Suddently yesterday all file types are downloaded as "attachment.ashx" instead of pdf or doc or whatever.

I've been using Firefox for many months to access my work email using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Clicking on an attachment always resulted in the file being downloaded intact (mostly pdfs and Word docs). Suddenly yesterday all file types result in the download of "attachment.ashx". I had not changed anything in Firefox. I restarted Ff and then my computer without effect. I then deleted and reinstalled Ff -- no change. Now in the applications window pdfs and docs aren't listed, but I can't get them in there anyway because they don't download as such. I am using Ff 8.0 on MacOS 10.6.8.

Firefox 9.0 will revert the 8.0 changes, waiting for a definitive fix from Microsoft: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=703015

  • Files always download as "attachment.ashx" instead of the file name and file type that they actually are.

Since I have installed the new version of Firefox (version 8.0), every single file I download is downloaded as "attachment.ashx" and won't open. I have to change the name as well as the file type in order to open the document.
This happens regardless of if I'm downloading from email, from a website, etc.. All of the files I have downloaded also have already been named and had file types appended, but Firefox is changing them every single time. I have never had this problem before using the same sites and downloads.

Please hurry up with a solution! This is causing havoc, as I cannot open any attachments at all! It defaults to Adobe Photoshop, and then I get an error message that it is the wrong type of file. These are all Word docs! I can't get my work done! Is there some kind of work around that I can use in the meantime to open these things?

  • Can't open files that are downloaded

    Hi,
I can't open up the files that are downloaded. When I try to open them up, they all say "the file may be corrupted". What's going on and how can I fix this?
    Thank you

I am having trouble opening .dmg, .xls, and .ppt files. Most recently I tried to download a printer driver from the HP website that is a .dmg and it opened a window to save a binary file and saved as a Quicktime file. The .ppt file was a forward in an email and the .xls file was a file from another Mac. I have no idea why this is happening.

  • Contribute tries to open all file types

Contribute 3 tries to open all file types, in addition to the
designated application. You click on "file.doc" and contribute AND
word try to open the file. You have to cancel the open process for
contribute at least three times to make it go away. Then the file
open as usual in word. I have checked the preferences and removed
all "MS Office" file types from the dialog. I have checked the
folder options and verified that Contribute is NOT the assigned
application in Windows to open the file.
    Help this is very annoying!

I'm glad to know there are other people out there with the
same problem... but has anyone found a solution yet?

  • It should be possible to set default behavior for all file types

It should be possible to set a default action for all file types. I'm so tired of having to manually sit and say "save this file" because Firefail always defaults to "open with" and has disabled the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on."
And spare me the zealotry religious excuses for why its the fault of websites and not Firefail

I do want users to have full control to be able to set any folder view they want by using Apply to Folders; I just want to set the initial/default view to Detail because that matches what the majority of my users want.
That is, what registry setting changes when I go to a picture folder, change the view to Detail, and click Apply to Folders? Having done that, I still retain the ability to change it to some other view and apply that to folders. But what registry setting
represents the change I just made when applying Detail view to all Picture folders.?
This settings is simple via GUI, but it is related a lot of registry keys, I made a test in my machine, capture the "Apply to Folders" process using Regshot tool (this is a small tool which can compare the regsitry changes after you change some
settings), and this is the result:
this is part of the registry changes, a plenty of registry keys and values need to be changed. hard to list them here. if you have interests, I recommend the tool Regshot, it can help you capture the regsitry changes.

  • I'm unable to email PDF attachments, this has started in the last 2 weeks - any clues why as other file types are sending?

I'm unable to email PDF attachments, this has started in the last 2 weeks - any clues why as other file types are sending?

    Greetings,
That is rather strange. Attachments are attachments.  The big difference between what will send and what won't is usually either who you are sending it to (wrong email address) or how big the attachment is (most email providers have a limit to the total message size between 10 MB and 20 MB).
-- What happens when you say you are "unable to email PDF attachments"?  What error message do you get?
-- Are you sending these emails using the Mail program?
-- What is the file size of the PDF you are trying to send?
-- What happens if you compress the PDF before you email it (Highlight the PDF on the desktop and then go to File > Compress) ?
-- What happens if you send the PDF to yourself?
    Cheers.

On my mac I have both Quicktime X and Quicktime 7 pro. Both applications seem to be crashing quite often lately. This happens when playing all files types. I notice it more with .flv file. It usually happens when i grab the time slider bar and try to move it. The apps will freeze and I have to "force quit" to get them to close. Sometimes putting the computer to sleep and waking it up helps. Is there a way to remedy this?

  • All My Files not displaying all file types

So, as above, in Finder using the default display by file type, the only results I see are for Spreadsheets, Developer and Documents.
No seperate lists for PDFs, Images or any other file type.
Looked in preferences but can't seem to see any place where this might be enabled.
    Glum...

Here's another data point:  I found some PDFs under my Documents folder that weren't showing up in AMF.  I found that simply opening one up in Acrobat Reader would cause it to show up in AMF (I didn't have to change and re-save the PDF).
I did notice that if I selected multiple PDFs at once and opened them all at the same time, some of them would then appear in AMF, while others wouldn't.  But opening up a single PDF by itself would always add it to the files shown in AMF (as long as the PDF was somewhere under my User folder - if I first copied the PDF to a second hard drive that's not under my User folder and *then* opened it, it still wouldn't show up in AMF.)
In short, here's what I've discovered so far:
    1)  AMF doesn't seem to index anything that's not somewhere under my User folder.
    2)  Not everything under my User folder shows up in AMF, but if I open a "missing" file that's under my User folder, it will then show up in AMF. (Except for pictures and songs - see #3)
    3)  AMF doesn't index anything that's in my iPhoto or iTunes libraries (even after opening a picture in iPhoto or playing a song in iTunes.)
    4)  AMF doesn't index attachments to Mail messages unless you download the attachment (presumably because it's then stored under your User folder.)
    5) AMF will only seem to (sometimes) index Excel spreadsheets if they're saved as .xlsx files.  Even opening, changing and saving a .xls file won't get it to show up in AMF afterward.  Spreadsheets are strange, in fact.  Even with some .xlsx files, they'll show up in AMF *while I have them open in Excel*, but as soon as I close them in Excel, they disappear from AMF again.  This is the only types of file I've seen disappear from AMF after they've shown up once - all the other file types seem to stay in AMF once you can get them to show up there.

  • 'All My Files' doesn't show all file types (e.g. .Zip)

Does anyone know how to make the 'All My Files' option in Finder display Zip files and Folders?
When I look at the search criteria, 'All My Files' seems to be only looking for 'Documents' and 'com.microsoft.'.
    Thanks,
    M.

'All My Files' doen't even show pdf and doc files that I know are on my machine.
Maybe should be called 'Barely Some of My Files.'
I went into 'Search Criteria' and put in only one criteria line, searching for "any" file of "any" type.
    This seemed to work.

  • Icons in Finder for many file types are now blank

For no reason at all when I booted my Mac today many of the icons for my file types have just dissapeared! Anyone have any idea how to get them back? It is REALLY annoying because it makes files look like the are a folder deeper than they really are when using the list view which I always do. It's not all icons though but noticably it's all archives (.zip, .tar.gz .jar) and CSS, JS and JSP files.

For the second tiem this week the answer to my problem with OS X is a re-boot. I'm used to that working on Windows but not on OS X. This kind of thing should not be happening but it is and it didn't used to happen.

  • What file types are included PDFExportConverter for Oracle UCM 11g (PS3)

For UCM 11g PS3 or later, (WebCenter Content if you prefer), I am trying to find out the list of file types supported for conversion to PDF, and which are out of the box, and which need a 3rd party download.
Is there any documentation that lists supported file types, and how to get any 3rd party converters?
This is very urgent as the customer needs to put in their budget and include any costs associated with 3rd party converters.
    Thanks

  • New computer ff install not listing all file types under tools-options-applications

New windows installation on another with the same version of ff (10.0.2). Clicking local .pls files in this machine gives option to launch VLC media player but on other computer just text appears.
The extension appears in the applications tab after clicking tools and options on this computer, but the list is far shorter on the other machine and does not include this extension. Is this rectified by installing a plugin? If so which one?

The issue isn't that VLC isn't playing the files- it is... but linking to the files saved on my system does not launch VLC from Firefox on the other computer like it does on this one. I've actually been able to add to the applications list. Technically I can run the same apps and associations on both machines except that Firefox isn't handling the ".pls" files at all with the other machine
I've saved a directory structure with .pls files to different streaming radio stations and the directory is linked to from Firefox on both computers... identical directories and files stored. When I bring up one of the folders in this machine and click on the file, I first get the same dialog as you attached- I launch VLC by selecting "Open with" then clicking OK. The radio station plays. I've set it to change stations when I click within the iframe without having to go to VLC and use the open media feature- it does the trick with a single click from Firefox,
The other machine when I click the file the iframe in which the directory was displayed shows text information (urls and other arcane digital nonsense) as though the file were a text file. Both machines have similar installations.... I do not want to overload on the other machine- it's my communications backup but I would like this arrangement to work as it does on this computer.
Again, the biggest hint I see is the absence of the ".pls" file type in the list under the "applications" tab after clicking "Tools"-"Options" in Firefox on the machine in question.
Can something be done either by transplanting missing files from one machine to the next or from about:config to induce the desirable result from the other machine in Firefox?

  • All attachments download as "attachment.ashx".

I use Outlook Web App through the sweerver of my home university, and I am running Mac with System 10.6.8 and Firefox 9.0. Since installing Firefox 8.0 I receive e-mails fine but if I try to download any attachments, either by clicking on the link of the attachment or by right-clicking and selecting "save link as", Fireforx will always download a generic file "attachment.ashx", and I have to rename it on the desktop. Other browsers wirf fine, so the problem is obviously with Firefox.

"I solved the problem--I downloaded Google Chrome to use instead of Firefox. "
This is rather knee jerk but after reading through all the posts on bug forums and such, the following is clear to me:
    * Microsoft is not following RFC standards
    * Mozilla Firefox developers are too busy trying to conforms to standards that nobody is following and are forgetting that without users they have no jobs
I honestly didn't want it to come to this but I really don't need to be fucking with the registry, the browser, or (worse) waiting for a rollback on conformance due to this meth-induced death-march of FF browser versioning. That's for open sores users, not the rest of the population.
Goodbye Firefox, it's been a great 9 years but I don't have time for this anymore. Chrome is my new home.
