Storing and Converting Movies

Hi All.
I have probably thirty office related movies/slideshows that have been scattered on my hard drive since converting to mac and I am now in the process of gathering them all up and putting them into one folder. I am also relatively new to Aperture.
Can anyone give me advice as to whether I should convert any of these to one or another format and whether importing them to Aperture is simply a question of running an Import and then navigating to the folder?
I assume I am going to keep all of them in Aperture in one folder and I am also interested in understanding how I handle new movies or slideshows moving forward. My assumption is that some of these may be created in Keynote or other software in addition to Aperture.
Thanks for any advice on this.

Although there sometimes are problems with certain video files Bridge is the correct application to start for organizing your files. You can use the filter panel to only show certain file types, you can rename, rate and label the files, etc etc.
Some video files should be able to play in the preview window. It pays multiple pages PDF also in the preview window although there can be problems with PDF from InDesign showing all content.
You can use the folder panel for easy drag and drop files in different folders.
Anyway, before experimenting make sure to have a proper back up of your files and then start playing around freely to learn more about Bridge.

consider usage of a diff. editor.. iMovieHD6, you're entitled for a free downlaod at apple.com:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
but IF you're relaxed, opened your mind, follow the bright light, ommmm.. for Events & Stuff:
your intended workflow will add another step of quality-degradition (8mm>>avi>>mp4>>iM08) ..
consider the free tool Mpeg Streamclip www.squared5.com for 'chopping' that 90min beast into pieces..
rename these new chunks, follow advice given on my site:

    there's the manual..

  • Storing and converting videos and slideshows (Mac OS)

    hi all, new user here.
i have a host of files with some coming from my PC days and am currently using Aperture to store and create m4v and mov files.
right now i have AVI, mpg, mp4, PDF etcetera etcetera that i am trying to organize. when i doubleclick on some of these files they open in AME and i am guessing this means that i need to associate the file type with some other software or if i should convert them to a more convenient format such as mov or m4v which Aperture recognizes. so right now these files are just sitting in a file folder in various formats since Aperture does not appear very good at recognizing some of these video formats.
i would like to /store/ this data in a database or in software that will allow me to get it all organized and i am wondering if Bridge is a good place to do this or if user recommend LR or if there is in fact an adobe product to get this data organized.
i think ideally i would put all images and slideshows and videos in one place but i am guessing this means i would have to convert my videos to some file format (say mov or m4v for Aperture) so i am also wondering if this is a good way to go and if Adobe Media Encoder is the proper tool for this.
any sage advice is really welcome.
P.S. i also have PDF and EPS which both don't seem to play nice with aperture.

  • Storing and streaming movie content from desktop to ATV

Newb questions: 1) If I purchase and store a bunch of movies in iTunes on my desktop computer, I can set these movies not to sync to my ATV or my iPod, right? [I don't particularly want to fill up the hard drive on my 40GB ATV with movies, but I really do not want to fill my 16GB Touch so full of movies that I have no room for adding songs.] 2) What if I run out of hard drive space on the desktop system? Can I add an external USB hard drive to the desktop system just for storage of movies and still stream movies from iTunes to my ATV? [And if so, how?]
    Thanks. -- JC

You don't have to sync anything to the ATV if you don't want to. However, you must leave iTunes open on that machine if you want the ATV to see it to be able to stream.
You may find that setting it to sync only like 5 most recent unwatched movies, etc. The Unwatched option is nice as it limits what gets put on the ATV and once you watch it, it gets removed (though you can still play via streaming).
Thus if the computer is off or iTunes closed, your ATV will have the most recent stuff on it (which most likely is what you want to watch).
As for external drive, easy to do. I have a 1TB external USB drive on my computer. I have iTunes pointing to it as to where the library is stored (you can set that in iTunes preferences). Thus all my media is on my external drive.
Don't think of the ATV seeing your hard drives. The ATV ONLY sees your iTunes app. What your iTunes can see on your computer is what the ATV can see. So where ever you put the files, as long as iTunes can see it and play it, then the ATV can.

  • Cropping and converting movies

    Hi:
I have medical ultrasound images that come as AVI files.
Most importantly, Id like to be able to crop them to remove all patient identifying information, ie leaving just the image but none of the text.
Also, I'd like to convert these to both .mov files and .wmv files (for when I have to give talks at meetings that force one to use a PC).
These are pretty low-resolution images. Thus, what is the best (ideally cheap and easy to learn) software anyone would recommend to perform these tasks?
    Thank you!

Movie played in Osirix and QT just fine, so it's weird that MPEG Streamclip just showed it as white. However, I ran the avi movie thru handbrake, converting it to .m4v format, then I put that movie into MPEG Streamclip, and then all worked hunky dory. A bit convoluted, but it works, so that's good enough for me. Ciao.

  • My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created with a older mac os x (lion) and converted them to import into fce. after doing this as well as putting clips on the fce timeline when playing back t.h

My current os x is 10.9.5, using final cut express vers. 4.0.1.  I have imported .mov clips created on a older mac os x (lion) and when I wanted to import them into fce, a quicktime conversion window opened up and converted them (I haven't experienced this in the past). I then imported the converted quicktime clips into my fce project.  After doing this I took selected clips and put those edited clips on the fce timeline.  When playing the video back in the fce timeline,I noticed
    1) the video wasn't playing back smoothly like the original content
    2) when looking at the timecode reading of the timeline, the timecode was sputtering as well as the video and audio.  I exported to quicktime just to see if that was consistent, it was.
When I play the converted quicktime content independently of fce,  it plays normally (no sputtering of timecode, video and audio.  Need help to resolve the sputtering playback of converted video content in the fce timeline.  I've never experienced this before.  Any suggestions?

When you say you converted the clips before importing them into FCE, did you convert to AIC or DV and do the converted clips match your FCE Sequence settings exactly?  If not, go back and convert the original files again, using the intended Sequence settings as a guide.

  • Can't find geometry tab on Compressor 4.1.3 and need to convert mov file to 800x600 res

I just bought Compressor 4.1.3. because I was told it's the only way to convert movies exported from finalcutprox to custom resolution. I need 800x600 and I looked up a tutorial that says the custom res option is in the "geometry tab".  However, that was for an earlier version and I cannot find that tab on this latest version. Can somebody please tell me how to convert files to custom res in Compressor 4.1.3.? It's very important, and I paid 50 dollars just to do it. I'd appreciate any advice people have.
    Thanks so much!

Perhaps it would be best if you could post a screen shot of your original video.  For example, open it in QT Player and hit command i. Take a screen shot of the image and the movie inspector.
All of the functions and their adjustments that used to be grouped in Geometry in previous versions of Compressor are now located in the integrated video pane of the Inspector.

  • How do I convert .m4v to Apple Quick-Time 5, 6, and 7 (.mov, .qt)

how do I convert .m4v to Apple Quick-Time 5, 6, and 7 (.mov, .qt)??  Thanks!

I once had a problem with a media player not handling .m4v files correctly. Simply changing the extension to .mov fixed the problem. Just delete the "4" and replace it with an "o". Ignore the warning that may appear regarding changing the file type - in fact it's preferable that you make a copy of the .m4v file beforehand.
There's no guarantee that this will help with your particular issue, but worth a try!

  • Converting movies and moving to iPhone

    Hello,
I recently downloaded some free travel movies from iTunes. They were HD quality, but only less than 3 minutes long each.
Yesterday I selected 5 of them and, in iTunes, went to the menu > Advanced > Create iPod or iPhone Version. It took a long time, I let them convert overnight.
This morning, after they were finished, I tried dragging them onto my iPhone, but they wouldn't copy over. What am I doing wrong?
(Specifics: The original size of the movies as they appear in my Podcast list on my hard drive are 1280 x 720 and 89 mgs each. The new/converted movies that appear in my Movies list are 640 by 360 and 39.4 mg. I try dragging the new/converted movies onto my iPhone and they will not copy over.)
I am on an iMac with the latest OS, latest version of iTunes and latest software for my iPhone. Thank you.

Hi Ricciolo,  I MAY be able to help out here. I found a program "Any Video Converter" that I have been using since I got iPhone 3G. This link should take you to it http://www.any-video-converter.com/any-video-converter-free.exe
Yes this is a Free Version and works fine for me see no reason to pay for something here. Let me know if this one works for you or you found something better. I like free as I have been paying for decades. Buon Giorno

  • Importing Mov. Files and Converting to Prores

Hello everyone. I just purchased the Canon 5D Mark 3. I'm new to DSLR's. I'm not sure how to import and convert my footage to Apple's Prores files. I'm curious if there is a thread that will explain the process to import and convert the footage. To put things in perspective my last camera was a mini dv. Sony FX1. So I have been importing footage via firewire for a while now. Kinda lost since the world of Video has changed. Thanks for any and all help, advice, links and otherwise.
    Jeffery

This is the typical tapeless workflow for FCP...including Canon 5D.  But, not sure it works for the Mark III...worth a shot:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhDnyWFAM10
If that won't do it...then use Compressor to convert to ProRes.  Or MPEG STREAMCLIP...or 5DtoRGB (that one takes a long time)
