Swapped HDD of Pavilion G6 2264sa with HDD of a Pavilion G6 1331sa / Brightness not wking..!!

Hi there,
Hope everyone is well and wonder if anyone can help me. My problem is my daughter’s laptop, she is in the middle of studying at Uni and all her work is on her laptop which is a:
HP Pavilion G61331sa/1.6 GHZ AMD Quad-Core A8-3520M APU with Radeon 6620G + 7450M Dual Graphics/ 6GB Memory/ Video Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6620G + 7450M Dual GPU (1 GB DDR3 dedicated)/ HDD 750 GB SATA (5400 rpm)/ Running Windows 7.
My son unfortunately accidentally spilt juice onto the laptop. I quickly took all the preventive measures, switching off power/ removing battery/ Hard Drive and turning laptop upside down. I also left it in the airing cupboard for a couple days to dry out then tried it again. It powers up and the power light stays on and the fan works but the caps lock button light keeps flashing and the screen remains blank even when I try to use an external monitor via the HDMI connections again the external monitor is blank. It would seem that most of the spillage was on the left side of the keyboard as the keys are very sticky that side. I spoke to HP about my problem as the laptop is still under warranty however as we all know it does not cover accidents and No, we did not get accident cover. As my daughter is in the middle of exams a solution was needed pronto. It was suggested by HP techy guy to purchase the modern equivalent with the same HDD and just change over the HDD and update all the drivers.
I bought a HP Pavilion G6 2264sa/ Intel® Core™ i3-2370M/4GB Memory/750GB SATA Hard Disk Drive/ Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 (up to 1.65 GB) running windows 8 (64 bit).
I changed over the HDD as suggested and updated all the drivers. There was a slight problem booting up but just had to go into BIOS at start up (F1 key) Boot Configuration/ Settings and let it know to Boot from HDD as opposed to CD ROM etc. The HP Pavilion G6 2264sa booted up with the G6 1331sa HDD and works fine. My daughter does not have to worry about spending time finding her away around a new laptop and windows 8; everything is just where she knows it is.
The only problem I am having is the Brightness controls (f2 and f3) do not seem to work and the screen remains very bright to the degree of causing a headache. I have uninstalled and installed the Graphics Driver but still no control over Brightness...!!!!!!
Any Ideas where i may have gone wrong??
Your suggestions and ideas will be very much welcomed and appreciated.
Many thanks in advance...

  • 2nd HDD bay with HDD = notebook won't boot with HDD in 2nd HDD bay

I recently came into a Pavilion DV9308 Notebook. It was in decent shape, well looked new and since I like tinkering with laptops and the motherboard had the dreaded NVIDIA GPU failure going on, I sent the motherboard out to my motherboard dude and he put a newer NVIDIA video chip in, made some adjustments and modifications to the heatsink cooler etc. Along with my modifications including vent holes and sealing up the fan blowing assembly so when the fan turned on the hot air would leave the laptop it now runs Windows 7 64 bit with a 64GB Kingston OS SSHD and 4GB DDR2 800mhz ram. It runs like lightning and impresses people when they see it boot up in 15 seconds.
The problem is and the whole reason I picked this notebook to restore is because it has two acutal hard drive bays. Well ever since I've gotten the notebook It will not boot with a hard drive in both bays or a hard drive in Bay #2. I had to send the repaired motherboard back once because one of the ram slots wasn't working so this is happening on two different motherboards. I cannot find a reason why this is happening and have yet to find anyone that can help me with this. Can anyone explain to me what I'm doing wrong? I have all the correct drivers I think and the laptop runs at 130"F when pushed to the max! That is amazing compared to what it originally ran. It would be awesome if someone could please help me with this. Thanks.

Hello jason9922.  I understand your notebook won't boot with a hard drive in the second bay.
When you say that the notebook won't boot with a drive in the second bay what exactly do you mean?  Does the CAPS LOCK key flash or do you get an error?
When you have the hard drive installed can you access the BIOS?  If so, is the hard drive detected within the BIOS?
I'll keep an eye out for your response.  Have a great day!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"

  • Win 7 randomly freezes with HDD light on

I'm struggling with this for some time now. My win 7 x64 just freezes from time to time with HDD light on constantly. I've read almost all threads, tried almost every advise, but just could't solve the issue.
    I have win 7 Enterprise x64 + SP1 installed on PC:
    Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q8400 @2.66GHz
    Gigabyte P43-ES3G
    8GB RAM (4x2GB Kingston DDR2),
    2x1TB HDD (WD)
    NVIDIA FeForce 9500GT
Next, I'll list what I've already tried (without success) to not waste anybody's time - tried to change hardware, scan HDD for errors, set memory timings, reinstall win, scan for viruses, update all drivers, update BIOS.
(Maybe) important is that the same thing happens in safe mode. However, I've got no problems with other OSs like Linux or Win XP x64.

comibat & ddrouin: Usually when I run into situations like this, the presumption is that its a relatively new issue, meaning, you haven't have this problem from day 1 of computer
ownership.  Right?  So, the first thing is to examine what changed recently?  We should be considering things like, but not limited to, the following:
    Application installation or removal
    System configuration change
    Driver installation or removal
    Hardware installation or removal
    Windows updates
    Etc.
    comibat:
When you boot into Safe Mode (with & without networking; that could be key) & let it sit, for a while, does it seem to hang?
When you performed a clean boot & left it for a while, it also hung, correct?
Does it seem to matter whether or not your machine is connected to a network (wired or otherwise)?
If this something repeatable, like within an hour for instance, you may want to load up Resource Monitor & leave it in the foreground until it happens.  When it comes back to normal there should be some results for review.  (It may not update
while its in its hung state, but, when it 'comes back to life' it should show you throughput, usage etc and the process(es) associated with it.  Unfortunately, this may mean leaving the computer on for a while & not touching it.  (Unless
of course its unique to a sequence of events.)
You should consider loading up Performance Monitor as well and creating a counter.  Unfortunately, this is probably something you'll just have to let run until it happens, then make note of the date & time for review once it 'comes back to life'.
I would do some research on Performance Monitor & how to setup counters.  You could try this counter...
    Logman.exe create counter Perf-Counter-Log-1sec -o "c:\perflogs\PerfTest1sec.blg" -f bincirc -v mmddhhmm -max 500 -c "\LogicalDisk(*)\*" "\Memory\*" "\Network Interface(*)\*" "\Paging File(*)\*" "\PhysicalDisk(*)\*" "\Processor(*)\*" "\Process(*)\*" "\Server\*" "\System\*" -si 00:00:01
ddrouin: If you haven't already done so, you may want to consider starting your own thread.  (I haven't checked, just a suggestion incase you have not)  That said: In addition to the
above, is there any commonality between the three systems (the Lenovo, Asus & your friend's computer)?

  • Should i use "HDD protection utility" in connection with SSD drive?

I've replaced HDD with SSD and reinstalled my Windows. Accidentally I've installed "HDD protection utility"? Is it absolutely useless in system with SSD? Should I uninstall this utility?
    Thank you.

Since one month I use SSD with my Satellite Notebook. I have installed original recovery image that includes HDD protection utility. I can start it but it is inactive.
Strange thing is that with HDD it was inactive too. To be honest I dont care about that. It is preinstalled but I have disabled it from automatic start-up.
In my opinion you can remove it from the system.

  • Installing new HDD into an iMac G5 with SATA

Installing new HDD into an iMac G5 with SATA and would like to know how to migrate the old system over to the new drive. Can I use a USB2 external drive, move all the old data, then select the new system as the boot system?

    lwolfcc-
    Yes.
But you might do better with a program like SuperDuper, as it will be sure to copy any hidden files as well.

  • Can you buy any type of external HDD and it'll work with any mac or do you have to buy specific ones that cost like €999?

can you buy any type of external HDD and it'll work with any mac or do you have to buy specific ones that cost like €999?

You can buy any disk with FireWire, Thunderbolt or USB. If you've got a 2010 or early MacBook Pro, buy a FireWire disk, or if you've a newer computer, a Thunderbolt disk. They'll be faster than the USB, but you can buy an USB hard disk

  • Can you replace the ssd drive in retina macbook pro with hdd inside of a bay of some kind?

Hey guys, want to replace my 256 flash based drive in my 2014 macbook pro retina with a 1th 7200rpm hdd. Is this possible with a bay adapter of some kind?

No. The SSD is not upgradeable. There is not bay. The SSD is just a small board attached to the motherboard.

  • Replaced failed HDD Sat. L455-5000 with new Western Digital 320 SATA drive-problems with recovery

Original HDD died.  Replaced it with new WD 320 SATA from Best Buy-nice drive-good reviews.  Used Recovery Center DVD's I had burned earlier.  Three with Toshiba Recovery  2 with Windows Recovery Envrinoment and DRivers/Apps.
Toshiba REcovery only asked for first 3.  Computer restart after Recovery Install(First Three Disks) gives error message:
    File: \windows\system32\DRIVERS\LPCFilter.sys

WIndows Cannot Verify Digital Driver Signature.
Windows Boot Manager "screen" always comes up and Windows fails to start.

    3. CLick " repair your computer."
I thought the Toshiba Recovery Disks were supposed to install everything for me.  I don't have a sparate windows system disk.  Never burned one
    Any help woud be great.
    Thanks,
    Charles

    Time for some good news.
I received and installed an OEM WD 250 (Toshiba) replacement drive.  After loading the recovery disks this morning-it worked perfectly-just like "out of the box."
It was the HDD failure after all.  No software gliches at all.  Windows update of course is attempting to re-load about 500 updates. LOL.  I also learned to spread them out in groups of 10-20 long ago as well.  This will take some time; but the laptop is running fine.
So I learned some great lessons.  1)-stick with OEM replacement hardware-computers are "locked in time" to a definite hardware configuration that works well at that time in history.  2) If I had not used my own "decision" tree to problem solve-I'd still have a dead computer.  3) I was correct to order an external drive enclosure to test the bad drive after I was unable to do so with the laptop.  4)I made the right choices to contact the Western Digital Drive support to find out the new drive really might also be the problem.  5) It was also great to be able to get such amazing help on this forum too-what a great resource for Toshiba owners. 6)Finally-I was able to "chat" with the Toshiba Rep. online to confirm the OEM part number of the WD drive they had used-and ordered -cheaper- from Amazon.com.
    7) After 2 weeks of my own time(and great online resources) and $80.00-I fixed my laptop myself.  Never had to mail it anywhere.
    8) I also ended up with a great external backup drive-that I was always too lazy-and cheap-to order for myself  before.  LOL.
    9) Now what about the Toshiba OEM Graphics card that the "Windows Experience Survey' always says I need to replace?  Nope -not going there -yet.
    Thanks for all the help-
    Sincerely,
    Charles

Hi, I am planning to buy an MBA with 256 GB flash storage. I was wondering if external hdd's will be compatible with it?

Yes, any HDD will work, but as stated above, you should probably go for a more portable unit.  My personal preference is for units that are powered by the USB or Thunderbolt connection, so I don't have to worry about a power cord.
    I'm using a G-Tech 500GB Slim Drive for $90.  They also make a 1 TB model for $150.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H9996VC/A/g-tech-1tb-g-drive-usb-30-mobile-har d-drive?fnode=5f
It's about the size of a paperback book, and the thickness of an iPhone.  Great for travel if you want to back up photos!  Team it up with a 12 inch USB cord and you'll be set.

  • Installed SSD & replaced Superdrive with HDD. Magic Mouse now sluggish

It may be a coincedance but since I have installed a SSD (to replace to HDD) drive and replaced the Superdrive (DVD Drive) with the existing HDD (using a HD caddy), my Magic Mouse has been sluggish.
At first it seems that my Mac was overall slow but it seems that it was just getting a bit too hot - when I opened Mac and at same time gave things a clean, I made the fan less efficient and more noisy - its OK now. Still seem to be getting hotter than I remember but it is now summer and my apartment is pretty warm.
The heat is on the left hand side of the keyboard (what would be causing that??) and not on the side where the SDD or HDD is.
Anyway, going back to the mouse. It sluggish and lags a bit. I have tried brand new batteries and same problem.
    Any ideas??

I am hving the same issue.
magic mouse with hdd in original place + new SSD in optic drive bay.
OSX is on ssd bay. user on HDD.
Mouse seems to be sluggish when SSD is writing. Dropbox sync + time machine read/write etc.
Any insight on why this is would be great.

  • Connecting DVDR with HDD to Mac? Possible?

I have a Topfield 5000 Digital Settop Box which is connected to my Mac with a USB cable. Using "MPEG Streamclip" I can upload and download files to the Topfield allowing me to show video projects on the TV, and make DVDs of certain programmes etc.
A friend has a Panasonic DVD RECORDER with built in HDD; (Model DMR EH60); which has a USB connection. I've read the online manual for the device and it talks about it being connectable to "other USB devices", but it's all a bit general. MPEG Streamclip talks about being connectable to "any MPEG2 device", but again is a bit general.
My friend lives on the other side of the city and it's a bit of a trip.
So before I drive across to experiment; I'm curious to know if anyone has tried to connect a DVD Recorder with HDD to a Mac (or PC) and have you gotten the two to "talk"; allowing files to be up and down loaded.
I'm thinking it's probably not possible, that the software on the DVDR with HDD isn't designed to do it, but if you've tried it I'd like to hear back. Even if the answer is no.
    Thanks all.

    Appears it cannot be done.

I bought a iMac with a bad hdd but I have a external hdd.  I wanted to reinstall the OS on the external but it would not let me because I am not the registered user.  What can I do as I do not have the original user info?

You can go to the Mac App Store from another Mac and purchase Mountain Lion while logged in with your Apple ID. It's $19.99 US. After that you can just sign in at the re-install screen with your AppleID and password and it will verify that you did purchase it.
