never ending.
My primary work involves using MS Excel so I installed a licensed version of Office for Mac 2011 and started using excel on my new mac machine. Within few minutes I got a message pop-up on screen “YOUR MAC OS STARTUP DISK HAS NO MORE SPACE AVAILABLE FOR APPLICATION MEMORY”.
I checked the size of storage and there was just 5 GBs worth space left despite the fact that there was not a single photo, music, video on the new mac apart from a few MBs of excel files. I took it to the vendor (APPLE PREMIUM RESELLER) who after re-installing lion returned it to me and the same issue again popped up. Finally, they diagnosed an SSD problem and after a week of waiting, I was given a brand new shiny macbook air MC969 (same model).
I used the new one and again while using excel, the same issue has come up. I’m really fed up of this stupid error bcoz I was using the same OFFICE FOR MAC suite on my macbook pro and never suffered any such problem. I have also twice thrice completed all the steps I was told to do (like repair disk perm. Emptying the cache etc. )
Since India doesn’t have any Apple owned stores but only Premium Resellers whose replacement etc policies are not governed by Apple.
They do not even refund the money but have given an option of diagnosing the machine and replacing the problematic part.
I googled the web and found no such issued with EXCEL. Strangely, other apps in the office suite seem to work well without any issues.
I have attached the screenshots that how while using excel, within a couple of minutes, mac starts to heat up, then storage decreases and finally the error where mac becomes dead slow.
Please help me to determine where the cause lies.

The Excel files size range between 29KB to 60KB.
That's it.
I called up the reseller and he said that the replacement period is now over and mac would only be repaired.

Word 2013 now has lots of updates compared with earlier version of Word, lots of features have been updated. Use Word 2013 to open documents created in earlier versions of Word (Word 97-2003 format), you will probably encounter unexpected problems,
expecially for those heavily formatted files.
We would suggest you to convert your document to the Word 2013 file format, then you will be able to access the new and enhanced features in Word 2013.

Search given string array and replace with another string array using Regex

I want to search the given string array and replace with another string array using regex in java
for example,
String news = "If you wish to search for any of these characters, they must be preceded by the character to be interpreted"
String fromValue[] = {"you", "search", "for", "any"}
String toValue[] = {"me", "dont search", "never", "trip"}
so the string "you" needs to be converted to "me" i.e you --> me. Similarly
you --> me
search --> don't search
for --> never
any --> trip
I want a SINGLE Regular Expression with search and replaces and returns a SINGLE String after replacing all.
I don't like to iterate one by one and applying regex for each from and to value. Instead i want to iterate the array and form a SINGLE Regulare expression and use to replace the contents of the Entire String.
One Single regular expression which matches the pattern and solve the issue.
the output should be as:
If me wish to don't search never trip etc...,
Please help me to resolve this.

As stated, no, it can't be done. But that doesn't mean you have to make a separate pass over the input for each word you want to replace. You can employ a regex that matches any word, then use the lower-level Matcher methods to replace the word or not depending on what was matched. Here's an example: import java.util.*;

When I delete com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist my audio/sound problems are solved. However when the file is replaced with another file, the sound is crappy and the quality is reduced. Can you please help me?

Go find the graphic in question, and open it in its native program. The problem will have to be fixed there.

What payment method are you trying to use? Prepaid debit cards by chance? Apple does not accept prepaid cards.

Brand new to the Mac World and NEED SOME HELP with startup disk issues

Hello everyone. I am a new Mac user and I purchased my mac on ebay. It's an iMac that came with tiger 10.4.11. I wanted to get a fresh start on the computer, since the person who had it before me did not erase all of his stuff. I didn't know what to do so I got a startup disk/install disk off ebay also. When I go to install it says "software cannot be installed on this computer." Before I bought the software, I had called the apple store and they said it should be fine to buy any install software to put on the computer. If I could get any help it would be appreciated. I had read previous threads that I should hold down c when I start up (didn't work) or that I should select archive or erase and install (I never got these options when I went to install).

What iMac is it? I only ask as the Retail Tiger CD/DVDs don't work on IntelMacs, only PPC, (G3, G4, G5 Macs).
Sorry what you were told by the Apple Store, but if it's a Gray CD/DVD then it is Machine specific as Neil stated.

Startup disk issues with a new SSD

Ok so last week I had what I thought was a hard drive failure. In disk utility I could not see the drive and thought it must be corrupt. It's been on my mind to buy an SSD anyway and so bit the bullet and bought a Samsung EVO 840 500GB.
After installing the SSD with the OSX that shipped with my Macbook Pro 13 Inch Nov 2013 everything seemed to be ok. Then I decided after testing to upgrade to Mavericks 10.9.2 and still everything was fine. Now after going to the trouble of installing all my software and tranfering my backups, every time I start up the machine I'm getting the flashing question mark folder. If I go into internet recovery and startup disk > restart everything is fine. But if I go idle it beachballs, if I restart or start I get the flashing folder.
I have done everything I can think of:
1. Internet recovery (Cmd + "R") - tried this several times and disk verifies as ok.
2. System preferences > Startup Disk - tried setting this, made no difference
3. Reset the PRAM (Cmd + Option + "R" + "P") - tried this several times to no avail
4. Diagnostic hardware test (Hold down "D") - ran the test and all hardware is ok
Is there something I am missing here? I've even took the mac apart and double checked the connection on the SATA, seems to be fine?

Also consider taking the SSD out and installing it in an enclosure. Then connect it to the MBP and see if it will boot from it externally. If it does, then there is an internal connection issue.

Lost USB 2.0 card function and new startup disk issue

I have recently developed a problem with lost USB 2.0 expansion card function after my MacPro awakens from sleep. My Apple USB ports are maintained without interruption. No recent software/hardware additions but maybe a recent OS security download or Apple software update.
My USB card function returns after a reboot only to be lost again by any sleep. On reboot I now notice a ? folder prior to my Grey apple logo and normal startup. This finding occurred at the same time as the USB card issue.
I am running 10.6.8 on a dual core intel Xeon. I had previously lost this same USB 2.0 card function with sleep after a 10.5.1 install. I think it was fixed in 10.5.2 upgrade. Tried resetting PRAM but no change. Could this be a motherboard battery failure?
Any suggestions for me?

I am experiencing the same issue. And I also had the same problem back at 10.5.1 as you did. I will turn off the sleep function for now, but this is ridiculous!
My system only has the internal (Apple supplied) OEM USB card/ports. Nothing installed by myself. So this is insane to think that this problem keeps popping up. Ever since I updated to 10.6.8, all of my USB connections go down after sleep. But that's not all, I cannot even connect many of our external drives to the USB ports. When I connect them, they power up, but nothing ever appears on the desktop, nor can they be found with disk utility. They connect just fine with every other Mac in our office.
This is all exactly the same as back with 10.5.1, when 10.5.2 came out the problem was solved.
Apple, please fix this!!!

How to change startup disk for a 2012 Mac mini with dual HDD and clean installed with Windows 8.1?

I have a Mac-mini (late 2012 model), originally with Mac OS X Maverick Server installed (with two HDD). Recently, I had clean installed Windows 8.1 on one of the HDD (worked perfectly, just slow) and swapped the other HDD (with Mac OSX) with a SSD. I then cloned the Windows OS HDD in to the new SSD. Now I am trying to boot this Mac mini from this SSD, however, since this Mac mini do not have BIOS for me to change the boot sequence at the startup, is there any one can help?

My MacBook Pro with Retina Display, and lately its been having issues.
1. My startup disk in system preferences has a question mark (?) on top of it, I don't know why, but this is a new thing.
2. My iMesages is now not working and is 'inactive'.

Reboot holding option until you see the startup manager and then click on the recovery HD. Once in the recovery partition use disk utility to verify and repair (if needed) the disk and do the same thing with disk permissions.

Startup disk full on new Macbook Pro

I bought a Late 2013 13 inch 8 gb Macbook Pro to replace a mid 2010 that had hung up during an update and seized up. I migrated a backup of the 2010 to the 2013 and immediately began getting "startup disk full" notices. I mainly use it for pictures and music and very little document type stuff. I have emptied the trash and repaired permissions and emptied email and downloads etc. I can't figure out what is taking up my space. Storage looks like this, 16.94 free of 250.14. Other storage 166 gb, Apps 37 gb, Photos 14 gb, Movies 5 gb, Audio 10 gb. Any suggestions?

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

Startup disk full warning and mac os doesn't load normally

i get a warning while loging into my user acount, since i have 2. It says that my startup disk is full. When i get into my user account, it doesnt load as normal.
the dock doesnt show up, the menu bar and anyother apps doesnt work. i cant work on anything. i need help to resolve this problem.

Perhaps you should try updating your system if possible because according to your profile you are running one of the first versions of snow leopard (10.6.1) when you should be running 10.6.8. you can check your version by clicking the apple symbol in the finderbar at the top of the screen. you can also run system preferences from there as well as software update. another possibility is that your dock is set up to auto hide when not in use try dragging your cursor to the middle of the bottom of the screen and wait a couple seconds to see if it appears. my only other solution for you is to back up your files and try reinstalling Mac OS with a larger hardrive if possible.

Power mac g5 will not reboot with Startup discs. Has had hard drives replaced with PC ones

I have an old G5 power mac tower. The hard dives were removed and replaced with PCs ones before I was given it. I do not know if they were formatted. I have the original boot up disc and I want to start again with this tower. The tower turns on but does not recognise the keyboard (which I know works) so I am unable to boot from the CD to have a fresh tower.
Any ideas

If the drive(s) is bad, it can prevent boot.
Try removing the drives and then try and boot to the install disc (hold C).
Of course, install isn't possible without a hard drive, but this is a test.

IDVD looses original sound track and replaces with another sound track

I have another issue. I have this one iMovie file that I downloaded from my MiniDV. I have added titles and transitions to it. When I click on the iDVD to go to the iDVD program and burn it, it takes the audio track of the last DVD I had burned and combines that audio track with the iMovie file I just brought over. I have wasted at least 4 DVDs but with no luck. Do you know what is causing it. I have tried to delete all the instance for that movie from the iDVD and restart but it still does the same thing. I also "play" it on iDVD before burning it and it has the correct audio but as soon as I burn it, it goes through 5 processes and burns it with my video and the audio is replaced with the audio from the last burn!!!
