Streaming from MBP to xbox360

I have tried Connect360, Playback, and now am currently using Rivet.  When I am streaming larger files (HD) to my xbox I get hiccups in my video every 7 mins. or so.  I have wireless N router,N adapter for xbox, and MBP is wireless N.
I Want to know if there's anything I can do with any of the devices to speed up my stream so it doesn't hiccup anymore.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Greetings,
I use Connect360 myself without issue between my Macbook Pro and my xBox on my Airport Extreme wireless network.  Your Airport card inside your MBP automatically adjusts its speed (frequency) and channel when you tell it to join a specific wireless network so there is nothing to do to speed up the connection on the Mac side.  You can check the speed and channel by holding down the option key while clicking on the Airport menu at the top right of the screen.
Couple of thoughts:
Streaming video is EXTREMELY taxing on networks, more so than just about anything else you do.  When you're streaming video don't run other programs on your computer that feed off the network (web browsers, chat, email, file sharing programs, etc.).   Keep in mind other computers or devices (cell phones, tablets, game consoles, etc) that use the network for internet access are also tapping into the network so they could be a factor as well.  If you have 2 other computers on the network playing games online or streaming music, they are fighting for the attention of the router.
Turn off sleep and hard disk sleep in Energy Saver Settings on the MBP. (This will impact battery life if you aren't running off the AC adapter)
Hardwire the xBox directly into the router.  I ran my xBox on the wireless adapter for some time and found I preferred the performance of ethernet.  Consider doing this as a test even if you don't want to keep it this way.  If it works then you know you have a problem with your router (update its firmware perhaps) or the wireless adapter.
Run WPA2 security on your router -- WPA2 is the preferred encryption protocol for Macs at this time.
Change the channel on your router -- most modern routers auto-detect for interference and choose a less crowded channel but it might be worth a shot, especially if you are in an area with lots of wireless traffic (if you see more than 6 other wireless networks in your Airport menu I call that lots, although these days…)
Have any friends with a Mac?  Have them bring it over and see if they also have the same issue with breaks in the video stream.  If so then this is most likely an issue with the router or the wireless adapter.
Hope that helps.

  • Streaming from MBP to Samsung TV WITH EXTERNAL SPKRS --AUDIO ISSUE

    Hel
Using the Mini-Display adapater, MINI Displayport TO HDMI ADAPTER, I have been able to stream live car race from MBP directly to my Samsung HD TV.
Streamed picture is wonderful. To get audio from the live stream to come thru the external speakers,  I used an audio cable (3.5mm pin that plugs to the MBP, with the RCA jacks plugged into the component's (the receiver) audio out sockets),  but still I  not yield the desired result.
Yesterday, I purchased an AUVIO® 6-Ft.Optical Audio Toslink™ Cable .  To test this new cable,  I live streamed an ESPN2 program  to the TV--I was pleased that the sound  did come thru the external speakers.    After a few mintues of ESPN2 streaming, I navigated to  YouTube but lost  the sound to the external speakers.  To troubleshoot, I returned to ESPN2 again,   for the live stream (thinking maybe YouTube has an issue).   Unfortuantely,  there was no sound to the external speakers.    Why it had worked properly only moments before and not now?  I turned everything off and started from the beginning.  No luck.
I went thru the MBP tools, settings, preferences, etc.    Is there   a setting I have overlooked?
Any and all help is appreciated
    Sincerely,
    FMW

OK, so I've done a couple things here and both point to the above post about having two devices doing AirPlay at once.
First things first....  I ran the Inssider tool and looked over my network.  My signal seems to always be between 50 and 60.  My router is on Ch 6 which seems to be the best choice.  There's one other network on that channel, but it's a very low signal strength.  The other ends of the spectrum are pretty well covered by other networks.
Does this shed any light on this problem?
Second - I hard wired my MacBook to the router, then screen shared to the Apple TV.  It was up for at least 15 minutes.  At some point, I looked over and it was no longer sharing, but the network *WASN'T* trashed like it normally gets.  So it possibly got dropped for some other reason.
Third - I forgot that I have an Apple Airport Express that I normally use to stream music to a radio in my garage.  However, this device can be used as a router.  So I set it up this way and created a 2nd network.  I only put the Macbook and the Apple TV on it.  I've been streaming continuously for about 35 minutes now with no issues.
So it would seem that there's a firmware issue with this router that won't allow one device to Airplay to another device.  Does anyone else have any other conclusions or suggestions?  Otherwise, looks like I'll be treating myself to some new hardware after Christmas.
Thanks very much for your help!

  • Streaming from iTunes while modem is downloading

I have a cable modem which I use to connect my iPad, Iphone or Macbook Pro to the AppleTV to the same network.
The question is: while my Macbook is downloading something from the Internet, does this fact affect the speed of the streaming from a movie in my Macbook's hard drive to the AppleTv?
In other words, is the streaming from MBP's hard drive to AppleTv being affected because the modem is downloading other files?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If your local network is performing properly, you shouldn't have any problems streaming to your Apple TV from your iTunes library at the same time as downloading a movie from the Internet. However if you have issues on your local network you may well see a slowdown in one or the other.

  • Loud popping streaming music from MBP to airport express

Streaming iTunes – airport express (air tunes) – av amp
Macbook Pro (MBP leopard) (all software updates installed)
AirPort Express Base Station 802. 11n (firmware 7.3.2)
    Hi all
I am having a problem when playing music over air-tunes, (optical out) every so often, irrespective of file type and continuously throughout the music being played, I get a very loud popping/cracking noise outputted through the speakers,
This noise is severe enough to be causing damage to my speakers, so is making air-tunes unusable.
I also have a Macbook (leopard up to date) that dose not have this problem, which suggests that its not a problem with airport but with my MBP.
    Things I have already tried.
Direct optical connection from MBP to av-amp (music plays fine)
Reinstallation of OSX 10.5.5 (full install e.g. reformat)
    Reset of express base station
Rollback firmware of base station to 7.3
Set wireless security to none from wpa2
    Tried all possible radio modes
Problem persists over both wireless and wired (gigabit) network cards on MBP
All programs off during testing except iTunes
Tried switching off processes in network utility (have not spent a lot of time on this as not sure/confident as to which are critical system processes).
It seems to me as this is happening with both network cards that this is not a
network hardware problem on the MBP but maybe a background process on MBP is intermittently some how causing a spike of interference.
Also leopard is a resent upgrade, I can’t be sure but I don’t think this problem
happened when I had osx 10.4 installed, certainly when I first setup air-tunes
under 10.4 the problem was not there.
Am about all out of ideas, so I would be very grateful for any input on this.
    Kind Regards
    Drew…

    Anybody out there any ideas???
or perhaps someone hear can point me in the right direction to get some technical support.

  • Apple TV: Sync with iMac & stream from PC/Vista?

Happy New Year to all --
I have my main iTunes library on my Mac (box iMac, not portable) upstairs, and I have been syncing that library to my Apple TV downstairs. The syncing occurs, and I can listen to my library through my speakers which are connected to my Apple TV. This is setup fine. The only thing I don't like is that the Apple TV's options for playback are very limited.
I have a subset of my library on my laptop PC (running Vista). As this is portable, I'd sometimes like to stream music from this PC to my remote speakers which are connected to my Apple TV. Then I can use the iTunes interface on the portable to make playlists, plan upcoming songs, etc. on the portable and have the music streamed to the Apple TV and out the speakers. This I cannot get to work consistently.
So, I want to sync to one computer and stream from another. I do not have to do this simultaneously of course, I just want the flexibility that the iTunes interface has to offer, closer to the listening area.
I have tried many, many things. Rarely I can get the PC's iTunes to recognize the Apple TV, but when it does, the streaming is unlistenable (consistent dropouts). Today I haven't been able to get iTunes to even recognize the Apple TV's existence. I have rebooted everything (incl network/router), made sure all SW is up to date, changed channels, made sure PC is looking for the Apple TV, made sure UDP 5353 is open, etc etc. to no avail. My network is 802.11g and the signal is strong everywhere.
I thought this was possible, even desirable, and I also thought that the days of lousy audio streaming was largely over, since video is now being streamed with some success. My network is busy (two tivos, three computers, PS3, Apple TV) but not using a lot of the bandwidth most of the time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

    Multicast rate.
The multicast rate determines the minimum data transfer speed allowable for a transfer to take place, setting a high value may well make a more robust network but it may simply never allow a transfer if this is too high. I have mine set at 2 Mbps (although I can't be sure you have such an option on your router - sorry I thought you were using an airport.
    Channel
I couldn't suggest a channel, it all depends on which channels those around you are using, you'll likely need to try a few options unless you actually know what all the other networks around you are using. Other devices (cordless phones, microwaves etc) can also cause interference.
Is it common to be able to stream to the ATV (i.e. see it in the remote speakers pull down menu at the bottom) but not have it recognized as a device in iTunes (i.e. in the left column)? That's what sometimes happens to me.
I wouldn't actually know, I've never had any problems with networking my tv's, although network requirements for the tv and airtunes are not the same, so I suppose it's entirely possible that airtunes will be available while you are unable to access the tv.

  • Deleting photo stream from iPad but not other devices

I created a photo stream last year to share pictures with my relatives. It shows up on my iMac, my wife's MBP and my iPad as well as the relatives computers and phones.  Now another relative has created a stream for this year and it currently appears on all of those devices.
I would like to delete the old photo stream from just my iPad  to free up some much needed space while leaving it on the other devices. I also want to keep receiving pictures in the new photo stream which appears to mean I cannot turn off iCloud. When I click edit and click on the X at the corner of the old photos stream, it says it is going to delete it from all devices.
How can I just delete the old one from just my iPad?

This is not possible as far as I know. The best option would be to save the photos from that photo stream to a computer using iPhoto or Aperture and then disband the photo stream (giving the other shared members plenty of notice so they can nab those photos to local storage as well).

  • Streaming from a Guest Account

    Hello,
I am wanting to have a friend watch a live stream from my mac connected with HDMI cable to my TV. I can get to safari, get to the web page, in this case ESPN2. However, live stream only gets as far as "loading." I never get it loaded.
So, I attempted to watch the stream using my account (main account) and it came thru beautifully. Is there a setting that allows users of the guest account to also connect to live streaming?
I have the guest account set restricted to certain apps (my mailbox, etc.) for personal reasons.
    Looking forward to reply.
    thank you

Hello, Teen Titan!!  OMG, I apologize for the extremely long delay.  After the streaming in March, April, have not streatmed since, except for this past weekend.  Managed  with the sound only from the MBP.
However, just yesterday  as your reply of April 4, 2011 suggests, I quit and re-opened Safari, but still no luck.  Must be some setting in my MBP that I am overlooking.  Reason I say this is because a friend of mine purchased for me the optical audio cable.  We streamed an ESPN2 site and beautiful sound from speakers!
Then, we went to another site, a YouTube site, but audio reverted back to sound coming  only from MBP.  Turned off  all equipment and turned on again.  Went to the ESPN2 streaming (thinking maybe it's a YouTube issue), but this time, ESPN2 streaming did not produce audio from MBP to the external speakers.   I don't understand why it streamed picture and sound  5 mintues earlier, but not again.
Thank you for your help!  I will troubleshoot more and if you have anymore to offer, please do so.

  • Airplay from MBP iTunes to aTV not working

    Greetings
For quite some time now I have not been able to stream from my MBP to my aTV using Airplay.  The aTV syncs perfectly with the iTunes library on my MBP.
In iTunes I can see the aTV option in the Airplay/remote speakers drop-down, but I select it the icon flashes blue for just a moment before returning to grey, and nothing is transmitted to the aTV.  I have checked and turned off any Airplay passwords I had on the aTV.
I'm not sure whether I'm actually supposed to see the option to stream Youtube videos to the aTV, but I don't.
I have an iPhone that has no problem streaming to the aTV on the same network.
    Any thoughts?

    Jul 10, 2012 9:58 PM (in response to Diana1138)
This just started happening to me on one of my macbook pros running OSX Lion.  However in Lion, Apple has decided to remove the "off" option from the IPv6 dropdown. You can get around this by issuing a couple commands via Terminal.app
    networksetup -setv6off ethernet
    networksetup -setv6off wi-fi
Turning off IPv6 via those commands fixed everything. Also, once you do this, the "off" option will start showing up in Network Preferences (should you ever need to change it back and forget the command).

  • Could you play a live stream from safari to apple tv without going through itunes?

could you play a live stream from safari to apple tv without going through itunes?

There is no way to stream Safari content, with or without iTunes, to your AppleTV.
The only way would be to use a mirroring feature given that you have an AppleTV 2nd gen or newer and a 2011 or newer MBP running mountain lion.
If not, some third party software like AirParrot can also gives you way to mirror your MBP display on the TV.

  • Streaming from icloud to ipad

    Hi,
Not sure if this has been asked before but...... I was wondering if it is possible to stream iCloud content (movies, or tv shows) directly to my Mac Book Pro rather than just streaming to my Apple TV? As my Mac has a monitor, I would sometimes like to use the MBP or even my iPad to view previously purchased content. Thanks in advance...

Hey james thanks for the quick response!
I tried the reset twice but it had no effect on the streaming from icloud.
The song still starts near the middle. The thing is it never streamed the entire song, I just got icloud early this week. so not really sure what restarting may have done, unless you suspected a glitch with my ipad playing the song.

  • Router speed for streaming from NAS to Windows to Hi-Fi

I've been advised to post this here rather than the iTunes for Windows forum it's turned into an Airplay question.
I have just purchased a Windows 8.1 tablet and one of the main things I want to use it for is to stream music from a NAS to my Airplay enabled Hi-Fi. I haven't got a NAS yet, but have tried pointing it to the iTunes library files and media on my desktop PC. This seems to work once I relocate the files, but when I play them, they play ok through the tablet, but when I switch it to play to my Hi-Fi, it breaks up every few seconds.
I'm wondering if this is because my router is not up to the job or streaming from my desktop to my tablet and then from the tablet to my Hi-Fi?
Wired connection is 100 Mbps, Wireless 54Mbps.

    Thanks
I know it’s difficult to do straight comparisons, and they have different OS, but  hardware wise this tablet would seem to stack up well against the latest iPads & iPhones, and even better compared to the iOS devices that were released when Airplay was launched. As this protocol is now widely used for HD Video, I would have thought most modern hardware could cope with music.
There are some similar problems discussed in this thread, so I’ll give them a go when I get home:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2703198?start=75&tstart=0
These are mostly router tweaks though, I think it’s more to do with the configuration of the tablet and my Laptop & PC seem to be working fine with Airplay.

  • Audio skips when streaming from the internet (pandora/grooveshark).

I'm using airport extreme, wired connection, to a macbook pro (2011) and mac pro (2009). audio skips on both devices when streaming from pandora or grooveshark. problem has persisted through system upgrades, clean installs etc... Problem persists through different web browsers (Firefox/chrome/safari)
Ironicaly, Itunes radio does not skip, neither does netflix.
I have seen COUNTLESS posts regarding this problem from many different APPLE users. I would love to see apple address this problem...

Your first step is to determine if there is an issue with this specific movie or if it's a universal problem.  Does ANYTHING from the MBP provide both sound and video?
Another thought is DRM coding but that should affect both video and audio.  If the movie has DRM coding and your television does not, then the movie won't play.  I'm not an expert but I don't think that that's your problem because you do get the video.

  • ICloud Match not streaming from my iMac

Perhaps I am missing something obvious, but my matched Itunes songs won't stream from my Imac. I can only play songs if I download them. I am able to download the songs, then play them, but I thought streaming was possible from desktops (i.e. non ios devices). My MBP streams plays/streams my non-downloaded Itunes match songs without a problem. I tried turning match on and off, checked there are no parental controls etc. Thanks for any help out there.

  • Apple TV blurry black screen when streaming from iMac?

My Apple TV shows a black blurry screen when trying to stream from my 2013 iMac.  ATV works perfectly with iPad/iPhone but not iMac.  Audio from iMac is fine, just no video.  Both products are entirely up to date as far as software goes and restarting both + wifi hasn't achieved any results.  Any **** would be appreciated, thanks.

I've found out it is an Mavericks 10.9.2 and 10.9.3 failure! Online I have found more people with the very same Problem, and all of them are running 10.9.2/3  - ON THEIR IMACS (different Models)!
My Apple TV and Streaming Services were functioning just fine 2-3 Monts ago, the only thing that changed was Updating my iMac Mid 2011 to 10.9.2 -> Then i've got the black screen when streaming, could not activate DisplayMirroring, when i played something in itunes or VLC the sound went through AppleTV but no video.
Then have checked it with iPad 2 = OK, iPhone 5 = OK, MBP Early 2008 with SnowLeopard = OK,
so i decided to Install an 10.9 on an external drive - and guess what? It works! Tried to Update (ComboUpdate) to 10.9.1 and it was still OK, got the BLACK SCREEN after ComboUpdate 10.9.2, and tried to Install 10.9.3 just to see if it will solve the problem -> NOT
    this must be a joke!

    Hall Palm Desert,
if your Mac monitor has Thunderbolt ports, and the PC monitor is on the end of the daisy chain, then you might be able to do it by connecting your PC monitor’s VGA cable to a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (e.g. Apple, NewerTech), connecting that cable’s Mini DisplayPort end to one of the Mac monitor’s Thunderbolt ports, and then connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the other port on the Mac monitor and your MacBook Pro.
