Strange lag while scrolling pdf's

Hello,
Recently I was working on some pdfs and I noticed somethings. When I open 250+ page ebook, there is horrible lag in Preview. So I tried opening in Safari and viola.. lag was gone. But only to return in a while (There is no lag in browsing webpages).  So I opened it in the newer Google Chrome Canary - Its a beta , but its fast. Really fast. And there was no lag ! Now I'm surprised. What might be causing the pdf's to lag in preview and safari ?
All the pdf's I opened are simple text only with rare pictures (1 pic per 100 pages or so).
I also created  a new user account and did the same thing. And got the same results. The pdf's lag in Preview and Safari but not the Chrome beta.
I guess it'll seem that my problem is solved , so why am I asking, but its baffling to me why this might occur. Any thoughts ? Will Mavericks solve it?
PS- My ML is clean  install. mid 2011 21.5 inch i5

  • Strange error while opening pdf in Firefox

    Hi there,
I have a strange problem with Acrobat 9 on Windows 7 64bit. When I click on a PDF file on websites, a white site opens and I get an Acrobat message, which is totally empty.
In the error box there is just a question mark on a blue circle, an "OK"-button and the title line says "Adobe Acrobat". The PDF files won't open.
That is something I have never had yet! When I choose "repair installation" from the Acrobat help menu - it works and I can open PDF files n the Firefox 3.5.5 browser - but about half an hour later I get the same error message again.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Problem is on my end … I’m running on windows 2008r2 server  which has a computability problem with Acrobat Reader on client side ..Adobe is working out a fix….i wuill be switch back to the old server late today which should cure the problem If you wish to see the tech side of it Here's the official word on what the problem is, from MS tech support: In IIS7.5 we have implemented an optimization code that handles especially byte-ranges request whose result is a single range as follows. When a client makes a request of byte-ranges whose result is a single range, IIS 7.5 does not include the media type in the response! This seems to break Adobe-reader add-on in IE. In IIS7 and below we treated byte-ranges requests whose result is a single range the same manner as byte-ranges requests whose result is NOT a single range meaning that we all the time sent a media type in the response header. Example: The below request: Command: GET   + URI: /test.pdf   ProtocolVersion: HTTP/1.1   Accept:  */*   Range: bytes=153572-186237, 748935-750373, 748238-748934, 186238-411153, 750374-750792, 411154-486125, 486126-748237 … … Is equivalent to making a request to range 153572 - 750792 IIS7 will respond with - Http: Response, HTTP/1.1, Status Code = 206, URL: /test.pdf   ProtocolVersion: HTTP/1.1   StatusCode: 206, Partial content   Reason: Partial Content   ContentType: multipart/byteranges; boundary= … … IIS 7.5 will respond with   ProtocolVersion: HTTP/1.1   StatusCode: 206, Partial content   Reason: Partial Content   ContentType: application/pdf … … So in the case of IIS7.5, it is just like we are responding to a single range request “153572 - 750792 “  in which the HTTP RFC says that you should NOT send a media type in the response header! The IIS 7 and IIS7.5 behavior are both HTTP RFC compliant   A response to a request for a single range MUST NOT be sent using the   multipart/byteranges media type.  A response to a request for   multiple ranges, whose result is a single range, MAY be sent as a   multipart/byteranges media type with one part. A client that cannot   decode a multipart/byteranges message MUST NOT ask for multiple   byte-ranges in a single request. Adobe was finally able to recreate the problem on Friday, and they are supposed to be working on it.  (I don't know what their issue was with not being able to recreate it, but I did find out over the weekend that the behavior is different if the client you are using to browse the website is in a remote desktop session - everything seems to work fine.) Not sure what IIS Core team is doing, if anything.  Even if Adobe provides a patch, I'm not too sure about using 2008 r2 as public web server if it requires the client to have the latest and greatest plugin.  Microsoft may have the letter of the law on their side regards the RFC, but sometimes being right just isn't enough.

  • SSRS 2008 R2 - Column Headers of a tablix visible while scrolling - Then the column headers not visible on 2nd page onwards for PDF EXPORT. it's vice versa. Hence it is possible to provide both at same time ?

    Hi,
    I am using SSRS 2008 R2.
I have two TABLIX in a report.  One is TABLIX with row/clumn grouping. 2nd one is flat view.
Here each tablix is dispaly it's data on single page for each.
My Requirement on First TABLIX is:
         1. I have to make column headers visible on scrolling down
         2. Export to PDF - column headers must be visible on all the pdf pages  for same tablix data.
But ... either one is achieved at my end.
so ... any suggestions please to achieve both at same time.
    thank you in advance.
    best regards,
    venkat.

    Hi G.V.Naidu,
According to your description, the first tablix is matrix to use display data.
In SSRS, if we want to fix matrix header visible while scrolling and repeat header columns on each page, we can select the corresponding option to enable this function. Please refer to the steps below:
    1. Right click tablix, and select Tablix Properties.
    2. Select “Keep header visible while scrolling” and “Repeat header rows on each page” to enable these function.
If we are use table to display data, please refer to the article about Repeat Header / Keep Header Visible in Tables.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robertbruckner/archive/2008/10/13/repeat-header-and-visible-fixed-header-table.aspx
If there are any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.

  • Acrobat XI on MacBook Pro Retina down severely on scrolling PDFs

    Hi all.
I've seen lots of threads around the net about slow scrolling on macbook and acrobat pro but having tried a few things I am compelled to ask myself for some help.
I have a Retina MacBook Pro 15" from Late 2012 and fully updated Mountain Lion (10.8.3), it has the solid state disk and I hit it with the cpu upgrade and ram upgrades on purchase.
For most applications it is gratifyingly fast - including, I should say much of the CS6 suite.
But when it comes to using PDFs in Acrobat XI it is really almost unusable.  The scrolling hesitation and interface lag for scrolling is horrendus.  It doesn't seem to matter too much if it is a big or small PDF in number of pages or size of images - ie pages of text that are rendered instead of text.
Sure, some of the PDFs I typically use are quite large and long. I am currently getting frustrated over one which is 690 pages but only 5 MB - another 300 pages and less than 2MB but they bog down something horrid.
And the most frustrating thing is that when I open them in Preview they scroll just as fast and cleanly as they do on my iPAD!!!
I have tried reinstalling, I have tried unchecking "run in 32bit" and I have looked at every internal setting I can find to no avail.
Can anyone suggest anything that might be causing it to be so sloooooow on this platform which should eat simple pdf viewing and annotating alive - (and I haven't even got the the point where I would be confident adding PitStop etc)
    Best regards,
    Will

    @g.miles
    Do this:
Right click on "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app", and select "Get info".
Check if "Open in low resolution" is ticked (it was on my machine, and greyed out).
    Untick and open the app.
If it is grayed out, do the following:
Make a backup of "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app".
Right click on "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app" and select "Show Package Contents"
    Open "info.plist"
Add "<key>NSHighResolutionCapable</key> <string>True</string>" at the bottom of the file, just before "</dict></plist>"
    Save
Open the modified app package. Now everything should be crisp.
    Worked for me!
BUT it seems to lag down the application alot – especially zooming. So it could be you want to have it ticked to gain performance, but now you at least have the option (i.e it is not greyed out).
    EDIT:
I agree, this release is not up to par of what we should expect from Adobe.

  • IPhone - Typing lag, text scrolling, lag

    Hi all,
After upgrading to 2.0 I've experienced lag while typing in many areas (text, Safari, Contacts, etc.) - it takes a second or two for the screen to display what I've entered. At this point, I'm able to type a few words before it decides to diplay. In addition, scrolling through the phone is a chore as it freezes when selecting Contacts, Recents and so on.
To make things more interesting, there are times when I am unable to scroll to the bottom of existing text messages - when selecting the text, it will not be at the bottom. Rather, it will be 4-5 texts up - it is possible to scroll to the bottom; however, it will not stay there. To text, I must enter the text area then press the Home button a couple of times - this seems to happen when there are unread texts available.
Turning iPhone off and on has not helped, seems like a restore is the next option though any suggestions are always welcome.
    Regards,
    Jason

I have this same problem and it drives me absolutely INSANE!!! It wasn't apparent before 2.0 and multiple restores have done nothing to correct it. Apple needs to get on the ball.... So far the iPhone has, in general, been a huge disappointment and I purchased Day One. Of all the Apple products I have owned in the last 9 years, I must say that Logic (all versions) and the iPhone are the only ones I would consider crap. I use Ableton Live because it's way better software for producing electronic music than Logic but there is no better option concerning the iPhone. If Apple would offer Logic as a plugin package or simply allow it to be ReWired as a slave application I would go back to using it. ****, I'm Apple Certified in Logic and I won't use it anymore!!! I seem to have gotten off topic.... Apple please fix the iPhone (and Logic while you're at it).
P.S. I will not be surprised if my post gets deleted as Apple is rather touchy about technically-minded people giving poor reviews of their products. They should focus instead on making sure their products perform at the top than hushing the opinions of their pro users. Just my .02!!!

  • Vertical slider position not updated while displaying .pdfs with Adobe Reader X

When a .pdf file is opened inside Firefox 4 (beta/RC1), the vertical slider position does not update while scrolling through the document until the mouse cursor is moved to the slider bar (then the slider immediately jumps to the right place).
I am using Adobe Reader X.

Here is a URL that will not save in Reader X:
    http://samplepdf.com/sample.pdf?meaningless=1234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456 789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456 789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456 7890/&blah=blah.pdf
However, if the last slash is removed or encoded as %2f (which should not be necessary, as it appears in the query portion of the URL), there is no problem.

  • Strange phenomenon when scrolling through develop module images in LR6

I just upgraded to LR6 and so far like what I see as far as performance increases.
Noticed a strange phenomenon today while scrolling through the images in the develop module. These are all rendered images with a preset applied to them.
I notice when I use the arrow key to go to the next image, the image first displays very "flat" or basic and then the rendered image appears a second or two later. If I scroll back the image displays normal rendered.
It is only when I go about 2-3 images back it starts to display the same issue of non-rendered to then a rendered image. If I scroll forward to images I have not seen yet it does the same thing of showing a non-rendered image to a rendered image.
I think I narrowed this down to the "Use the graphics processor" option. If I turn this off  the image loads a lot slower but only displays the rendered version and not the flat and then rendered version.
Turning the GPU option back on immediately does the dual image version. Strange and hard to explain but not sure if anyone else has seen this.

  • Finder (and Mail) display corrupted while scrolling

    Hi all,
Recently Finder is behaving strangely. While I'm scrolling through large lists of folders the text and images are getting bulky and dark, this goes for the scrollbars aswel. Mail is also affected. Could the latest Java-update have something to do with it? Or my DVI-connector from the Cinema Display? Does anybody recognize this problem or better yet have a solution for it?
Examples are to be found here:

    Thanks in advance!

Sorry, no solution, but my computer has been doing this since day 1. Haven't been able to find any solution. I do use the Pantone Huey to calibrate my monitor. I only see this in finder windows.

    Hi,
I think this is an ADS error. This is a reason why pdf's are not working. We had the same issue.
    You can check your installation:

    Hi Jan,
Most possible causes for encountering this issue are:
    Possible cause:
    - The ADS is installed on a plattform, that is currently not supported by SAP for ADS. Please check the avaliablity at: Product Availability Matrix
    - Mixing of different Netweaver releases (NW04 and NW04s) -> This is unfortunatelly not possibble the J2EE engine release has to match with the ABAP stack release in order connect them properly.
    - The ADS SP level does not match the J2EE engine SP level. -> Please update the software components to have the same support package level.
    Hope this helps!!
    Regards,
    Arafat
