Still Frames Disappear in Project Frame

Working with imovie 08, at work, I capture videos from hdv camera. I have to select short clips of work video and create projects from the clips. Then I use the "add still frame to project", and usually the still frames stay in the project frame while I'm doing this. I then use finder to locate them once I am finished. The stills are now disappearing from the project frame and are no where to be found. I had done this procedure many times (30+) with no problem, now I can't find them anywhere. help!

So what I am realizing is that all of my sequences have been created with incorrect settings, thus greatly downgrading the film quality. I wish I had picked up in this earlier rather than the last bit of my production. Because now the 25 minutes of sequences, and nested sequences are all basically incorrect. I figured that the poor display was related to Premieres program monitor, and that after rendering, it would display more clearly. But that is just impossible, when placing uncompressed progressive footage 1366X768, square pixels and 30fps into sequences that are 720X480, 29.97, and a non-square pixel aspect ratio...
So I'm wondering, is there any way to change the sequence settings  or place all of the edited footage in new, matching sequences without essentially re-editing the whole film?
Any helpful words are appreciated.

  • Can I take a frame from my project and use it as a custom menu background with CS4 and its Encore

    My project is edited in CS4.
    I moved it to Encore CS4.
    I don't want to use any of the supplied menu templates in CS4 Encore.
    I was hoping CS4 would be all I needed to create custom menus using scenes from my project.
    My question is: Can I take a frame from my project and use it as a custom menu background with CS4 and its built in Encore or do I need some other element from the Adobe catalog to make these custom chapter menus and sub-menus?
    Thanks Jim

    OK, I'm back. Here are my steps for creating Custom Menus with PS, En and PrPro:
    In PrPro, move the CTI (Current Time Indicator) to the desired Frame. Check Frames on either side, with the Program Monitor’s Magnification to 100%, or maybe even 200% (you’ll need to scroll, but get a really clear picture). You want the clearest Frame in that area. With AME, in CS4, you’ll want to Export that Frame as .TIFF, or .BMP. I use .TIFF for this.
    Now, for a caveat. When you Import this Exported Frame into Photoshop, be sure to check the specs., especially the PAR. You may have to use Image>PAR to adjust this to match your Project’s specs. Or, all might be perfect - just check this out.
    Now, at this point, I choose the Library Menu, Blank, so that everything is setup. One can create the Menu from scratch, but careful attention needs to be paid to the exact naming conventions. At the very least, unless you’ve done this dozens of times before, use that Blank Menu, or similar as a guide, so you get things done, as they must be done.
    Using that Blank Menu, just drag the Layer from your Exported Frame to your Menu image. It will appear above the black Background.
    Add, or manipulate your Button Layer Sets, as is required, keeping them together. Remember that Button #1 will be the Button Layer Set, that is lower down in the Layers Palette. This can play a roll with Button Routing, back in Encore. Lower Button Layer Sets will have lower Button numbers.
    Now, I always rename my Button Layer Sets, keeping the required characters - just changing the name. I also do all of my Button text in PS, and make sure to turn OFF Sync Button Names.
    When done, Save_As .PSD, and then Import_As_Menu into Encore. Note: if you start with the Blank Menu, you can choose Edit in Photoshop, and then when done in PS, you just need to Save, and it will update in Encore. This is a personal workflow choice. I do the Edit in Photoshop route, but it is not necessary. One just needs to Import the resulting .PSD into Encore with Import_As_Menu, so that Encore does all the things that it needs to and recognizes the .PSD as a Menu.
    When deciding what to base your Menu on, remember that you can "populate" your Menu with Buttons from the Functional Content. I’d suggest studying these Assets, and picking the ones that work best for you. You can still alter/edit those back in PS, so you just need to "get close."
    Pay special attention to the required naming conventions. You cannot deviate from those first characters in the Button Layer Sets. They MUST be followed.
    If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Pro CS6 - Project frame won't retain its layout or location between opening and closing?

    I filed this as a bug, but perhaps I'm thinking through this wrong and would like to seek help.
    I'm finding that the Project frame in Premiere Pro CS6 does not retain its layout between opening and closings.
    Here's what I do:
    1) Open a project.
    2) Create several bins and populate them with media. Expand the contents of a bin by clicking the disclosure triangle to the left of the folder.
    3) Undock the Project frame only.
    4) Close the Project frame with Command-W
    5) Use ****-1 to reopen the Project frame.
    Repeat steps 4 and 5. The result is that the Project frame does not remember which bin was open. Furstratingly, it also does not retain which bins were expanded or collapsed.
    And worst of all, it will also open in random areas of the screen. (The expected result is that it would reopen in the same spot of the desktop where you last closed it, no?)
    I'm a big organizer -- tons of footage across many different bins. I open bins, close them, keep some open, close others... easily dozens or hundreds of times during an edit session. I'm beginnging to feel like I'm swatting flies or playing whack-a-mole just to get my bin views correct!
    Or mm I approaching this wrong?

    But really, the real solution for me was to not update Premiere Pro CS6 after a reinstall. The most recent updates just do not like my computer, I guess.
    Figured I should post this solution here in case anyone in the future has this problem. (relevant: xkcd: Wisdom of the Ancients)

  • Importing EDL project frame rate is always 23.98

    Hi There,
    I'm importing a 24 frame EDL. All of the import settings are set to 24 fps. However on import, the project frame rate is always 23.98.
    I have added the number 24 to the defaulteframerate section of the preferences file, but no luck.
    Anyone found a solution to this?
    Thanks

    Just a wild guess since I don't normally work in 24 fps... all of us NTSC-biased types accept that 23.98 (more accurately, if not absolutely precisely expressed as 23.976) is the "pull-down" frame rate that results from a telecine transfer, and is the rate that is assumed, corresponding to 29.97 or 1000/1001.
    This framerate is emulated in a number of "Digital Cinema" electronic origin formats.
    Absolute 24.0000 fps is a bit rare in these parts and in reality probably would only come up if one were working with a dpx image sequence properly scanned, not telecined.
    Not saying that 24.000 does not exist -- I'd say that it is just as uncomfortable a fit in 25 fps-land as it is here! And Color / Final Touch has been notoriously bad with 25 fps.
    good luck and merry christmas....

  • Working alternating with iPhoto and FCE tgrying to import pictures from iPhoto into FCE suddenly all my 22300 pictures disappeared leaving empty frames. Does somebody know where the pictures could have gone and how can I get them back into iPhoto? Lothar

    Working alternating with iPhoto and FCE tgrying to import pictures from iPhoto into FCE suddenly all my 22300 pictures disappeared leaving empty frames. Does somebody know where the pictures could have gone and how can I get them back into iPhoto? Lothar

    The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

    CS6 cutout. Classic mode. I want to cut out by dragging. However, the selection is moving and moving the mouse click once. I'm having problems. Frame disappears in the "ctrl + H". Frame is off all the time. Happy.

    I don’t understand all you’ve written.
    As for the effect ctrl-H has you schould be able to change that under Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.

  • Any way to make AI import obey project frame rate?

    HI
    apologies if this has been asked before but the search facility does not seem to be after effects only focussed.
    I keep getting caught out by 1080P dimensioned AI files always being imported as 29.97 fps even though my import prefs and Project settings are 25 fps.
    Is there a way I can hack this into working
    (freelance at a place with version CS5 today)
    Tristan

    When you create a new comp it should follow the last composition that you created. IOW, create a new NTSC D1 Comp that's 30 seconds long and the next new comp you create will be the same.
    When you import an Illustrator or Photoshop file as a Composition the frame size, if it's a standard frame size, sets the frame rate of the composition. IOW, Import a PSD that 720 X 480 as a comp and it will come in as a DV comp with a frame rate of 29.97. Import a file as a comp that's pal frame size and it should come in as a PAL composition at 25 fps.
    I haven't looked but I suspect that this may be set somewhere deep in the preferences file. You can edit the prefs file with a text editor. Someone smarter than me may be able to tell you where the setting is, or you may be able to find it by doing a search of the prefs file.

  • Text disappears when graphics frame is placed on top of it.

    Hello,
    When I try to substitute a large cap in a text frame with a graphics frame in ID CS4, the text disappears.
    I have been able to do this successfully in the past, but not with this particular text frame.
    Please see screenshots.
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks for your consideration,
    cobaltgreen

    That can't be the whole story. The image you posted indicates that if text wrap is applied, the offset is 0 (if it was anything else it would show when the frame is selected, as it is in the screen shot).
    Normally you'd actually do this with text wrap and it would push the text to the right (and re-wrap the lines) in the first few lines when the image frame was put into position, but you've done something else we can't see to make that notch.

    is your problem
    which will appear like this
    Graphics g= frame.getGraphics();if you highlight the code, then click the 'code' button, above the editor area
    solution is to use a JPanel for your graphics, and override its paintComponent()
    JPanel p = new JPanel(){

        super.paintComponent(g);
        //other graphics stuff here

  • Single frame disappears when compressing with de-interlacing turned on

    I'm having trouble with a single frame - showing a lightning flash - disappearing after compression. I've found I need to turn on de-interlacing in the Inspector to avoid bad problems with the interlacing showing on edges when panning sidewards, but since I've turned de-interlacing on, this one frame disappears.
    I've tried making it a freeze-frame, held for several seconds. I've tried slowly zooming in on the same frame for several seconds. I've tried putting in compression markers all over it. In all cases, the lightning flash is there in Final Cut Pro, but disappears on compression.
    Any suggestions?

    I dont have the answer, but rather a similair problem. If you don't mind I will add it to your blog here so hopefully someone can answer both our problems with one solution.
    I have been compressing the same FCP sequence several times making only small changes to my sequence each time(adding and deleting certain photos per clients request). Now all of a sudden, one on the photos simply does not show up after being compressed. It renders just fine in FCP and exports to Compressor just fine, but after I compress it, when I play it, the two seconds of the sequence that is supposed to show a certain picture, it is just black.

    Go to System Preferences - Accessibility - Voiceover - turn off Voiceover. The shortcut is command-F5, so possibly you pressed that accidentally.

  • First and last frame disappearing off every clip

    Hi,
    Every clip I import in Final cut pro 6.0 loses its first and last frame.
    The clips I import are in photoJpeg / 24p (verified with the -get info- of Quicktime Pro), but once in FCP they are marked as 23.98 ?!?!
    In the browser the info of the clip says 23.98 and also indicates that the clip is 2 frames shorter.
    When opened in the viewer the first and last frames are really missing.
    It gets worse, when a clip is longer (ie: 500 frames), the first and last TWO frames are missing ?!?!
    Am I alone with this problem?
    Please help!!!

    How are these clips getting created? Quicktime does not necessarily associate each frame with a certain TC, and the frame rate is dynamically calculated, rather than simply being hard-coded into the QT metadata. This results in Quicktimes that get created outside of FCP often showing up with different frame rates than you expect.
    You might try exporting movies back out of FCP, ether from the master clips, or from sequences. I have noticed that when I export from a sequence at the correct frame rate, the missing frames come back. Other tools that might come in handy are Compressor for converting batches of files to QTs that FCP will like better, and Cinema Tools for conforming clips to a particular frame rate (like changing them from 24 to 23.98)
    You might also try Dumpster which is a bare-bones utility that will allow you to view and edit the QT metadata directly.
    Try some experiments and post back and let us know what you find out. I found that placing the clips in sequences at the proper frame rate and exporting new movie files worked well, but I have seen timing and frame rate shifts with some clips using this method...
    Hope this helps -

  • How do I resolve share frame errors (-1) with frames in which FCP seems to place a transition mark in the form of an L-shaped or reverse L-shaped figure?

    When I try to use Share to a master file, I get an error that states:  "The share operation Master File has failed.  The operation could not be completed because an error occurred when creating frame 158 (error -1)."  This has occurred with different frame numbers.  When I delete them, it might disappear for that frame, but then shows up later for others.  It seems that the problem is occuring right at the transition point between two clips.  FCP seems to be putting an L-shaped figure on the last frame of one clip and a reverse L-shaped figure on the first frame of the next clip.  The faulty frame seems to be one of those two frames.  The clips I am having trouble with were from an old, non-digital cameral.  We had converted them to DVDs and then I converted them to MPEG-4 files using Mac X DVD Ripper Pro.  The converter seems to work fine and I can play the converted movie with Quick Time.  Also, FCP will import the converted movie and works just fine with it as a clip and in the timeline.  But when I try to share, I keep getting these errors.  Short of deleting all of these old clips from the movie, which would be sad, how do I solve this problem?
    After looking at previous discusion threads I have already saved to a new project, deleted the clip and re-imported it, and eliminated the transition effect from between the clips.  But I still get the same errors.
    I also get an error when I try to share to DVD, but that error is a "0" error that doesn't mark the location of the problem.  I'm assuming it is the same problem as the one when I try to share to master file.
    One other weird thing is that in a slightly older version of the movie with the same clips, I was not able to share to DVD but it did share to a master file.  That almost seems like pure luck right now.
    Please help!

    MPEG-4 should not be used in FCP unless it is converted first or optimized in the application.
    Trash your preferences. Trash your project render files. Switch off background rendering. Do not re-render. Export your projects.
    Ignore the last frame and first frame indicators.

  • How do I loop back from the first frame to the last frame?

    Hi there,
    I'm currently working on the framework for a product viewer.
    I have:
    a movie clip called 'viewer_mc' which contains the images take from different angles of the product. The actionscript generates a script on the last frame of this that returns it to frame 1.
    a button instance called 'autoplay_btn' which plays through the movie clip from whatever the current frame is, and stops on frame 1.
    a left and right button which serve to move the movie clip frame, to give the appearance that the product is rotating.
    I have succeeded in getting it to:
    have the movie clip play through once, return to frame 1 and stop.
    have the buttons return functions when held down, that move the frame in the movie clip using nextFrame and prevFrame commands. The right button successfully loops round to frame 1 and continues functioning to give the appearance of continual rotation.
    The last problem I am experiencing is getting the left button to act in the corresponding manner, going from the first frame to the last and continuing to function.
    Here is my actionscript so far:
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    var lastFrame:Number = viewer_mc.totalFrames;
    var thisFrame:Number = viewer_mc.currentFrame;
    var backFrame:Number = viewer_mc.currentFrame-1;
    1. This is the part that gets it to play through once before returning to the first frame. I think perhaps the problem I am experiencing is because of the 'viewer_mc.addFrameScript(lastFrame-1, toStart)' part i.e. although I'm holding the left button, its returning to this script and therefor getting bounced back immediately to the first frame. However, there is no flicker on the screen which you might expect if this were the case
    Note - as this is a generic product viewer which I can use as a template I am using lastFrame etc. as opposed to typing the value in
    function toStart (){
              viewer_mc.gotoAndStop(1);
    viewer_mc.addFrameScript(lastFrame-1, toStart);
    2. This is the functionality for the autoplay_btn that will play through a rotation / return the viewer to the initial (frontal) view of the product (frame 1).
    autoplay_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, autoplay);
    function autoplay (ev:MouseEvent):void{
              var startFrame:Number = viewer_mc.currentFrame;
              viewer_mc.gotoAndPlay(startFrame);
    3. This is the functionality of the right button, which when held, moves the movie clip to the next frame via the 'rotateRight' function based on the 'nextFrame' command. It loops back round to the first frame due to the 'viewer_mc.addFrameScript(lastFrame-1, toStart)' script generated on the last frame of the movie clip, as is desired.
    right_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, rightDown);
    function rightDown(e:Event){
        stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,stoprightDown); //listen for mouse up on the stage, in case the finger/mouse moved off of the button accidentally when they release.
        addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,rotateRight); //while the mouse is down, run the tick function once every frame as per the project frame rate
    function stoprightDown(e:Event):void {
        removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,rotateRight);  //stop running the tick function every frame now that the mouse is up
        stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,stoprightDown); //remove the listener for mouse up
    function rotateRight(e:Event):void {
        viewer_mc.nextFrame();
    4. This is the functionality of the left button, which when held, moves the movie clip to the prev frame via the 'rotateRight' function based on the 'prevFrame' command. And this is where the problem lies, as although it works for getting the movieclip back to frame 1, it does not loop round to the last frame and continue functioning, as is wanted.
    left_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, leftDown);
    function leftDown(e:Event){
        stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,stopleftDown); //listen for mouse up on the stage, in case the finger/mouse moved off of the button accidentally when they release.
        addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,rotateLeft); //while the mouse is down, run the tick function once every frame as per the project frame rate
    function stopleftDown(e:Event):void {
        removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,rotateLeft);  //stop running the tick function every frame now that the mouse is up
        stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,stopleftDown); //remove the listener for mouse up
    I'd imagine it is probably my logic for this part that is really letting me down - I can do a similar function in actionscript 2, but am trying to learn actionscript 3 just to move with the times as it were, and struggling a bit. Still this is only a few days in!
    function rotateLeft(e:Event):void{
              if(thisFrame==1){
                        gotoAndStop(viewer_mc.totalFrames-1);
              } else{
              viewer_mc.prevFrame();
    Any help you can give me would be gratefully received. For an example of the effect I am trying to achieve with the autoplay button etc. I recommend:

    Here's the code without my comments / explanations:
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    import flash.events.Event;
    var lastFrame:Number = viewer_mc.totalFrames;
    var thisFrame:Number = viewer_mc.currentFrame;
    var backFrame:Number = viewer_mc.currentFrame-1;
    function toStart (){
              viewer_mc.gotoAndStop(1);
    viewer_mc.addFrameScript(lastFrame-1, toStart);
    //last image of viewer_mc = first image of viewer_mc
    autoplay_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, autoplay);
    function autoplay (ev:MouseEvent):void{
              var startFrame:Number = viewer_mc.currentFrame;
              viewer_mc.gotoAndPlay(startFrame);
    right_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, rightDown);
    function rightDown(e:Event){
        stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,stoprightDown); //listen for mouse up on the stage, in case the finger/mouse moved off of the button accidentally when they release.
        addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,rotateRight); //while the mouse is down, run the tick function once every frame as per the project frame rate
    function stoprightDown(e:Event):void {
        removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,rotateRight);  //stop running the tick function every frame now that the mouse is up
        stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,stoprightDown); //remove the listener for mouse up
    function rotateRight(e:Event):void {
        viewer_mc.nextFrame();
    left_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, leftDown);
    function leftDown(e:Event){
        stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,stopleftDown); //listen for mouse up on the stage, in case the finger/mouse moved off of the button accidentally when they release.
        addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,rotateLeft);//while the mouse is down, run the tick function once every frame as per the project frame rate
    function stopleftDown(e:Event):void {
        removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,rotateLeft);  //stop running the tick function every frame now that the mouse is up
        stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,stopleftDown); //remove the listener for mouse up
    function rotateLeft(e:Event):void{
              viewer_mc.prevFrame();
    The definition of the rotateLeft function is where the problem lies I think - I've taken out my poor attempts at doing the logic from the previous post. If I were to write it out long-hand the statement I want to write is: 'If you get to frame 1 and function rotateLeft is called go to the end of the movie clip'.
    The reason I have to use the viewer_mc.totalFrames-1 definition in the addFrameScript call is the addFrameScript function is 0 based i.e. if you want to call frame 1 of the movieclip you have to return a value of 0 in the addFrameScript (or such is my understanding of it anyway). As such, the last image in the movie clip will need to be the view obtained at 360 degree rotation, which is of course the same view as at 0 degree rotation. As a consequence, the last frame in the movie clip is superfluous for the user, but necessary for the overall effect to be achieved. And, in addition, to keep up the effect of a 360 degree view when the rotateLeft function is called it needs to skip that last frame to go to the lastFrame-1 (or totalframes-1), or in other words, the view of the image prior to completing the full 360 rotation.
    the variables thisFrame and lastFrame are defined at the very top of the script. Like you said they might need to be defined or called on again elsewhere.

  • Passing data from a panel to a frame / disposing of a frame from in a panel

    Hello, I have recently created a program where all windows are made of seperate frames, now, to make the whole thing a bit more appealing and professional looking, i'd like to make 1 main frame, and load my content panels into this 1 frame. Problem i'm having with this is passing data from the loaded in panel to the main frame, so the main frame can hide one panel to load another with data inserted in the first panel. OR another solution to my problem would be a way to dispose of a frame, but from within the seperate panel class. I have searched the www for a solution, but haven't found one so far, so, any suggestions or references to some info about this kind of issue? Any pointer is greatly appreciated

    EDIT: I took a look at the cardlayout, and, although i see its relevance to my question, it still leaves me with the question how exactly i will pass data the user inputs into the first panel, to the second panel. The second panel is built by the info which is provided in the first panel.Stop thinking of them as Panels and start thinking of them as OOP objects that have data that must be shared. It's often a matter of using getters and setters and sometimes requiring a sprinkling of the Observer design pattern.
