Stuck on backup while updating iPad2 to ios 5.1

I want to update my Ipad2 to the latest ioS from 4.3.2. I sync to iTunes on a window pc and every time I initiate the update, it freezes during backup. I have already backed up by rightclicking on my device on iTunes. Not getting anywhere fast. Any ideas? Anyone? and please avoid being too technical. I am a newbie

Try a restore. Back up your info first the restore it. One of the fixes for this iOS build was enhancements to the sound of movies and such. Maybe the update got corrupted somehow.

Just updated our iPad2 to iOS 7, and all my photos in camera rolls are gone, can't locate them anywhere. Were they just deleted, or is there a way to find them? Did not have iCloud account, so not backed-up there.

We're you backing up to a computer using iTunes? If so, restore the backup from there.

  • HT4623 Error message on trying to update iPad2 to iOS 6.1.3

Have tried to update to iOS 6.1.3 on iPad2.   All seems to go ok untIl the status bar is about 3/4 full, then hangs until error message "an error has occurred during download".   Have do,me the update with norm les on my iPhone.  Mt wife has updated her iPad mini, also without problem ( as she smugly keeps reminding me). Anyone any ideas about how to save my pride and successfully update? Please!

What iOS version are you currently running?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

  • Trying to update Ipad2 from IOS 5.1 to IOS 6.1 but I get an error 9006

I'm trying to update my Ipad2 from IOS 5.1 to IOS 6.1 but I get an error 9006.  I've tried updating several times but I get the same networking error.  I've tried disabling my computer and router firewalls, and made sure I have up to date Itune program, I even run the diagnostics on itunes and comes up that all connections are ok.  I also tried connecting directly from my modem, I still got the same result.  Now my Ipad has just the Itunes logo and a usb cable that's showing on it's screen.  I'm hoping I can get help with this because it seems like my Ipad is un-usable in this state.  Thanks in advance.
PS: I also have an Apple TV 3 that's asking me to update, I run the update but it failed and asked me to run the update again.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

A third generation iPod touch can't be updated past 5.1.1. If you don't know what device you have, append the last three characters of its serial number to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= and load the page.

  • Iphone 4 stuck 1/3 while updating iOS 7.1.2

I tried everything already! It won't turn off or reset.
It's been stuck for 16 hours now.
I'm just waiting for the battery to die, but it doesn't seem to continue updating.
    HELP!!!!!!!

I have a similar problem. I have a iPhone 4s and today I received a notification to update to iOS 7.1.2 so I started to install it, it failed the first time cause I didn't have enough space in my phone, i deleted a few apps and then tried again. While it was installing, the apple logo appeared and then the iTunes logo with the charging cable appeared too, meaning that my phone was (is) in recovery mode. I tried pressing home and unlock/lock button at the same time until the Apple logo appears again but it didn't work, it sent me back to the recovery mode screen.
I tried using Tinyumbrella to exit recovery mode but it didn't work.
I tried restoring it but I got unknown error 3194 and it didn't work.
I'm desperate to solve this, I've been looking for answers for almost 4 straight hours.
I'd appreciate it a lot if someone could help me ASAP.
    thanks

  • Update iPad2 to IOS 4.3.5 cannot save backup to PC

When trying to do update from iTunes, the backup abort stating that it cannot save to the pc. Normal sync works for apps etc. Only firmware upgrade doesn't work. Manually backup also doesn't work.

Apple is still showing this from what I see on the downloads website. Try this.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#iOS 5.1.1
If that link doesn't open and it looks like it won't open right to the iOS 5.1.1 download - go here and type in iOS 5.1.1 in the search bar.

  • HT4623 Updated iPad2 to ios 7.0.4. iPad restarts and wants to go through setup. I get to the "Set Up iPad" screen; it is asking to restore or setup as new iPad. I pick "Restore from iTunes Backup". I do the restore, but it loops back again to setup

the iPad seems to be in a loop between setup and restore.  Not sure if I did something wrong, maybe selecting a wrong option after the ios update.

    You are most welcome

  • Iphone doesnt backup while updating to iOS 5.0

    Hello,
When updating to 5.0 iTunes says it has to backup your phone.
When the backup starts it stays put for hours without showing any form of progress.
The "Backing up Iphone" window does not change, no progress at all.
    What can i do?

Same issue. my 32gb iPhone took over an hour on the back up alone, and will all the server failures it took me 10 hours to get upgraded, as I had to back it up over and over.
I started my wifes iPhone overnight and it just hung until the PC rebooted for a windows update. So I restarted it this morning and had only a sliver of green an hour and a half later. Her's is only 16GB and the back up moves MUCH MUCH slower than mine did. I have tried all the mentioned steps, reboots, restarts, even a new cable, but still its so slow it will never complete.

  • Stuck in backup while trying to download ios5

While trying to download ios5 last night, I got stuck in the backup process.  10 hours with no progress.  I aborted  just before the battery drained.  Today I am syncing my ipad 1 first and am 3 hours into the backup process with little progress.  Should it take this long?  Any sugestions?

    Hello:
It took me eight tries before I successfully updated to iOS 5.  That was yesterday when Apple's servers were, to say the least, overloaded.
Not particulalry helpful, but I think you should keep trying.
I have an iMac so my platform is different from yours.

  • IPhone 4s went into recovery mode while updating to newest IOS

While I was updating my iPhone 4 tonight to the newest IOS, it stopped and gave me the 'this iphone is in recovery mode' messagae and the only option was to restore it to factory settings.  I am running the newest OS on my imac 10.9.2 and my iphone is not jacked.  I bought it from Apple/AT&T and it has only been backed up to itunes via my iMac since I bought it.  I am frustrated but at this point, I'll never know what caused this.
When I clicked restore, the screen said it would erase all data and load the newest IOS.  Assuming it is a successful restore, can I sync my iPhone to my last back up to get all my data back?  If not, what are my options?
    thanks for any help.

  • Error message while updating iPod to iOS 4

I was trying to update my iPod touch, but an error message popped up and it says:
"An error occurred while backing up this iPod. Would you like to continue to update this iPod without backup?
Continuing without backup will result in the loss of all contents on this iPod"
If I continue, will I be able to sync all of my content back on the iPod?

I had same message (several times) trying to update 2gen itouch. I said yes to continue w/o backup and it appeared to be updating..... for 8 hours (I left running overnight). I finally gave up. Have checked all the FAQs and troubleshooting, but can find nothing. Copmputer is up to date with SP3, latest iTunes version, no firewall issue. Don't know what to do next....... any suggestions???? PLEASE....

  • Failure to backup while updating 3GS to iOS5 - now iTunes doesn't recognize iPhone!

Hi, I'm trying to update my 3GS to iOS5. Working on a brand-new Macbook Pro with Lion 10.7.2. Made sure I had the newest iTunes (10.5), synced my phone, transferre purchases to the computer, backed up manually for good measure. Downloaded the iOS5 update with no problem, and started the update process. Seemed to be going slowly but surely through the "backup" step of the update process. I left for five or ten minutes, and came back to a possible disaster:
    - computer had gone to sleep (guess I could have changed preferences, but I assumed that the update-in-progress would keep the computer awake)
    - iPhone screen shows the "plug USB into iTunes" graphic
    - when I woke up the computer, it showed an error message - upgrade failed. I'm pasting the text from the iPhone Updater Log below... it ends with "Restore Error 2009."
    - iPhone no longer shows up as a device in iTunes (or iPhoto). Tried closing and opening iTunes, disconnecting and reconnecting iPhone from USB port, and moving to second USB port. None of these worked. iPhone screen continues to display the "connect USB to iTunes" graphic. I found some relevant lines in the "all messages" log - pasting those below too.)
Anything I can do, short of bring both computer and phone to the Apple Store? (The phone is past warranty but I have AppleCare for the new computer)
Does the failure to back up mean that there is no previous backup I can get to? Any way to check if there's a working backup on the computer without it recognizing the iPhone?
All my apps, contacts, calendar items, music and photos are on my computer, so at least it seems that my data is not all lost. But the phone-to-computer connection doesn't seem to be coming back. Wonder if restarting computer could get it to recognize iPhone, but afraid of doing any more damage.
    Any help appreciated! Thanks,
    Adam

    Here are Apple Steps:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/

  • Updated iPad2 to iOS 6 and lost all pictures and videos

I updated my roomate's iPad 2 days ago, following the instructions of a friend with years of Apple experience.
He explained that I would need to install iTunes on my laptop (a newer Asus running Win7) and that just plugging the iPad in would start an automatic process of backing up and updating.
Being from the PC world, I wanted to make sure we would be safe. I asked if I needed to copy pictures to my laptop or pc first, and he said that iTunes defaults to backing up first, then running the update.
Of course this makes sense, but erring on caution, I was very specific in wanting to make absolutely sure.
So I get the laptop ready. I plug in the iPad, it's immediately discovered and a window pops up saying there is an update for the iPad, and would I like to update now.
I pressed the button yes, or ok, I don't remember exactly what the vernacular was.
The lengthy process began.... with a status bar and activity..... took about 20 minutes.
After it was done, it said so. I don't remember the dialog box wording at that point exactly.
I pushed the home button on the iPad and it had the normal grey lock screen, opened it, and all of her apps were there, her email showed she had email,
but when i looked in the pictures folder, it was empty.
Thought perhaps they would appear later from iTunes. ( I didn't know at this point that she had never backed up or used iTunes for anything other than the initial activation and for her old iPhone that died several months ago)
Called my Apple friend, he said maybe I unplugged the iPad before it was able to restore things to the iPad.
So I started iTunes, attached the iPad , right clicked on "Tiffany's ipad" and went into the Backup section. There it says that the iPad was never backed up on this computer in bold text. And the option to restore from backup is grayed out.
I call my expert friend again. He has me look for backup files on the laptop, utilizing an application called 'iExplore'. went to 'device' section and there is a box that will show all backup files found on the pc. That box was empty.
What's tragic, is, this poor lady, unbeknownst to me, had been using her iPad as a picture and video dump for ALL of her child's pictures and vids for over a year. Without telling me. She is not a technical person.
Had I known this, I would have backed it up manually myself, before the update and all along. I would have made her do it. But I had no idea. I assumed she was plugging it in to her Dell Laptop.. but she never did.
I've run 2 'recovery' programs I got from online that scan for deleted files, but they don't show any of the hundreds of pictures and videos she had, Im sure because it was wiped, not deleted.
All attempts to locate a large backup file on my laptop have come up empty.
She is extremely and unbelievably broken up about this, as am I. I'm furious with Apple for not making the BACKUP stage of the process more tenacious, and with more pop up warnings so that this kind of thing cannot happen. Had I seen that, I would have used an application to MANUALLY copy her stuff.... even though at the time I had NO IDEA she was using her iPad as her ONLY repository for all of her precious media.
Folks, this is a life changing horror for her, and me. I love this woman's little boy as my own, and as a single mom, she was depending on me as a friend in this matter. If I cannot retrieve these images and vids, I fear she will never forgive me, as I'm the 'tech guy' who always has had the answers for everything in the past, and failed her on the most important tech issue in her life, her little boy's life in pictures.
Please, where can I send this iPad for forensic recovery of these images.
I've powered the iPad down until further notice to avoid writing additionally on the internal flash memory.
    Thanks,

Doesn't sound like you have iCloud? If not, then no, you are out of luck....

  • While updating iPad2 from 4.3.3 to 4.3.5 iTunes says 'Network Error' after downloading the software

    Hi
When it connects to my new iPad2 (stock 4.3.3), iTunes says there is an update available (4.3.5). When I hit 'update' and check subsequent boxes, it takes 45-50minutes the download the software update. Just when it says 'processing...', it suddenly stops and a pop-up says "network error: please check if your computer is connected to the internet". I have disabled the virus scan (as heard on some other forum), but the problem persists. There is no error code. This is a fresh installation of iTunes on a Windows Vista device. And I have tried over multiple internet connections including WiFi and Ethernet on 4MBPs connections.

One update: I have tried reinstalling iTunes, changing and changing the connecting cable, for what it was worth. No change. As soon as the download finishes and the update process begins, it says 'Network Error..", Just does not make sense, Apple. Why would you not want your devices to update without tethering them to another PC or Mac? Or if we have to, then why cant we download the update and store it on a local drive if repeated trials are necessary.
So far an extremely painful experience.
