Support wireless 5 ghz band

Does my ENVY dv6-7229WM support the wireless 5 ghz band on a dual band router?

Dave

Hi, Dave:
According to the product specs for your model at the link below, the wireless only works on the 2.4 GHz band.
http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-dv6-7200-Notebook-PC-series/5296055/model/5309506/docume...
You can tell that because of the 802.11b/g/n WLAN wireless connectivity specification.
Anytime you see a wireless card suffix of bgn that means it is a single band (2.4 GHz) wireless card.
Dual band wireless N cards have a suffix of either abgn or agn.
The parts list for your model confirms that the wireless card in your notebook is a single band card.

  • Wireless module change in pavilion DV7 (amd), to give support for GHz fequency

    Hi
Can someone please tell me which wireless module would be best suited (compatible) to the pavilion dv7(amd) so that it might support the GHz "n" type signal.  Currently it has the broadcom 4313b/g/n, which although has n in the description, does not actually support GHz!  I have looked on the dv7 support manual and it lists Atheros AR9280 802.11a/b/g/n as a part used in the laptops, but I can currently locate a new one, only used from USA.  I would be most grateful if someone could tell me which would be the best replacement and from where to purchase it, if possible.
    Thanks

    Hi @h20roks ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7 and  getting the BSOD and shutting down. I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Not rollback.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that could need updating.
    Hope this helps you.

For industry standard specifications, google is our friend.

I don't know the answer to the question, but I know this isn't it. Google may be our friend, but so is reading comprehension.

  • Can't connect PC on 5 GHZ band

I have a new laptop with Dell WLAN 1510 card in it.  I tried to connect on teh 5 ghz band but it just failed, as soon as I set the router to 2.4 ghz band it connected OK.  Do I need to do anything special to connect at 5 ghz such as different encryption or channel etc?

What is the model no of the Router....?
Try to change the wireless channel on the router and check if that helps !!!

  • 5 Ghz band and Macbook pro

I use Airport Extreme with dual band but my Macbook pro doesn't connect with 5 Ghz band even if I'm near base Airport. Only one or two times I had a 5 Ghz connection with my mac. How could I set base Airport or Mac to connect always with 5 Ghz. Thank you

You might want to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network so you can "point" your Mac directly at that band to connect.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon and then click Edit in the box that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
Click the Wireless Options button at the bottom of the window
Enter a check mark next to 5 GHz Network Name and "(5 GHz)" will be added to the name of the 5 GHz network signal so that you can identify which network you want your Mac to connect to
    Click Save, then click Update
If your Mac still has trouble connecting to 5 GHz when it is close to the AirPort Extreme, the wireless card in the Mac may be acting up. Normally, you would not need to point the Mac to the 5 GHz signal if it is close to the router as it should connect automatically when in close proximity to the AirPort Extreme.

  • Can I dedicate the 5 GHz band to one specific devise?

I've got the new Dual band n Airport Extreme (AE) that I would like to dedicate the 5GHz band to one specific devise and have all others use 2.4.  My goal is giving the most 'horsepower' to my work laptop upstairs, all others can use the 2.4.  Being on another floor, I need all the help I can get with strong connections and good performnace.
    Short and sweet bullets include:
    Current Devices:
-Dell laptop for work. 5GHz band card will be installed shortly.
-iMac, Lion OS, 3 mos old.  Recently hard wired to the AE as perofrmance was spotty when connected wirelessly even though the AE is 20 ft away.
    -iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, iPad (1st gen)
-HP printer wirelessly connected to the AE
-An old Droid I connect to the internet once in a blue moon
-A blue ray player (rarely use to stream Nexflix)
-HD TV with access to Netflix, etc (rarly use)
Smat folks will quickly notice only the laptop can access the 5GHz band given my iMac (only devise 5Ghz) is hardwired.  That will change....Apple TV will be purchased.  Also, 1 yr old son may say "hey this cord looks great, why I dont I pull it to see what falls first, the iMac or AE".  This question answers near-term questions as I expand devices and helps really prepair for my next 2-3 devices.
I understand the process of setup a seprate name for the 5GHz band.  Guidance needed- How do you "point" the laptop to the 5GHz band.  I've looked fo the option on my iMac (previos to hardwiring it) wiht no luck.  My chaallenge is figuring out how have the laptop read adn connect to the 5GHz band automatically...I don't have the setup to automatically have devised choose which band whey would like to use.  i've looked numerous arcieles and I can find where people describe in sufficien detail  >>>>Please be as specific as possible on each step is required to get my laptop to recogize and connect with the 5GHz band.
    Some addtl questions
1- Can I tell which devise is connected with an n, g, b, whatever band?  I dont want anything degreading the bandwitch of the 2.4 GH2 band.
Can you tell which devises are using those bands (n,g, ?) bands.  As i understand, in this specific case, if I have 20 different devisce all using the 4Ghz band,  I want to make sure my laptop gets the best performance.
    Thanks!

You already have assigned a separate name to the 5 GHz band on the router, so to have a Mac connect to that band, you would do the following:
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Open Network
    Click on AirPort or Wi-Fi
Click Advanced at the lower right
Make sure that the name of the 5 GHz network is first in line at the top of the connection order list. Drag it to the top if it's not already there.
Delete any other networks that you no longer need by clicking on them to highlight them, and then clicking the - (minus) button at the bottom of the list.
Make sure that there is a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined"
No other boxes should be checked
Then open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access, locate the listing for the networks that you no longer needed, and delete the entry for each of them.
I would like to see how (b/g or n) my other devises are connecting to the Airport Extreme.
Open AirPort Utillty 5.x, select the AirPort Extreme, and click Manual Setup
Click on Wireless Clients about 2/3 of the way down the page
The window will display the MAC address of each wireless device along with info about the connection. You will need to do a bit of investigative work to figure out which MAC address matches up with each wireless device.
My understanding is that a router will use the lowest of the connections (if one devise is connecting via b, all other devises will connect b).
No, that is a common tale that we hear, but it is not correct. Each wireless device will connect to either 2.4 GHz or 5 Ghz based on its capabilities. It will do the same as far as whether it connects at "n", "g", or "b" speeds. For example, my laptop connects at "n" speeds while my old iPhone connects at "g" speed.  The slower iPhone connection has virtually no impact on the "n" connection with the laptop.
I used a wi-fi analyzer to determine the best channel, and it indicated chanel 14 was the best.
If you are in the U.S. or Canada, then you can only use channels 1-11 on the 2.4 GHz band. The U.K. uses channels 1-13.

  • Does Cisco NAC support Wireless LAN?

    Hi There
I know Cisco NAC supports Wireless LAN. I have deployed this myself with various brands of Autonomous APs. These works fine only in in-band mode, not in out-of-band mode.
However, Cisco did mentioned for Cisco AP, with Cisco NAC and Cisco switches, out-of-band is supported. I tried this today, and it's either Cisco is wrong, which is highly unlikely, or I did not configure either the NAC portion or the Cisco AP correctly, which is most likely? I wonder where did I go wrong? Please somebody, advice me on this?

    Hi Ramraj,
You can do out-of-band with Wireless deployments now, however you must have a Wireless Lan Controller managing your APs. You cannot do it with standalone APs.
The guide below goes through most of the configuration:

  • Configuring 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands on my Linksys 610N: How to do it?

I have just recently bought a 610N router because of its dual band features.
While I have successfully installed the router and am running my mostly Windows 7 home network with it, I do not know how to configure the dual band feature.
I would like my main desktop PC, which runs Windows 7 with an Asus N13 Wireless N wifi card, to access the 5 GHz band, and everything else the 2.4 Ghz band.
Going into the router configuration/setup menu, it looks like it has named the 5 Ghz band as 'Network Name'_media and the 2.4 Ghz band as 'Network Name'.
When I access the wireless network from any computer, however, I only see one network.
Shouldn't I see two networks, one for each band?
Otherwise, how do I manually assign my clients to the radio band that I want them to be assigned to?

Your Router is an Dual Band Wireless Router, But the Wireless Adapters on your computer should be a Dual Band Wireless Router, then only you will be able to see 5GHz wireless network on your computer, If they are not capable of seeing 5Ghz wireless network, then they will only connect to 2.4GHz wireless network.
As you are able to see only2.4Ghz wireless network on your computer, then i think the wireless adapter on your computers are not Dual Band Wireless Adapter.

  • Connect to 5 GhZ Band on Cisco E3000 (with Macbook Pro)

    Hi,
I just recently bought the Cisco E3000 and I set it up and such and everything works great (set-up ran through my computer).  The only problem I have is that my own macbook pro won't connect to the 5 Ghz band and I don't know how to make it connect to it.  My brother's old macbook and new macbook connect fine to the 5 Ghz.  And my parent's older PC laptops connect to the 2.4 Ghz band.   I googled this problem and I saw that other people tried to assign a different name to the 5 Ghz band and then to assign the computer's preference to that but I don't know how to create a unique name for each band.
Please help me!!  Thanks a ton!!!  Any help would be appreciated!!

Which network adapter you are using on your Mac computer....?
Make sure that the adapter you are using on your Mac computer should 5Ghz network. If it support then, you can try by changing the wireles channel on the router. To change the channel or the network name on the router, open the Cisco Connect software and go to Advance settings, there you can open the setup page of the router and make the required changes.

  • Re using AE as an extender: do I need to choose the 2.4 ghz band to have it work with iPhone?  If so, how do I do that?

I have AT&T Uverse service, so I use my Airport Extreme as an extender.  However, it doesn't seem to have an effect on my iPhone: I can stand right next to the AE and not get a good signal.  I read somewhere that the iPhone only uses the 2.4 ghz band.  If my AE is set to use the 5 ghz band, how would I instruct it to use the 2.4 ghz band?

I have AT&T Uverse service, so I use my Airport Extreme as an extender.
Unfortunately, the AirPort Extreme is not compatible with the Uverse router if you are tying to "extend" using wireless only.
However, it doesn't seem to have an effect on my iPhone: I can stand right next to the AE and not get a good signal.
The Extreme can only "join" a Uverse wireless network...normally for use with an AirPort Express with AirTunes.  The Extreme does not provide any additional wireless coverage when it "joins" a network. That is why you notice no improvement in the wireless signal.
Apple's "extend" setting is a proprietary feature that will only work with other Apple routers. In other words, to have an Apple device "extend a wireless network", you need to have another Apple device providing the wireless network.
If you want the Extreme to provide more wireless coverage, you will need to connect it to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Uverse rotuer with a wired Ethernet connection from the WAN port on the Extreme.

  • How can I tell if WES610N is using 5 GHz band?

    Hello,
I'm using a WES610N Media Connector with my Blu-Ray player to stream video.  The router is an EA3500 -- I used the smart, one-touch WiFi setup to do the setup for the WES610N.
How can I tell if the Media Connector is using the 5 GHz band vs. the 2.4 GHz band?
Is there a way t interrogate it while it is connected to my Blu-Ray player in another room?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

Yes. Agreed with sabretooth. There's no way for us to identify on what band your WES610N is connected to unless you'll create a different SSID's on both 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz bands.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • IPad remote app on 5 ghz band

Can anyone help? On my ipad  original and iPad 3 I cannot get the remote app to work for connecting to Apple TV or iTunes library when using the 5 ghz band of my NETGEAR wndr 3700 router. It displays the symbols in the remote app fine but after a while returns message that it cannot connect. If I revert to 2.4 ghz all works fine! I struggle to see what is wrong because my Apple TV and my pc running iTunes are both connected permanently to the 5 ghz band. The router has Ben rebooted and firmware is upto date. When using airplay from my iPads to the Apple TV using the 5 ghz channel all works absolutely great. It's just the remote app that won't work. But in 2.4 ghz connection on my iPads it then w irks great and fast. I think maybe a remote app (2.4 version) bug? Any ideas? Original ipad runs ios 5.1.1 and iPad 3 runs ios 6.01
Everything else works normally including streaming apps etc on 5 ghz it's just the remote app
    Cheers

There may be an issue using the Netgear router, but Remote works fine on my Apple Time Capsule's 5Ghz network controlling both my 1G and 2G ATVs.

  • Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the new MacBook Pro retina in an extended display mode?

Does Apple TV support wireless connection to the MacBook Pro retina display in an extended display mode? What is the output resolution and is sound also transmitted across?

SB1983, by extended display do you mean mirror?  All MBP since early 2011 support it if they are running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  The resolution will depend on your Apple TV (2 Gen is 720 and 3rd Gen 1080) and wifi, it will lose some quality but I find it minimal.  It does also mirror the sound.

Different names for the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks are optional, but can be convenient for you to distinguish one from another. It's up to you.

  • Does the iPhone 4S support the 5GHz band?

While the iPhone 4 supported 803.11(n), it did so only on the 2.4GHz band.  I can't find any information about this for the 4S.  Does anyone know if it supports the 5Ghz band?
Sorry....I asked too quickly.  The answer is NO.  See http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

No, it does not state that.
