Sure Signal

Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem, I have had a vodafone sure signal box since November and it has worked brilliantly with BT infinity until about a week ago when phones started to come up with a congestion message and all the lights on the box came on. Vodafone reloaded the software and then replaced the box but I still have the same problem, I wonder if its a problem with Vodafone or with BT infinity, any ideas both suppliers seem unsure.

not sure who is at fault but if it is coming up with a congestion message to me that implies a problem with the mobile phone network rather then infinity

  • Vodafone Sure Signal problem due to BT stability

Just a quick post to help any Vodafone Sure Signal users who are struggling to make calls.
There are major compatibility issues between SS and the various BT hubs. Go to the vodafone forum to see how many people are struggling to make calls and many suggestions on what to do. I am surprised no one has started a 'class action' against Vodafone!
This post relates to a different problem as I am one of the lucky ones who has managed to get the hub & SS talking to each other properly.
I recently returned from holiday to find that my Sure Signal wouldn't work at all. Classic problem all three lights on but no calls in or out. Tech support sorted it out and it started working --- well sort of!
However over half the time I just got a beep when trying to make a call and never received incoming calls. Anyway after a lot of investigations I noticed that stability of the 'Ping' (latency) on the line was absolutely awful. It didn't affect browsing too much but clearly the SS is very susceptible to lost packets and long ping times.
Spoke with BT Tech Experts who asked me to monitor and report back to them.
I found a piece of software that automates the ping testing called surprise surprise Ping Tester see   www  pingtester.net You can run it in eval mode.
I set it to ping Google every hour for 1000 seconds and found that about 8% of the pings were getting lost and that a considerable amount of the time the ping was over 200ms.
Monitoring started on a Saturday but I didnt start recording the info till Sunday. Then miraculously on Monday morning some time after 9.17 am on Monday the problem went away. (8% lost pings to zero) I suspect that a BT engineer reset something but have no proof of this.
Anyway the problem has gone away for now. See below for actual results. The records for 10 am - 1.00 pm are missing because I left the spreadsheet open and ping tester couldn't write to the file.
I am continuing to monitor the ping and have noticed occasional deteriorations for a couple of hours but so far it has always returned to zero lost pings.

I assume that the Vodaphone box connects via an Ethernet cable?
Which port do you have it plugged into, as there are issues with the Gigabit ports, where packets are lost due to auto-negotiation issues on the Ethernet link.
The Ethernet link pulses on some hardware devices, get corrupted, causing the Gigabit ports to keep swapping between 1Gb and 100Mb, this results in packet loss.
This can be overcome on a computer, by setting the network card to 1Gb Full Duplex, and not Auto Negotiate.
I doubt that this option is available on the Vodaphone device.

  • Vodafone Sure Signal problems

    Hi
Has anybody got Sure Signal working on BT Infinity? Mine works for 30 secs and then just recycles. I have searched on this forum and one poster has "solved" against this topic but with no answer to the problem. http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/BT-Infinity-Port-Forwarding-and-Vodafone-Sure-Signal/m-p/61730
    Thanks for any help.
    Richard

hi there.  after what i think is a total fluke, my sure signal box is working.  i got infinity on monday and sure signal today.  set sure signal up as pr instructions, and nothing.  after reading the internet i turned off my new hubs firewall, and set vpn to port clapping and still no bars.  thought that i would have to downgrade infinity back to normal broadband as my phone is my working life.  while on the phone to bt to downgrade, it came on, about 3 hours after i have set it all up.  when i spoke to vodafone, they said that it wouldn't work, the fact that infinity is pppoe and not pppoa being the problem.  anyway, baffled, but its on and working.  currently enjoying full five bars on an iphone 4, with 3g and everything.

  • Vodafone Sure Signal and SKY Fibre Optic Broadband

Please help, I have had no Mobile Phone signal for over 6 weeks on four mobile phones at home (which we pay over £150 a month for!) including my two teenage daughters phones who are beside themselves!!My Vodafone sure signal box was working fine (for past two years or more)but stopped working when we switched to SKY Fibre optic broadband from regular SKY broadband I have spoken to Vodafone and SKY for many many hours but still no signal. I'm tempted to ditch both SKY and Vodafone and start fresh with BT!!, this would be such a shame as been with both companies for over 15 years now I have no idea what I need to do to fix this, we have tried Port Forwarding but still no signal. Please help, I am in a mobile blackspot and its driving me cand the family mad.

Although not specifically about Sky Fibre, this (although a bit technical) is an interesting read (in particular the post at 21-Oct-14 10:41:23 advising to de-register the SS via the VF website, wait 30 mins then re-register the SS using a different postcode and if no luck contact VF and ask them to reset the SS from their end). For what it's worth, the Three Home Signal Box works fine over Sky Fibre without any port forwarding or any nonsense - just plug and go - worth knowing if you should decide to switch mobile providers!

  • Vodafone Sure Signal

I've had no joy connecting this plu'n'play device to the internet through my Linkysys Router.
It's an old router (BEFW11S4 V2) with minimal on-line support, so I'm considering an upgrade to get support.
    Has
    a) anyone successfully connected A Vodafone Sure SIgnal device through any Linkysys wireless router?
    or
    b) any idea how to, for a BEFW11S4, follow Vodafone advice to "Make sure there are no firewall’s inbound and outbound and 3 ports opened again inbound and outbound, UDP4500, UPD500 & TCP50"
    Richard Drake
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Cracked it myself; no need to play with Linksys settings at all.
    1) If home network uses any static IP addresses, free up the 1st available (eg 192.168.1.100) so the Sure SIgnal can use it
    2) Grant the new device completely unrestricted access to your home network in any firewall settings (sounds dodgy, but I can't see the huge risk from a wireless device that only works with registered phone ids)
& now it's working it's fantastic; no more leaning out of windows or standing in the rain to get a signal

  • Vodaphone sure signal ports :(50,500,4500,8,123)

Help? Please. I have a vodaphone sure signal box that is not working due to the following ports not being open with my Internet provider BT. The ports that need to be open are as follows,
    1.Ports50,500,4500,8,123)
Internet speed I need a Upload speed of at least  0.36 for this to work but voda phone have advised me that my upload speed is .35? I have no idea what that means.
This information was provided by vodaphone today.
I am not technical minded and have no idea what they mean so can someone please help me?

    Hi,
It might be a good idea to move this to the correct forum so that you could get this answered.
    Cheers,

  • Sure Signal Problems

Our Vodafone Sure Signal stopped working last month. Vodafone have checked what they needed to and said all is OK. They have advised I speak to our ISP(BT) and check the router settings. Tried doing this through Live Chat, told they are "not trained" for this!
Can I see what the settings are without going through BT?
    Appreciate any help
    Cheers

If you are on option 1, then your IP address may be shared, which may stop it working. Did you change anything a month ago, like enabling Parental controls?

  • Sky broadband and sure signal

Hi, My sure signal box was working fine and sudenly stopped working a couple of weeks ago. I have spoken to Vodafone who say they can not change the settings on my hub because it is a sky product. I have spoken to the sky helpdesk who say as my phone line and broadband are working fine it is an issue with the suresignal unit so they wont help. Clearly something has changed somewhere recently to cause this issue. I even purchaced a new sure signal unit to try to deal with the issue but to no avail. I have no idea what I need to do to fix this, some of the other chats talk about unlocking ports in the router but that makes me nervious. I was advised to look at www.portforwarding.com but the Sky SR02 router is not listed there and all the screenshots are windows based and I have a mac. Please help, I am in a mobile blackspot and its driving me crazy.

I have excatly the same issue no phone sugnal for 6 weeks now, neither Vodafone or SKY seem to be able to help me, did your issue ever get resolved and how?

  • Setting up Airport Extreme with Vodafone Sure Signal

I have recently upgraded my BT provided HomeHub 3 to an Apple AirPort Extreme which is now connected directly to the BT Infinity modem.
Since this upgrade, I am having problems getting my Vodafone Sure Signal, which connects to AirPort Extreme via ethernet, to work.  I have read several posts on this and other sites which summise that it is not possible to get this configuration working to incompatibility of the PPPoE and PPPoE systems.
I have read several posts about setting up a bridge / switch between the Infinity modem and the AirPort Extreme which I could then plug the Vodafone Sure Signal into.  Can anyone offer some step by step instructions on how I can do this, utilising my HomeHub 3 as the switch / bridge?

  • Time capsule produces a signal, but won't connect or backup

I have looked at some of the other discussions here; some are similar, but I can't find an answer.
I have a TC, Macbook Pro and an iPhone 4, all between 6-10 months old.   My problems started when I turned on all my stuff after being away for 4 weeks over the summer.
My Macbook pro's AirPort recognises the TC - I have a 'full signal' reading at the top of the page.  However, when I try and connect to the internet, I'm told it can't connect to the server.  If I just keep trying, re-entering addresses (from the scroll-down bar, so always exactly the same), it eventually connects and I have a great connection, which I can use to watch movies/download stuff no problem.  Why is it so **** illogical?  Why does it connect on the 20th attempt, and not on the first?  This happens however long the computer has been on, and regardless of when I last connected to the internet.
The biggest problem is that I have a Vodafone 'Sure Signal' signal booster attached to the TC.  Without it, I get no phone signal.  The Sure Signal does not recognise the signal from the TC at all.  I have done factory resets on both - individually and together, and nothing has changed.  I have turned the Sure Signal off, but the TC still doesn't work properly.
My iPhone won't connect either.  It too shows a 'full signal', but when I try and connect it says connected/not connected alternately about every 1 second.
The TC is connected to the internet via a cable from my landlord's router, next door.  They have perfect signal.  They also have a signal booster in their house, which used to interfere with my TC (when it worked).  I changed the channel on my TC, and now, when it connects, there is no interference.
Please can someone enlighten me - I have worked though every thing I can, and I can't go any further because I can't see any logic to the problem.
** Since these problems have started, the TC has not backed anything up - I can't get it to back up, whatever I've tried.
** Each time I have re-made my network, when I open Airport Utility, it says 'no wireless devices recognised', and I have to re-start the TC in order to be able to do anything to it.

    Try changing the Firewall setting:
    mDNSResponder - Allow incoming connections
    Background:
My Time Capsule was working perfectly in Leopard.
When I upgraded to Slow Leopard, Airport Utility was no longer able to see the Time Capsule - although my Mac (MBP) was still able to connect to the wireless network and out onto the Internet.
The next day or so I upgraded to Lion (Snow Leopard was only installed to get App store) - the situation remained the same.
From another Mac (MB - still running Leopard) Airport Utility was still able to connect to Time Capsule.
I edited the firewall settings on my Lion MBP:
The mDNSResponder was set to "Block incoming connections".
I changed this to "Allow incoming connections".
Airport Utility was then was then able to see the Time Capsule (I can't recall now if I needed a reboot after changing this).
    HTH.

  • Cell phone signal boosters

No idea about legality but I've tried and failed to get a Vodafone Sure Signal running in our office, it just will not connect to the Internet!

I have been tasked with finding information about signal boosters for the production floor where I work. I have read quite a bit on FCC rules and having to register the device. I was curious if anyone had any experience on the legality of using a consumer product in a business environment. I also was wondering what kind of range the consumer products have as I need to cover about 20,000 square feet. It is very open area.I have contacted two different companies and one said a consumer product would never cover that area and recommended the commercial one that would probably cost about $.40 a square foot. The second company said that they could install a consumer product that would work just fine in our location.I have searched on this topic and most of the posts are over a year old and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with...

  • Another unhappy iPhone 3GS user - SIGNAL issues

I have recently (2wks ago) received an iPhone 3GS from Vodafone UK.
Which like many other users has a problem holding a signal.
In the house I can't even hold a 2G signal and that is in a "good to excellent 3G area".
And 3G is hardly ever possible in the house.
Now this continues to be a BIG issue outside the house which is apparently an "Excellent 3G area".
It drops signal at the drop of a hat.
Many people are reporting the same issues on the Vodafone forums but we keep getting fobbed off.
And I notice other people here too mentioning signal issues.
Am well fed-up of this and feel well ripped off - the phone barely functions for the purpose it was meant for "PHONE".
I have tried all the scripted useless help Vodafone give out - does anyone have any suggestions ???

FWIW, I think it's down to a poor receiver, not an 'inherent fault' as you suggest.
If you want to take it further, then I suggest a legal route if Vodafone aren't sympathetic.
You won't get any more useful advice here, because there is no more to give!
Actually, there is some more advice. Recently, Vodafone have started to push their 'Sure Signal' box. Guaranteed signal in your home via wi-fi for £50. It's a no-brainer for you I would suggest.

  • BT Infinity - Port Forwarding and Vodafone Sure Si...

I have been lucky enough to upgrade from BT Total Broadband (Home Hub 1 and then 2) to BT Infinity (Home Hub 2 with Openreach box). I can remember having major problems with port forwarding with my previous installation, even though the step by step instructions given by BT regarding application sharing was accurate. I resorted to using TELNET and then certain key commands that ensured it did work. A forum simular to this one saved the day. Now I have the new BT Infinity box of tricks and I appear to have the same problem and now I cannot use TELNET to tear down these restrictions. I have switched off the Firewall within the menu system but realise that this is still operational in some kind of way. All incoming data is still being blocked. I need to make sure the following ports are open to the World so that my Vodafone Sure Signal works: TCP: 8 TCP: 50 TCP: 123 UDP: 500 UDP: 4500 I have also enable the VPN clamping as suggested. Can anyone help me? Vodafone can only advise me on these port numbers the rest is ISP driven. Do I need to speak to an engineer? Do I need to TELNET the Home Hub some how? Thank you in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a nationwide problem with Sure Signal connecting through BTinternet which has been ongoing since the 27th. It doesn't seem to be a problem through other internet providers nor does it seem to be specific to any particular versions of Sure Signal or BT Home Hub.
There's no point trying to talk to BT customer services about it - the idiot I was speaking to yesterday insisted that I needed to change the Wi-Fi channel on my Home Hub in order to get my (wired) Sure Signal working again.
Vodafone's customer services are not quite as sh*t as BT's but not much more help. They do, at least, acknowledge that there is a problem and that it is being worked on by engineers (not sure if it is Voda or BT engineers?) but can only say that the "hope it is fixed in the next 24 hours."
If you are thinking of speaking to BT's "customer support specialists" about this, I suggest you poke yourself in the eye instead; it's as likely to fix the problem, will take less time and probably be less painful.
