Suddenly iTunes does not open automatically when I connect Ipod

Hi,
iTunes used to open automatically when I connect my Ipod but now it does not although I did not change anything to my system.
In place of iTunes I now have the Windows 7 choice dialog in which iTunes does not appear.
How come?

Open iTunes when this iPod is connected: has always been checked
I thought you said there was no such option above?
and nothing else
Okay. Head to the Start menu and choose the *Control Panel* and when it comes up choose *Hardware and Sound* from the list of options. Next choose *Change default settings for media or devices*. Scroll down to the bottom where you will find an entry for Apple iPod. Go ahead and change its action to "Take no Action." Any luck there?
I'm not quite sure why iTunes isn't opening upon connection, but we'll see where we can take this. I would start with removing iTunes and re-installing again using these instructions.

  • ITunes does not open automatically when I connect my iPhone 4.

Yes......I have checked off the necessary box on the "home page".
iTunes DOES open when I connect my iPod.
    Any ideas?

plug your phone into iTunes, check the box to prevent syncing, unplug the phone, plug it back in, then uncheck the box again, then disconnect and shut down iTunes, plug in your phone and it should automatically open

    1. open up applications, and right click the itunes icon.
    2. select 'show package contents'
    3. open the contents folder
    4. open the resources folder
    5. scroll down until you find the ItunesHelper icon.
    6. Now open up your system preferences.
    7. select accounts
    8. select login items
    9. now drag the ItunesHelper icon into the login items screen
    10. This will now put the ituneshelper app into the startup items.

  • When I connect my iphone to my iMac, iTunes does not open automatically

When I connect my iphone to my iMac, iTunes does not open automatically, even though I have the "open iTunes when this phone is connected" option checked. I'm on the latest Snow Leopard with iTunes 10.4 and use an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.4.  I think the problem began with the latest iTunes update.

Found the answer in another discussion! Here's what worked:
"I also had the same problem, iTunes 10.4 wouldn't launch when connecting iPhone 3GS.
I unchecked "Launch iTunes when this iPhone is connected", restarted, launched iTunes and connected iPhone, rechecked "Launch iTunes when this iPhone is connected".  I was asked if I wanted to install iTunes helper and said yes.  All works again."

    Hey sebasac,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with iTunes on a Mac. Let’s see if we can isolate this issue by starting iTunes in safe mode:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430
There are several ways in which an add-on can cause iTunes to act erratically, such as those listed below:
    - Loss of iTunes functionality, such as the Visualizer.
    - Distortion or irregularity in the iTunes interface.
    - Slow performance.
    - iTunes won't open or quits unexpectedly.
    - You see an alert while syncing stating "... cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."
If you notice any of the above symptoms or other unusual behavior, you can disable any plug-ins not manufactured by Apple by opening iTunes in Safe Mode. This is done by holding down the Option and Command keys (on Mac OS X) or holding down the Shift and Control keys (on Windows) while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see the following dialog before iTunes finishes starting up:
"iTunes is running in Safe Mode. Visual plug-ins you have installed have been temporarily disabled."
If the above does not resolve your issue, I’d like to isolate further by testing in another user account:
Isolating an issue by using another user account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4053
    Symptoms
When isolating issues and/or troubleshooting software issues in OS X, you might want to use a different user account. Learn how to use this technique to narrow down the cause of an issue.
    Resolution
The issue at hand may simply be caused by a bad preference setting or user-specific data file. With proper isolation, you can avoid time-consuming and inappropriate troubleshooting methods.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • ITunes does not start automatically when iPod is connected

iTunes used to start automatically when I connected iTunes. It no longer does. Can I fix that?
    Dave

Connect your iPod and open iTunes. Towards the bottom of the iPod screen, there are four check boxes. The top one says "Open iTunes when iPod is connected." Check that box and click apply. If it is checked, uncheck it and click apply, eject and reconnect your iPod, then recheck it and click apply.

    3 - Synched iPod
    4- Hit "Apply"
5- Checked "Open iTunes when connected"

    10- iTunes opened automatically!

  • ITunes Does Not Open Automatically

I thought I had this remedied, but alas, the problem recurs.  Even though I have the box checked to open iTunes when my iPhone is connected, this does not happen I must open iTunes manually each time.  Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?  Thanks in advance.

How do I ensure that "this process does start up?"
I am not sure if you are on a Mac or PC. But the process is called iTunesHelper. This process must be running at all times in order to detect when an iDevice is connected.
Make sure iTunesHelper is listed in the Activity Monitor (Mac) or Windows Task Manager under the Processes tab (PC) when you first start up your computer.
You may also see other iTunes services called iPodService or ApplMobileDeviceService, but I don't see them on my Mac.
You should also be running the latest version of iTunes, 10.4.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes 9.2.1 will not open automatically when iphone connected

i have all the relevant boxes ticked, and have tried all the 'fixes' i.e unchecking autosync boxes and then re ticking them but with no success. i have even unistalled iTunes, and reinstalled it. I have to say when i reinstalled iTunes, when i connected my iphone (3GS Running Version 4.1) iTunes did open ok, but subsequently when i connect my phone, im back to my original situation????
I have connected my daughters 2G iPhone running V3.13 and again this has no effect on iTunes.
Strangely though i have connected my daughters iPod Nano and voila!!! iTunes opens automatically???
Can anybody figure this one out please???

Finally i have worked out why itunes didn't open when my iphone or ipod was connected. Ituneshelper.app (which is burried in the itunes app) was not running as a start up item.
to fix this, if anybody else has this issue.......
    1. open up applications, and right click the itunes icon.
    2. select 'show package contents'
    3. open the contents folder
    4. open the resources folder
    5. scroll down until you find the ItunesHelper icon.
    6. Now open up your system preferences.
    7. select accounts
    8. select login items
    9. now drag the ItunesHelper icon into the login items screen
    10. This will now put the ituneshelper app into the startup items.
To confirm the change restart your mac, and connect your iphone!!! Ehhhh voila!!!!
Hope this helps as ive been looking for a solution for ages.
