Steps to "de-pod" workspaces in FM 9

In a current thread
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/707908?tstart=0
a user is having problems working with a large file in FM9. I suggested he try "de-podding" the FM workspace to see whether that saved enough RAM and whether that might help to  successfully create the print file without graphics dropping out.
Info about the workspaces is here:
Workspaces in FrameMaker 9
The pods are where FM enumerates variables, markers, cross-refs, conditional text, fonts, and all the other goodies it creates / uses. Even if your particular docs don't use any of these features, my understanding is that FM still has to scan the doc to populate these panels, adding processing time and overhead.
In my own experience, being able to use a "de-podded" workspace is essential to being able to open and work with "large" files. System has 4gigs of RAM, WInXP. In an extreme example, a single chapter of 1800  pages of tables, approx 1.4 million cells total. The symptoms of the problem are that the files either won't open, or they're excruciatingly slow to open, or there is display and system instability to the point where FM has to be closed in Task Manager and the system rebooted. In a typical example, a de-podded workspace opens the file in approx 6 seconds. With the FM workspace called "Authoring" it brings FM to a complete halt. A smaller subset file of this, 83 pages, takes 4 seconds to open de-podded, 1.55 minutes with Authoring workspace.
Following the instructions in the above Workspaces explanation it's possible to create your own workspace files; I will post my own versions of these files in a reply to this message, if anybody would like to test them.
Regarding the "de-podding" process, though, I found that the following was ** essential ** in order to have the pods correctly suppressed.
Two steps are needed in order to get FM to be correctly de-podded for a given user:
1. put the nopods.fws and .cfws into the user’s Documents and Settings location (location varies according to Windows version)
2. have the user open FM, open a new blank FM document, select the "NoPods" workspace, close the new document, and use File > Exit to close FM.
If #2 isn’t done, then the symptom is that FM won’t open existing files (either double-clicking in Explorer or doing File Open in FM’s menu)  with nopods active, even though nopods files exist in the correct Documents and Settings location and even though FM will, however, open a new blank document and have the nopods correctly activated.
Sheila

I don't know whether the forum software will mangle the following content or not, but here's a test.
Save the lines after the two  ====  lines as "NoPods.cfws" in  %APPDATA%\Adobe\FrameMaker\9\WorkSpaces\Unstructured
where %APPDATA% is something like c:\documents and settings\<username>\Application Data
The location varies depending on your Windows version.

  • Manual configuration steps of isapi for workspace 11.1.2

    Hi there,
after installing and configuring foundation and workspace 11.1.2 the IIS-isapi part is failing. All weblogic domains are up and running.
eventlogs show "could not load all ISAPi filters for the site "default website" ".
we are running on IIS7.5 which might be not supported, but I suppose a manula change to the configuration would get it working.
I can't find any papers or manuals on this topic in particulair related to 11.1.2.
    Detlev
ps configuring it via oracle http server seems less painfull. But i like to have it running on IIS.

Problem : Hyperion 11.1.2 deploys wrong IIS plugins on 64bit Windows Systems
on 64 bit windows servers the wrong dll are deployed. : iisforward.dll and iisproxy.dll
you can copy the right dll's from
    $EPM_ORACLE_HOME\..\wlserver_10.3\server\plugin\win\x64\
    and move them to $EPM_INSTANCE_HOME\<DomainName>\VirtualHosts\

  • FM9 crashing when moving the mouse to the pods

    Hi,
I've FM9 (on XP SP3) frequently crash when moving the mouse cursor over one of the hidden "pods" in the lower side of the window (Conditional Text, to be precise).
I've sent Adobe several of the crash logs, but it seems there is no update fixing this issue.
Is someone else having this problem? I feel I alread asked this in this forum, but I can no longer find the thread.
    Paolo

Paolo, just to be clear, "undocking" the pods by moving them away from your work area is different from actually "de-podding" -- which means stopping the pod from being displayed  -- by changing your workspace settings.
There are some instructions about creating a custom workspace, in which you can stop the pods from being displayed or being "active" even when they are being minimizd, here:

    Hi,
I managed to fix this on my own as I started looking at the BPEL side of things and started getting errors deploying services to the SOA Server due to too many files being open.
To fix this I bumped up my open files max from 1024 to 4096.
I also added some extra Java properties to my setDomainEnv.sh to get rid of the following start up message...
<BEA-000402> <There are: 5 active sockets, but the maximum
number of socket reader threads allowed by the configuration is: 4. You
may want to alter your configuration.>
    EXTRA_JAVA_PROPERTIES="${EXTRA_JAVA_PROPERTIES} -Dweblogic.ThreadPoolPercentSocketReaders=50 -Dweblogic.ThreadPoolSize=100 -Dweblogic.SelfTuningThreadPoolSizeMin=100"
    export EXTRA_JAVA_PROPERTIES
This definitely improved performance drastically but I don't know which of the above steps fixed my BPM Workspaces problem (maybe its both) but they both helped me with each problem I had.
    Cheers.

  • ORA-20001: error 29th ORA-24344 When creating a workspace

    Hi,
    I just installed APEX 4.0 on 10g (10.2.0.4).
When I tried to create a new workspace, at the last step (after clicking "Create Workspace" button), it fails with the following error.
ORA-20001: error 29th ORA-24344: success with compilation error
    Error provisioning test.
I could not find any errors in PLSQL debug error, and in DBA_ERRORS table.
Could you help me to fix this problem? I ran utlrp.sql to make sure we don't have invalid objects. And I read the installation log and found no errors. XDB, OWA installed.
I have another APEX 4.0 instance on 11g R2, and it works fine.
    Thanks

    thanks.
Yes, that's I already checked and confirmed that the privilege is granted.
DBA_ERRORS did not show any errors owned by APEX% users.
But I did see some errors owned by XDB.
    PL/SQL: Item ignored
PLS-00201: identifier 'UTL_FILE' must be declared
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
PLS-00201: identifier 'DBMS_LOB' must be declared
It seems the DB has revoked some public access for security reasons.
So, I am trying to ask DBA to grant the privileges to XDB.

This creates a database directory named ‘OWB_REMOTE_ADMIN’ that the remote installation will access to read the database servers OWBHOME/owb/bin/admin directory. Relaunch the Repository Assistant or execute OWB scripting command OMBSEED to seed the repository.
Since we have installed the Oracle 11g rel 2 database, the OWB are already in that installation. I also tried to run the remote_owb_install.sql and applied the OWBHOME/owb/bin/ when running sql. I still have the same problem.
Anyone experienced this and have a solution to solve this?

  • Hyperion workspace and Planning

    Hi,
I have installed Essbase, Essbase Admin service, Hyperion Planning, Hyperion Reporting & UI service for workspace, SQL seerver and Weblogic 9.2 web application server. I have configured all. However i m not sure about Configuration whether it is right or incorrect.
I want to open Hyperion workspace to see & create planning application
Please guide me all the required steps to open Hyperion workspace
    Thanks
    Prince

    Hi,
First of all make sure the account you are using has been provisioned with the roles of Application Creator, Dimension Editor in Shared Services.
Also you will need to have created a datasource in the config utility before creating an application.
The first application you created it is often easier to go direct to planning http://<planning machine>:8300/HyperionPlanning/AppWizard.jsp
If that is all working you test the web server plugin is working, if you are using apache then http://<workspace machine>:19000/HyperionPlanning/
If it takes you directly to planning then it is configured.
Now you can go directly to workspace :- http://<workspace machine>:19000/workspace/index.jsp
    Cheers
    John

  • Migrate APex workspace to new database

    Hi
Can someone please help me out with the steps to migrate the Workspace from 1 database to another ? The app server remains the same, we are migrating the db to a different platform.
I have Dashboard , Apex_data and flows_03100 schema created by Apex.
    Thanks
    Edited by: user622632 on Mar 16, 2009 4:46 PM

I tend to migrate workspaces from my office to my home by using SQL*Developer-export it has the ability to create the DDL with the data option.
Then export my applications and images.
At New station with APEX installed:
    1. Create the workspace using the apex_admin login.
    2. Create a connection in SQL*Developer to the new workspace.
    3. Run the DDL in SQL*Developer (make sure you run it as the right user).
    4. Import my applications and images.
That should give you a general idea.
Try using SQL*Developer to export Dashboard and Apex_data for the DDL, then follow the steps above to migrate them to the other database.
    Good luck,
    Mike

Beyond this the JDev becomes practically unusable, as if I try clicking on any thing else I get the error, "The J2SE version must be specified"
Only way to recover from the error is to close Jdev and re open the same. But even then I am not able to change any library setting for the project.
Any suggestions on how to get around the problem?

I believe I figured it out .. thanks

  • How can I get rid of email address not in use

I have an email address which I used to set up my Apple ID. That address is now disabled so I have gone to my details and updated them to the new address. But I can't sign in to iCloud or update my apps as it keeps telling me to sign in using the now disabled email address. In iTunes I can change it to my new address, but not apps or iCloud. When I go to reset the password I am asked to change the password in my new address but that's not what I want to do. I've tried all the different passwords I can think of when using the old address but none work. Also I selected personal details rather than email as it would never get through, obviously, and so put in my birthday.  But they say my birthday date is not in their records!  What?  So I go to my details and there it is, in black and white, exactly what I was typing in! This is driving me insane. Is there any way I can delete my original, without having to put in the password for that ID?  I really hope someone can help me.  I did see a section somewhere which said did I want to delete an old email address but again, I had to put in the password for that email address and I DON'T HAVE IT!
By the way, I am an OAP. So I would appreciate it if anyone who can help makes it easy to understand!  Many thanks.

After you sign in with the old ID and are presented with the option to keep the information on the iPad, you should say yes to that. Then you should be able to delete the account on the device. After you delete the account, you can - or you should be able to - sign in with the new Apple ID.
I tried these very same steps on my Pod Touch and it worked exactly the way that I'm describing. When you sign in again with the new ID, you will be given the option to merge Reminders, Bookmarks, Etc, with those in iCloud.com. I selected the option to merge all of the information. Nothing was duplicated and everything was exactly as it was before I deleted the iCloud account.
So ... sign into your new ID in Settings>iTunes & App Store. Tap the old ID and sign out. Then sign in with the new ID. Then delete the old iCloud account like I explained above and then sign in with the new Apple ID, all of your purchased content and iCloud content should be good to go.

I've red somewhere that FB needs Java v1.6. Can this be the reason? How to run 1.6 and 1.8 in parallel on a Mac?

    Please try the following steps:
Rename the default workspace"Adobe Flash Builder 4.7"( on Mac it's located at /Users/USER_NAME/Documents/Adobe Flash Builder 4.7) and try launching Flash Builder.Even if this doesn't work. Please un-install Flash Builder and use the cleaner tool(from this location http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html ) to clean and re-install Flash Builder.
Please let me know if this works.

  • Setting up Row Level Security in EPM 11.1.1.3

I have been following the Administration guide but failed to setup row level security in EPM 11.1. Please advise which part of my steps are wrong. (note I am using MS SQL Server for the EPM Shared Services and Workspace database, everything under Windows env)
    i) Enable row level security in Workspace.
Step 1) Define a ODBC Data Source named "EPM_WS" in Windows. The ODBC Data Source points to the MS SQL Server database of EPM Workspace since it contains the 3 tables (BRIOSECG, BRIOSECP, BRIOSECR) related to row-level-security.
Step 2) Login to workspace, select "Administer"->"Configuration Console". Edit "Interactive Reporting Data Access Services" and add a data source with ODBC->MS SQL Server -> "EPM_WS" as the name of datasource. Restart "Interactive Reporting Data Access Services".
Step 3) Login to workspace, select "Administer"->"Row Level Security". Check "Enable Row Level Security", Choose ODBC->MS SQL Server-> fill in "EPM_WS" as Data Source Name"-> Provide correct user name and password. Click "Save Properties"
Step 4) It always prompt "Server error setting the Connectivity. Recommended Action: Logoff and logon again. If problem persists contact your local security administrator."
Any log I can inspect for the connectivity error?
ii) Configure Row Level Security setting
I know that for Hyperion IR, there is a file row_level_security.bqy comes with the installation. User can use this bqy file to configure the actual row level security setting. However, I cannot locate this bqy file in the EPM 11.1 installation. What is the proper step for setting up the row level security configuration?

  • Unable to open Dreamweaver using OS X 10.9.2

I recently updated to Maverick OS 10.9.2 and am now unable to open Dreamweaver CS5 11.0--an error message appears saying that Dreamweaver closed unexpectedly.  I've also tried installing Dreamweaver updates but I'm not able to.

Please try to clean your DW CS5 preferences by following the steps mentioned below:
Open “Finder” and press CMD+SHIFT+G to open the “Go to the folder” dialog
Type ‘~/Library’ (without the quotes; note the ~ sign before /Library) and click “Go”
    Navigate to “Application Support/Adobe/”
Locate the folder named “Dreamweaver CS5” and make a backup of this folder (this will be needed to restore vital preferences later)
Rename/Delete the folder “Dreamweaver CS5” (again without the quotes)
Create a new folder named “Dreamweaver CS5” (again without the quotes)
Create a new folder named “ab_XY” (without the quotes; for example: en_US; you can get this in your backup folder! where ab_XY is the locale in which Dreamweaver was installed)
Navigate inside the folder “ab_XY” and create a new folder named “Configuration” (without the quotes)
    Navigate inside the folder “Configuration”
From the backup folder, copy the following folders (if available/present on your system) and paste them inside the “Configuration” folder (please the attached screen shot “Restore_Selected_Preferences_CS5_Mac.png” for reference):
    CodeCollapse
    CodeColoring
    CodeHints
    DocumentTypes
    DVADialogPrefs
    Snippets
    Workspace
Open “Finder” and press CMD+SHIFT+G to open the “Go to the folder” dialog
Type ‘~/Library’ (without the quotes; note the ~ sign before /Library) and click “Go”
    Navigate to “Preferences/” folder
Locate the file “Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Prefs” and rename/delete the file
Now try to launch Dreamweaver again and see if you still face the issue.
Please Note: After you have launched Dreamweaver, please ensure that you DO NOT launch “Adobe BrowserLab” panel. Please create a new workspace by following the steps mentioned below, according to your liking but please refrain from using “Adobe BrowserLab” panel as this is known to cause a crash in Dreamweaver on Mac 10.9.
Steps to create a workspace (without “Adobe Browser Lab”):
    Launch Dreamweaver
Locate “Adobe BrowserLab” (but don’t open it) and click the top-right-hand-side corner of the panel and  select the option “Close Tab Group”
Now, arrange the remaining panels in your workspace as per your liking
Go to menu “Window -> Workspace Layout -> New Workspace…”
In the “New Workspace” dialog, provide a name of your choice and click “OK” button
Also, you may like to visit this page: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/dreamweaver-java-se-6-runtime.html for a known issue of Dreamweaver not launching after upgrading to Mac 10.9 (Mavericks).
If the issue still persists even after cleaning your Dreamweaver CS5 preferences, please let us know. We would like to have a connect session with you to resolve your query at the earliest.
Also, let me take this opportunity to propose and introduce the latest Dreamweaver CC to you. Dreamweaver CC provides you the potential and ability to do much more and gives you the cutting edge in your business. You may like to take a look at its features at http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/features.html. I’m sure you’ll find more than what you have been looking for and you’ll love them.
Here's how you can buy Dreamweaver CC:
