Su doesn't work anymore but sudo works

Hi all,
I normally use my standard user account but when I'm installing with macports I routinely "su" into root to do things.
Today I went on my machine and noticed that "su" wouldn't work. Before anyone decides to tell me that I don't need to use "su", I realize that but I use it for my own purposes.
From the system log I am seeing this each time "su" fails:
su[1376]: pam_authenticate: Permission denied
What is interesting is that doing a "sudo su" works, and I'm able to do all of my admin duties that way.
I have a feeling something messed up my bash profile but not totally sure. Has anyone else run into this issue?

I'll clarify: I'm using this install as a server and this is why I have 2 admin accounts on it. The original account is my own; the one I created when I first installed OS X. I then enabled System Admin (root) so that is the other admin account. After installing MacPorts I have been running the system as a multi-user webserver. I occasionally log in as root to do maintenance and upgrades. I have found that it's easier to use the SysAdmin account in certain situations because of permissions issues and ease of installing upgrades.
I'll often log in under my username and then su to root. Recently (yesterday) I noticed that "su" didn't work anymore when I used my normal username.
There are sometimes that I will log onto the machine as System Admin and usually via the terminal (console) I can log in as any of the other accounts by doing
su <username>
this also doesn't work anymore. I get the error:
shell-init: error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: Permission denied
I have two servers set up this way. One works the way it should, the other one has this problem. The only difference I can see is in roots bash profile but I'm not sure why they are different on each machine.
Also when logged in as System Admin, I should be able to turn off "allow user to administer computer" on my regular account but it's grayed out. On the other similarly configured machine, under the same conditions, I can. I'm not sure why I can do it on one and not the other.
I've tried turning off enable root via Directory Utility but that didn't fix the issue.

Printing or even print preview on FF results in a blank page. Tried updating the "Add On" but that didn't do anything either. May have to give up on using FF. Are the other iPods models, same version as yours. The 2 New FM Tx may need a new iPod software, which you can update via iTunes.

Okay, you are correct the call is not supposed to ring in. Have you done any troubleshooting on the phone? First off, try power cycling the phone. Turn the phone off, then back on again. If that does not work, then try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. See if that changes things. Is the caller using the exact number that you blocked, or is it possible they are using another number, or have restricted the Caller ID?

As fizzDripper suggests, contact the SIM card provider. How to make an unsupported SIM work on your phone is not Apple's problem.

Owns IPhone4S, got "drown" during typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan 11/2013); doesn't work anymore but unit still looks brand new, what to do?

I have an iPhone unit - Iphone 4S, had it since 2012 through a local telecommunications provider (Globe Phils). My unit which has a 16G memory was running on IOS 7. When typhoon Yolanda struck our city (Tacloban) my iPhone 42 was one among the "casualty". I couldn't save it on time when sea water rushed into our house, taking my family by surprise. I was using my iPhone 4s to monitor news and weather update at that time. When the power in our place went out, i unconsciously put the unit on top of our dining table, unaware that the storm surge will reach our place (about 5km from the city proper but about a km from the nearest shoreline). While the water was still chest high i remember my phone and tried searching for it. i used my feet/toes literally to find it on the ground (floor) until i finally reached for it in one of the rooms downstairs. When i finally got hold of it, it was really, really soak in water and mud (yes the water was muddy, learning later on that it was sea water that drown some of the houses in our city).
I sun dried it immediately. I tried having it repaired in Manila after about two weeks since the storm, but the repair center said that it was beyond repair.
My iPhone 4S looks good as new, no scratch whatsoever (i covered it with skin in all the time i was using it until Yolanda came). yet it doesn't work. A said reality.
What should i do with the unit? I have already a new unit iPhone 6+.

There really isn't much to say. Water damage isn't covered by Apple's warranties.
Total submersion in muddy seawater will cause the components to corrode terribly. It needed to be flushed out before the seawater had any chance to dry - the salts & impurities are what corrode the components. Washing in pure clean water may have helped at the time but 2 years after the event is far too long to expect that to work.
The repair centre are probably correct - it is dead & it would be simper to replace the entire unit, sorry.
Did you have backups in iCloud or iTunes? If those are safe you can restore the data to another device, otherwise that will be unreadable on the device.
Your only option would be to contact your insurance company or possibly the company that you purchased it from but I expect typhoons may not be covered by many insurance policies or warranties.

I'm more baffled now! I created a couple of new accounts (one admin, one standard) and tried them. Both had the same outcome:
1. Started Safari.
2. Went to http://news.bbc.co.uk
3. Clicked link to display a video news clip (was one about dummies!).
4. BBC News Player window popped up, asking if I wanted Real Player or Windows Media. Chose Real Player.
5. Window refreshed with the correct video clip.
6. Quit and restarted Safari and tried again. OK.
7. Quit and restarted Safari and tried again. Not it fails persistently. (By fail I mean the player window comes up but the video clip is only a 3-second clip of a BBC logo.)
I tried the second new account and similarly. For the first few goes it works properly. After a few goes it fails.

Display ethernet doesn't find IP, but does work with manual IP

My MacBook Pro is connected to my thunderbolt display. Recently the display ethernet stopped working. When I set the setting on 'Using DHCP' it doesn't find an IP address. I can select 'Using DHCP with manual address' and choose a random IP address and it works fine. The wifi also works fine (so that does find an IP address using DHCP...).
Any ideas how to solve this? Is it a mac or a router problem?

Where are you trying to log in? You should be able to change your ID at http://appleid.apple.com - can you log in there?
Before you change your ID you should log out of the iTunes Store and on any devices which are logged into iCloud. Then once you've changed it you can log back in with the new ID. (Your iCloud synced data will disappear from the device when you do this but will reappear when you sign back in - give it time).
If you are unable to sign into http://appleid.apple.com you will need to contact Support. Go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com . [TV@Master] TV Tuner worked fine but quit working

I would like to ask somebody to help me here. I own a MSI TV@nywhere Master. I installed the card and the software right out of the box and everything worked out fine. TV and Radio receptions were very good. I have a Dell Optiplex GX110 Pentium III with 1.0 GHz running Windows XP Professional with service pack 2. I believe after one day of automatic updates the TV tuner quit working. I get an error message "InterVideo?WinDVR Application has encountered a problem and needs to close". Since them I have uninstalled the card, remove all drivers and proceeded to reinstall the card. By the way, the Radio still works fine. I have a NVidia graphics card. What could have cause this problem? The TV worked fine before. Any suggestions?

if thet don`t work the problem migth be Codec Related ... try unistalling any codec packs and see if thet helps (there were problem with some Quick Time codecs installed by older versions of nero and nimo codec packs)
... or you could try DScaler ... Best image quality ... but no way to use the remote at the same times as it mutes sound

Exchange 2013- Outlook will stop working intermittently but OWA works that time

Hello everyone. Hope someone can help me with this issue. We are experiencing a strange issue with our exchange 2013 server. We only have one exchange 2013 server and it is up to the CU2 level. The issue is sometimes the outlook clients
will stop working and the only way to fix this issue is by restarting the server . I tried restarting the exchange services but it didn't fix the issue. The outlook web access will work without any issue during this time. My research indicates
that the exchange server is getting some kind of disconnection/timeout from the Active directory. I can see the following event logs on the exchange server:

Hi,
According to your description, your Outlook client intermittently cannot work. I recommend you try to use RPC trace log to find the root cause.
Additionally, I recommend you update to Exchange 2013 sp1 and then check if the issue still can be reproduced.

Captivate 5 - links are working locally but not working on server - urgent please

Hi, I'd really appreciate your quick help !
I have created a landing page in captivate 5 which has links to the different lessons - also done in captivate. all exported as swf and html.
I've used 'Open URL or file' and chose 'new' to open them in a new window, and unchecked the checkbox that says 'continue playing the project'.
on my computer after publishing, the project works just fine. when i've uploaded it to my server, the external links to the different lessons are not working.
PLEASE urgen assistant - is very much appreciated.
my files are btw in dropbox, if one of u has a moment to look at it.

my files sometimes load and sometimes don't!
when I place the url on the current webpage (where the index is) - the files load.
when i click them from the index file, a new window opens up but the files don't load.
