Strange/slow loading site

Hi Guys
I'm currently in the process of making a HTML site in
dreamweaver. it seem's to load very stangely... or is it me. Can
you guys do me a favour and check out the link and give me any
hints on where im going wrong....

Is there something I have done wrong?
Cheers

As designs go, I like it - pleasing to the eye, etc. However,
let me
quote the next few lines of code:
<table id="Table_01" width="956" height="601" border="0"
cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td colspan="30">
As basically a code guy, I can tell you right there that
you've got
trouble in terms of maintenance - heights on table and
colspans/rowspans will eventually and invariably lead to
trouble.
Other problems:
- Go to that page with images turned off. That essentially
represents
the view of a search engine - for the most part, they can't
read what's
in an image. It also cuts out people using adaptive
technology (screen
readers).
- Another disadvantage is download size. The rule of thumb
for
visitors is that you want to present them with engaging
content in 10
seconds. (In fact, I've seen numbers recently which indicate
that
they're getting even itchier mouse fingers...) For a visitor
on 56K
dialup (a bit under half the US market; not sure of the UK),
that means
total download size (all html, css, script and image files)
of 50K or
less. Your site clocks in at 121K.
- Minor issue, and it's arguable, but one of the side effects
of larger
screens is that, counterintuitively, people tend to browse
with smaller
browser windows. Your site is about 960 pixels wide; I don't
know as
it's a 'rule', but I like keeping sites under 800 pixels
wide.
If you need this right away, hire somebody to translate your
fine
design into a workable website. If you have a bit of time,
spend it
learning HTML and CSS, and then come back to the site.

  • Safari slow loading sites j

All of a sudden Safari is very slow loading web pages. The blue bar will start and then it will freeze and stay there. If I hit stop and refresh it zips right across and loads. I have emptied the cache, reset Safari and run Disk Utility. Any suggestions?

Hi again, researching further, I found a poster who wrote:
_+If that doesn't work try changing your dns settings. I had a similar issue and after a visit to opendns.com and changing my settings, things are better than before. Plus I changed the settings on my router and which solved the problem for all my computers._+
though I did the other two things, the .com.apple file thing and the macfixit (well I tried some of those) this is what worked, going to the above mentioned webpage and following the very simple steps. I have no idea what the heck I did actually, but it worked. I also do not know why all of a sudden everything changed and I had to do this trouble shooting. Made me feel like I was back in PC Land.

  • Flash newbie questions about slow loading site

Hi all. I am new to Flash and web-site building in general and I have been learning while doing. Its fun, but frustrating. I really need some help, hope someone out there with Flash experience can give me some advice.
My problem is this: I built a Flash website, but it is painfully slow to load up (3-5 minutes via cable modem) when I visit the site (via Firefox, etc). Once it does load up, everything is fine with navigation. I'm having a hard time figuring out why its taking so long to load up on the web because, basically, I don't know how to trouble shoot. Hope you guys can help!
Details: the site is just a portfolio site with pictures and a few motion-things, no complicated animations. The swf file is about 9MB. I do have a flash preloader, but it doesn't show up until after the 3-5 minute "load-up" time. When I do the testing via Flash, its Ok and doesn't show the lag. But once I upload the website files and try to visit my website, the load time problem occurs.
    My thoughts:
    - do I have to purge my Flash file/library of unused images before creating my swf file?
    - Is there a problem with my html code in my index file?
    - because it is a portfolio site, I've got about 90 images on it, each image about 300-400K.  Is this too big, or about right?
Please help! Sorry for the long email, just desperate for help. Thanks in advance for any advise!!!! Just in case, here is the html code:

Yeah I'm with Ned on this one. Dynamically loading your images is the way to go. The fact that you are new to Flash, try this tutorial (http://www.entheosweb.com/Flash/loading_external_images.asp). As you move along in learning Flash, look for tutorials on actionscript arrays and loading images dynamically. Arrays allow you to call each images from a folder outside your fla. That way your site moves right along without much loading time.
    Hope I was of help,

  • Slow loading site

I built my website with iWeb and it's horribly slow to load using the iPad and I just gave up with the Nook and the iPod Touch.
None of the files are very big. There are some image files over 100k but the rest are under 100k each.
Any suggestions as to how to speed the site up?

I don't see anything obvious why it should be so slow. Have you had problems with any site on that server in the past or with other sites on their servers? I'm not familiar with commercial servers, only MobileMe so my insight into them is limited.
I cleared my browser's cache and went back to your site and it loaded quicker than the first time but not really fast. The variation could be due to traffic at the server's end.
Your site is not large by any measure so it can't be due to large image files and lots of frames/reflections, shadows, etc. The most number of files any photo page has to load is 43, more when you go to the grid mode with the mini thumbnails.

  • Slow load times on AU sites?

is anyone still experiencing slow load times on AU sites, apparently this is resolved but I just emptied my cache and checked load times on half dozen sites. Still very slow!

I just loaded http://www.prettypollution.com.au/ and it took 17sec.
Got similar time for http://www.designexperts.com.au/ as well. So, although not very fast it's much better than what you’re seeing. Could be something in the node you’re being routed through.

  • Slow loading MUSE site, since latest Muse upgrade.

    My hosting is 123-REG,
I export HTML and FTP upload the whole 79mb...
My old, prior to Muse upgrade, site loaded fine, everytime...
Since I upgraded Muse V5, exported HTML and uploaded the whole site... it takes several minutes to load a single page, as if it is loading the whole site before it loads the page I've clicked....
Anyone else seeing unuasably slow loads on live pages... exported as HTML on their sites?
I've tried on several devices and all slow, i've 100mb fibre and no other sites load slow.
Friends have tried on their computers.. all slow..
Several browsers tried.. same slow response..
    My site: www.paulempson.co.uk
    Thanks..
    Paul.

ftgben, please send the .muse file to us so we can attempt to reproduce the slowness and track down (and fix) the root cause. Thanks.
Please send us the .muse file at [email protected] along with a link to this thread. If the file is larger than 20Mb you can use a service like Adobe SendNow, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc. (If you use a service, please include your return e-mail address in the body of the message, since not all services include it in the sharing invite they send.) Thanks.

  • Firefox periodically slow to load sites

For the past 5.5 days, Firefox will periodically be slow to load sites. This happens with any site and even as other browsers such as Chrome or Internet Exploder run just fine. Internet connection not working right has also been ruled out. I tried clearing the cookies and cache and that didn't do anything. As it happens at random intervals, I have no idea what else might be causing it

Avast anti-virus and Windows Firewall. If either of them have something to do with the slowness problem, it would be the first time they've caused a problem

  • Why is my new Airport Extreme loading sites slower than my old Airport Express

I replaced my 2007 Airport Express with the newest model Airport Extreme yesterday. Speed tests show that my download speeds are 60% higher with the new Extreme.  However, when I load sites in Safari, Chrome or Firefox, they are much slower to load (e.g. 16 seconds to load Netflix)  than before.  Your help would be appreciated.

These can be difficult issues to sort out..
You need to LAN speed test.. ie copy a file from one computer to another on the network.. the second computer should be plugged in by ethernet so it is not going to cause slower speeds.
Then do the speednet test.. also just by ethernet and compare with wireless..
Once you have speed testing.. LAN side and WAN side we can perhaps help you to sort the issue.
We will need as much network info as possible.

  • Website slow loading

So I am having a problem with one website that I frequent. It it much slower loading than other websites I visit. The progress bar seems to freeze for several seconds. Sometimes if I hit the x then the reload symbol the page loads right away. I have asked other people, it is a forum site, if they have had problems lately and nobody has experienced the slow loading problem I have. One person suggested clearing the history which I did. That didn't work so I researched the web and found a suggestion to delete the cache from the library and also clear history. I did that as well and nothing has improved. It only happens on this one site and has only started happening in the last two maybe three weeks.
Any suggestions on what else I could try? I do not want to use another browser to see if it works in another browser. It used to work fine but doesn't now. Just looking for other things I could try to resolve the issue.

Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
Test. After testing, restart as usual and post the results.

  • Slow loading website

So I just finished my website but it loads piece by piece and
a slower than I would have liked. is there anyway to improve this
that would not require me redoing it all over? The site is here:
    http://www.martinpaulphotography.com/index.html
    thanks,
    Martin.

    A couple of things:
    (1) If the music is in your flash file, you can delay it a
few frames. Too much in the first frame slows loading. You might
consider adding a volume X button for those that want to browse w/
    sound.
    (2) Optimize the images of your page. There are a lot of them
which is one of the reasons for the slow load.
Is that your musical composition? If not, you should post
your use with permission on the front page to oblige the author's
permission. If you don't have that....lose the music. Be careful
    here, especially with professional sites.

  • Do I have DNS problems? Slow loading or no access ...

    Hi all,
Most of the time my broadband seems to play nicely however I seem to have painfully slow loading or non-loading websites with annoying regularity. It is not all sites and the problem seems rather selective.
Sites that I know are up (such as bbc.co.uk) are sometimes impossible to load. A speed test shows somewhere between 2Mb and 7.5Mb (yeah, I know - contention in my area is a real issue).
If I VPN out to a proxy server then everything works just fine.
Does anyone know if this is a BT DNS issue?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply.
I changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 but still no joy - pick a random page and some work, some don't. My smart TV is decidedly dumb and nothing will stream. Give it a few hours and it is usually fine.
I am also randomly getting the message that "You're seeing this page becasue BT parental controls is active and you are attemtping to connect to a DNS outside of our network" which I am not...
    [sigh]

  • Ipad Air & Ipad mini very slow loading websites

    Hi all
Im experiencing very slow website loading issues on my Ipad air and my daughters Ipad mini retina. When this occurs the devices even stop loading the site completely. When i open the same site on iPhones 4s or iMac it loads instantly,  WiFi is provided by 2 AirPort express stations, since iPhone &amp; Imac load instantantly.  During these issues speedtests on both Ipads are showing download speeds in the range of  44 mb/s. All of this leads me to believe there's nothing wrong with WiFi signal.
All mobile devices are running on IOS 7.1, loading apps is no issue, just loading sites is giving the problem
Any help or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated
    Kris

That's weird. Have you tried to reset the network settings on them?
Go to Settings > General > Scroll to bottom and Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Try and see if that helps.  You'll need to put your passwords back in but it may help

  • Reader Slow Loading?

    Hi,
Since getting Safari 5.0.1 with Reader, it seems Safari is much slower loading pages now.
I'm not certain that it is reader slowing page loading but going to the same sites in Firefox and other browsers the pages load much faster.
I'll open a page in Safari, say CNN, and it takes so much longer to load now and it looks like the page will not open until Reader has done it's job.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Empty your Safari cache more often. From your Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache.
Web pages include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. *These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down.* It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh.
*To delete Safari's icon using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
