Svr don't start under Solaris 8

Hy,
I've just installed Tarantella SGD v4 (4.00.903, download from web site) on
a Solaris 8 server but it doesn't install very well...
The system is:
Sun Sparc, Solaris 8 (10/00 I think), (SS4)
with the last cluster patch (today) and patches n108995-02, 109025-05,
111295-01, 111297-01, as indicated in the tarantella installation guide (one
patch needs this others.)
As the pkgadd is changed, I did the /tmp/tta_pkgadd script (without this
install didn't start) as documentation,
But I have 4 errors messages during the installation:
Running extended_templates Setup script...
Setting up server beans (templates)...
...finished setting up server beans (templates).

Arnaud,
Can you run any of the programs in /opt/tarantella/bin/bin? For example
you should be able to run ttahostname, which should output the DNS name of
your server.
And what do you get if you do this:
cd /opt/tarantella/bin/bin
sum -r *
I would expect something like this:

  • Apps don't start under Mac OS X 10.4.10 / Java 1.5.0_07, zeroRect Exception

    I'm using Mac OS X for a while and always install the latest updates from Apple, so this might have something to do with it.
    Today I tried starting two of my applications that I've written two or three month ago, but both quit a second or so after launching with:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: zeroRect
    (Full console below)
    When I try to start Apple's (?) Programme/Dienstprogramme/Java/J2SE 5.0/Java Preferences, it doesn't start fully as well with the following error message shown in a dialog:
    Die Java-Anwendung kann nicht gestartet werden
    Nicht abgefangene Ausnahme in main-Methode :
    java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: zeroRect
    All those apps have ran some time in the past without problems.
    When I start another of my applications that doesn't use a menu, this runs without causing any problems.
    Compiling works fine for all mentioned applications (no errors or warnings).
    How can I get my programs running again?

    This looks sort of like what happened to me just now. I tried svcs -x

    I tried all kinds of things to get gss to run, but I finally realized that
    it was really ifconfig that was the problem. The system has two
    network interfaces, and during installation I gave both of them
    a name. However, hme1 was not really connected to anything.
    All I did to get it to work was
    # cd /etc
    # mv hostname.hme1 no.hme1
    After that, I rebooted, and everything came up OK. I don't know
    if the original problem was the same, but this solved my problem.

  • Problems starting SunMC Agent 3.6 under Solaris 10

    Hi folks,
    I just did a test installation of the new SunMC 3.6 Server which worked fine. Afterwards, I did a fresh install of the 3.6 agent on a Sun Enterprise 420R running Solaris 10. I installed the agent in the global zone.
    At the end of the setup, when the system asks me if I want to start the agent, which I affirmed. But this didn't work, system says just laconically "Could not start agent". Unfortunately, I can't even find the logs, since there is no log subdirectory under /var/opt/SUNWsymon. Have they moved this under Solaris 10?
    Any ideas somebody how to dig into this?

    Hi Mike,
    This sounds a lot like a post just a few days ago:
    http://forum.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=27785&tstart=0Well, yes and no...I read this thread and I found some similarities but it's not the same problem. Besides, this was Solaris 8, I've 10 and my guess is that it has something to do with Sol10.
    What do you see when you start the Agent with this command:
    /opt/SUNWsymon/sbin/es-start -aiNo error...I end up in a prompt:

  • [SOLVED] Keyboard-shortcuts "alt+." and "alt+d" don't work under X11

    Hi,
    I switched from gentoo to archlinux and everything is running fine except my following really annoying problem:
    The keycombinations "alt+." (insert the last parameter from the line before) and "alt+d" (delete the word under the cursor) don't work under X11 (in my xterm).
    They work before I start X with bash and zsh btw...
    My "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-keyboard.conf" looks like
    Section "InputClass"
            Identifier "keyboard"
            MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
            Option "XkbLayout" "de"
            Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
            Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
            Option "XkbOptions" "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
    EndSection
    It is really annoying without these keys working and I have no clue where to look. Can anyone give me a hint?
    Thanks

  • Mozilla under Solaris 10

    hello all,
    I am trying to launch Mozilla 1.7 under Solaris 10 with multiple Java versions, like Java 1.5, 1.4 and 1.6.
    I am not 100% sure but from what I see its not fully supported by Mozilla?
    some behavior patters that I noticed is that Mozilla tend to lock the session against the JRE its running under. so if you started with 1.5
    it will remain under 1.5 until you kill/finish that session..
    could anyone please help with this or if you have any better suggestion?
    thanks a lot

    ... and ... before running es-inst you have to add the PostgreSQL packages from the Solaris Media (5.10 U5 in my case)
    Step order again:
    - kill all postmaster processes (PostgreSQL Procs)
    - if applicable svcadm disable all sunmc services
    - /opt/SUNWsymon/sbin/es-uninst -X
    - remove all SUNWpostgr* and SUNWpg* packages
    - install these Packages - to be downloaded from http://www.sunfreeware.com/indexsparc10.html:
    libgcc-3.4.6-sol10-sparc-local.gz , zlib-1.2.3-sol10-sparc-local.gz , readline-5.2-sol10-sparc-local.gz
    or - the x64 respectively
    - edit /etc/project to have this line for "default" : default:3::::project.max-shm-memory=(priv,2684354456,deny)
    the value have to be calculated by one third of your physical memory.
    - add the original postgreSQL packages from the Solaris install media :
    SUNWpostgr-libs
    SUNWpostgr
    SUNWpostgr-contrib
    SUNWpostgr-devel
    SUNWpostgr-server-data
    SUNWpostgr-server
    SUNWpostgr-jdbc
    SUNWpostgr-pl
    SUNWpostgr-tcl
    SUNWpostgr-docs
    - run es-inst again from your install image path

  • Sparc Storag Array 102 needs to run under solaris 10

    I need to get a Sparc Storage Array to run under solaris 10. The soc driver that is needed is not supportted under solairs 10. I took the packages needed off of solari 9 cd and installed them but no luck. I tried to to do a modload and modinfo but it was not there.
    The package loaded a file into /kernel/drv/sparcv9/soc. I have solaris 9 onanother disk on the same system and looked at the system trying to copy and edit the files on 10 but not device paths show up in the system. I copyied a file called soc that was in /kernel/drv/ I edited the /etc/device_aliases and path_to_inst but no good.
    There are no entries in the /devices/ dir that reference the soc path. I do not if than can work but really would like to get this working.

    The fibre interface on that beast is NOT a Gigabit connection,
    such as is common on current systems.
    It was a 100Mbps connection through an array controller,
    running with a 40MHz microSPARC II control module.
    You'd exceed its throughput capabilities in any attempt
    to read or write data at or beyond that 100Mbps rate.
    I don't anticipate much assistance in these forums for a technology that goes back a decade-and-a-half.
    Contributors familiar with products from that era stopped posting in 2006
    when the previous supportforum.sun.com was merged into this one.
    We'll all look forward to your guidance after you succeed.

  • Backup issues (ufsdump/ufsrestore) under solaris 10

    Hello all,
    We are in the process of migrating to Solaris 10 from Solaris 8.
    On our Solaris 8 systems with 2 HDDs we have a script that does a full backup of one disk (slice by slice) on to another using ufsdump/ufsrestore + boot record. The idea is that if one disk becomes corrupt logically/physically we can boot off the backup disk and continue using the system.
    This worked fine under Solaris 8. We tried to do the same under Solaris 10 and noticed some unexpected behaviour when we tried to boot off the backup disk. Solaris 10 started "reconfiguring services" just like it does it when you install the OS fresh with the message:
    Loading smf(5) service descriptions: xx/117
    Somehow Solaris 10 "knew" that it was booted from a different device than last time.
    My question would be: how does Solaris 10 know this and could we "fool" it into thinking that it was always installed on a backup disk, so it doesn't reconfigure itself every time new backup is made (and used).

    "... The real question is "how can I be sure that except smf there is nothing else in the OS affected by HDD change" and that is what I meant..."
    The fact that you use ufsdump on mounted (I am guessing that you are doing so :-) file systems is risky!. Alternatively, you can create snapshots (fssnap(1M)) for the file systems that you are going to ufsdump on.
    If your main aim is to replicate and reduce down time in case of root disk failure, a better solution is make use of mirriong via Solaris Volume Manager (aka SDS or md(7D)). Mirror does not guard against human errors though, such as accidentally deletion of crucial files :-) (which a backup strategy can guard against).
    Hope this helps.

    S.T.Chang

    Don't cross-post.
    You already have an active thread on this topic in the other forum.
    Cross-posting fragments any responses all over the universe.
    As time passes and the threads get separated by time,
    the responses become irrelevant.
    That's why it's poor forum etiquette.
    You end up diluting the information.

  • Sun GigaSwift Ethernet under Solaris 10

    Is it possible to use the Sun GigaSwift Ethernet NIC (aka X4150A-2) under a solaris 10 OS? I'am working with a SunFire V250 server and tried to install this but diddn't succeed. There seem to be just drivers vor 7,8 and 9 but not for 10. Very frustrating. I think I need a so called "ce" driver for solaris 10. the card has been detected by the kernel. so if I try the "show-nets" command at the ok prompt i get both, the internal gigabit an the X4150A-2 (i guess).
    Hope someone can help me. I don't like installing solaris 9 again, the tcp/ip performance is so much better under 10 and I'm working on a network benchmark.

    The SUNWce* packages are natively in Solaris 10.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-0181/eezdz?a=view
    If the hardware is present during installation, they get installed ( core cluster or greater ).
    If the hardware is installed later, you should be able to find them on your installation media.
    Just pkgadd them, then do a reconfiguration reboot and plumb the interfaces as desired.

  • Swedish chars not working under Solaris

    Hi All,
    I created the following little code and it is not working under Solaris 7, JDK1.4.1_01. (also tested some other but does not work)
    public class HelloSweden
    public static void main(String [] args)
    String newName="";
    String charsetName = "iso-8859-2";
    byte [] s = {(byte)229, (byte)228, (byte)246};
    try
    newName = new String(s, 0, s.length, charsetName);
    catch ( java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException e )
    System.err.println(e.getMessage());
    e.printStackTrace();
    System.out.println("new name is: "+newName);
    for(int i=0; i<newName.getBytes().length; i++)
    System.out.println(i+"."+":"+newName.getBytes());
    The problem is that on Solaris 7 the output is:
    new name is: ???
    0.:63
    1.:63
    2.:63
    Whereas on Linux it works fine:
    new name is:
    0.:-27
    1.:-28
    2.:-10
    I also tried the "javac -encoding iso8859-1" option but no use.
    Could anybody help?
    Thnx,
    GF

    I also tried the "javac -encoding iso8859-1" option
    but no use.
    Was the output exactly the same or were the numbers correct, at least?
    You may need to compile with:
    javac -encoding ISO-8859-1 ClassName.java
    and then run with:
    java -Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1 ClassName
    You can set the character encoding explicitely like that. The character encoding depends on locale settings; if you set LC_ALL to a Swedish locale ("sv_SE"?) javac and java should start using the correct encodings automatically.

  • OS 9 won't start under Tiger

    Hi,
    My Classic environment will no longer start under Tiger, although I can boot from it independently. I suspect my recent maintenance activities may be to blame. I have three internal drives, all with Tiger and one also with OS 9.2. Recently the boot disc showed signs of failing: I caught it in time, imaged the disc and replaced it. After a bit of fiddling with the remade disc I could start from it. Unfortunately I can't recall whether OS9 has ever worked since, but I think it has. I don't use it often.
    I have tried booting under Tiger with extensions off and also moving and replacing the Finder so that it is 'blessed', both without success. I thought about reinstalling but I get a message saying I can't install over a newer OS.
    All help gratefully received!
