SUP HWC Operation Return Values

Hello SCN,
I am having a problem with a Client Initiated HWC application.
The application has 1 MBO which has an Operation attached to it.
The MBO queries SAP and return the details of a Purchase Requisition using the SAP standard BAPI.
Once the user has viewed the details of the PR he can then click a button to take him to the Operation which is a SAP standard Release BAPI.
When I created the operation I selected 2 input values (PR Number and Release Code) and then an output table which returns the message.
When building the HWC application I am unsure of how to display the table that is returned after the release of the PR or on failing of the release.
Using an operation can one have an output?
Thank you
Jared Commerford

Hi Jared,
Instead of attaching the operation
into the MBO, you can create another MBO for operation using the SAP standard
Release BAPI.
Drag and drop the newly created MBO
to Form editor to create the screen.
For approval process set the submit
type as online Request
Set the newly created screen as
default success screen.

• UML notation: Class operation return value multiplicity

Hallo,
how would you write function from example below using UML notation on implementation level, please:
class Coin {
public String[] getSideNames() {
return new String{ "Odd", "Even" };
}Multiplicity in return value is troubling me. I've tried +getSideNames( ) : String [ 2 ] but my tool just created new class named "String[2]" :-( To be precise I know that return value of function is array of MyClass with one or more element (1..*) so created class name was "MyClass[1..*]" -- nasty name to pass to javac isn't it? :-)
Is is possible to write multiplicity of return value this way? I couldn't find anything in omg's "UML: supertructure document" :-( I am not telling that it's not written there :-)))
Thank You.

jschell>
Unfortunately [n] behaves in same fashion as [*] =>
creating class named MyClass[1..n]" :-(
duffymo> what's the point?
this was only sample, real application is far more
complex than that. Even "nature" of result was just
made up. How am I or anyone else who responds supposed to know that?
>
duffymo> you can have cardinality in a class diagram
that shows exactly two values are available.
yup, i ended like that but there's still problem coz
return value class is "Object[]" :-(Sounds like a bad design, but I haven't seen the code, so I can't tell.
duffymo> personally, i don't think that exposing the
side names as ...
"side names" were just example :-) IMHO there are
certain situations where one could say "screw the
abstraction" :-D E.g. for final classes from one
package that cooperate on single time critical task.
:)"screw the abstraction" - good luck as an object-oriented designer with that attitude.
Either you're doing real-time work where time really is critical, or you're just another yutz who is congratulating himself on recognizing a time critical task without doing profiling or getting any real data. (A common mistake.) The maintainence and development time might be more critical here.
Gotta admit that I'm not much interested in commenting on your poor approximation of the real problem.

• How to retreive and display return value from BAPI

Hello,
I am using SUP to create a sales order application. In my MBO I have a create operation which calls a BAPI to create a sales order. How can I retrieve the return value (saled doc number) and display it on a screen and display it as an Alert of BB application.
Regards
Nidhideep Bhandari

Hi David Brandow,
I have tried your solution where I just created a MBO for my 'operation' and I'm using sync parameters to execute the RFC.
The problem I'm facing is, for example, if I create a record it gets saved in the MBO table and the record successfully gets created in SAP as well after a sync. But when I create another record and sync, the previously saved record in MBO table also gets executed so I'm getting duplicate entries in SAP.
Have you or anyone faced this problem?
Any response is appreciated. Please let me know if I'm not clear, I realized its a complicated scenario.
Thanks,
Sandeep

• Help : Complex parameter and return value in WebService?

Hi guys
These days, I publish a WebService, in it there is an
operation like this:
List search(List para);
in this operation, parameter "para" is a java.util.List, which contains many elements, every element is an instance of customizing class "MyItem", I made "MyItem" implements java.io.Serializable interface. Strangely, when I call this operations in my java client,
I found that I could not get out every element from para in server-side, but para.size() is showing it contains 10 elements in it. The same thing happen to the return value of this operation, in client, I got an instance of java.util.List class as the return value, when I try
System.out.println(result.get(0)); it output "null", but
result.size() is 10, I don't know how to explain this
Does anyone who encounter this issue too?
I guess it has something to with the Serializable issue ,but I have made every List item serializable, why it looks like this??

Hi Kevin,
I answered you by mail some days ago, but just to complete the thread, I am posting the hint also here:
Custom types should be manually added to the Virtual Interface, so that they can be serialized.
Best regards,
Alexander

• Remote Object - not able to get the returned value from java method

Hi ,
I am developing one sample flex aplication that connects to the java code and displays the returned value from the
java method in flex client. Here I am able to invoke the java method but not able to collect the returned value.
lastResult is giving null . I am able to see the sysout messages in server console.
I am using flex 3.2 and blazeds server and java 1.5
Here is the code what I have written.
<mx:WindowedApplication  xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" backgroundColor="#FFFFFF" initialize="initApp()">

import mx.binding.utils.ChangeWatcher;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
import mx.messaging.*;
import mx.messaging.channels.*
public function initApp():void {
var cs:ChannelSet = new ChannelSet();
var customChannel:Channel = new AMFChannel("my-amf", "http://localhost:8400/blazeds/messagebroker/amf");     cs.addChannel(customChannel);
remoteObj.channelSet = cs;
public function writeToConsole():void {      remoteObj.writeToConsole(
"hello from Flash client");
var returnedVal:String = remoteObj.setName().lastResult;     Alert.show(returnedVal);
//[Bindable]
// private var returnedVal:String;

</mx:Script>
<mx:RemoteObject id="remoteObj" destination="sro" />
<mx:Form width="437" height="281">
<mx:FormItem>
</mx:FormItem>
<mx:Button label="Write To Server Console" click="writeToConsole()"/>
</mx:Form>
</mx:WindowedApplication>
Java code
public
public SimpleRemoteObject(){
super();     }
class SimpleRemoteObject {
public void writeToConsole(String msg) {          System.out.println("SimpleRemoteObject.write: " + msg);     }
public String setName(){          System.
out.println("Name changed in Java");
return "Name changed in Java";
And I have configured destination in remote-config.xml
<destination id="sro">
<properties>
SimpleRemoteObject
<scope>application</scope>
</properties>
</destination>
Please help me .

You are not able to get the returned value because if you see the Remote object help you will realise you have to use result="resultfn()" and fault = "faultfn()"
In this you define what you wish to do.
More importantly in the remote object you need to define which method you wish to call using the method class like this
<mx:RemoteObject id="remoteObj" destination="sro" result="r1" fault="f1"  >
<Method name="javaMethodName" result="r2" fault="f2"/>
<mx:RemoteObject>
r2 is the function where you get the result back from java and can use it to send the alert.

• Return values for deadlock handling in BDB-SQLITE

The whitepaper titled "Oracle Berkeley DB SQL API vs.SQLite API – A Technical Evaluation, November 2010" notes that
all programs should be able to handle SQLITE_ERROR or SQLITE_LOCKED while handling potential deadlocks. From the sqlite errorcode page
#define SQLITE_ERROR 1 /* SQL error or missing database */
Further documentation lists SQLITE_ERROR as "This return value indicates that there was an error in the SQL that was passed into the sqlite_exec."
Question 1:
Why is BDB-SQLITE raising a generic errorcode "SQLITE_ERROR" when we have to abort a transaction and start all over again?
While running my test application under intensive load, I have never gotten SQLITE_ERROR. I have gotten SQLITE_LOCKED and occasionally SQLITE_BUSY which is being handled in my code.
Question 2:
Can someone please confirm whether is this indeed is the expected behaviour?
Thank you for your time.

The behavior described in the white paper only applies to Berkeley DB version 5.0, versions 5.1 and beyond do not have this behavior.
In DB-5.0 SQLITE_ERROR is returned when you attempt to use an explicit transaction that has already returned SQLITE_LOCKED. The reason for this is because in BDBSQL (as opposed to SQLite) SQLITE_LOCKED is returned when a transaction is forced to give up its locks because it has entered a state of deadlock with another transaction. Because the transaction has lost its locks it is invalid and cannot be used anymore other than to abort it, that is why SQLITE_ERROR is returned if you continue to use the transaction. In DB-5.1 and beyond SQLITE_LOCKED means only the last operation lost its locks and has been rolled back, the transaction is still good and can still be committed or be used to perform other operations.
I hope this clears up your confusion.

Hello Rajesh,
I do not know if this is the problem in your case, but I would look at the source XML:
<db:OutputParameters xmlns:...
As you can see, the namespace for the db:OutputParameters is db, while you are referring to ns11:OutputParameters in your xpath expression;
getVariableData('InvokeGetItems_GetItemDetails_OutputVariable_1','OutputParameters','/ns11:OutputParameters/ns11:P_ITEMNAME_O')
So I would try to change ns11:OutputParameters to db:OutputParameters, and see if you get lucky?
Cheers,

Getting complex objects back from web service calls are always tricky - especially when they've been desearialized as an object. We've found its a lot easier to deal with the Raw SOAP messages so at least we're working with an XML document, rather than a series of Getter functions, any of which that may return a NULL value (which does really unpleasant things to a CF variable).
When you absolutely have to deal with a complex non-CF originating object in CF, we've found that you can actually use the underlying Java classes to identify and automatically execute the getter functions to effective dump out the variables. We've rolled it up into a custom tag. The base code for the logic is below:
<cfset objVar = VARIABLE_CONTAINING_OBJECT_FROM_WEB_SERVICE>
<cfset arrMethods = objVar.getClass().getMethods()>
<cfoutput>
<cfif isDefined("arrMethods") AND isArray(arrMethods) AND ArrayLen(arrMethods) gt 0>

RESULT

Method

Class

Return Value

<cfset sComplexMethods = "">
<cfloop from="1" to="#ArrayLen(arrMethods)#" index="iMethod">
<cfset sReturnType = arrMethods[iMethod].getReturnType().toString()>
<cfif ListFindNoCase("int,java.lang.String,class java.lang.String,double,float,char", sReturnType)>

#arrMethods[iMethod].getName()#

#sReturnType#

<cfset sReturnValue = EVALUATE("objVar." & arrMethods[iMethod].getName() & "()")>

<cfif isDefined("sReturnValue") AND sReturnValue neq "">#sReturnValue#<cfelse> </cfif>

</cfif>
#sComplexMethods#
</cfloop>

</cfif>
</cfoutput>

• Return Values to Block from Insert Procedure

I have a block with an insert operation performed by a procedure. The insert is working fine.
However, I was assuming that within the procedure I could modify a value in the record (prior to the insert) and then that new value would be returned to the item in the form so the user can see it. (The procedure allocates a unique reference number from a sequence and I would like to display it back on the screen in the reference number field.)
Can anyone help or suggest an alternative?
Thanks

I have a block with an insert operation performed by
a procedure. The insert is working fine.
However, I was assuming that within the procedure I
could modify a value in the record (prior to the
insert) and then that new value would be returned to
the item in the form so the user can see it. (The
procedure allocates a unique reference number from a
sequence and I would like to display it back on the
screen in the reference number field.)It is really disappointing to me that Oracle cannot handle this simple need by specifying DML Return Value using built-in inserting/updating.
I had to write a post-insert trigger in the forms to update the field in the data_block with the value generated by the DB-side pre-insert trigger.

• TestStand response to DLL Return Value

I've inherited a TestStand sequence that calls a DLL in several of the steps. The DLL's 'Return Value' is set as follows: 'Type' = U8. 'Result Action' = No Action, and the 'Set Error.Code' box is checked. I want to know what these settings do, what triggers a Step Failure, and what triggers a Step Error.

I am not aware of a specific document that describes the order of operations, but it should be nearly identical to C syntax.
The basics of that expression are as follows:
If the data source is not Step.Result.PassFail (not the default case), Evaluate the Step.DataSource property and store the result in Step.Result.PassFail. Otherwise do nothing. The comma means there is new statement, and the last statement is what assigns the result status to the step (this must be a string). It the PassFail variable is true, it sets the step to "Passed", otherwise it sets it to "Failed".

• Unable to capture return values in web services api

At the time of login to web services if my server is down ,
it returns following error :
java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1438)
at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1411)
I want to capture this error so that i can try another server to login. how do i capture this error
Another place where i want to capture the return Value is when i look for a report on the server
rh = boBIPlatform.get("path://InfoObjects/Root Folder/"src_folder"/" + reportName +
"@SI_SCHEDULEINFO,SI_PROCESSINFO" ,oGetOptions);
oInfoObjects = rh.getInfoObjects();
CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
Here if the report is not there on the server , it returns a null handler exception.
but if i try catching it by checking my responsehandler is null like rh == null it does not catch it.
Any help will be appreciated
thanks

Ted : i have two cases
1)   server = server_st.nextToken();
providerURL = "http://"server"/dswsbobje/services";
sessConnURL = new URL(providerURL + "/session");
Connection boConnection = new Connection(sessConnURL);
Session boSession = new Session(boConnection);
EnterpriseCredential boEnterpriseCredential = new    EnterpriseCredential();
boEnterpriseCredential.setLogin(userid);
boEnterpriseCredential.setPassword(pwd);
boEnterpriseCredential.setAuthType(auth);
SessionInfo boSI = boSession.login(boEnterpriseCredential);
I have got a list of servers running web servcies stored in my tokens. when i pass the first server name say " test:8080" and that server is down , i want to catch somewhere in the code above that it did not get the connection so that i can loop back and try with the second server say test1:8080
This is for failover purposes.
at present when i was trying to capture return value of boSI it breaks giving the error
java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1438)
at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1411)
2nd case :
I am geeting reports from the server and scheduling them:
i run the following code which works fine if reports is there
rh = boBIPlatform.get("path://InfoObjects/Root Folder/"src_folder"/" + reportName +
"@SI_SCHEDULEINFO,SI_PROCESSINFO" ,oGetOptions);
oInfoObjects = rh.getInfoObjects();
CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
Here if the report is not there on the server then i should be able to catch from the response handle rh that it has got a null value.
but rh does not return a null value
the code ultimately throws a null handle at the following line
CrystalReport = (CrystalReport)oInfoObjects.getInfoObject(0);
i am not able to catch the null value there also.
hope you got my issue.
