Sun Management Center and Reduced Core Installs

hey all,
I just discovered the Sun Management Center and the tool looks great for the servers I need to manage. However due to security reasons all our servers are installed as Reduced Network Core installs where we then add the minimal extra packages.
At the moment I am still testing everything but I am a bit stuck here and I believe that I might be missing some packages. I can get the server to find the agent but there I cannot load any of the modules. Sniffing the traffic does seem to show that the info is sent ( a list of names I recognise as module names) but the console does not show anything and reports an error unable to load module info.
Is there a full package list that is required to run the management center server and client? The agent runs fine on my desktop but that is a full install.
I already noticed the command ping is required, but am unsure about snmp daemons. What other packages will i need to install? The manual doesn't really give any information on that and seems to start from a full install

Never mind,
The problem was in the firewall who was defragmenting packets. Once I disabled that feature the server worked fine.
Seems just ping is enough to get the installer working.

  • How to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center ?

    Hello people,
    I want to integrate a Solaris x86 server on Sun Management Center platform.
    If I'm not wrong, SunMC doesn't run for Solaris x86, server and client only as console with Java.
    In speat of it, I try to install Sun Management Center 3.0 Agent for Solaris x86.
    It seems to be ok, install packages, but when execute es-setup script, intents to create the following directory:
    /opt/SUNWsymon/base/bin/sparc-sun-solaris2.8
    I supose that in this directory, SunMC will install sparc binary files
    At this point, I can't follow the installation and abort it.
    Can anybody give me ideas to install and integrate my solaris x86 server on SunMC ?
    Thanks

    Hi
    From the Unix prompt enter oemapp console(for v9.x). If you are using earlier versions it is oemapp console (for starting the console) and oemapp dbastudio(for starting dba studio)
    For starting OMS enter: oemctrl start oms.

  • 3rd party MIBs in Sun Management Center

    Hello:
    I have just installed a Sun Mangement Center 3.5 environment.
    Also configured some SNMP object, some as proxy monytoring and other just as SNMP ping.
    Now I have to configure some SNMP objects for which I have SNMPv2 MIBS and I dont know how to do it.
    The Installation manual talks about configuring a legacy agent as a subagent.......is that the way to go?
    I,ve read the instructions but there are some things I cant understand.
    The SNMP object is configured to transmit to the SMC server and to 1162 port.
    The MIB file is on the SMC server machine is called sylantro.my and just placed it in /opt/SUNWsymon/sylantro/ directory, should this file reside in another directory?
    How should I fill the info in subagent-registry-d.x?
    sa2 = {
         type     = legacy
         persist     = false
         snmpPort = "1162"
         errorAction = restart
         startCommand     = "/usr/lib/snmp/mibiisa -p %port"
         stopCommand     = "kill -9 %pid"
         pollInterval = 60
         pollHoldoff = 60
         oidTrees = 1.3.6.1.4.1
         snmpVersion = SNMPv2
         securityLevel = noauth
         securityName =public
    Questions:
    is the name sa2 in the example arbitrary? or is related to the MIB file?
    startCommand which command should I use to start????? I only have a MIB file, or should I use mibiisa command? if so, where is the MIB file related to the subagent-registry-d.x file?
    oidTrees is this data in the MIB file? I found some documents that expresed 1.3.6.1.4.1.3945 I found that 3945 in the MIB, but the previous numbers do not.
    snmpVersion is SNMPv2 ok?
    securityLevel is ok to place noauth here? when setup for SMC was done I typed something for seed and also the default public string
    How sould this SNMP object be configured in SMC to be able to monitor that object?
    Ok this is all, thanks for any help.

    Hi cva01,
    If you'd like to poll your device for all its data and see it all inside SunMC then you'd have to use the SDK that comes with SunMC and the "Module Builder" module to import the MIB (or do it by hand). If it's something you'll need to use a lot of my company can build Sylantro monitoring from that MIB for you.
    If you only want traps that come from the device, we'll be releasing an Event Gateway module soon that allows a SunMC Agent to decode and log (and alarm on) SNMP traps.
    The subagent example you found shows how to have SunMC forward specific data acquisition requests through itself to another SNMP Agent. i.e. if there's another SNMP process on the same system as the SunMC Agent and you'd prefer to only have to poll a single process instead of two.

  • Sun managment center Report manager problem

    Hi All,
    I have installed SUNMC 4.0. I am having difficulty with PRM.
    Data avalability table is showing status as collected and I am able to generate alarm summary report for all the host.
    But I am not able to make reports for each individual hosts.
    Help me on this ??
    Log is saying
    sunmc taskreq completed with status NOTARGET
    Thanks
    Srini

    Hi Srini,
    Are you using the default reports, or are you trying to make your own? Also, remember that SunMC thinks "kernel reader" and "kernel reader simple" modules are different... so even though they contain common numbers (i.e. 5 minute load average) you have to be sure to specify the correct module when you're making your graphs.
    Have you seem the PRM walkthrough here?
    Your best bet is to contact Oracle support to help get things working. If you're trying to get reports that PRM maybe can't create, you could also take a look at our [Enterprise Reporter|http://www.halcyoninc.com/products/EnterpriseReporter/index.php] (it can graph SunMC Agent numbers too).

  • Solaris Management Center 4.0 install?

    Hi,
    I've recently been testing a T5140 and have installed management center 4.0 with the solaris container manager add-on. The install whet fine, however when I go to the web console all I see is the sun management center and when I click on it nothing happens. As well as the solaris container manager does not show up even though it's installed and configured. Any ideas, on how to get the solaris container manager in the webconsole?
    Charley,

    The HWDS suite was an embedded application that Sun's SunVTS application team wrote and shipped in SunMC. In the past SunVTS was a per system test suite and SunMC allowed it to have an enterprise view. A few weeks ago SunVTS 7.0 was released that now has an enterprise view. Thus they have removed the feature from SunMC.

  • Solstice enterprise agent and Sun Mgmt Center

    Is anyone familiar with a way to convert a sub-agent developed with Solstice Enterprise Agent and APIs into a Sun Management Center sub-agent? I have a MIB as well as source code for the stubbed code generated by mibcodegen. ... Not sure if this is totally useless at this point and I have to start from scratch.

    The MIB files are located under /var/snmp/mib , as for the OID i can't remember.. but if i remember i can check some old documents which i should have somewhere (unless someone else manages to answer first ;-)
    As to the snmpwalk problem, ensure that you have the latest patches, i recall there being a snmpwalk <-> EA bug. It might have been in Solaris 9, but it might also have been in an earlier release.
    Anyway, the latest Enterprise Agent patches are always good for security reasons.

  • Solaris Management Console and Split Backplane

    I have installed a split backplane with single-loop configuration on a V890 server. I have setup the FC using the installation documentation. I have 12 disks attached and they are showing up 0-11 when I use the format command.
    When I try to use the SMC, I get the following error;
    'Attempt to get a list of all disks failed with unexpected error: null'
    I cannot see the disks using 'Disks' or 'Expansion Storage' under the console.
    I know there is a patch for the SMC 2.1, but in the patch description, there is no mention of this as being one of the fixes.
    Until I get SMC to see the disks I cannot raid them.
    Any and all assistance on this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    You may not get an answer here, as this forum is for "Sun Management Center": a different product. Curse Sun for recycling acronyms! :)
    Still, if you have a v890 you should really be running Sun Management Center as well, at least to get all the good hardware monitoring bits out of it.

    It's best to use SunMC 3.5 at this point if your just getting started. The SunMC 3.5 Install and Config guide is the best document on setting up the environment. It's available on docs.sun.com.
    SunMC is born from the SyMON product offering from within Sun and has nothig to do with the Solaris Management Console.

    You'll need at least Sun Management Center 3.5 Update 1a, which is available in the nearest Solaris 10 media kit, or at:
    http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/sunmanagementcenter/get.xml
    Now that 3.5.1b is available maybe you should get that one.

  • Sun management software

    Hi,
    we are looking at sun management software and noticed that it costs about $300+ per client.

    I, too, have been trying to sort out the options and tools for supporting Solaris 9 and 10.
    This maybe behond the scope of your question but here is some of what I've uncovered in the last couple of years:
    The class Intermediate System Administration (SA 239) has you download the recommended patch cluster and install using ./install_cluster. This works but you will not know which patches will be installed until after the fact. So this process does not support preparing for any changes made by the patches.
    The only other process that I have used involve using a non Sun script - pca from http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/intro.html This perl script has many options but the "pretend" option makes it easy to determine which patches will be installed and what revision of the patch is currently installed.
    Here are some of the sources I use to try an keep up with patches and other technical details of supporting Solaris
    If you have a SunSolve account you can subscribe to email alerts at:
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/editSubscribedDocuments.do
    There are 6 "collections" of "New Documents". I receive a single daily email. The email contains a numbered list (with URLs) for each collection that has New Documents. The collections are:
    BUG             (includes bug number and very short description URL)
    INFODOC         (includes short description, the INFODOC number is imbedded in the URL)
    PATCH           (includes patch number short description/title and URL)
    SRDB            (Symptoms and Resolutions - includes short description and URL)
    SUNALERT        (including short description and URL)
    TROUBLESHOOTING (including short description and URL)Another source for patch information is the SUNSOLVE[SM] PATCH CLUB report (sign up at https://subscriptions.sun.com/subscription_center/ecomm.jsp). This a weekly email with four main sections. The first section has one line for each new patch with a short title/description. The second section has an entry for each patch with more details (includes keywords, synopsis, Solaris Release, bugid's fixed and other details) - but no URLs. The thrid section is a list of Withdrawn patches. The fourth section has an entry for each withdrawn patch that includes reason and recommendation details.
    SUN(SM) ALERT WEEKLY SUMMARY REPORT is another source. This one covers "critical hardware and software issues". It includes the Sun Alert ID and URL. Sign up is at the same URL as the Patch Club report above.
    have good weekend,

    Welcome to this forum on Core J2EE Patterns by the Sun Java Center!
    CONTEXT:
    This forum is intended for discussing the patterns from the Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog and other topics discussed in our book, Core J2EE Patterns.
    We, the authors of the book, welcome you to this forum.
    WHO WE ARE:
    We are Enterprise Java Architects from the Sun Java Center (SJC), which is the Java consulting organization of Sun Microsystems. We are a world-wide group of architects focusing on all consulting related to Java technologies.
    Visit our web-site for more information on SJC:
    http://www.sun.com/service/sunps/jdc/index.html
    BACKGROUND:
    Over the last few years, we at SJC have worked with our customers in architecting, designing, and implementing solutions on the J2EE platform. We have worked on documenting the J2EE patterns for over two years and released the patterns for public review in Beta form via the Java Developer Connection in May, 2001.
    The beta version of the patterns is available online as The Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog at:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/patterns/
    Subsequent to the release, we received great feedback and comments from hundreds of reviewers. We then worked towards incorporating the feedback into the pattern documentation. One of the common comments was about the lack of code examples in the online documentation. The latest pattern documentation provides many code examples and incorporates all the feedback received so far.
    BOOK INFORMATION:
    Core J2EE Patterns, the book, was released at JavaOne 2001 during June 4-9, and will be available in stores around the end of June 2001.
    The book includes the complete updated Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog with 15 patterns covering these J2EE technologies: Java Server Pages (JSP), Servlets, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), and Java Message Service (JMS). In addition to the J2EE Pattern Catalog, the book also provides other chapters that discuss design considerations,
    bad practices, and J2EE Refactorings. Example code is included for all patterns and strategies.

    Rajakannan,
    There are numerous ways to implement a templating mechanism in support of the composite view pattern, included in the catalog as a presentation-tier pattern.
    The goal is to avoid simply having monolithic views with all the formatting code embedded directly withing the view. If we have common subviews that are shared across several or more views then we end up with a copy-and-paste type of reuse...undesirable. So, modularity is one issue. Another major force when considering the Composite View pattern is that we may want to manage the layout of our pages and the content of our pages separately. We may have some logical regions defined, such as a search panel and main body, and a subview that plugs into those logical regions that map to a physical page (ie: x.jsp and y.jsp). We may then want to vary one independent of the other...ie: we may want to modify the layout of the page w/o changing the content and we may want to vary the content w/o touching the layout.
    There are a number of implementation strategies that can be used to implement the Composite View pattern, ranging from relatively simple to much more sophisticated. We describe each in our book and include source code examples.
    The example in the book that allows for supporting all the issues described above is implemented using the "Custom Tag View Management Strategy" and uses a tag library written by David Geary, that supports the Composite View pattern. The library is also included in David's new book, Adv. JavaServer Pages, Prentice Hall, 2001.
    Again, it's simply one implementation and, as you mention, there are many different ways to implement this strategy.
    Thanks for your question,
    Dan

  • Registering with the WebEx Data Center and the Cisco WebEx Node Management System

    Dear guys, ...
    Please help,
    i want to implement to webex node ASR1000, i have read in "Configuring the Cisco Webex Node for ASR 100.pdf", there is prerequisites to implement it, that is "Registering with the WebEx Data Center and the Cisco WebEx Node Management System"
    Can someone tell how to "Registering with the WebEx Data Center and the Cisco WebEx Node Management System"
    Are there any step by step documentation to "Registering with the WebEx Data Center and the Cisco WebEx Node Management System"?
    Thank you
    BR

    You should have received a PAK Key with your order.  Go to Cisco licensing and enter the PAK Key as this will start the process.  Once the PAK Key is validated a screen will be displayed to enter your request for ASR 100 integration.  It normally takes a few days to a couple of weeks to get the information back from WebEx needed to configure your ASR.
    If you did not get a PAK Key contact your WebEx rep to get the process started to integrate your ASR to your WebEx site.
    Hope this helps
