Surfing net on iPad2 using airplay?

Can I do this?
I don't have WiFi at home and have an internet connection (wired) to my MacBook Pro.
Can I connect an iPad2 by airplay with my MacBook Pro and surf the net on my iPad using the airplay connection?
I can't see why it wouldn't work..???

thanks eric for taking the time to help. much appreciated.
your first sentence read: "try setting your macbook up as and internet sharing"
was there supposed to be a word inserted before "and"?
thanks

  • Any way to surf net on MBA using HDTV as monitor w/out cable?

My MBA is connected via a 2-wire modem/router, and I access the Internet wirelessly.  Just bought an LG 32" HDTV (1080p, 60hz).  I want to surf the net on my MBA and use the TV as a monitor.  It works flawlessly when using a minidisplay to HDMI cable.  But...I want to do the same thing, but without the cable.  Don't like cable strung out across the floor.  Apple Box or Roku won't allow surfing...you have to use their apps or subscribe to apps.  Can this "wireless" dream of mine be done?  Apple says "No"...but what do you guys say?   My poor head is spinning!  I bought the Air to do just this, and now find out it apparently won't work!!!

Hopefully they add it in the future to the Apple TV, but ya it isn't possible now.
If this is a must have feature and you can return the Air still, the Lenovo U300s Ultrabook has Intel's WiDi wireless mirroring capablility and is a nice machine.

  • How do I get my iPad2 to connect to TV using AirPlay?

How do I get my iPad2 to connect to TV using AirPlay?

Thanks for your helpful response. I do have an Apple TV device that is hooked up to my TV & router and is working OK. I can link to iTunes on my main computer and stream photos etc OK. The Apple TV device also links to internet OK.
What I can't get to Apple TV device to do is link to my IPad2. I followed the instructions on using & setting up  Airplay, and found the Airplay symbol OK,. When I tap it it shows my iPad & Apple TV. When I tap on the TV symbol it doesn't show the dialogue box indicated. I can't seem to get the iPad to stream from Photos, and the iPad doesn't show up on the TV under Computers.
Clearly I am doing something wrong, but what?
    Any ideas?

  • Using ipad2 and airplay with appleTV; can I have the ipad2 on wifi and the AppleTV on a wired port of the same router in order to use airplay?

can I have the ipad2 on wifi and the AppleTV on a wired port of the same router in order to use airplay?

I belive you can, I think my friends Apple TV is connected to their internet via an Ethernet cable, and we use Airplay sometimes using our iPads that are connected to the same network via WiFi. It should work as long as they are both connected to the same network. However, I don't have an Apple TV of my own, so don't take this as a solid answer.

  • Can I stream the sound from a video running on my apple tv to my wireless speakers using airplay?

I have living room speakers connected to an airport express and available via airplay from my computer, ipad2 and iphone which is great for playing music. My question is, can I use those speakers to play sound from videos running on my apple tv? For instance if I use airplay to run a video on apple tv from my computer or iOS device, can I have the audio play on my speakers connected to an airport express? It would be amazing to be able to use the speakers simultaneously with the apple tv as they are both on the same home sharing network. Possible?

No. But, are your speakers only connected to the AE or are they also connected to an amplifier?
You would need to use a Toslink cable to go from the Apple TV to the speakers/amp.
I don't use this or know a lot about it, but it is wildly popular, inexpensive and may be of help:

  • HT4325 I can use airplay on iMac but not iPad or iPhones

My iMac streams music to my Apple TV units and I have the airplay icon appear. I can happily stream music to different speakers from my iMac.
I am using Pandora to play music on my iMac and would like to stream it to different speakers. I thought I could do this using either my iPhones (4S & 5) and iPad2 but no such luck. It would appear that I cannot stream to the AppleTVs as they are first generation but they happily work with the iMac?!?
Am I missing something or is there a way I can achieve streaming from these devices using Airplay?
Background: The wifi is fine, all devices are using the same system and are connected using a router. It works well for the iMac using itunes but alas Pandora is not available on itunes.
    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
No you aren't doing anything wrong, the first generation Apple TV can't receive streams from an iOS device.

  • Apple tv doesn't let us use AirPlay after update.

After the update, apple tv does not let us use AirPlay from other devices such as iPad, iPhone etc.

I'm having the same problem, just upgraded ATV2 to 5.0 and now I can't use Airplay from my iPad2. When I try I just get the spining clock timer.
However the strange thing is that mirroring does still work.

  • HT204291 How can i use airplay in Public network?

For some reason I can't connect to airplay using public network ( secured & password proteced ) for e.g. Hotel network.
Can you please suggest me settings so that I can use airplay function. thanks

if the network require one to login using a browser then the appletv can't
unless one adhoc connects to a laptop set to share it's internet
but that would mean that the ios device would likely not be on the same network as the appletv
if the network does not depend on a login using a browser and it still does not work then likely they blocked all ports apart from port 80 (www surf port) so airplays ports are not working

  • I just updated iTunes so I can use airplay and now it won't open

I am trying to use airplay with my apple tv.  I updated both this morning and now itunes crashes as soon as it opens.  Is anyone else experiencing this?

You could unplug your router than plug it back in.  You could turn the iPhone completely off and then back on.

  • Can I use internet sharing to give internet to my Apple TV through my Macbook and use Airplay on the same computer at the same time?

So I am using internet sharing from my Macbook to my Apple TV. The router providing internet to my Macbook has an ip address that looks like 192.168.0.x. Since the internet sharing feature assigns an ip address that looks like 192.168.2.x to my Apple TV, the Macbook is unable to see the Apple TV ("different" networks). Is there a way around this so I can share internet and still be able to use Airplay between the two?
BTW I am using a Macbook Pro Retina 15'' (late 2013) on Mavericks 10.9.1 and Apple TV 3.
    Thanks.

Why are you tyring to spilt your connection though the MBP?  Why don't you just connect them both to the router as they are meant to be setup?
