Stereo Surround for Multi Channel Sounds Cards... Not Working

I have an Audidy 2 and utilize the Stereo Surround mode to listen to my music coming from all 5 of my speakers. I upgraded to iTunes 7 and noticed sound only from the left and right channels. I thought something had happened to the Sound Blaster setting, but it was still configured for 5.1 surround. I noticed all other sounds in Windows were coming in stereo surround... just not iTunes.
Prior to upgrading, version 6 allowed this functionality. It's nice to listen to the music in a large room coming from all speakers.
Has anyone else had this problem or can they duplicate it???

It didn't work

  • Multi-Channel Sound Cards

    Hi,
I was wondering if flash player had support for multi-channel
sound cards. Everytime I play a .swf with sound i only get audio
    out of two channels.

The audio interfaces that I use are an EMU 1820 and a Tascam FW-1884 firewire device. Both are fine for what I do (broadcast quality material). I believe the EMU gives better audio quality and is certainly more robust, but the Tascam, being Firewire, is more easily movable between machines. I also like to work with real faders and it integrates well enough with Audition to be usable. The EMU has the incredibly flexible virtual mixer, but I find it hard work keeping my brain up to speed with this.
I also have other cards either inside machines or usb, but these are all just 2 channel.
I'd be surprised if anyone was using Audition for logging, as the requirements are rather specialised. I'm way out of touch with this field now, but the requirements used to be that the recorder could be left to run continuously, and users on the network should be able to pull material off at random while the recording continued. Recording is the fairly easy bit, management is the problem.
I'd have thought any computer based system ought to be capable of high quality. There are one or two low-cost or free loggers, I believe, but I've no idea how useful they are.

  • Multi-Channel Sound Card?

I have the 13" Aluminum MacBook from late 2008... (The specs for which are at http://support.apple.com/kb/SP500 - I read them but they didn't answer my question)
Does this unit have a multi-channel sound card? If so, how is this used? I'm looking to run Mixmeister Fusion on it, but I'm not sure if the sound card is compatible.
If it's not, is there an external card I can plug in that would make this work?
    Thanks!

Mixmeister has some devices that they recommend listed on their web site:
    http://www.mixmeister.com/products_djhardware.html
You might also try asking for opinions and advice in their own forums. You'll be more likely to get replies that are truly applicable there, I would guess.
    Regards.

  • Audio / Sound Card not working after Soundblaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg

Ok, first - confess - it was stupid. I installed the Soundblaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg package, which i downloaded from the internet, to make the harman Kardon Soundsticks (USB-Version) working, as nothing happened when plugging them in.
First, it ruined the mouse working after reboot and also disabled the internal sound card, not even as device available anymore. I fixed the mouse problem by installing IOUSBFamily-281.4.0-log(PPC).dmg
How can I make the sound card be available and working again ? I also updated to 10.4.11. Did not help ! Can you ? Thanks !

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, look in system preferences, accounts, and for your login account look at login items to see if there is a Soundblaster USB module that is loaded when you reboot your system. Delete it if there is one.
If you updated to 10.4.11 by software update, download the combo update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html . The combo update is a complete update for all updates to 10.4, and installing the combo sometimes fixes odd things.

  • Sound card not working anymo

Hello. i've been working on this for the past 5 hours, but i've taken a breath and now i'm going to post here to see if any one can help me out. Im working with 2 computers, heres one:
    [Computer One]
Yesterday, i first noticed that when i plugged in my microphone (a new one i bought) to the sound card i have (Audigy 2 ZS Platinum), it crashes my computer.
Today, i tried a newer headset, a USB one, and plugged it in. (these headsets are logitech). The microphone works good (while plugged into the card, but then i have like maybe 2.5% volume (very very, very low) in the headphones. I checked my system volume, i changed around EVERY thing to see if i could get the phones to work, but no sound from my voice chat server (Teamspeak) would play at any hearable level. (i know it worked because they yelled and i could hear them, a little).
So after that all does not work, i plug in my old trusty headset (to the front dri've bay i got with my card) and then i start getting ERRORS and stuff when i open teamspeak, heres the 2 i get:
"OpenDevice Specified device identifier is out of range", then I hit OK and it gives me: "waveInGetDevCaps Specified device indentifier is out of range".
I then uninstall my drivers for the sound card, and download these: SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006
When I try to install them, it says something like: please make sure your sound card is installed correctly, or something of the nature.
    [Computer Two]
I install my old Sound Blaster Li've 5. card on my second computer, and i download the drivers for it, and it says the same thing when installing drivers: "make sure its installed correctly," like my Audigy 2 ZS Plat. Thats when it hit me, there has to be something i'm doing wrong here, how it could give me the same error on 2 machines?
I really have no idea what to make of this, any help is appreciated

  • Sound Card not working (resolved)

I've got a new system, and the integrated sound card on it isn't working, so I swiped the PCI sound card from my old computer and inserted it.  And it's not working.  I've pretty much tried every method on the troubleshooting section of ALSA's page on the wiki, without any luck.  And yes, this includes unmuting and setting the volume of the sound channels.

I already knew that I had two cards.  I added in the second one because the integrated chip wasn't working.  Anyways, here's the results of lspci -nn:

  • Other Device/Sound Card not working properly

My sound card keeps failing. I can restart my computer and it will work fine for a random amount of time. But usually I'll be running youtube or soundcloud and the audio will just stop. The video will stop and no longer play.  I can try video files on my computer and they won't even play on Windows Media Player. I try in VLC and the video will play, but not the audio.  I've tried every driver known to the HP driver update process, I've tried updating the Intel Chip the Bios, everything.  I'm out of options. Can you help?

Hi: You need this driver for the unknown device and you may have to manually install it by browsing to the driver folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66001-66500/sp66231.exe The only suggestion I can offer for the audio is if your model has the Realtek HD audio system, accept the agreement, download and install the second driver on the list. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

  • Cirrus Logic sound card not working - Just a quick question (iMac 27-inch)

Hi, so as many have experienced, my sound card is not registering on my new iMac, on the Windows Vista side. I get sound out of the Mac side, just nothing from Windows.
I was wondering, would a USB sound card or sound pod solve the problem? I am not amazing with computers... But would buying one of those be a possibility?
I was looking at something like this...
    http://www.emicrophones.com/p-1230-andrea-pure-audio-usb-sa-full-duplex-usb-soun d-pod.aspx
If anyone who knows what they're talking about could give me some input on this, it would be greatly appreciated. I do a lot of video editing on the Windows side, so having no sound would be an extreme burden.

Hi - I had this problem when I installed WIndows Vista (32 bit) on my i5 iMac. I believe I resolved the problems by finding the drivers on the OSX install disk. What I am struggling with is updating the video drivers - but that is another story...

Please let me know if i miss something here.
PS: I have checked each option from the Query drop down like "Equals any of" and "Contains any of" not working in case of multi value attribute. Please help.

  • X-Fi: cannot get multi-channel sound or SPDIF passthrough

I've owned an X-Fi XtremeMusic since it first came out, and have been running it with a MCE2005 system. I've had it hooked up to a home theater receiver via SPDIF and 5. analog, but have only had stereo speakers until today. So, right now I'm trying to get multi-channel sound to work. I'm using the latest drivers (have also tried the original drivers) and have all Microsoft patches applied.
First, I cannot seem to get it out of stereo mode. Using the analog outputs to the 5. analog input on my receiver and setting the X-Fi to 5. speakers refuses to produce sound from anything except front left/right. I've used the Speaker Connection Wizard, the THX Console, the Speaker & Headphone console... and no matter what speaker icon I click on the sound comes out of the front left or right as if it is downmixing. I've also tried 4.0, 6. and 7. modes - no improvement. Also, multi-channel sound does not work in MCE setup, games, etc.
Quite by accident I discovered that if I enable CMSS I can get *some* sort of sound from the rear speakers, but only in the sense of an effect. Also, with CMSS enabled, when testing the front center I get the word "front" out of the left/right speakers which then fades out before "center". If I test it again I get nothing (except a slight effect from the rear).
Finally, I cannot get the SPDIF passthrough to work (it DOES work just fine passing out stereo 48khz sound). I've enabled SPDIF on the flexi-jack, I've set Dolby Digital and DTS to "external decoder required", and NONE of my applications present me with an option to use the SPDIF. This includes MCE, VLC and the latest version of CyberLink PowerDVD. Basically it seems that they can't see that there is a SPDIF on the system to use.
Anyone else experienced this? I've spent 5 hours testing everything I can think of and trying different combinations of settings and I am completely at a loss!

Well, I guess I'll answer my own problem in the hopes that it might help someone else.
It seems that hour 8 of frustrated troubleshooting turned up the cure: all of this boils down to Logitech's stupid Quickcam Fusion drivers. With Logitech's "AEC" echo cancellation mode enabled for the built-in microphone, their drivers automatically turn audio acceleration down to second from the bottom. This results in the X-Fi performing nearly no hardware processing (later testing with DXDiag also said I had no hardware buffer). This results in no multi-channel audio, and no SPDIF passthrough.
There are a couple of solutions...
) Disable "AEC" mode from the Logitech Quickcam control panel applet's Audio tab (and reboot). This worked for me.
    2) If this doesn't work, go into the Device Manager and disable the Quickcam's microphone (and reboot). This worked for me, but then I tried # which also worked and still let me use the microphone.
    3) Logitech's site (which mentions this problem/solution but only in the context of it causing BSOD crashes, not with it messing up multi-channel sound cards) mentions renaming one of their Audio directories to disable the microphone, although I don't see why this would be better than #2 (see http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...p?p_faqid=4066 for more).
    4) Unplug the camera.
So, I'm back in business - or rather, I'm only NOW in business!
Interesting that the Creative diagnostics utility turned up anything amiss. It claimed that everything was hunky dory, when the card was obviously in a mode where it could not possibly work correctly.

  • SB04100 Sound Blaster Card not working after computer rebuild

=SB0400 Sound Blaster Card not working after computer rebuildZ I did a full disk format and reinstall for a friend on a Dimension 3000, running XP SP3. There is no sound at all. Speakers are good, tested on another system. Model number on the back of the sound card is SB0400, so I assume this is an older 24 bit PCI SoundBlaster card. Although I reinstalled all drivers from Dell, I found no drivers for this. The Creative site has no listing for this model.
Computer does not seem to recognize the card. Have not opened the box yet but I assume if I were to remove and then reinstall the card it would be recognized (?) I then have to find an SB0400 driver.
Does anyone know where I can find an SB0400 driver ? Does the strategy of pulling and reinstalling the card make sense ? (I have really avoided tampering with any of the hardware on this box -- since it is not mine.)

Re: SB0400 Sound Blaster Card not working after computer rebuild? Thanks much for your response. Problem solved for now. I removed the board and then reinserted it, after which I was able to download the drivers directly. Some of my difficulty with this whole process has been ) I didn't know there was no working speaker in the computer and 2) I apparently misunderstood the BIOS settings for this. I re-set it up as an add-on board during the troubleshooting process. After loading the driver, I went back to the original setting (don't recall what it was but it was for integrated sound). The setting for integrated sound works fine, with external speakers and the new 24 bit driver. Still some noise (popping and static) but this board shares the bus with 2 other cards one of which is a wireless network card. May be a PCI latency issue but I'm reluctant to change that because the network card is a bit shaky anyway.
Everything works for now -- I'll be glad to get this particular computer out of my house !

  • Windows Update installed the drivers for the wrong sound card?

I need serious help with this one.
It all started October 31st when I find that Windows Update lists an update for my sound card - a Sound Blaster Li've! 24bit internal card. I install it, reboot, and realize that my sound is not coming through the speakers (Note, sound was working before I installed this update. I'm not even sure if the sound card is processing to it). I realized that Windows Update seemed to have installed the drivers for the wrong sound card. It installed drivers for "SB Audigy" (it was originally SB Li've!), why they chose to be so generic - I don't know. I later find out that not even Creative's website has this updated driver, but apparently, only Windows Update is issuing this out.
But wait, it gets even more frustrating.
So I don't have System Restore enabled (big resource hog), and I need to go back to the older drivers. I originally do a driver rollback using the Device Manager, which made the drivers go back to what they were before - but still wasn't outputting sound. I think even though the older drivers were being used by Windows, the software that Creative issued wasn't picking up this fact and thought I still using the newer ones for Audigy. So I decided to uninstall everything and start with an actual driver installation executable from Creative's website (SB24_PCDRV_LB__04_0090.exe). What I found out was that if new drivers are detected, I can't actually install over them.
However, if I uninstall the drivers using the Device Manager, it'll automatically install everything - the control panel, the preferences, drivers, etc for the new "SB Audigy" drivers that were issued Oct 3st once I scan for hardware changes. The reason I need to scan for hardware changes is because if I uninstall the drivers from the Device Manager, it'll remove the instance of "SB Audigy" from the list. This causes problems for the installer for the older drivers (SB24_PCDRV_LB__04_0090.exe) because now it thinks there isn't any hardware to install the drivers for (all because I haven't made the Device Manager actually discover my actual sound card, yet unless I press "Scan for Hardware changes" which as a result, will install the newer drivers from Oct 3st automatically. I hope this makes sense so far).
So now I can't uninstall the newer incorrect drivers so I can install the older ones for the actual sound card. Normally I heard that you can change something in the new driver's installation executable to properly uninstall everything. Only problem is, Windows Update doesn't exactly tell you where it's downloading the driver/hardware installation files. I know in the Software Distribution you can find Windows Update stuff downloading there - but I couldn't find the SB Audigy driver update it keeps installing while "scanning for hardware changes" in the Device Manager.
This was incredibly hard to put into detail, so I hope that it makes a little bit of sense. If you need clarification on anything please let me know and I'll do anything to help eliminate the problem. Just remember I have:
    Windows 7 x64
    Sound Blaster Li've! 24bit
I think the only problem I'd like to solve is - how could I install older drivers if Windows keeps installing the newer ones even after I uninstall them? Because right now, I can't do much unless I know how to get rid of the installation files for the Oct 3st update so it won't have anything to use. Another way to rephrase the question is, how could I get the Device Manager in Windows to display my soundcard as "Multimedia Audio Controller" for as long as I need so I can run SB24_PCDRV_LB__04_0090.exe which will then detect that there is a sound card that can use the drivers and install them properly?
Thanks for your help guys, I hope we can solve this. Because I've done everything I could. Hopefully I don't need to reinstall the operating system just so I can have sound working.

Click on Start> ALL Programs > Creative > Creative Audio Console.
Make sure speakers are set to 5. if that's what you're using. I like to Synchronize with Windows Control Panel. Turn EAX to No effects, and/or turn effects to 0%. On the CMSS 3D Tab, turn the Mode to OFF.

  • An application for multi-channel measurements

Does NI have a software solution for multi-channel measurements? I mean systems for measurements, tests and monitoring which contain numerous DAQ devices with thousands of sensors.
I suppose the software for such system should have the following features:
    Instrument control
Sensor management (type, s/n, accuracy, calibration data, next calibration date, measurement limits, etc.)
    Data acquisition
    Storing data in databases
    Data visualisation and analysis
    Report generation
Tools for creating custom user interfaces / data visualisations for monitoring
As far as I know the DIAdem is great for data analysis, visualisation and report generation but it's not suitable for other tasks. With LabVIEW you can do anything but it's not an "out-of-the-box" solution.
Just to clarify what I'm talking about, here's an application that seems to fit the description. It's the HBM catman. Maybe someone worked with it? Do you know any analogues for it?

Just to add to Hooovahh's comments.
NI has flat out stated that they do not want to make turn-key solutions.  That would take away from them being able to make tools for people to create the solutions.  That is why they have alliance partners.  These partners take the tools made by NI and make really cool stuff.  My latest project was a software package that helped a technician build a jet engine correctly so that the turbine blades do not come out and destroy the engine (just slightly important).  I have also done some test systems for space craft avionics.
So if you are really serious about this, I highly recommend finding an Alliance Partner to help you out.  If you want, give me a PM and I can work on getting you and a few people on my side to discuss your requirements and proceed from there.
