Stumped with a MS-6135 Dual Slot2 Xeon. Can't use more than 1 CPU at a time!

Hi.
I have a MS-6135 board and I am not having much luck getting it to work.   Basically both windows and Linux both say that the Board itself is not dual capable and just 'see' one of the CPUs installed.   On linux, during the bootup on a 2.6.13 kernel with SMP support it says the board does not support SMP.  On windows, I downloaded sisoft sandra and it says that the board is not MP compatible.   This is the same if i have both in the board, or if i run one CPU and a terminator.   When i tried the terminator route, i did it twice, once with each CPU and it was able to boot fine with either.
The CPUs that I have are P3Xeon 500/512.   One of them is SL2XU and the other is SL3D9.  The steppings are different, but apparently they were both pulled from the same compaq server (I got them from ebay).  At first i was thinking that this might be my problem.  But when i run my other dual Xeon board (intell C440GX+) with a single CPU, linux clearly identifies it as dual capable, but just running a single CPU.
In all cases, the bootup screen identifies corretly what processors are installed.  So when they are both installed it says Xeon x2, and when only one it identifies as Xeon.   The hardware monitor also gives me a temperature for all installed CPUs.   Interestingly enough, so does lm_sensors in linux.
Some things i've tried:
 - All the different bios versions on the MSI website, including the v2.0 bios thats actually for the later revison board.
 - Swapping the CPUs around.
 - I also tried a pair of P3Xeon 700/1024 'cascades' from my other machine, but it won't post with them either.
Incidentally, with all my flashing of the bios, it now only detects 256Mb of the 1024 that i have installed (4x256 PC133), and i would quite like to get back my memory as well!  Next step will be to try going back to version 1.3 of the bios.
Other things of note.  I'm using a 300W ATX PSU.   Right now i'm just testing so apart from a 20Gb hard drive and a very low end 8mb graphics card there is nothing else apart from a couple of fans using the power.   This is plugged into the first ATX connector on the board (closest to CPUs).
In Linux, i've also tried a lot of kernel options with no luck, for example 'append="noapic apci=noirq".  Linux is the operating system that I want to use, but I installed XP on another disk to see if was just a bad linux configuration that was causing this probloem.
Basically, Linux finds a local APIC, finds CPU0, but then says 'SMP motherboard not detected.  Brought up 1 CPUs'
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm at    right now.

If i could work out that i could address both CPUs once i ifx the bios then I would order a BIOS upgrade chip.   But right now i would prefer not to spend additional money unless i have good confidence that this would be the case, especially as I understand the 550mhz unit is the fastest one that the board supports?

Can one use more than one hard drivewith time machine ?

Yes, if you have the Mountain Lion operating system installed on the Macs that you want to back up.
I don't know what the maximum number of hard drives might be, but I have tested with 4 and it works fine. Time Machine automatically rotates the backups when you do this, so drive #1 will be backed up first, then #2, #3, etc. and then back to #1, etc.

Can I use more than one iTunes account with my apple TV?

That depends what you mean. If you mean can you purchase from more than one iTunes account on the Apple TV, then the answer is no. If you mean can you stream from more than one iTunes library, which use different accounts, then the answer is yes, so long as they both use the same ID and password for homesharing.

  • Can I use more than one bluetooth device at a time with my iphone4

Can I use more than one bluetooth device at a time with my iphone4

    Anthony
I have a Plantronics 975 earpiece that works very well with my Razr.  I
just got a Panasonic KX-TG7873S phone system for my home, it has a
"Link-to-Cell" cellular convergence solution, from what I understand it is
just Bluetooth enabled.  I have paired both device with my Razr.  In
settings, Bluetooth setting, both device show.  But only one device can
connect at a time.  If my Plantronics is connected and I choose the
Panasonic device, the Plantronics device disconnects and the Panasonic
device then says it is connected.  Both devices work when they
are connected.  Is it because they are both "headsets"?
So, to have to remember to connect to one or the other device, depending on
weather I am coming or going is not practical.

  • How come you can not use more than 126GB of a 1.5TB diskdrive with LabVIEW Real Time?

How come you can not use more than 126GB of a 1.5TB diskdrive with LabVIEW Real Time?
This is only 8.3% of the available disk drive space!
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/E7E2F5657B6026358625750B007201A6?OpenDocument
National Instrument's solution is either reformat you drive to less than 126GB or replace the drive with one less than that size.
Please NI, tell me you are going to fix your LabVIEW Real Time soon, and that we won't have to wait for LabVIEW RT 9.2.1 in 2011 for this one to be fixed.
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/90/Hard_drive_capacity_over_time.svg
Drives as large as 126GB or more have been around since about mid 2002.  That's about 7 Years now and LabVIEW Real Time STILL can't use drives larger that 126GB!  Please NI.  Do something.
We deserve fixes to the old versions of LabVIEW RT.  How about updates to LabVIEW RT.  Such as 7.0.2, 7.1.2, 7.6.2, 8.0.2, 8.2.2, 8.6.2.
We don't need new features or versions of LabVIEW RT such as 9.0 until we have some of bugs fixed in the existing versions.

NI is not making the Real Time OS in house. I do not remember which firm that is making it. Anyway you are allowed to use a hard drive that has been partitioned. And 126GB is some space is it not? I remember Bill Gates declared one time that 640Kb ram should be more than enough for any PC application also in the future
    Coq Rouge (formerly t06afre),
The RealTime OS is an NI Product that is purchased from NI.
NI may or may not outsource design, developement, or manufacturing of the products that it sells under its own Company name.
For this reason I would be concerned if I were a PXI Embedded Controller designer/developer in the United States.
Yes, 126GB is some space.  I see that there are now 2TB drives available.  126GB would be 6.3% of a new 2TB drive.  Should we all be happy with being able to use 6.3% of the available drive space.  Moore's Law seams to be alive and well.  Drives larger than 126GB have been readily available for 5 or 6 Years.  This should not be a surprise to NI.  Why don't they do something about it.
Thanks for the trivia on Bill Gates.  I must have missed that one since I don't try to keep up with Microsoft.  I believe that he is a wonderful person and he and his family are doing wonders for the world in their "retirement".   The world needs more like him.
What I do remember is Steve Jobs telling us that we would never need more that 128MB and that we would never to need to do anymore software development because everything was already in the "ToolBox".

  • Can I use more than one html5/js animation produced with Flash/createjs in a website?

Hi, I am producing some animations with Flash that will be delivered in html5/js trough createjs. The trouble is that, after including the first animation in my html website, the rest of the animations are overwriting with the first one, therefore, if I attemp to insert a second animation in my website, it will actually replace the first animation I already had placed...
I have already tried the following:
    - change the default canvasID for another one
    - change the resources and Javascript name spaces in Createjs export settings
    - change manually the name of the functions (lib, img, cjs) in the Javacript file
None of these seem to fix the problem. So, I am now wondering if is actually possible to insert more than one animation in a website....
I would really appreciate a quick answer, as I am working on a project with a very tight timing, and really need to sort this out a.s.a.p.
Thank you very much in advance for the help.

    then you made some mistake.
start with two different flas.  one with a red rectangle on stage and the other with a blue rectangle on stage and nothing else.  publish your html and js files.
combine the two into one and, if you have a problem, post the code from  your one html file and your two js files.

provided you install the correct "USB Drivers for Blackberry" on both PCs, and provided you have not encrypted the microSDcard,
you can use your Blackberry device as a regular microSD card reader, and access whatever files are stored in it, on any of these two PCs.

I Thought I read some where that I can use multiple Apple ID on the same device with the new OS coming out this fall?  I'm wondering if this is possible or not. I have an iPad mini and it's under my Apple ID but I would like to be able to use both mine and my husbands.

    Maybe.

  • Can I use more than 1 backup drive with Time machine?

I wanted to run this proposed setup by this board, before I ordered HDs:
For my Mac which is located at the office:
I want to use 2 internal 500GB HDs.
Drive 1: System Disk & main File storage
Drive 2: Primary Time Machine Backup Volume. Backing up Daily.
I would also like to have an external HD, that I can keep at home, but bring into the office, say once a month to have an additional backup that I can take home with me in case of a catastrophic event such as if the office would burn down. Sort of a backup of the backup, just in case.
Can Time machine switch back and forth between 2 backup drives, or will I have to do manual backup to the external drive. It would be nice to have Time machine do it, since it will only be copying modified files.

I believe TM can do it. you'll have to go to system preferences and click on "change TM drive" every time you switch. However, I would recommend a different type of backup for your less frequent backups. use CCCloner or Superduper! to make a bootable clone of your system once a month. I'm not sure about CCCloner but superduper can do it by updating only the files that have been changed so it shouldn't take too long.

  • Can I use more than 1 camera with EOS utility simultaneously?

I have to manage 5 canon cameras to make them shots simultaneously.
Is it possible to do this?
    Thanks.

I can't think of a way to do it. You'd need to have a signal go to 5 ports on a computer or hub at the same time which to the best of my limited knowledge isn't a normal operation. I suspect you could do it with things like Pocket Wizards or by modifying 5 wired remote cable releases to be operated by one's button.

  • Can I use more than one AirPort Express to deal with access problems on my system?

my house unfortunately has wall-boards which have a layer of tin foil  on  them, which is great when you are looking for cheaper heating bills, but is absolutely awful when trying to install Wi-Fi!

Yes you can, you could either run cat 5 cable to each one and have them as seperate wii networks or do as I do and use the as range extenders.
    See http://www.apple.com/uk/airport-express/
Extend an existing Wi-Fi network’s range.
If you already have a wireless network in your home and want to extend its range,AirPort Express can help. Just place it in range of your primary base station — anAirPort Extreme, AirPort Time Capsule or another AirPort Express — and near the area where you want your wireless connection. Launch the easy-to-use AirPort Utility app on your iOS device or Mac, and you’re mere minutes away from long-range Wi-Fi enjoyment.

  • HT201250 can I use more than one drive with Time Machine i.e. one for just music, one for photos, etc.?

Can I use multiple hard drives for backing up specific folders in Time Machine?

You can use only one drive at a time as a TM backup destination, though you can switch among as many drives as you like. They'll all back up the same set of files, unless you keep changing your exclusion list (which I wouldn't recommend.)
