Status bar at bottom of browser is missing

Before updating to Firefox 7, I had the Ani-weather and Webmail add-ons that displayed at the bottom of the browser in the status bar. Now that status bar does not exist. When I went into the ani-weather configuration screen and set it to appear in the status bar I now get an error message stating that it couldn't put it in the location selected. What happened to the bottom status bar and how do I get it back?

dmcritchie, thank you for your reply and the links. I discovered shortly after I posted this question the information regarding the loss of the status bar starting with 4.0 and the need to install the add-on "status-4-evar" to get it back. Installed it and everything is as it should be.

We have an application that runs in full screen mode for public display, so having the status bar pop-up at the bottom of the screen is distracting when it moves between pages is distracting and detracts from the user experience.

Can you disable the status bar on a web browser from an applet?

I have a signed applet and am using plugin 1.3.1_02 with IE 5.5. I use the showStatus("text") method to display pertinent information to the user in the browser's status bar.
Currently I see all types of messages being displayed (in IE's status bar) as my applet communicates with the server. I would like to restrict what is shown in the status bar to show my system messages only.
Can I filter what is displayed or disable status bar functionality programmatically from the applet? Or possibly with a browser/plugin setting?

Pages not loading, suddenly today, status bar at bottom of page has red "J" for Java and I cannot figure out why or what to do

After using Firefox successfully for months, it started not loading full pages today, but showing "done" in the status bar at the bottom. I also noticed icons for Javascript, Java, Silverlight, etc., on the right side of status bar, JAVA one is red, but I don't know what that means.

What version of Pages are you running?
In Pages '09 there is a zoom control bottom left of the Pages window for Two Up.
Two Up is not available in Pages 5 as far as I know.

Status bar missing. How do you know if a site is secure without the status bar?

Found the status bar at bottom of page very useful. Its now missing. How can I tell the downloading progress and more importantly if a page is a secure site? Live in a rural area with slow internet service and both download speed and security is very important to me. Security is VERY important, as do a lot of banking and bill paying on line. Saw someplace in questions and answers that the "Status Bar" was dropped in version 4. It was working for me up through 4.0 Beta 4, but not in Beta 7. If I missed the news please let me know and also how do I tell if on a "secure" page now? Is there an "add on" that will give me the "Status Bar" back?

I have the same issue, i miss the fact that i cant watch my downloads in the status bar. as for the secure lock symbol, i found once i visit a secure site e.g HSBC website. a big green bar appears in the URL. any news post back.

Status bar in web browser

I'm adding a status bar to a web browser and I've run into a little problem. I can't get the status bar to change to reflect the url the user has the mouse over. I need to know if there's an event listener that I can use to do this. Keep in mind that a mouse listener is usually only used to signal when the pointer goes over a control (if you're using the mouseover method that is) rather than when the pointer goes over a link. It isn't an applet, it's an application and it's a web browser. I want to have a status bar at the bottom of the web browser and I want the status bar to function like in any other browser(it changes when you move the pointer over a link and when the browser is getting a page). Specifically, I need to know if there's an event handler that can tell me when a user moves the mouse pointer over a hyperlink. I am using a JEditorPane to display the web pages.

How do I get Javascript to work? It is enabled in options but nothing happens when I select something that begins "javascript" on the status bar at the bottom of screen.

When I tried to download a file from the Canon U.S.A, I clicked on the "I agree - begin download" button and nothing happened. The information in the status bar at bottom of screen, when the mouse cursor is over the download button is "javascript:downloadFile()". I got following from the error console -
Error: The stylesheet http://www.usa.canon.com/wsss/GeneratedPages/wsss_xsl/global.css was not loaded because its MIME type, "text/html", is not "text/css".

There were also many warnings about parsing of commands.
This sort of thing seems to happens whenever whenever javascript is involved.

I checked out the "Unable to download or save files" section. The only thing that seemed applicable was the "Reset download actions" section. I renamed the mimeTypes.rdf file to mimeTypes.rdf.old but it didn't seem to have any effect on downloading the file I wanted. There was still no response when I asked for the download.
I have noticed another problem that occurs when I try to download this file. I exit Firefox, then try to restart it. But nothing happens. I have discovered that in the Task Manager that the Firefox process is still running. When I end the Firefox process in the Task Manager, I am then able to restart Firefox.
By the way, I am able to download the file using Internet Explorer without difficulty.

The masked fox icon is missing from my status bar. How can I get it back?

The masked fox icon needed for personas has disappeared from the left corner of the status bar. Hoe do I get it back again and why did it disappear?

if people out there has the new FF4 then you might not see the masked fox on bottom left corner. it took me a few minutes to figure it out but i found it. ok if you dont have the status bar on bottom showing 1st thing to do is:
1st--go up top click tab called VIEW
2nd-- click toolbars
3rd-- click add-on bar
then once thats done look at the bottom & u should see a black bar on bottom left. well i was stumped also when i saw this then i then looked right then i saw the fox there. but another way to find the fox (annoying way) is to go up top click tools then personas. but i like the fox & find it much easier. glad i found it again.

How do i have status bar and a back button for applets?

I have an applet which displays a set of panels in order. Is there any way that i can have a status bar like in an browser and a back button so that it can go back and go forward. What do i need to do? Is there any sample code to do so. I am new to java and learning.

Status-Bar -- a long thin panel with a long TextField. Perhaps use something from the BorderFactory class to seperate it from other parts of the screen...
Back Button -- Keep track of your panels in a CardLayout, for example, then use a Button with an action listener that uses the CardLayout's previous() method to move back to the last panel.

ShowModalDialogue displays status bar when not told to

Hyperlink "status bar" for mail??

I don't seem to find this discussed, but why doesn't Mail have the same sort of status bar that Safari has that enables one to see--in the status bar at bottom--the url address that one might go to before actually clicking on the link. I would think it just as important, security wise, to have this option . I know, I can look behind at the source code for the email, but geez, this is asking too much when a simple pass over should enable access to the info.

you are so correct. I think I must have noticed this but put it in the back of my awareness. Appreciate the reminder. I'd still prefer an instant status bar for this, but I want to have this function so seldom (to check suspect urls, for example) that a couple of seconds wait's not too much to ask.

Change username in SAPGUI status bar

Is there a possibility to change the settings of the SAPGUI status bar (right bottom corner showing system,client, program, username etc,). I want it to show the first and last name of the user instead of the account name (which in our case is a number). Any suggestions are welcome.

How can I disable an add on of a second status bar or browsing bar at bottom of screen above the Start button? It pops up showing every site I visit.

There is status/info/browsing line of information showing every single site I use and changes with every site I visit. It isn't in a box, but it shows basically all my browsing. It is like the address bar, but it is at the bottom of the screen and the information shows right above the 'start' button. If you try to click on it, it moves to the right side and you can't right click on it to see if you can close it. It may be an add on, but I don't know how to get rid of it. It is like I have two status bars but this one isn't in a box, it just shows in a line at the bottom of the screen. It shows all browsing information, and it is very distracting when I'm using my computer.

You appear to be describing the status messages. The easiest way to hide them is to use the Status-4-Evar add-on. With it you can choose to not display any of the status messages, or display them in the add-ons bar or location bar instead.

How can I get rid of Status bar at the bottom of an applet?
I dont' wana see word "Java Applet Started". I have called
JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
Everything is fine, but the unwanted status bar at the bottom.

Not sure what you are trying to achieve here. The appletviewer sounds like it is working as designed. If you are writing an applet then I'd assume that you intend for it to be accessed via a web browser. The appletviewer is simply a test mechanism.
However, your concern about the way in which the appletviewer presents itself leads me to think that you are intending all users to run your app. using the appletviewer. If this is the case then why not just create the frame directly? This code does just that.
