Steps to apply Proxy settings for all Server in a specific OU using Group Policy ?

People,
I have several terminal server (2008 R2) running as RDSH in an OU called Terminal Servers.
So how can I create the GPO setting to make sure that everyone who login to this terminal server will be getting the proxy settings automatically to proxy.domain.com on port 3128 ?
I've created the GP object and then link it directly to the Terminal Servers OU using the following options:
User Configuration (Enabled) > Policies > Windows Settings > Internet Explorer Maintenance >
Connection/Proxy Settings > Enable proxy settings
But somehow when I login as myself and DOMAIN\Administrator the proxy settings in the IE11 is still unchecked with the old Proxy value and sometimes blank in some servers.

User policies apply to user objects - the servers will ignore them, and
as long as there is no user in your terminal servers OU, no one will get
this setting.
Link your policy to the OUs where the users are, then use item level
targeting to filter for a security group you create for this purpose,
and add all your terminal servers to this group. Don't forget to reboot
the servers after changing group memberships...

Martin,
Since the browser in the Terminal Servers are all running IE 11, do I need to do the GPO using IEAK or GPP with the new ADMX template ?

  • Update hosts file and Change proxy settings for all users on Mac

I am in a large environment with many Mac users. We have a Windows based proxy server that we are switching over within a few weeks. So far we are manually having to go to each Mac and change the proxy settings under the users account. This is a very long and painstaking process as users are on vacation etc. and our cutoff date is fast approaching for the old proxy.
we also are having to log into each workstation as administrator go into the terminal and so sudo passwd root then change the password then do sudo vi /etc/hosts to edit the hosts file.
Is there a way to change the proxy server setting for safari and firefox globally without having to log in as each user on the Mac ?
Or is there an automated way through a script that the users can run ?
These macs authenticate to active directory. They do not have a mac server but I was told to post this question here versus the desktop area.

Most browsers include an [automatic proxy configuration (PAC) mechanism|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_auto-config] and the transparent configuration of proxies, and Safari and Firefox are no different here.
The usual approach here is to have folks visit a site and select the PAC file, or to push the file out. Here is a comfiguration example from [UConn|http://helpdesk.uconn.edu/trouble/proxy/autoprox.html], and another from [Rice|http://proxy.rice.edu/setup.php], and there are others around and visible via Google.
The [pactester|http://code.google.com/p/pactester> tool might be useful, too.
If y'all get some DNS entries set up (various web browsers have [Web Proxy Auto Discovery (WPAD)|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebProxy_AutodiscoveryProtocol], when last I checked [Safari needed a little help|http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090711031033128]) and have your firewall raise an appropriate diagnostic page, you won't have to go through this again, either.
None of this stuff is particularly specific to Mac OS X or to Safari; the PAC stuff is fairly generic, and WPAD is used with various boxes. (Try Safari with WPAD, but you might still need to reference that PAC file. And if you do, using WPAD-compliant naming would probably be a reasonable approach.)
The hosts files? You're really still using those? Any chance you can get real DNS working? That's a whole lot less work, and now is the time to deploy that; if you're going to mess with everything, then you can use that effort and that requirement to (also) move forward in your networking capabilities.

  • Is it possible to change proxy settings for all profiles that´s created instead of the standard options. We need to change "use systems proxy" into "automatic"

    Proxy Problems
We need to be able to change the default settings for the proxy for all profiles on our computers that´s created for new users.
Standard is that firefox takes the option "use the system options" for the proxy. We would like it to use the option "automatic" instead like IE and Chrome does.
Considering that we have over 500 computers doing this manually isn´t an option, because a new profile is created everytime someone logs on to a computer they haven´t used before.

You can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify new default values.
Place a file local-settings.js in the defaultspref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
    pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); // use this to disable the byte-shift
    See:
You can use these functions in mozilla.cfg:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes
This will work for all existing and newly created profiles.

  • Contribute 4 - no proxy settings for outgoing CPS authorization

Does CS4 have any access to proxy settings for publishing
    server identification?
There are three outgoing requests in Contribute:
    1) FTP or SFTP --> this has a proxy setting
    2) contribute browser -> this uses proxy settings inside
of Start->Settings->Control panel -> Internet Options
    3) HTTPS: validating CPS un/pw -> this has no proxy
    setting that I can find.

Thank you for the quick reply! But the solution provided by you, it seems, has still not been able to address my issue. I ran the program at command prompt with your said parameters, but the download still gave an error in the App window.
Also, is there some way of defining these parameters in the source code? I am keen in using NetBeans to run the program.
    Cheers!

  • How could I set the proxy settings for just some URLs and not for all?

    Hello,
I am using HttpURLConnection to establish a HTTP connection . The connection pass through a proxy, and it requires security.
I know that I can set the proxy settings in the system properties, and this works perfect.
But I don't want to set the proxy settings in the system properties, because this proxy settings will be for ALL the URLs, and I just want for a few URLs.
How could I set the proxy settings for just some URLs and not for all?

  • The e-mail message could not be sent. Make sure the outgoing e-mail settings for the server are configured correctly

    I have a 2 server SharePoint farm.
All outgoing emails were working fine.
I just restarted both servers and now after that none of the emails are being sent. I am using OOB publishing workflow and it shows message:
The e-mail message could not be sent. Make sure the outgoing e-mail settings for the server are configured correctly.
Even if I setup Alert on some list, it doesn't send email.
I have checked that outgoing email setting in CA is defined and like I said it was working fine without problems but after restart it is showing error.
What could be the cause of this and how to fix it?
    EDIT
I removed outgoing mail server in CA, added again and restart IIS but still emails from OOB workflow is not being sent. But email from Alerts are being sent. Don't know what to do now.

This is really weird, It works when an alert is set but workflows doesn't send emails... Can you create a simple 1 Step workflow in SPD to send an email when a specific field is set. See if this sends an email..

I created a test workflow which sends email to user and it is also not sending email. But I am getting email from SharePoint regarding "variation" page changes as well as alerts which I told above.

  • The email message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing email settings for the server are configured properly

i have an issue when loading a workflow. it gives me a following error "The email message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing email settings for the server are configured properly". it doesnt send me any alerts and worlflow fails at the end
    with the above error message.

    Hi,
I agree with Bistesh. But after Outgoing e-mail settings are configured properly, if the issue still exists,
It may result from your Anti-Virus. Please refer to the following steps:
Open MCAfee Console and go to Access Protection window.
Click Anti-Virus Standard Protection and edit “prevent mass mailing
    worms from sending emails” rule.
Now we need to know which processes are being blocked therefore we need to check the MCAfee Log located at
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\DesktopProtection\AccessProtectionLog.txt
you may find entries of DtExec , DtExecUI and DatabaseMail90, now these processes need to be entered in the exclusion list of selected rule .
Reset the IIS And SharePoint Timer service to check if this works for you.

  • IPad and proxy settings for more than AppStore and Safari?

Why am I having problems w/ most apps and the proxy settings?  My corp. network requires proxy settings to get to the internet and only the AppStore and Safari (and a few specifically designed apps) will use the proxy settings.  All other apps simply do not work.
Is this an Apple problem?  Why was this not addressed by Apple?

    NestOfRobins wrote:
That sounds like a "cop-out" to me.  Do individual applications on desktop machines have to be "proxy aware"?
Yes, they have. Not only on iPad, but every internet application, on Mac or on PC or on *nix, have to be coded internally to use proxies. Some are, and are also smart enough to check for any proxy info on network options of your system, some other will have the proxy info to be given in internal application setup, and some other, simply does not know what proxies are.
    NestOfRobins wrote:
How can Apple expect to compete in the Enterprise space with this glaring hole in their operating system?  Why can't there be a setting, e.g., "all internet traffic to use proxy server".?
That is a SOCK, and is another different stuff. There is no hole in the O.S., it is the app you want to use, because that app wants connect the internet by herself, without using your proxy.
Best advice is, you ask that app's developer, to add in future releases, proxy connectivity or (best) to check if network requires a proxy and act accordingly without bother the user on the issue
Anyway, I'd like answer also your other questions:
    NestOfRobins wrote:

You have problems because that apps don't think about the proxy setting you have in your network configuration (app poorly coded), or they require direct internet access in their specs (app aware of proxy, and do not want use it), access that you don't have because of proxy. Not your fault. Nor Apple's

  • Configure proxy settings for WebEngine

I had no luck in finding any docs about how to configure the proxy server for a WebView/WebEngine.
I assume the system properties "http.proxyHost" and "http.proxyPort" are used if they are set, is this correct?
Is there also a way to configure the proxy settings for each WebEngine instance?
    Regards,
    Heiko

I am also getting this "error".  The printer (8500 A910) connected to the web well enough that it went out and supposedly downloaded a new update, but then it was supposed to print a page showing the email address, but did not.
So I go in and try to set up the eprint, and it tells me it cannot connect to the sever and I'll need to enter a proxy address and port number.  But my ISP's cable modems do NOT have any static IP address nor do they provide any sort of proxy service.  Everything works just fine with "automatic discovery" (DHCP) for every computer in the house.  No problems there.
So, since  that's the case, of course I cannot look up some proxy address and port number in my web browser because they're all set up for "automatically detect settings".
What's baffling is that the printer connected to something at HP to download the "update", and it went through a process that appeared to be what I'd expect it to do if it was updating its firmware.  But it won't connect to whatever it's supposed to connect to to have an email address assigned.
Does HP supply a proxy server?  If so, what's its IP address or URL, and what port should a person set the printer to try to use?
    UPDATE:
It appears that the HP site must have just been "down" for about six or seven hours while I was trying to get the printer to connect because it now connected and I got an email address asigned without needing to have any "proxy" stuff set up at all.  It's a shame that the printer does not simply report "HP Site down - try again later" instead of reporting that you need to use a proxy when that's impossible.
"Now, on to the next problem which is that my emails to the assigned address are all bouncing with a "550 5.7.1 Command rejected" error!

  • Strange info in "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains"

For my Mac Mini my Network IP Address always has a self-assigned 169.254 number that I cannot change. Strangely, this same IP number is similar to info that is in the Proxies section (of Network Settings) under "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains".
No matter what I do, this info (*,local, 169.254/16) appears in my Network Settings in the Proxies section under "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains". (I tried removing the info and it would cause the "Configure Proxies" selection to default to "Always Use PAC File". Had to go back and retrash all the plist files to have Proxies go back to "Configure Proxies-Manually". Still, the info (*,local, 169.254/16) continues to appear in the "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains" section and my IP address is always a 169.254 number.)
Comcast cable modem via direct hardwired Ethernet works fine with my other computer, so not the modem. Also, other computer does not have any info in the "Bypass Proxy Settings for These Hosts and Domains" section.
Installed a fresh copy of OS X 11.5 on a new hard drive. Still the same problem.
I posted this issue before but only got one responder and the problem still exists. Any clues? Somebody must know about this stuff. Help please.
    Thanks

When your Mac wakes up, it does not yet have an IP Addresss. It wants to send a request to a Router for an apprpriste IP address to use now. But it needs to have an IP address (like a return address) to receive any messages. So, ... wait for it,
... it (your Mac) makes one up. There are rules that ensure it is a random address, but they always start with 169.254. It is on the same subnet with any low-order 16 bits This is the "self-assigned" range of IP Addresses. This address is only good for talking on a local network segment, for things like asking for a valid IP Address from a DHCP-enabled Router.
In most cases, on most networks, the 169.254 self-assigned IP Address is replaced by a valid Local IP Address such as 192.168.xxx yyy or 10.0.xxx.yyy so quickly that you never even see the 169.254 Address.
If you do see the 169.254 Address, it can be read as "Nobody will talk to me" or "Nobody will give me an IP Address". When you have this IP Address for more than an instant, you should suspect bad cables for Ethernet connections, bad signal strength or interference for wireless, Router configuration problems, or Mac configuration problems.
Mac configuration problems are often solved by using the "Assist Me" button is System Preferences > Network  and choosing to set up again.
Another diagnostic is to try using Network Utility and the Ping function, and Ping-ing the address of your Airport base Station, often 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 or similar. This will tell you if the Router is reachable, or there are cabling/wirelss signal problems.
In this case, proxies are not an issue, and are simply a distraction from the real problems.

  • Security settings for all users

I recently developed a document that requires digital signatures and have been testing it. The only downside is that when a user opens the document, Adobe prompts for the installation of new security settings, and it installs it for that user only. I need to add a registry key to the new security settings, but it is only available to be added to the current user hive. Does anyone know how to install the new settings for all users?
Here is the registry key I need to add.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0\Security\cPubSec]
    "bSelfSignCertGen"=dword:00000000
Im using Adobe Reader 9.3 and Win XP.
    Any help would be terrific!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
There are really two separate issues. First, is Adobe pushing updates to the Acrobat Address Book (i.e. adding certificates as trust anchors) and the second issue is how you can push your own update to disable the creation of self-signed digital IDs. Although the two issues share an underlying mechanism, they are separate and you cannot leverage one for the other.
First issue first. Adobe has entered into partnership with certain Certificate Authorities and has created a mechanism to add their certificates to the Acrobat Address Book (aka Manage Trusted Identities) using http to send a copy of the Security Settings file that contains only digital IDs. There are two ways to trigger the download process. One is to go into the Preferences, select Trust Manager, and click the Update Now button in the Automatic Updates group box. The other method is to load the DigSig plug-in (beginning with Acrobat 9, plug-ins no longer load a launch in order to speed up the launch process). As I'm sure you have deduced, opening a file with a signature field cause the DigSig plug-in to load which in turn triggers the automatic download. The reason we have limited the automatic download to DigSig being loaded is because the vast majority of people viewing PDFs are not using the digital signature functionality (much to my personal chagrin because the more people use digital signatures, the better my job security ) and we didn't want to bother them with an update they would never need. People already complain that there are too many updates, and we are trying to limit the irritability factor. To close the loop on this function, once the download process has been triggered the Acrobat check two more things before it does the update, 1) has it been a month since I checked and, 2) if it has been a month is there a new file to download. This way we are not pestering people with unneeded updates, or if they do need the update, at least not too often. And finally, Address Book management has to be on a per user basis. A certificate that you may elect to trust could be a certificate that the next person want to specifically keep untrusted. The Windows Certificate Store, Mac Keychain and Firefox Certificate Manager all work on a per user basis.
That brings us to what you would like to do. The good news is you can use the Export Security Settings featrue to create a distributable file that will set the preference. The real question is how will you distribute the file, but before we get to that, here is how to create the file.
With Acrobat closed, set the registry setting you noted in the message above
    Launch Acrobat
Select the Advanced > Security > Export Security Settings menu item
Click the Deselect All button on the Export Security Settings dialog
Select the Signing Preferences Settings checkbox
Click the OK button on the Export Security Settings dialog
Select Signature Creation Settings and note "Allow creation of self-signed Digital IDs" is set to No
Click the Export button on the toolbar
Follow the on screen dialogs. You don't have to encrypt the file, but you must sign it with a certifying signature
At this point you have the file available for distribution. You could e-mail it to your intended recipients with import instructions, or you could post if for download, or you could set the Preference the to automatically push the file from a server. To check this feature out select the Edit > Preferences menu item and then select Security from the Categories list box. You would need to select the Load security settings from a server checkbox and then set up the URL. As an aside, you can also export these settings by selecting the Automatic Update Settings checkbox on the Export Security Settings dialog noted in the bullet points above. You have a chicken and egg problem in that you have to get the users to first manually import the file in order to set up the automatic import. That I can't help you with, you're just going to have to decide what works best for you.
    Good luck,
    Steve

  • The e-mail message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing e-mail settings for the server are configured correctly.

    Hi,
I have SP 2013, and it was working properly. and workflows send emails perfectly. yesterday, i decided to build a fresh site collection so i deleted the old one and created a new one. now, workflows are unable to send emails. i'm sure it has nothing to do
with my mail server cuz no changes happened to it. i'm sure about the settings for outgoing mail on central admin. all i did, was to enter mail server IP in outgoing mail field and email below it.
in the workflow status the status says "error" followed by this message: "The e-mail message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing e-mail settings for the server are configured correctly."
    Any help please?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you failed to send email after building a fresh site collection.
I recommend to verify that you have entered your SMTP server name correctly.
You can add it as FQDN e.g. ServerName.DomainName.

  • Proxy settings for XML iview

We have been struggling to create an XML iview using the XML iview template since we installed EP 6.0 SP9. We tried to upgrade to SP13, SP14 but still did not work. Recently we upgraded to SP18 and today SP19, and we got a new error message "Runtime error in XML iView. Proxy settings on the server may not be configured".
We don't use any proxy servers in our network.  I have also tried to configure the proxy settings in system configuration and restart the service but the error keeps unchanged.
We are almost desperated but without the XML iview Portal means nothing to us.

    Thank you for replying, Prem.
We don't have to go though a proxy server to access the internet.  And the XML source URL is from our internal server netword.  So I believe that we don't need to configure the proxy setting in this case.
We have also tried to configure the proxy settings as instructed in many messages but it still doesn't work.
Is there anything else that we might be missing for creating an XML iview?

I guess some folks like to individually configure the columns of each and every of their playlists. But I like uniformity ... How can I apply global settings to all of my MANY existing playlists, like, let's say, Coverflow plus a certain selection of non-default columns.

Maybe I should add that I do know global view settings are NOT a feature of iTunes 10.3. So it's not a matter of "where is the button I have to click".
I also know that Apple Scripts exist as workarounds, but unfortunately I'm using Windows XP.
Therefore, it's a question for the real experts amongst you, as some serious iTunes-tweaking is involved, either in Windows Registry, or in some hidden config-file.
The most important question, though, is: why on earth are global view settings not a natural part of iTunes since Day One.
