Still photos from a DVD

I am trying to capture and print still photos from commercial DVDs. Any suggestions of a mac compatible software that will do this. Hopefully one that doesn't cost a bizillion dollars.

  • Import photos from slideshow DVD.

I made a slideshow DVD and trashed the original photos.
I now want to change the soundtrack - how can I import still photos from the DVD or alter the soundrack please?

The only way I can think of to do that would be to rip the DVD onto your mac into a quicktime format, then - with Quicktime Pro - dub the new soundtrack on and then re-burn it to a DVD.
The problem is the DVD format is a "final" format, not designed for re-editing.

  • Still Photos from DVD?

I apologize if I'm not posting this in the right forum, I wasn't sure where to ask -
I have a DVD (home video put onto to DVD, nothing copyright), I know how to make a copy of it on the Mac and how to burn copies of other DVD's, etc., but I am wondering if it's possible to pull still photo's from the DVD/movie?
When I copied the DVD onto my Mac, I get a file with several sub-folders in it - VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS, etc., I haven't been able to import anything into iMovie - it quits part-way through.
Is there anyway to put the movie/video into an application that will then let me pull out or copy still photos from it?
Hopefully that made sense, not sure if I'm correctly explaining what I'd like to do...
    Thanks!

You can capture stills from a digital movie through use of
a third-party shareware such as Snapz Pro X; perhaps a
few others, too. Some may offer a demo limited use feature
to see what it could do.
    • Snapz Pro X - Ambrosia Software:

I'm not certain what GraphicConverter from LemkeSoft can do.
This also is a third-party shareware; it can work in demo mode.
    • GraphicConverter:

    Been some time since I last used products from either source;
so you may find something (or not) of use to you there.
For just an occasional grab or screenshot of a frame from a
digital video, you could try pausing the movie and using the
standard keyboard keys to create a snapshot of that image
and save it to the desktop. That would be sort of clumsy but
it may do for a few images out of your own digital video files.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How can I make a still photo from imovie

How can I make a still photo from imovie?

Let's assume you have iMovie 11 (Version 9). (If you have a different version, let me know. The instructions will be different.)
First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.
I have created a short video Tutorial on how to do this. There is one error in the Tutorial, where it says that Command-click is the same as right-click. I should have said Control-click instead.

  • Is there any way to import the photos from a DVD slideshow I made in 2007?

is there any way to import the photos from a DVD slideshow I made in 2007? they are set to music and there are quite a few photos on the slideshow. I didn't back up the photos on a separate DVD/CD so the photos are all there but i don't know how to import them from a musical slideshow. Help!

Unless you opted to add the source image files to the DVD's ROM  Contents the answer is no.

  • How do I create a still photo from a video in the new iMovie?

How do I creat a still photo from a video in the new iMovie?

I'll assume you want to create a still to use outside FCPX, not a still frame within FCPX.  It's kinda hidden in the "share."  Go File/Share/Add Destination.  You want "Save Current Frame."  After you've created that destination, it'll be there for you in the future under Share.

You do not - use iMovie or an external editor that has this capability - I believe QuickTime Pro does

  • Can opening shot be a long, delayed, fade of a still photo from blur to clear?

I'd like to have the first clip of an iMovie be a long, delayed fade of a still photo from blur to clear. Using the blur transition is not working; it can't be made long enough. Any ideas?
I'd like it so that the fade from blur lasts around 18 seconds, and the photo is clear for about 4 seconds...
I should also say I'm using the latest version of iMovie... just bought the computer a few months ago.
    Many thanks for any suggestions!

Further to Karsten's explanation, a workaround is to create a project using your photo with a duration of 36 seconds (or more). Insert the 18 second transition. Then export the project and re-import the exported file to an Event. Now create a new project from that Event. In that new project, trim off the unrequired section from the end of the clip, so that all that remains is the transition plus the extra 4 seconds.
For best results, when exporting the 36 second clip (or whatever length), choose Share>Export using QuickTime. For the Export setting (on the pop-up menu) choose Movie to QuickTime Movie. For "Options>Video>Settings>Compression Type" choose Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC). Leave other settings as they are. This will give you a full quality movie file (.mov) in the AIC format, which is iMovie's preferred editing format.

  • Can you make a still photo from clip

How do I take a frame from imovie and make a still photo from it.
    Thanks

AppleMan1958's Tip, as referred to by Matt, works fine for iMovie '09, but if you have iMovie '11 you will need to use a different procedure.
Unlike all earlier versions of iMovie, the latest version (IMovie '11 - 9.0.2) does not provide for the creation of stills from video for use outside the program. Certainly, you can create freeze frames in the project and add stills from the Events - but these are only available within the project.
The best solution is to use MPEG Streamclip - available from the developer (Squared 5) here:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
In the Project or Event, right-click (or control-click) on the clip from which you wish to extract the still. From the pop-up menu select Reveal in Finder. Drag the clip to MPEG Streamclip. Move the playhead to the desired frame. Now, from the menu, select File>Export Frame. The following window will appear:
Choose your preferred Format (JPEG, TIFF or PNG) and other options if desired, then Save. The saved file can now be used in iPhoto or any image editing application, or printed as required.

  • Still photo from movie

I have been trying to figure out how to get a still photo from a movie clip. Is there anyway to take a still from the imovie video? I thought I could just drag and drop it on desktop but that isn't allowed. Any advice if this can be done. I do not want to use the still in part of the movie, I just want a still from the movie to use as a picture I can print out. Thanks for help.

This is easily done. Do a search of this discussion and you will find numerous posts on how to do it.

  • How do I create still photos from a video in iMovie?

I am looking to create a still photo from my video.  Is this possible?  Thanks for any help you can give..

If you want to create a still frame from within iMovie, move your playhead to the frame you want a still image from and ctrl-click. You'll get a slightly different option to create a still frame depending on whether you do this in the project or event window.
From the event window iMovie will add a still at the end of your project, from the project window it will add a still at the playhead.
If you wanted the still on your desktop rather than in iMovie, select the still, ctrl click and choose reveal in finder, copy the image to your desktop and undo your actions in iMovie to remove the still from the project.

  • How do I capture a still photo from my video footage??

Probably easy I know, but just wondering how to capture a still photo from my video footage. I pulled a particular clip into my viewer window and have found the still shot I want, what next??
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Cheers,

Put the playhead over the frame in the timeline and choose Modify>Make Freeze Frame. It will appear in the Viewer window. Drag it into the timeline.
If you want a photo for iPhoto etc. put the playhead over the frame and select File>Export>Using QuickTime Conversion.
In the window that opens change the "Format" setting to Still Image from the dropdown menu.

  • Create still photo from video

iphoto 08, imovie 08. I have imported video from camera into both programs but can't find any options to choose a clip and convert it to jpg or something to create a still photo from the video. Is this possible?

Stop the video at the desired point, press the Shift, Command, and 4 keys, drag the cursor so that the whole picture is highlighted, let go of the button, and open the PNG on the desktop.
