Strange audi sync problem & different, stranger video sync issu in sequence

I have two strange occurances with one particular set of media that was downloaded from the same original source mini-dv (recording in dvcam) tape. I have not found the same issue on any other footage.
1) when the media is imported into FCP, the audio is out of sync. it is slightly out at the beginning and then gets progressively worse.
2) when this footage is used in a sequence, the video that show in the sequence is not the same as the video that is exported when this sequence is exported as QT movie (or any other export option) Like the audio the video out of sync gets progressively worse.
- The original media is perfectly in sync looking at the digitized source ie: in Quicktime. There is no audio out of sync problem.
- the only difference I could see in the file was that this media is 3.5mb data rate whereas all the others are 3.6mb.
- other tapes from the same camera do not have a problem
- I do all my downloading from a firewire deck and not from the camera
- I upgraded from 6.0.1 to 6.0.4 (as did the QT 7.5 upgrade also) to see if that fixed the problem but to no avail.
Very perplexing. I managed to work around this problem in a sequence whos deadline was looming by manually slipping the footage in the sequence the required number of frames. This is where it also gets odd. I was able to do this by
- double click the clip in the sequence which then loaded that into the viewer.
- position the playhead at the beginning of the clip
- from the canvas select the go to position in master clip option which then loaded the masterclip into the viewer. the position in the masterclip was always the correct frame (ie the frame I expected to see as per my edit). The frame showing in the canvas was also the correct frame (but this would not be the case when exported)
- the next thing i did was to use the slip tool, as soon as i held the slip tool over the sequence clip, the frame in the canvas would be the wrong frame (the frame i would see when I exported).
- then i would just carefully slip the sequence clip back to the matching correct frame. So watching in the viewer, I would align the frame that showed in the viewer to the frame in the canvas.
When done the frame showing in my sequence would be a completely different frame but when exported, the frame that I expected to see would be the exported frame.
I could find no logic to the amount I needed to slip each time (I am sure there is logic but I couldnt figure out what that was). the clip at the end of the footage needed to be slipped -10:09, and this got progressively smaller to the clip at the beginning of footage needing to be slipped -:16
Hopefully that wasnt too confusing.

btw, i have tried recapturing the footage and i have offlined it, copied it to another location and onlined it in the new location to no avail. still have the sync and video in sequence issues.

  • Strange Video Resolution Issue

Ok, here's the problem: I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my 42" plasma TV via a DVI/HDMI converter. Everything works fine, except that, when I'm viewing video content *during download* (movies, TV) from the iTunes store, if I try to display in *full screen mode* I get a big black screen with a little, tiny video window in the middle (other, non-full screen modes work fine, but I want full screen so that the background is blacked out, etc.) Once the download is complete, I can view everything just fine in full screen mode, or in Front Row. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and if there's anything to do about it? I'm perplexed, and my wife is not amused.

    What Sony deck?
You might not have a PLAY THRU option selected on the deck. I know the DSR will do this if you mash remote control buttons.
The reason it works when capture is that the deck is sending OUT to composite/component directly. When you watch from FCP it is converting the digital signal from FW to an analog-ish signal back out the composite/component plugs. Apples and Oranges. BUT - should be a simple menu option.
    Good luck,

  • HELP!  Strange sync issue

This is by far the strangest problem I have come upon and
can't find anything in any forum discussing it. My site is
www.aloversscent.com. We are trying to put up 4 videos. I am
editing in FCP and compressing in Compressor to H.264 and then
making the files flv files to bring directly into Flash. All of
them are working fine except for our third episode, Operation Fox
Hunt. The audio sync is going off when the title cards come up,
about a 1/3 of the way through the video and only then. I went back
and made new exports where I tried filling in the blank audio
pieces under the cards with Slugs, I tried creating the title in
LiveType and then transfering it over instead of using the FCP
title cards. But neither worked. The strange thing is they work
fine when I play them in Quicktime. It's only when they play in
Flash that they get out of sync. If you scrub through the timeline
they will sometimes match back up again but while playing they
always get out of sync. I have run out of answers and need help
bad. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Naw, just tell us what your sequence settings are and what your original codecs are or were. It's easy to transcode or to shoot incompatible or wrong audio sampling rates.
Clip: HDV 1080i60, 1440x1080, Upper field first; Linear PCM 24-bit 44.1khz
Sequence setting: all standard easy setup for HDV 1080i60
The difference between 2 and 20 percent is a complete order of magnitude and that kind of discrepancy sends us to totally divergent debugging paths and wildly silly suggested workarounds.
You are right. My initial wrong judgement was based on which selection I thought I was seeing at the time.
If you convert, as Christina suggests, you may still need to alter the speed of your audio track to match the length of the video.
The audio is not the only problem. Even with no audio (just a video track extracted by QT or MpegStreamclip and saved as a self-contained movie) the video stops short; i.e. by minute 10 of a 10' clip material from earlier is still playing, and the rest is missing. All other apps see the video just fine.
I already tried converting the audio to the proper rate in QT and recombining the two. But again, this problem with the video is there with the audio stripped as well.
Oh, and also: the problem is there in the viewer as well, before adding it to the timeline.

  • Strange sync issue

Hi all. I'd appreciate some help.
I am capturing live in Quicktime from two sources: a remote Canon HV40 (firewire) and our recording studio CD burner (optical digital). This seemed to work fine at first, although I had to resync the audio and video, since the firewire has about 18 frames of latency. It was no problem to do that in FCP.
Here is the problem: I had to switch which CD burner I capture from, and it outputs a 24-bit 16 khz stream. The captured QT movie plays just fine by itself. If I drop that QT movie into FCP, the video seems to run too slowly, and is not complete. If this were a 30 minute movie, it would appear to be 30 minutes in FCP, and the audio would play normally, but the video would only get to 24 minutes or so. The rest is just missing. Of course, this means that the audio and video start out 18 frames out of sync (due to the latency) but gets to be minutes out of sync by the end.
If I transcode to something like Prores, the resulting movie works fine in FCP. But I would like to avoid that step, and just use the captured HDV movie file.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Audio and Video syncing issues

I have a video file where the audio and video file are normal when I play the clip in Quicktime. When I import the file into an FCP project and drag it into the timeline, the audio and video are no longer synced. My sequence setting is ProRes422 as is my video clip. The only difference I can see is that my clip is 24 bit integer and the sequence is 32 bit floating point. Although, this is my 50th project capturing old BetacamSP tapes and all my projects say this and I haven't had a problem until this particular file and not afterwards. Any thoughts?

There you go then ... make sure you monitor audio and video by the same path ie both via the Kona card or both on the Mac ... or use the Playback Offset to compensate for the delay between the Canvas window and the Kona output.
    From the manual:
To set the frame offset between the computer display and the external video and audio outputs
Choose Final Cut Pro > System Settings.
    Click the Playback Control tab.
Enter a number of frames in the Frame Offset number field.
Frame offset can be any whole number between 0 and 30. The default value is 4. For example, if a video monitor connected to your DV camcorder shows your program four frames later than your computer display, a frame offset of 4 will synchronize the two.
Note: Depending on your external monitor configuration, you may need to experiment with frame offset values to synchronize the external monitor and the computer display.
    Click OK.
Play your video in the Canvas or Viewer and compare the video offset between your external monitor and your computer display.
If the computer display and external monitor are still not synchronized, repeat steps 1 through 5 using different frame offset values until the display and monitor are in sync.

  • DMP-4310G Multicast video out of sync issues

    Hi!
Currently I have following problem with DMS:
I have couple of DMPs connected to the same L2 switch with the identical configuration (same startup url, same buffers config etc.) and a multicast streaming server which streams (by UDP multicast) some live video to the DMPs.
Video codec is h264 (1920p,high [email protected], bw 6000kbps,29,97fps).
The problem is that after some time (6-15 hours) the video on the screens become out of sync (i.e. screens show the same video but with some delay (1 to 5 sec) between the same frames on 2 different screens for example).
    DMM and DMPs - 5.2.2.
Can you advise me on that problem?

    Hi again
I actually think my problems is very much similar to this one:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2598909#2598909
Could it be related to H.264 and mainconecpt not doing things right?
When I try export the excact same project using Windows Media HDTV 720 - jsut setting the FPS to 50 instead of 25 it comes out nice. Looks a bit more blured to me, but might just adjust some parameters to get it right?
So i guess this issues with some periodic and ad hoc sync-issues is related to the H.264 mainconcept codec? Is there any other and better codecs for H.264 and how do one get them installed to use them inside PPro CS4?

  • Myriad iTunes sync issues - song cutoffs - artwork problems - yeech!

    Hi all,
I’m running the latest version of iTunes on a (late 2013) Macbook Pro Retina laptop, and having several different flavors of syncing issues with my two devices –  a 16 gb iPhone 4S running iOS 7.1, and a 32 gb iPod Touch 3rd Gen running iOS 5.1.1.
As best I can tell, some syncing issues such as one of the ones I am experiencing (songs chopped-off when transferred and attempted to playback from the device) have existed in some way, shape or form for nearly 10 years now, so I’m not expecting any grand revelations here - but just looking for some honest advice on how to resolve in the shortest amount of time & with the least pain considering I have a fairly large music library in terms of syncing time required.  That being said, below bulleted-out are my current issues / frustrations / thoughts on where the problems may lie.   I would appreciate any advice:
Purchased iTunes songs (ripped MP3’s from CD’s that I own and tracks from other sources do not seem to have the problem…) play fine in iTunes on my laptop, but when transferred to either my iPhone or iPod, they will randomly (it’s not every track) be cutoff near the end of the song.  Sometimes the song will stop with 2 minutes remaining and go silent. Sometimes it will stop with 15 seconds remaining and go silent.  Sometimes it will stop somewhere in that time range and start the next track on the album while still displaying the info from the previous track.  The only solution I have found to this for purchased content thus far is to wipe everything out, and go back and download the tracks from the cloud.  I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 tracks that fall into this category, so my options to download directly to the device an artist at a time are kind of time-consuming and cumbersome.  Would this have something to do with the file format of purchased tracks vs. ripped ones? I have a lot of older ripped material that was imported as MP3’s or MP3’s converted to M4A’s that never seems to have this problem.  The newer purchased files are mostly ACC’s which DO have the problem.   Also would this have anything to do with the fact that my library (including most of the purchased content) was recently moved over and imported to a new Macbook from a Windows backup?  Most of my iTunes library was Windows / PC for the majority of its existence for the past decade or so; we only recently switched back to Mac.
Discrepancies between deleting material on a device vs. what iTunes recognizes when it is plugged back in:  The other day, being frustrated with the random song chopping, I deleted everything on my iPod Touch 3rd Gen by going into Settings, Options, General, and “Usage” and then “Edit” and selecting to wipe out everything in iTunes. The device appeared to do this, and I was showing 28 gb or so free out of 32 once it completed.  Great, right?  I proceeded the rest of that day to painstakingly download approx. 900 tracks from the cloud onto the device, hoping to correct the chopping issue.  It did this, and I still had roughly 10 gb free. Great, right?  Later that night when I plugged the iPod into my Macbook with the 30 pin to sync, iTunes on the laptop for some reason still recognized the songs which I thought I had deleted hours earlier and showed me multiple copies of everything.  For the ones that had been deleted, when I clicked to play them on the iPod through iTunes, I got the little gray exclamation point - ! – in a circle like when a track has moved libraries and cannot be found.  iTunes then told me my sync could not be completed due to being over capacity on the device by a ridiculous 12 gb or something like that. Huh?? I could have gone through and manually deleted the (by that point more than 1000) duplicate tracks and synced to have made room I suppose – but after accidentally hitting Autofill – iTunes threw up its hands and would not let me do anything further.  Any attempts at that point to delete either pending Autofill tracks or missing duplicate tracks just led to endless spinning on the “Preparing Update” notice on the device which led to me having to kill iTunes.  Can you say big-time frustration?  I eventually opted to restore the iPod to factory (iOS 5.1.1) settings and start over.  That device is currently at home slogging through the process of attempting to re-download 400 some songs from the cloud over wi-fi so that I can avoid the cutoff track problem.  The plan after that is to sync playlists for certain artists over top of the purchased tracks so that my ripped tracks can merge with them to round out the playlist. Do you see how this is beginning to become a marathon?
Last but not least - it seems to be just since the last few iTunes upgrades for Mac, but I’m having a huge problem suddenly with album artwork staying synced properly. After one recent manual transfer session (30 pin between the iPhone and the Macbook) roughly half of the tracks I transferred had mismatched artwork.  Doing this through the cloud (downloading tracks “Not on this iPhone” via the iTunes app) doesn’t seem to have the same problem, but of course this takes longer. Also, what is the deal with “Show All Music” in iOS 7 and playing tracks from the cloud?  This is a really cool feature that allows you to save a ton of disk space on your device, but I have found that when I do this that many tracks have mismatched artwork.  For example right now I’m listening to a Grateful Dead song that is displaying Genesis artwork.  Huh?? Artwork is less of a big deal than the track lengths being chopped off, but it’s still annoying.
iTunes revolutionized the music industry and on the whole has been fantastic.  But it seems as if lately, little irritating problems like the syncing issues are becoming more and not less prevalent, and the problem is they aren't being dealt with.  I got my first Mac in college nearly 20 years ago now, and have been generally entrhalled with Apple products ever since.  But I have to say that this kind of junk lately is more what I would expect in the vein of problems from the shoddy-PC world that seem to linger and never get fixed.  Cupertino folks - what's the deal???

You're not the only one judging by the forums!
Likewise I have been using Apples since the Apple IIe(!) and have found them great in every respect. iTunes however over the past couple of years has deteriorated to th point of being unuseable. Apple has made iTunes the hub of your digital life and so it really has to work seemlessly.
I currently have had to completely wipe and re-install my 64Gb iPhone 4s several times to get my music back on to it. I cannot het any playlists to sync which is really annoying and it generally undermines my faith in Apples software quality.
Please put whatever resources are necessary to fix this soon Apple or you will certainly start to haemorrhage customers to other platforms. After all if iTunes remains broken then what's the point of paying the extra for Apple qulaity? You may as well uplaod ebverything to Google play and be done with it!

  • Premiere Pro audio sync issues with 48khz audio on video file and 44.1khz audio on external audio

So, I recorded video and audio on my Canon 5D Mark II at 1080p, 23.976 fps, and 48khz, 16-bit Stereo audio. And I used a Zoom H4 to record an mp3 audio file at 44.1khz Compressed. When trying to sync the audio in Premiere Pro CC, the audio slowly loses sync over time. I already tried to convert the 44.1khz mp3 file to 48khz in Adobe Audition. But that didn't fix the problem. Any ideas?

There's always time-stretch changes to the audio file with "keep pitch unchanged" checked, I suppose. Mind you, I've heard of people doing it but haven't done it myself. There's other possible options I'm sure. There's been quite a few threads here on time-sync issues over time.

  • Audio and video out of sync after exporting sequence

I'm a FCP user since years, but not so common with HD footage. Therefore I have an issue with my finished edited movie after exporting: Video and Audio are out of sync.
    My sequence settings are: HDV1080i50, 25fps, 48kHz, 16bit, Stereo. I used File-> Export-> Quicktime Movie -> Current Settings
Sequence has a duration of 61 minutes and 38 sec. I tried to find out where's the problem and exported audio and video seperated. This results in:
Video is 61 minutes and 27 sec long
Audio is 61 minutes and 38 sec long
That means exported video is shorter than original sequence.
    What could that be ?

I had the same problem with a Panasonic camera, even filming at 30 fps. I was able to fix it; see [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1783029&tstart=0]. It's a frustating problem, to be sure. You might have to use Easy Setup a couple times before you get things to work properly. Not sure why that's the case.
    Good luck!

  • Video syncing issues

I'm new to the video ipod and am having two problems with the video transfers. First, I have tried 'importing' and 'finding file' from my harddrive to bring to iTunes, and it won't let me. These are .avi files, and I am aware I will need to format to fit the iPod once they arrive in iTunes. Secondly, I have synced a couple of television shows to my iPod, but lost the sound along the way. I have picture, but no sound. Any suggestions, ideas, tutorials are appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry for the confusion. To clarify:
The Video and Audio are OOS. Let's say that at the beginning of the Clip, the difference is ~ 12 frames off. Is it still that ~ 12 frames off at the end, or is it now ~40 frames OOS?
Though the best is to Capture with no OOS issues, the former is fairly easy to fix. The latter takes more work.
Also, whether the OOS is constant, or dynamic, might lead to figuring out where this issue is being introduced.
    Good luck,

  • Playback pauses and audio sync issues with live video stream

I'm seeing playback pauses about every three seconds and audio sync issues with our live demo stream when using the OSMF/Strobe player.  It happens on both our 2Mbps 720p stream and our 480p 750Kbps stream so it does not seem to be related to higher resolution/bandwidth streams.  It also happens if I point directly to a stream asset or if I point to a .f4v with both streams listed for dynamic so it does not seem to be related to dynamic streaming specifically.
The same live streams play back very well without pauses or audio sync issues in the Akamai's dynamic player and even slightly better with JW 5.2.
I have viewed the OSMF/Strobe playback on three different laptops of various age (3 months to 2 years) and two are Windows and one is Linux.  I have also tried the various buffering options on the Flash Media Player Setup and Strobe setup and it has not made a noticeable difference.
To see the stream with the Akamai player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com
To see the stream with the OSMF/Strobe player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com/osmf
I do not have JW set up for public viewing yet, but the two above show the distinct difference.
We are really hoping to start pointing our customers towards the OSMF player because of the support provided by the community and Adobe, but we have to get the quality of the playback to be acceptable first.
If someone has ideas on debugging I can PM the actual video assets to you.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.

  • Audio Slipping (Sync issues) steaming video.

    Hey all,
I was wondering if this had happened to anyone else.
Since updating to Yosemite i've noticed a real problem when streaming video online through my web browser.
Regularly whilst watching a video there is a crackle on the audio track, then a second of the audio is repeated almost like an echo.
When this happens however the video caries on meaning the audio and video are out of sync.
This occurs on everything from Netflix, Youtube, DA Clips and other video sharing sites.
It occurs on Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox.
The only way to fix the problem and re-sync the audio is to reload the page with the video and begin again.
Unsure whether this is related or not but i've also noticed some slipping of audio when playing music in spotify. But obviously because it has nothing to sync up to you just hear the same word twice and it carries on, kinda like a scratch on an LP.
Would really appreciate any words of wisdom.
    I'm currently running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    Macbook 13inch late 2009 model
    2.26 processor
    4GB Memory
    Many thanks
    josh

In case anyone comes across this in the future, I've resolved my issue, and it had nothing to do with audio bit rates. In short, there seems to be a well-documented yet unfixed but in which an export from iMovie can lose sync if there are either slow-motion effects applied to a clip, or if the slow-motion speed is custom rather than pre-set by the software.
I changed my clips to 100% and everything exported fine, with no sync issues. For more on this, see the helpful thread here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10618532#10618532

  • Why Wont Apple Fix AUDIO / VIDEO Sync Issues

This has been a problem for awhile. Thank god there is a application fix but im receiving an iTouch very soon and I'm not sure if the same problem is going to be on that to..
It might be how Quicktime reads .MP4 and .M4V Files but i can play the videos on VLC and Zune Software fine..
I see other people posting this exact same problems. I see no answers... Apple Knows this is an issue. Why wont they fix it.
From what im hearing it is the audio that is going out of sync from the video.
    Now my Final Question is
"Is this just a Software issue for the computers or is it also a Software issue (Assuming that quicktime is the software on these devices) for the iTouch / iPhone ?

well i got my itouch today and it seems that the audio and video sync issues are only on the computer distributions of quicktime and not the hand held device versions

  • TIMECODES are important for audio and video sync issues

Hello, just wanted to pass on what I learned so that others can avoid the trouble that I've had to go through. Perhaps this may help someone who is stuck on the launch pad. :)
BOTTOM LINE: Info for the beginner. Audio and video not in sync in Premiere Pro CS3 V3.2.0
PROBLEM: Capture works great it seems. When I go to the folder that contains the captured file and view in Windows Media Player audio and video are in sync. BUT when viewing the video asset in the source and program monitors, the audio and video are not in sync.
    SOLUTION:
Before capturing a tape make certain the following is checked:
    (1) Edit->Preferences->Capture->Use device control timecode
    (2) Edit->Preferences->Device Control->Options->Timecode Format
    (3) Project->Project Settings->General->Video->Display format
As for the devices timecode choose something other than Auto Detect. Then match the project timecode with what was chosen during capture. The projects display format could of course be set to frames.
I searched everywhere for audio and video sync issues in google, adobe forums, F1 help, and hv20.com and everyone was talking about:
    (1) Presets: 1080p30 vs. 1080i30 (60i).
    (2) brakes in the tape where timecode for the audio and video get misaligned during capture.
But choosing the correct hardware settings and timecodes to solve audio and video sync issues never popped up.
    MY HARDWARE: Canon HV30, HDV

    >Audio and video not in sync in Premiere Pro CS3 V3.2.0
Must be an HDV only issue because my synch is always perfect.

  • Solution to AVC/H.264 MPEG4 video compression Audio Sync Issue

Been trying to find an solution to this problem for a year now - one would think Adobe would have addressed themselves but....
I have the Xacti E1 camera and it utilizes the AVC/H.264 MPEG4 video compression that both Premier Elements 4 & 7 plus Pro CS4 have sync issues with.
What I did was use Quicktime Pro to convert the Audio ONLY to wave – very fast actually. So basically in Premier I added the original MPEG4 video to the timeline, removed its messed up audio, replaced it with the Quicktime Pro wav file then regroup the wav audio and video to keep it clean.

    Sure!
Would be nice if Adobe addressed the problem as this std is used by most flash based video cameras
