Strange photo split in Organizer

My mac crashed and after I got it up and running again, I reloaded my photos from a backup into Organizer.  Now most of the photos that had people in it were split into new photos with just the faces showing.  What did I do wrong and how can I repair it without going through all the extra photos and deleting them individually.  There are dozens of them. I have Organizer 10, MacBook Pro (Maverick) Thanks

Yes,
What you are seeing by default is shown as 'My folders' view. It's a flat alphabetical list of the last level subfolders in which you have media files.
Click on the little yellow icon just right of the 'My folders' title bar, and you switch to the 'Folders' view which reflects what you see in your explorer. The difference is that by default, you see only subfolders having image files; if you want to display subfolders without image files, right click on the master folder and choose to show empty folders; that choice is not sticky.

  • How to export photos from Elements Organizer on Mac?

I saw someone asked the same question and it seemed not to be possible with the Mac version. Surely this can't be possible as this must be one of the single most important functions in an Archving system.

    rugfoot wrote:
The problem is I can't move them to a new folder. If I could I wouldn't have the export problem. I just dragging and dropping but it doesn't work. I have made a selection (15) of photos in Elements Organizer but I can't identify which ones they are (from 300) in the Mac Finder app (= Windows Explorer).
Sorry, I can't test that on a Mac, but I thought that 'Windows only' features would be stated on the Adobe pdf help file, and moving file is not mentionned as Windows only, whereas 'export' is clearly stated as Windows only.

    Edit,
By the way, the very useful faq list in the right panel of this forum links to PSE9, not PSE10 for the location of the guides.

  • Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow

Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow. The fact that the power supply to the computer was accidentally disconnected while I was working in iPhoto no doubt was the cause of this phenom.
Any suggestions as to how to re-sync the rotations back up?

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware of the use of theses two keys simultaneously. It occured to me after this post to just trash the whole library which I had just created for this particular group of photos and re-import the photos to a newly re-created library. I still had the camara connected so as it turned out it was fairly easy. Now that I think about it, if this hadn't been a newly created library just for this group of photos it wouldn't have worked so simply, so I guess I discovered another benifit for having multiple libraries.
I'm glad you recomended the apple/alt key combo though as this knowledge no-doubt will come in handy at some time.

  • How Do I Open a "Edit in Progress" Photo in the Organizer in a Stacked File

I have a photo in my organizer which indicates "edit in progress".  This photo is one of three in a version set.  I am unable to open this file to continue the editing.
Also, when I complete editing a photo and "save as" a JPEG file I keep getting the dialog box which asks if I want to save the changes made.  What am I doing wrong in "save as"?
PLEASE NOTE THAT IN DOING "SAVE AS" I AM ALSO SAVING THE EDITED PHOTO IN THE IWORKS PICTURE FILE.

Okay, you didn't mention that you've also got iPhoto involved in this. If you want to use organizer, don't try to use iphoto at the same time, and vice versa.
If you do want to use iphoto, you're going about it in a way that can cause a lot of grief down the road. To use iphoto with PSE you have two options:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photo from iphoto, save (not save as) without changing the name or format and iphoto will keep your last edited version plus the original.
    2. Export from iphoto to the desktop, use file>Open in PSE, save the edited photo under a new name and reimport it to iphoto as a new file. More details here:
    http://barbarabrundage.com/2010/11/29/using-photoshop-elements-9-with-iphoto/
I still don't really understand exactly what you're doing, but I can tell you for sure you're making this immensely harder than it needs to be.

  • The stack sub menu does not enable for stacked photos in elements organizer 13 on windows 8.1

The stack sub menu does not enable for stacked photos in elements organizer 13 on windows 8.1.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
I stacked some photos, now I cannot expand them or unstack them in the organizer.
This is for both auto and manual stacking.

Please press Ctrl+D to move to the older grid and now the stack option should be enabled.

  • Where are the photos in the organizer located?

When I put photos in the organizer, does the organizer make copies of the originals? Where are they located on the hard drive?

You don't put any photo in the organizer : the location on the drive of the media files and their properties are written in the catalog database together with a small thumbnail. The photos stay where you have put them.
If you are 'getting photos or videos' from camera or card reader, you are using an accessory module (the downloader) to upload from your camera card to your computer before the photos are registered in the organizer catalog. You can check the location where the files are written in your computer in the Edit / preference menu of the organizer. You can specify where you want the photos to be stored on your computer.
After the photos are downloaded from your card, the organizer automatically reads the location and properties of those files and writes that info in the database.
If you are 'getting photos from files or folders', there is no copy, the updating of the database is made from the already present files on your computer.
It's up to you to chose if you want to use the downloader or simply use other ways to get the photos from your card to your computer.

  • Photos in Elements Organizer 8 have developed a ? mark on the thumbnail. Cannot print.

Some of my photos in Elements Organizer 8 have developed a ? mark on the thumbnail.  I no longer can print a photo from these.  How do I get rid of the problem?

Thank you for a prompt reply,  the photos have not been moved or deleted.  The only thing in common is all problem photos were originally sent via e-mail.  The files go missing without any action on my part after a few months. I can get the missing file to give a computer location, but cannot get the system to “reinstate” the photo in elements to be printed.

  • How many photos are in Organizer Catalog

How many photos are in my Organizer Catalog?

Sorry if you already know this but I feel it is worth repeating. There are no photos "in" the organizer - the photos are where you put them or have told the organizer/editor to put them.
The organizer database only contains links to your photos which is why you should NOT rename, delete or move a photo by external applications like Windows Explorer of Finder. The organizer does hold a small preview image of very low quality which it uses in the grid view.
If you want to know how many photos have been cataloged, then try going into the thumbnail grid view and ensure that all images are being viewed - i.e. no Back button or Show All button at the top of the grid. There is usually a status line at the bottom of the window which contains a count of images.
If you tell us which operating system you are running on and which version of Photoshop Elements you have, we may be able to help you more.

I had a similar problem (if not the same).  I think on mine the catologue got messed up.
    Do this:
load PSE.  Then hold CTRL + SHIFT + ALT and click on Organizer.  Keep holding the buttons until a catologue screen comes up.  Try to repair and optimize your current catologue and reload organizer.
If that doesn't work (it didn't for me)- create a new catalogue and reload Organizer.  Then re-add your photos to the organizer.
    Worked for me.

  • How do I move my photos from the organizer into the photo bin?

PSE 11 on Mac running Mountain Lion.  I managed to import some photos into the Organizer, But how do I get those photos into the Photo bin of the Elements Editor? I actually have opened 3 of the photos with Editor but they don't appear in the photo bin.  I am probably missing something pretty obvious but am totally new to PSE 11 - the last version I used was PSE 8 which used the Browser option in which you could just click on the photo you wanted in the browser and it would open it in the Editor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, so I'm feeling really dumb - I can't find where "thumbnails" is in the Organizer. I'm including a screenshot of the way my organizer screen looks - I don't see where an thumbnails option is -- sorry for being so dense - usually this stuff is pretty intuitive to me!

  • Is it possible to link a photo to an organizational schedule in pdf?

Is it possible to link a photo to an organizational schedule in pdf?

It still isn't clear to me. I understand the org chart is in a PDF.
    Where are the photos?
    * In the same PDF?
    * In a different PDF?
    * In many different PDFs?
    * On a web page somewhere (JPEGs etc.)?
    * Somewhere else?
Do you just want the link to show the whole relevant page of the chart, or something more?

  • Ideas to Improve Tagging of photos in PSE Organizer

I've been using PSE since V2 and recently upgraded from PSE 11 to PSE 13. While PSE is solid and has some nice new features, it's apparent after some use that my hopes that manual face tagging would be greatly improved were not realized.  I take some responsibility for this as I've grumbled about the unnecessary steps and lack of features in this area and have been silent.  So, I have some suggestions which would be really, really nice to see in an update to the Photoshop Elements Organizer.
The thrust of this posting is to improve manual tagging of pictures:  Steps one does to augment tagging after "Add People" and "Add Places" has been used.
Please let me know what you think of this list and I'll submit a revised version as a development suggestion.  Which ideas are good?  workable?  Which ones are half baked?  Have I missed features that already exist so these suggestions are unnecessary?
    Recently Used tags:
When tagging a set of pictures it is highly likely to reuse tags across many pictures.
If the tags are from many areas in the tag group structure it requires opening and closing parts of the group tree to access the tags.  This is arduous if one has a large number of tags.
Recommend providing a "Recently Used Tags" in the list of tag sections below Keywords, People, Places, and Events.
Recently used tags should provide a lot of tags in Most Recently Used order - 100 at a minimum.  Tagging weddings and other group events involve using a lot of tags.
Recently used tags should include all types of tags - people, places, events, etc.
This approach would be beneficial when PSE fails to find faces as well as when non-face tags need to be applied to pictures.
    Favorite tags:
Add a "Favorites" tag structure along with People, Places, Events, and Recently Used from above.
Allow tags to be assigned to favorites by selecting a tag and right click "Add to Favorites".
Allow tags in Favorites to be reordered by dragging up and down in the list.
Allow tags to be removed from Favorites by selecting the tag with right click "Remove from Favorites".
Adding face tags for faces that were not found (no box on the face) requires way too many steps for a picture selected in the organizer (seven steps).  Today one must:
    Press "Mark Face" button.
Drag rectangle placed in upper left to a face.
    Size rectangle to the face.
Click in name area below rectangle.
    Type beginning of name.
    Select name from list
Click green check to confirm selected name.
First suggested alternative for face tagging (3 steps):
Right (or left) click and drag to create rectangle on face - Organizer recognizes this operation and marks face and opens name box below.
Type beginning of name in name box.
Select name from list.  When name is selected it is confirmed - no green check to confirm selected name.  In the unlikely event one incorrectly selects a name it can always be corrected or the face box removed.
Second suggested approach to quick face tagging:
Open one Tags/Info and expand one of the tag structures: People, Places, Events, Recently Used tags, or Favorites and navigate to a tag.
Drag a tag (that is a person) into a unassigned facial recognition box.  This completes the face tag.
If no box exists for a face, right click and drag a tag to a face.  The default sized square is created on center of release point at end of drag and the tag is assigned to the face.  Allow the user to resize the square to margins of face and hit enter to complete tag.  Using right click for this process differentiates a new face tag from the standard left click which assigns the tag to the photo or an empty face tag box.
This approach requires one or two steps per tag unless the tag needs to be located in the tag strucure.
    Other photo tagging issues:
Do not suggest a person for a face tag if they are already face tagged on the picture as they probably aren't in two places on the same picture.
When clicking on a blank name for an empty face tag PSE provides a list of names that is barely wide enough for 3 names.  A larger list of suggested names should be provided - it could extend beyond the entry area for the name and below it.  If face recognition does find a good match PSE should include in the list any people tags which are assigned to the photo but have not been tagged to a face.  Anyone having used PSE for a long period of time likely has many pictures which are tagged with people but are not face tagged.  This approach would reduce the effort in selecting a person.
Sometimes a lot of non-faces are detected in a picture.  Removing these boxes requires separate clicks on each box's 'X'.   Suggest a context menu on the photo, 'Remove unused face tags' to clear them' in one step.
I'd appreciate all ideas and suggestions.  In advance, thanks!

You should see it bottom left of Organizer.

  • Photo folders in Organizer view.

I have Photoshop Elements 12. In organizer view, the file tree in left pane does not match the photo files I have set up in my MS Windows Pictures folder. It just has files by date and not all of them. Can I get it to reflect the files I have made? Thanks so much.
