STOPWATCH WIDGET FOR CAPTIVATE 4

Can anyone tell me how to create a stopwatch or timer widget for Captivate 4?

You don't really have to construct a widget to do that. There are two easy ways to achieve this.
1. Make a textbox and use the $$cpInfoElapsedTimeMS$$ Captivate system variable to show the elapsed time since the project was started. It displays the time in miliseconds,  but you could just make a rectangle in the same color as your background color and then cover up the miliseconds part of the text box. That way only the seconds will show. Remember to right-align the text in your text box.
2. Provided that you have Flash and can use it you could make a simple flash file which reads the cpInfoElapsedTimeMS variable from Captivate - strips away the miliseconds and display the result in a dynamic text box.

  • Google Maps widget for Captivate 4

    Hi people,
I am planning to create a google maps widget for captivate 4. Something like it will load a map of the location(longitude, latitude) set by the project author in the published SWF at runtime.
If you like the idea, then please give your suggestions and options which you would like to see in the widget. Then what kind of controls you want to have in the widget.

    Hey there,
Take a look at this web address

  • How to get more features for Captivate 6

    Hi all,
I've installed Captivate 6 on my laptop at work, I use it for creating training material for our project management system. I was just looking at some Adobe video tutorial and there are some features shown in the videos that I can't find on my captivate (for example Drag and Drop interaction, some particular widget like "Hangman" etc...). I tried to download them, clicking on the "Download more interactions" but there are any available. So, is there a way to get those features, at least those shown in your video tutorial for Captivate 6?
    Thank you very much
    Elena

    Hello,
    thank you for your answer.
I have the version 6.0, so maybe I can't get those features because of the version that I have.
Even if I click on "Download more" on the Interactions window, there are no Interactions available, but is it a problem related to my version or it's because there aren't available new features?
    Thank you very much,

    Hello and welcome,
I cannot remember for the Hangman interaction anymore, but Drag&Drop was only available for subscription users, for version 6.1.0.3190 Maybe it was not clear in the video you are pointing at, that not all features were available for box licenses. Which version do you have?

  • Widgets in Captivate 3 - keypressing

    Hi guys,
We at the office are currently using Captivate 3 (I don't think the management here with purchase a licence for version 4)
I am producing a bit of e-learning where you get to a slide (btw: this is a simulation of a software system that we have
developed in our firm) AND then you have to press the "c" to get to the next screen as opposed to clicking an invisible
    button etc.
Obviously I think we need a WIDGET here but how exactly do you produce a widget in captivate 3?
If such a widget already exists where you can get to another screen by pressing the "c" button on your keyboard.
If anyone know of a link to an online tutorial then please get in touch.
    Thanks in advance.
    Keith

    Hello
Widgets were introduced with CP4, so do not think this would resolve your problem.
Do not have CP3 installed any more, so couldn't check what I'm now proposing, but if I remember well this was als possible in CP3. To a button or a click box you can assign a shortcut key, that can be used instead of clicking on the button or the CB. Normally you can see this in the properties of the button/CB. If that is indeed also the case in CP3 your problem could be solved this easy way: assign 'c' as shortcut key and insert the CB or the transparent button without text on the slide.
Hope my memory is all right?

  • Widgets in captivate 7

Are the widgets in captivate 7 HTML 5 compliant, are all or just some of the widgets HTML 5 compliant, if just some are compliant how can I tell which ones are compliant and which ones aren't

    Hello,
It is a bit confusing. If you insert an Interaction (using the Menu), normally they should be HTML5 compliant, but there was one game that seemed not to be functional for HTML5 output (think it is Jeopardy, but not totally sure). Whereas the Widgets that are stored in a different place and that you'll access with the Widgets workspace, are not HTML5 compliant. Most external widgets are not compliant with a couple of exceptions by Jim Leichliter (like the Google Data LMS widget). And be sure to insert the correct "widget" because some interactions look exactly like their widget (read SWF) counterpart: Timer, dropdown, radiobuttons, checkboxes... Some have different names but look pretty much the same: TextArea (widget, not compliant) and Scrolling Text (compliant).

  • Is there any way to create time-sensitive deactivation of an .exe for Captivate 4?

    Hey there,
I've long-distance customers that want to preview the eLearning content before they accept anything; however, the company doesn't want any these files floating around.  I'm looking to restrict access to the file after a certain amount of time, or disappear the file entirely.  I'm guessing Captivate 4 doesn't have this feature, but any suggestions for freeware or a cheap alternative?  If not, is there an easy work-around so that customers can preview content before accepting?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel
Captivate 4 does offer the ability to configure an expiration after a certain date. However, it's easily defeated by simply adjusting the date on the PC.
I suppose you might find a widget that would work. You might try Michael Lund's site: http://www.cpguru.com
Perhaps Michael can create a special widget for you!

  • Is there a widget for Volume Control for HTML5 projects

Is there a Volume Control widget for HTML5 projects in Captivate 8? How does articulate do it?
Is there a 3rd party Volume Control widget?

    Hi there
"Adobe Captivate will need to change to complete."
I'm assuming here you meant to type "compete". But that's the nature of any upgrade, no? I'm sure that Captivate will change.
For what it's worth, I was toying with creating a simple audio player. Captivate does offer a way to increase the volume and decrease the volume using Advanced Actions. It works for SWF output. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work when Captivate produces HTML 5. I didn't test with Responsive output.

  • Bit rate standards for Compressing video for Captivate

I have been trying to decide whether rto use constant bit rate or a variable bit rate when compressing my video to embed in Captivate.
I have been told by Connect support that a constant bit rate is better for deploying video in Presenter but I am wondering if anyone has information as whether that is also true for Captivate. We are using captive as a means to offer a series of video question and answer sequence for a client of ours, and I  am interested in  getting the best quality with the smoothest performance in a progressive download flv format
For a simple talking head I am tempted to use a variable bit rate but, I cannot find anything in the seaces I have made that talk about the spec or any pros an cons to that quetsion for Captivate.
Doee anyone have any expereince with that?

I have always used constant bitrate for videos imported into Captivate and that has worked fine. However, I never tried using variable bit rate so I don't know if it will work better or worse.
My guess is that it would be better to go with constant bitrate though because Captivate do have some funny issues with FLV's sometimes and it's probably better not to "stress" captivate ;o)

  • Can Anyone Create a Print Widget fo Captivate 4

I am still unable to print a single slide in Captivate 4 I loaded the slides printer widget that cames with Captivate 4 in to Flash 8 in the hope I could edit it and just have the print option, without all the extras but don't know enough to make it work.  Is anyone out there able to create a printer widget for Cap4.
I am dunfounded that there is no option to print a slide.  I have now started creating e-learning using courselab because it's so easy to print a slide in.
    Can anyone help!

  • Countdown timer for Captivate 5

Hey! I'm trying to find two types of countdown timers. One that would display during a slide and the other that can span a few slides (i.e. you have 5 minutes to do the questions on these 3 slides). Anyone know of any widgets like this? I saw the following timer, but it seems to be for Captivate 4 - http://forums.adobe.com/click.jspa?searchID=5036774&objectType=2&objectID=2505616
I guess for the first timer, I could simply have the user look at the countdown timer at the bottom of the screen....
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hello,
I'm preparing a blog post on the default widgets that come with CP5, but lack of time... Hope to make it this week.
Anyway there is an interesting widget 'Timer' included. You can set a maximum, let it count up or count down, put it in analog or digital mode etc.
If you put the widget on a master slide the counter will restart for each slide. If you put it on a slide and set it to display for the rest of the project, it will continue timing. As you can hide any object on a later slide using an action or an advanced action, this is the way to go if you want a timer for a sequence of slides. I blogged about Hiding objects, here is the link:
    Playing Hide-and-Seek
You can also create a custom timer by using the system variable cpInfoElapsedTimeMS. Tried to explain that workflow in another blog post (was for a Quiz, but is also possible for any other slide):

  • How do i remove the authorized signature from a certificate widget on captivate 8?

Does anyone know how to remove the authorized signature from a certificate widget on captivate 8?
    or
How to build my own widget to include quiz results/score and print widget?

Strange workaround, but just checked it and it works (even for responsive project): you can drag the Signature, I dragged it as far out as possible (to the bottom) and when previewing the Certificate it was gone.
Do you need a widget? It is not that easy if you need it both for SWF and HTML output because I'm aware at this moment of only very few widgets available on the market. You can create a slide with all you need, using the quizzing system variables and a button with a JS to print?

  • How to create a Flash Wrapper for Captivate 5.5

I just run into the following articule, "Developing a Flash Wrapper for Adobe Captivate " The author told that it is based on Action Script 2.0. Is there any information available creating the wrapper using Action Script 3.0? Where can I find the information related to this topic?
    http://www.connectusers.com/tutorials/2009/02/certificates/index.php

That article was, of course, written outside of Adobe... I don't know of any Adobe-specific resources to help develop such a 'wrapper'... But there may be other third-party options.
The link you point to discusses doing this for sake of a certificate. Is that what you need? There are 'widgets' available for Captivate that may satisfy your need...
Or here's an article discussing development of such a widget, which may apply to what you're looking for:

  • What is the minimum browser requirements for Captivate 5? (Specifically Flash and Java)

I create a Captivate from and upload it to our LMS. When employees access the course it takes a long time for it to load. My IT department is asking what is the minimum browser requirements for Captivate 5? Specifically Flash and Java. This is occuring on PC's and a Citrix environment.

    Hi there,
Thanks for reaching Adobe Community. Please accept my apologies for the same.
There is nothing in specific. When you say it takes a long time, do you mean on the LMS or locally as well?
    Try updaing the Flash Player.
You can download the Falsh Player Versions from the below link:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
    Which browser you are using?
Also what objects you have in your project?
Does it have widgets or heavier graphics?
Also are you using any particular preloader? Have you tried using the default.swf preloader?
    Thanks!

  • Annoucement: New Menu Wizard for Captivate

I'd like to announce our latest product release - the
    Menu Wizard for Adobe Captivate
    The
Menu Wizard is a 3rd-party software product that integrates
directly into published Adobe Captivate movies. The
Menu Wizard is a Flash movie that provides a dynamic menu -
a series of buttons that navigates to slides you specify within
your published Adobe Captivate movies. This is a frequently
requested feature for Captivate - and is often discussed here in
    the Forums.
    The
Menu Wizard uses a .XML file read the menu content and
settings. You can configure many options, including the number of
menu buttons, button text, background colors (up/over), font, font
size, font color (up/over), border width and color, drop shadow,
button size (height, width), location, horizontal/vertical layout,
transparency, and menu header options. The product is distributed
as an InstallShield release (setup.exe), with all the necessary
files, an example movie and menu, and a 19 page Instruction Guide

Dirk, the Menu Wizard does not have a feature to
restrict users from going to various sections (slides) until
they have visited other sections (slides).
However, you might be able to accomplish this by 1) using
some creative branching or 2) breaking your project up into
separate movies - 1 for each section. At the end of section 1 -
there is a Click Box or Button that will launch section 2. In this
case, the Menu Wizard would be used for navigation within 1 movie
    (section) at a time.
