Summary Options Open iTunes when iPod is Connected

Open iTunes when this iPod is connected
is grayed out under iTunes Summary Options.
Anyone know why? how to enable? is it the result of some other preference?
Some file I need to delete?
Running Windows 7 64-bit
iOS 4.3.5
iPod Touch 4G 32GB
Just did a full uninstall of all Apple software (manually also as described in tech note).
Can't find anything else, other than I can't seem to upgrade to iOS 5; one app (NewYorkTimes) refuses to be moved and does not show on left column of iPod apps (but does show in the Apps purchased). I've reinstalled directly to iPod but can't figure what is corrupt.
#2: high res photos and tells me I need to synch photos
I just had two hours with frozen system and cancelled the Sync on the iPod and shutdown/power off the PC. It showed what looked like 99.99% download and install process.
There is 779,856k file
C:\Users\______\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
Very frustrated and confused, still....

The only clue I have is when I go to Device Manager  I see an error for device;
If I go to Devices and Printers control panel, other USB devices, it finds a problem with iPod.
Thanks to all.
So the error "this device cannot start (Code 10)" and the error mesages about the hardware leave me thinking Apple's device driver support is at fault and is an issue if not THE issue in all this.

    Launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click iTunes > Preferences then select the Devices tab.
Deselect:  Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically
    Click OK.
Now connect your iPod to your computer.
Select the iPod under Devices left side of the iTunes window in the source list.
    Now select the Summary tab.
Select:  Open iTunes when this <device> is connected

  • Not opening iTunes when Touch is connected

If you have autosync in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices disabled, enable it again. Then click on your phone in the device list, and check the Summary pane if autolaunch is selected. If no, select it, go back to Edit/Preferences/Devices and enable the option to prevent autosync, if you had this selected before.
The reason to go back and forth is, that you can't see if autolaunch for iTunes is selected in the Summary pane, if you disabled autosync.
    I hope this makes sense

  • Open iTunes when iPhone/Pad connected not working

iTunes recently quit auto opening when I connect my iPhone or iPad. I'm not sure exactly when it started happening, but I'm guessing it was after a recent iTunes or other software update.
The Prevent ipad etc from syncing box under iTunes -> Preferences -> Devices ->  is UNchecked.
and the Open iTunes when this iPad/Phone is Connected box  in the device summery section is checked.
I do have iTunes helper in my login items.
I've searched help and troubleshooting and can't find anything to help.
    Any help here?

I'm having the same issue. Just started recently. I don't see any suggestions for how to fix it. Do you?

  • Cant open itunes when ipod connected

I cant open i tunes when my ipod is connected. as soon as i disconnect it itunes comes up. if i connect my ipod with itunes already running it stops working.
im really starting to loose my patience
    help!

Are you sure you actually synced them? I know you said it shows up when your iPod is connected, but I'm not sure if that means it's really there. When your iPod is connected, click on the TV Shows tab in the main window in iTunes. Check your syncing preferences there and make sure the shows are actually getting synced.

  • Why is the option "Open ITunes when this iPad is connected" dimmed?

It's an original iPad running the latest iOS. My host iMac is running MacOS 10.6.8.

I have the same issue but my Itunes opens up when I connect my Iphone. I do not want it to open up. I just want to charge my phone with the usb and only have itunes open when I want it to. How can I turn this off? It seems the box in the options is unchecked and greyed out so as to be unavailable anyways.

  • Opening iTunes when iPod is plugged in

iTunes won't start when I plug in the iPod nano to the computer. When i go to manualy open iTunes a message appears saying: "another user on this computer is using the iPod softwear, so iTunes is unable to communicate with this iPod. Please ask the other user to log out". I can use iTunes after this message appears but I cannot load songs onto the iPod, the little picture of the iPod isn't there. I'm the only one on this computer who even has an iPod or software open. What can I do to change this from happening?

    Hello carolinous,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There may be something in this article that may help:
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes
Hmmm... maybe you should try this first:
    \Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools
Then restart the ipod service under your name.

  • Open iTunes when iPhone is connected

I was just wondering, is there anyway to get itunes to open when i plug in my iphone?

Notice that I said UNcheck that option... Also, in the "Summary" pane for your iPhone in iTunes be sure "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected", is checked. (This won't work if the "Disable..." option in the iTunes prefs is checked.)

  • About the TV Shows in iTunes when iPod is connected.

There is always a place the let me choose or to name the video whether it is a music video, TV Shows or a common video clip in my iTunes before.
But, after I did update my iTunes to Version 8.0.0.35 days ago, there is no more choice to let me select the video clip to those categories(Music Videos, TV Shows or Videos) and the lines of those words or the title of the choice of the categories were disappeared.
So, I wanna know the way to fix this problem. Can anyone help? Thanks a lot.

Thanks very much The problem solved!

  • How to "Open iTunes automatically when iPod is connected"....

...without having them sync automatically?  I'm able to do this on my MBP just fine.  The solution on my MBP is to uncheck "prevent ipods, ipads, iphones from syncing automatically" under Devices Preferences.  Then I'm able to check "Open iTunes when Ipod is connected" under my iPod's Summary Options.  After that i can then go back a uncheck "prevents Ip.... from syncing automatically".
Unfortunately, this option doesn't seem to be available to Windows users.  or is it?
    Thanks,
    Mike

this will solve half of my issue while coincidentally causing the other half of it.
I want to be able to:
Open iTunes automatically when iPod is connected
    AND
Prevent my ipod from syncing automatically *(when this is enabled the prior feature becomes disabled)

  • ITunes does not start automatically when iPod is connected

iTunes used to start automatically when I connected iTunes. It no longer does. Can I fix that?
    Dave

Connect your iPod and open iTunes. Towards the bottom of the iPod screen, there are four check boxes. The top one says "Open iTunes when iPod is connected." Check that box and click apply. If it is checked, uncheck it and click apply, eject and reconnect your iPod, then recheck it and click apply.

  • Itunes wont automatically open when ipod is connected

    Hello there
basically the above ^^ itunes wont open automatically when ipod is connected ive tried the 5 steps and ive also tried the whole tray and exit thing its not WORKING!
    all help much apprciated thanks

I have a interesting hunch that somehow Windows is doing something to you...
One thing you might want to see is if within Windows if the iPod service is running... As there are certain services which automatically get installed when itunes is loaded. These notice the device and loads the app..
Just for reference, here are my Windows Services and their status:
Apple Mobile Device - Started & Automatic
    Bonjour - Started & Automatic
iPod Service - Started & Manual
I thought that a 4th service existed, but can't find it...
Have you tried uninstalling iTunes and downloading to reinstall it again, that might help.. Or else it has something deeper do to with your computer itself!
That's about all I can offer right now.

  • ITunes 11.1.5 doesn't open automatically when iPhone 5 connected

I have tried checking and unchecking "open iTunes when iPhone is connected" and that hasn't helped.

I’ve found another solution for those where this doesn’t resolve it.
    From user Crosbie at MacForums.com
You can extract iTunes Helper from the iTunes package, if you like, to replace the absent one.
It can be found by right-clicking the iTunes app and choosing 'Show Package Contents'; then navigate down to the 'MacOS' folder. You can then drag it to your open 'login items' window.

This solved the issue for me, where unchecking and re-checking didn’t.

  • Possible iOS 5 bug - "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected" using 200 MB

A strange bug with either iOS 5 or iTunes 10.5 that does not look like it was discussed - I couldn't pull anything up in a search.
I've noticed that ever since upgrading to iOS 5, the amount of free space on my iPod Touch (3rd G) reported both in iTunes and on the iPod itself decreased by about 2 GB compared to what I had had free under iOS 4.3.
Originally I attributed it to the fact that iOS 5 happened to be larger in size, until I noticed that I gained about 200 MB by unchecking the "Open iTunes when..." option.  See the following two screenshots:
The strange part is that the "missing" 200 MB is somehow attributed to "Audio" - also notice the difference in reported Audio size between the two images.
As a comparison, my iPad is still running iOS 4.3.5.  I checked and unchecked that option in iTunes when the iPad was connected, and there was no change in reported capacity whatsoever.
Does anyone have an idea as to what the cause of this may be?  Has anyone else experienced this and/or submitted a bug report to Apple software engineers?
    Thanks,
    Steve

iTunes freezes to the point that I must CtrlAltDel to exit it. It never did this before, but recently it has started doing this. I've had it for 13 months, so no warranty.
I have tried it in iTunes 7.5 on windows Vista and in iTunes 7.4 on Windows XP. Same issue either way.
    Thanks for your prompt reply!
