Superdrive not burning

I burned a CD in iTunes a few days ago, and it was fine. Last nite I tired to do the same, and it goes through initializing, and then says "burning song" then I get an error saying it was unable to burn, device error. I tried burning in iPhoto just to see what happened, and got the same error. I have restarted, and still encounter the same error. I googled the exact wording of the error (which I don't have access to at the moment) and found only one instance of it mentioned online, in another forum, where the only advice give was a clean install, which I'd really prefer not to do, not to mention the person with the problem never followed up to say if that helped. Any advice? It still recognizes, plays and imports audio cds.

Things got much worse after all this, I took it to the genius bar and we ended up doing a clean install (I was able to back up everything important). I was just going to post that the burning problem remained though, but I tried it a second time, and it's now working.
I have learned some important stuff from all of this though: I need to check the permissions and run disk first aid every month or so. Why didn't I know that? I am letting all my mac using friends (most of them, thank goodness ;)) know to do that.

  • Superdrive not burning DVD's

Well I tried to burn a DVD on my iMac(Intel) and I use iDVD all the time on my MacBook, but this is the first time that I have used it on my iMac(Intel) and it read a message "Your Macintosh does not have the supported Superdrive" and said that I can't burn a DVD. So I checked what kind of DVD Drive I had via "About This Mac", and it showed me I had the capability and that it was a superdrive not a combo drive. Also I thought all iMac's come standard with DVD burning. Is there something wrong with my Superdrive, or iDVD?????

What are you calling an iDVD?  Is it a disk you formerly burned with iDVD?  Is it just a DVD-R or DVD+R you are trying to burn something on?    Starting July 20, 2011 Apple stopped including iDVD on Macs, and sold it separately as part of iLife '11 through the non-App Store.  Is that what you are missing and expecting to see come up when you enter a blank DVD?    Or are you missing iDVD because you might have an older version of it that used to run in Rosetta, and now doesn't because you are running 10.7 or later?  Or did you insert  blank DVD and the Finder didn't know what to do with it?

  • 2010 Mac mini Superdrive not burning DVD's

My mac mini is not burning DVD's right. I put in a 500GB harddrive a few months back and the SATA cables are attached correct. I can read DVD's but writing DVD's doesn't work. The process finishes but when after I eject the disc I can see that nothing is burning in the inner most part of the disc. When I put the disc back in the computer thinks the disc hasn't been burned and asks if it shuld be open in finder like a blank disc. I know a cd/dvd should burn from the center and spiral outward as it writes more data but it seems the disc is offset when it writes its first data, leaving the inner most part of the disc blank. Maybe I should reformat the OS and start from scratch to see if that helps. Any other ideas?

Strange these Memorex DVD's worked flawlessly a couple of times then I started getting these srange burns. I think I'm going to blitz this install I'm backing up with time machine now so I'll see what happens. Is there anyway to reapply an EFI update to make sure nothing is corrupt? I did notice what looked like brownish black burns on the logicboard when I opened it up to put the new harddrive in. They were on the long solder traces where they test the logic board by the the logic boards sata connections. I keep the system on 24/7 but don't really play any 3d or do anything that is too processor intense. Another thing is the superdriver seems to favor the left side when a DVD is initially inserted and ejected but moves to the conter when pressed all the way in I can't remember that being normal.

  • Superdrive will not burn on mountain lion

After installing mountain lion on iMac, superdrive will not burn or recognize cd/dvd. Have tried several different brands and burning software with same results.

If you have a CD or DVD, insert the disk and see what happens. If the drive kicks back the disk or gives you some kind of error message, then it's most likely a hardware issue, and might require a repair. However, if the drive seems to work fine mechanically, then it's a software issue.

  • SuperDrive will not burn dvds

I can burn CDs,play CDs and watch DVDs. I can not burn DVDs. I have iLife but I cannot run iDVD because it is not compatible with of my version of OS. Why I don't know. Why should I have to buy every upgrade that come out? I can live with that, sort of, but why can't I burn a data DVD? I looked for a new driver but there does not seem to be one for Leopard. will I have to buy iLife 09 to bun a DVD?

  • Idvd will not burn after upgrade to maverick

    Hello-
I just upgraded to maverick and now iDVD will not burn a DVD - says it does not have a compatible superdrive. It was working fine until I upgraded. How can I burn a nice DVD now?

Suggestion only. Before launching, did you also check for updates via apple's software updater?

  • Will not burn photos to disc

iPhoto will not burn photos to a DVD disc(Maxell DVD+R).
    iMac response is:
"The burn to the SuperDrive drive failed. The disc drive didn’t respond properly and can’t recover or retry."
These Maxell DVD's are probably 2+ years old. However, I was able to burn 2 disc early this morning. Could it be a heat problem with the SuperDrive?
    Your Thoughts?

If you have burned 5 or 6 disc in a row then maybe heat could be a concern.  I don't think so with just 2.  Are you able to burn a disc, CD or DVD, from the Finder or is it just from iPhoto?

  • Since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) - i can not burn Data-DVDs anymore...

    System: iMac G4, 1GHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.5, 4x SuperDrive (SONY DVD RW DW-U10A)
    Dear Apple Support,
since Mac OS X 10.4.4 (same with 10.4.5) i can not burn a Data DVD-RW anymore. It is so annoying. I want to burn my backup on a DVD-RW with the Burn Folders in Mac OS X. it is not possible.
The Finder burn dialog hangs at the "ending burning process". It is so annoying.
It's not possible to erase this "half burned" DVD-RW too! So I have here a lot of destroyed DVD-RWs around me...
The burning of DVD-RWs is a problem since 10.4.0 here on my machine. With 10.4.3 it was half o.k. ... But since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) nothing works anymore.
Your product "Mac OS X Tiger" is nearly one year in the market. And burning a Data-DVD is not a exotical thing. It is a essential feature of a Operating System today. So what are you doing in your Test-Labs?
I am sitting here since 1 year with an Operating System from Apple an it doesn't works in the essential features.
Whats about your slogan "It just works"?
What happens with the quality of Apple?
Under 10.3.9 Panther i can burn everything. It absolutly no problem there.
So i don't understand what are you doing with Tiger?
    It's so annoying!
    Regards
    Roessner

  • Will Not Burn DVD: Error code 0x8002006D

    Hello
I have a 12" PowerBook G4 fitted with a SuperDrive running Tiger 10.4.11. My machine will still play & burn CD's it will still play DVD's but it will not burn DVD's.
When trying to burn a DVD it comes up with following message:
Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred
    (Error code 0x8002006D).
I am trying to burn using Verbatim DVD-R, which I have successfully used in the past.
Any ideas what the problem is, and are there any possible solutions?
    Thanks for any help.

I've never had any issues with it either, I still think it's a good utility.
For burners, an external would be easiest to use as it plugs into a port on the machine. The lacie burners are ok, overall decent software & firmware support. I tore my apart to use the drive in a G4 tower, software all still works!
Get one that can use firewire & usb. the PPC will boot from a firewire external DVD & it could also be used later, if needed, on a machine that doesn't have FW.
Another option is macsales.com here in the States sells the exact same slot drive apple does for about $90. They do ship internationally, about $25 USD to London. If you want an internal solution this would be the way to go.

  • Still no fix for superdrive not reading any disc at all?

I've searched through the forum and it seems like there's still no solution for the superdrive not reading any sort disc at all. I have had this imac for almost a month. I rarely have used the superdrive but was trying to play a normal audio cd tonight and upon further investigation found that the drive is not reading any type of disc.
If a disc is loaded, the drive whirs/beeps 4-5 times while trying to read the disc and then ejects it. this happens for dvd movies, audio cds, osx install disc, etc.
I did successfully play and rip some cds a few weeks ago when the imac was first purchased. I have not inserted discs often enough in the past to substantiate that upgrading to 10.4.5 or 10.4.6 affected the drive's performance.
Think I need a new drive or could this be software related?
imac intel core duo 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    I want "solved"
You can add me to the list too - I check this page frequently for a reply from an apple representative - to no avail.
My computer is less than 2 years old, purchased brand spankin' new, w/o the warrantee - but hey when you pay that much for your 'puter it should not break down at ANY time during (at least) the first 5 years, unless gross negligence and disregard is involved (which is is not).
I would not categorize myself as being in the 'high usage' category for burning either dvd's or cd's, but here I am less than 2 yrs after purchase w/ a superdrive that can't even read a store-bought cd, and oddly enough the problems I am having DO seem to coincide w/ download of a 'security update.'
    Hmmmm......
I would like, at the very least, a helpful suggestion from someone working for Apple - if not an acknowledgement of an actual issue with a faulty (expensive) product.
A guarantee of satisfaction with a purchase should not be wrapped up in purchase of a service plan - good customer service is good policy, and should be provided as a means of standing behind the quality of a product you both sell, and believe in.
There is no good reason why my computer should be broken, and there is no good reason why it shouldn't be fixed - and I see a lot of you have even more reason for complaint than I do. It is irksome in the extreme that this issue seems not to warrant the attention from anyone who can make a difference to our plight.
One would think that a drop-down menu on an official web-site would have a better response rate from affiliated 'professionals' - but we all know the old adage about assuming...
Hey - maybe customer service really is dead - and I might believe that if it weren't for the fact that I respond, personally, to customer e-mails on a daily basis...
    Where is our response?
I apologize for the lengthy "blog" - but short and sweet hasn't done the trick..maybe this will?? We can only hope...

  • USB superdrive not working with Mac Pro

Is there a trick to getting a USB Superdrive working with a Macpro?
The drive in the Macpro no longer ejects and have tried connecting the USB drive to both the front and back ports - does it not work with Mac Pros?
Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

I had a problem my superdrive. It would play dvd's and cd's that were already burnt but would not burn blank DVDs or CDs- in the recent past it had no problems burning. In addition, the Finder would not display the superdrive. When I put a blank disc in it would go to Disk Utilities and would not allow burning. With help from Apple I discovered the problem-- The settings in CDS & DVDs had been changed from When you insert a blank DVD/CD "Ask what to do to  to  "GO to Disk Utilities". If this sounds like your problem try changing the settings to this:
Try going to; System Preferences/ CDs & DVDs
Change these two settings to this:
When you insert a blank CD: Ask what to do
When you insert a blank DVD: Ask what to do
NOTE: If they are already set to this you probably have a different problem. If they are set to Go to Disk Utilitiy this is probably a solution.
    And
    Then go to Finder Preferences
Make sure that under "Show these items on desktop:" that the checkbox for CDs, DVDs, and iPods is checked.
Try to burn the DVD again (reload Disc- perhaps restart) and try again.
Don't know how these setting changed but they did. It worked for me.
