  • How to upgrade oracle 32 to 64 bit on sun solaris x86 64 bit OS?

    Hi,
I want to upgrade/convert 32 bit Oracle Database 10.2.0.2 to 64 bit database. Existing 32 bit database is RAC and it is running on Sun Solaris X86 64 bit OS.
First, I want to know is it possible?
If yes, then what are the exact steps?

    Hi,
Such a migration can be done, just follow the steps in Metalink note 62290.1
It is important to remember that 64-bit database requires more shared pool memory so you should increase your shared pool size.

The info on Sun gcc download page is really confusing, the gcc will work on solaris x86 and the compiled executable can ONLY be executed on SPARC server. What a frustrating experience!Could you please let us know which page is that? Because the one I found - called "Product Downloads GCC For SPARC Systems" has SPARC written all over it:

Forms and report services work fine on solaris 8.
My problem is on the client side.
I have to use solaris 8 with netscape like forms clients
and I wasn't able to make it work with java plugins.
    Any solution?

According to Metalink Doc ID 742060.1, modified 28-Sep-2009, it appears that 4th Quarter Calendar Year 2009 will see a Solaris x86-64 release of 11.2.0.1

    Hi,
We have built our application on Sunsolaris Intel(X86) .But one of my client has Sun Fire v240 (but Sunfire uses Ultra SPARC processors)
is there any problem (related to JRE problem)for running that application on Sunfire

If its a java program it should work on both platforms, as long as the java version is the same (or later) as the one you used to build your application.

  • SUN Solaris: Containers and Virtualization

    Hi Everyone,
Just starting on a new project which will deployed on SUN Mxxxx servers.
We have opted to virtualize the systems, does anyone have any experience on Solaris Virtualization, containers, etc?
Any white papers, how to guide or experience would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Michael

We make use of containers/zones heavily (together with ZFS as filesystem) and it works like a charm. We also use on one box Solaris Cluster together with containers.
    Check the following notes:
Note 1246022 - Support for SAP applications in Solaris Zones
Note 870652 - Installation of SAP in a Solaris Zone
Note 724713 - parameter settings for Solaris 10
    What database will be used?

  • Sane,  Solaris x86, and possibly Staroffice 8

I am running Solaris 10 6/06 and have installed the companion cd as well as someother things (Quake II, QEMU for example). I am trying to set up a USB HP office Jet 5500 all-in-one series. I set it up as a printer but i cant set up the scanner functions. I run the following commands and get the following output:
    # /opt/sfw/bin/sane-find-scanner
    # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
    # you have loaded a SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [hp], product=0x3a11 [officejet 5500 series]) at libusb:/dev/usb:3f0.3a11/0
    found USB scanner (vendor=0x046d, product=0x0921, chip=ICM532B) at libusb:/dev/usb:46d.921/0
    # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
    # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.
    # Not checking for parallel port scanners.
    # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
    # can't be detected by this program.
    # /opt/sfw/bin/scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
As you can see SANE can find the scanner from 'sane-find-scanner' but does not recognize it with 'scanimage -L'. I would greatly appriate any assistance and thank you for reading this.

    Hi,
Thanks for this answer. I4ve already been through this step, but debuging is really hard as you have to check multiple trace file.
Reading the docs back again, it seems linux kernel 2.6.9.x needs to be patched for EFI disk names.
I will ask the same question again : will Sun release a QFS install other than RPMs and working with UP TO DATE kernels ?
The only release is for kernel 2.4 or 2.6.9, and they both need to be recompiled with a damn EFI patch. Why not provide a rpm working against 2.6.10 or... 2.6.20 which already have it ?
My next move will be to try to run QFS with a 2.6.10 kernel (even if not supported).
ps : my hardware is a Sun Netra 4200. Os is Linux Centos 4, which should be (and is) binary compatible with Red-Hat. Why is the QFS install script not working then ?
Sun, please, Red-Hat or Suse are not the only Linux distro not the best. Open your eyes and your support to other distros :)

  • Instant Client 11.1.0.7 for Sun Solaris x86/x64

    Hi,
we are looking for a new version(11.1.0.7) of instantclient for a Solaris 10 x86/x64 system.
Current Solaris instant client is outdated at the moment and we are have some problem with InstantClient 10 and the limitation(32k) of chars.
When will there be updated packages for Solaris on x86/x64 systems,
or is this platform not supported anymore?
    Thanks a lot

Due to Oracle's redicoulus NDA for new release versions no one within Oracle seems to be able to tell us, which as a customer we find unresonable. We were told last year, about this time that we should expect a 11gR1 release around Oracleworld. That came and went. Again we asked, and were told that it "might" be comming out as a 11gR2 version.
Fine. We will renew our support agreement when we know you will support our platform.

  • Weblogic Server 9.2 MP 3 for Solaris x86

Does anyone know where I can download weblogic server 9.2 mp 3 for Solarix x86. I have spent my entire day looking for it in support.oracle.com (metalink) and oracle download pages but nothing has turned up so far.

You can always ask via support.
There is a download on edelivery.oracle.com. Select Oracle BEA then Solaris x86 32bit - then click on BEA WebLogic Media Pack for Sun Solaris x86 (x86, x86-64)
You'll see a 9.2 MP3 ISV download, I'm not sure if that's exactly the same as the normal one or if it's only for ISV's, you'd have to ask support.

We are running "big iron" (16 cores on one of the servers should qualify), although now in the x64 format instead of the overpriced Sparc versions we have phased out, after being told by Oracle that the planned to support the platform going forward.
However, either Oracle is going to support this platform, as metalink shows but on which they have not delivered, or not. If they are dropping it, other than support what exists, we won't be happy, but at least we can make plans for the future. This is all we have:

i had set the PATH,ORACLE_SID,ORACLE_HOME,LD_LIBRARY_PATH but still getting the error.
    Please suggest a fix.

  • Sapinst not started for PI 7.1 on Solaris 1064bit and Oracle10

    Hello,
We are running NW 7.10 PI 7.1 installation on Sun Solaris 10 and Oracle 10.2.0.4 platform. We are using the following installation DVDs for installing PI.
    Installation Master   = 51033240_21
    Java Component = 51033242
    UC Kernel = 51033245
We are doing following to run ./sapinst
    1. log on as root
    2. set JAVA_HOME, TEMP and DISPLAY
    3. go to master DVD and run ./sapinst
The instgui is not showing any error Problematicc sentence structure ./SAPinst is just getting frozen. We used another script ./sapinstgui from the same directory and it shows us some logon screen with port 21212 in the GUI. However, when we try clicking logon it does nothing.
We've ensured that port 21212 or any other port that supposed to be used by SAPinst are not blocked on the firewall or not used by any other application. Host and DNSfiles are also okay. Based on one of the previous forum   /etc/nss*.conf files also exist in our PI host.  Not sure why the SAPinst GUI is not started.
We've also ensured that we need any new SAPinst support pach from marketplace, however current installation master dvd is the latest one release in March 09 and there are no further patches released by SAP.
Please help if anyone of you have faced this issue before.
    Harshal

I tried ./sapinst SAPINST_DIALOG_PORT=<free_port_number> as well as the default port number. Both of them fails.
normally  ./sapinst itself should establish all the port automatically that it uses. Which currently is not happening.
Do you want me to copy installation master dvd for Solaris on windows work station from where i'm initiating it through Xmanager session and try running ?  The installation master dvd that i'm currenty using is for Solaris platform which meanase ./sapinst is compiled for Solaris, how will it be supported by Windows ?
