Suppressing error messages from stderr

I am using JNI to connect to some C++ code (which I did not write myself) that has been compiled into DLLs. The writers of the C++ code found it necessary to spam a lot of status messages to stderr (using fprintf(stderr, "spam message")) and I want to suppress that output so that it doesn't show up in the console when my Java application is running. I have tried the following but it hasn't worked:
PrintStream out = System.out;
PrintStream err = System.err;
System.setOut(new PrintStream(new OutputStream() {
public void write(int arg0) throws IOException {}
System.setErr(new PrintStream(new OutputStream() {
public void write(int arg0) throws IOException {}
// call native methods
System.setOut(out);
System.setErr(err);
Does anyone else know how I can suppress the messages? Thanks

redirect stderr to /dev/null ?

  • How do I suppress error messages from displaying in GPIB calls?

    I use GPIB Read and GPIB Write to access instruments on the bus. Both vi's supply status on error out.
    I sometimes call these routines in situations where I do NOT want to reap error status, so I leave the error out terminal unconnected.
    Here's the problem: I get error popups that display the GPIB errors (when there are some)  even though I don't connect the error out terminals to simple error or general error.
    How can I suppress the error messages??? I do NOT want them to display...
    As always, thanks in advance for the assist!!!

    PROBLEM SOLVED.
    Thanks gentlemen. But... now I have to defend myself!
    1. I have both old non-488.2 and newer 488.2 instruments on the same bus. When I send *IDN? to the old instruments, they generate errors. When I send model-specific (non 488.2) commands to the newer stuff, they sometimes error. I have to 'search' the bus and identify specific instruments (by mfg/model) that I'm looking for; I don't know what address they're at. So I go thru a loop (the index is the GPIB address) and for each address I try the old-style probe; if it fails, the new style; if neither succeeds, no one is home at that address. The problem is that in cases where I try the wrong probe for the device first, it frequent gets 'trapped' in the input buffer of that device causing it to incorrectly respond to its correct probe when I finally get to it. So I have to clear the device before sending it the probe to make sure its listening. Can't use *CLR since many devices don't recognize it; and since I can't send a command (yet) because the device is screwed up. So.... I figured out what I have to do to get the devices listening. The NEAT-3xx controllers are happy *after* they receive a null command with a LF (EOS) character - but they generate errors while processing the digital enema just described. The HP spectrum analyzers I use work fine when they get *IDN?, but generate an error on the bus when they receive the probe designed to get the NEAT controller to respond. So what I do is always send an EOS character first to each address before each probe - and then issue a GPIB read. I ignore the errors generated, and the data returned. Then when I probe, I always get a good response (if the probe type matches the device!) instead of an artifact from the garbage the instrument had to listen to. It's like drinking a beer after your wife calls you and nags - it clears your head and makes you ready to move forward. So now you know why sometimes I wanna ignore errors, but thanks for asking.
    2. Why don't I use VISA? Well, find me a VISA driver for the NEAT-3xx family of controllers, and I will... I use raw GPIB reads/writes (and nothing else) in my 'scan the bus and probe each address' loop described above. I use raw GPIB commands for the NEAT controllers, and VISA for the HP. You guys designed this stuff, not me... What I don't know (and what you might help me with) is whether there's a 'raw' interface that allows you to talk to instruments using VISA calls when there is NOT a VISA driver for the device... kinda like "I wanna use the GPIB read/write, but use the VISA interface so all my code looks the same" deal...
    Thanks again!

  • Suppress Flash Player Error Messages from Browser?

    I'm well aware of try catch functions, but in general is
    there a simple setting to suppress browsers from displaying

    I have searched through every book, forum, and found nothing

  • Suppress error message in 10g

    using
    :system.message_level:=25;
    commit;
    :system.message_level:=0;
    i can suppress error message in froms 9i but when i run that form in iAS10g
    the message "no changes to save" does not suppress.

    It's not a good idea to suppress error messages. If there is a problem, then you (or user) won't know.
    If you are using the system.message_level only to try and suppress, the "no changes to save" message, then a better way is to check if there are changes before doing the commit. Like this:
    IF :System.Form_Status = 'CHANGED' THEN
    Commit_Form;
    END IF;

  • Flash Player error messages from browser?

    Hello.
    So a client I'm building assorted things for gets these annoying error dialog boxes popping up in web pages that I never see myself. But they are akin to those I would see if I were running a SWF locally from my hard drive in my Flash Player. I've tested for these errors repeatedly on different servers and different computers and am coming to the conclusion that there is something peculiar about the way their Flash Player in their browser(s) is configured. Have they somehow installed a debug mode of Flash Player? Have they turned on some annoying verbose mode? If so how do I tell them how to turn it off so that they can realize that the way things look in their office are not remotely representative of the way Flash is rendering things on 95% of the computers in the world (and 100% of the computers I have tested things on)?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Force copy/suppress error messages?

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to copy my extremely fragmented 40gb photo library from an extremely slow external HD to my mac HD. After it spends hours getting halfway there, I get an error saying it can't copy, and the operation fails. Is there any way I can copy to have it suppress error messages, skip the problematic files, and copy the whole batch without stopping?
    Thanks!
    Alec

    Without a 3rd Party APP, I use Tri-Backup for this, you likely will just have to keep pluggibg away, or try smaller chunks, or perhaps Carbon Copy Cloner...

  • When I use the shortcut to open a new window in safari (command N), I get a 404 error message from Google. How do I change where 'Command N' routes to?

    When I use the shortcut to open a new window in safari (command N) on my Macbook Pro, I get a 404 error message from Google. How do I change where 'Command N' routes to?

    It's not necessary to change the Command N keystroke..
    From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
    Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
    If that didn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
    From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
    If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • I am unable to print PDF's using either Adobe Reader or Safari. In Adobe Reader, I get an error message from my Cannon printer that says, "/usr.libexec/cups/filter/pstocupsraster failed". In Safari, I can only print the first page of a PDF.

    To try to resolve this problem, I have done the following actions.
    1 - I have run Disk Warrior.
    2 - I have repaired permissions.
    3 - I have deleted all plist that are either Cannon or Adobe.
    4 - I have downloaded and installed the lastest versions of Adobe Reader and the Cannon printer drivers.
    I am still unable to print PDF's.
    In Safari, I can print only the first page. In a multipage PDF, Safari only seems to recognize the first page.
    In Adobe Reader, I get an error message from my printer: "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstocupsraster failed".
    Any help would be greatly appreicated!

    Relaunch Safari and test.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Select "/var/log/cups/error_log" from the file list. Post the messages from the time of the last printing attempt.
    Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

    I tried to update the data targets from the initial ODS manualy but in vain.
    Any Help is awarded with points.

    Hi,
      Goto Info pack -> on menu bar select scheduler -> select init options for source system -> one request with green status -> select it and  click on delete symbol , it will delete the init. you can cross verify this in the base ODS where you dint find data mart status(after refresh). now  select init delta process under that select init without data transfer and schedule the load it will update one record and init flag to your source ODS.
    Note: if the last request is not updated from soruce ods to targets for that also you will find data mart status for this select the particular data mart -> click on delete symbol it will delete for the particular request (if it is updated to target it will not allow you to delete) then do delta load it will update the request which is not loaded from source ods to next targets.

  • Error message from Internet Explorer v8.0.6

    My Muse test site is currently on Business Catalyst. The url is http://wfax-test.businesscatalyst.com — my client says that they get an error message from Internet Explorer version 8.0.6 "MuseJSAssert: error calling selector function: error: a security problem occurred". The good news is that this only appears on the "Schedule" page of the site. Any idea what it could be? My client is afraid for me to put the site online because of this error message.

    Hi Artby,
    In your page, you have a link to "http://[email protected]//[email protected]" (Saturday Afternoon at 3:00). This link is technically a valid link, but I'm not sure it is what you intended. If you where looking to create an email there, you should remove the http:// in front of the link and Muse should properly create an email link. If you were trying to go to a website, I'd recommend you check the URL again to make sure you have it right.
    The link is throwing a security error because we have to do some extra processing for some of our links, so we check each of the urls and try to determine if there is extra logic we need. In this case, this link is telling the browser you'd like to "login" to the site qemi.org with the username "apostle". IE 8, by default, will block us from reading information from this type of link in case there is a password, or in case we shouldn't know the username. It is a security measure (thus the error) and should pose no risk.
    If you did intend to have that URL, then this won't quite work at the moment in Muse. To work around this, you could pull out this small snippet into a custom HTML element or something, which Muse won't try and process (though you'd need to remove the class "nonblock" from the link if you copy/pasted the Muse export code).
    Hope that helps,
    Andrew

  • Error message from ABAP to BW portal

    Hi
    I need to write error message from ABAP to BW portal.
    If I write as usual: message E001(ZBW).
    Then I get a dump in portal.
    Does anyone know how to post error message in this case?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    You need to use the function module RRMS_MESSAGE_HANDLING to post any kind of messages in the report output/web template or portal.
    You can pass the values trough the below parameters:
                  I_CLASS  = 'ZBW'
                  I_TYPE   = 'W'
                  I_NUMBER = '006'
