Swipe features in Lion on older macbook?

I just upgraded to Lion with my 13" macbook pro with the glass trackpad.  But I want to upgrade my macbook without the multi touch trackpad.   My concern is all the gestures that you use with Lion on the trackpad.   Currently with 10.6 I use expose by swiping the mouse into the upper right corner to show all open apps.    Im curious how things like mission control and stuff work if you don't have a multi touch trackpad?    Do they somehow magically work?
Is Lion worth it on the macbooks without the multi touch?  Its the 2.4 ghz version with 2 gb of ram if that helps any.
Any help/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

That function is now called Mission Control.  You can still use Hot Corners to throw you cursor to a corner and enter it.  Also you can place an icon on the dock to enter.

  • Worth installing Lion on older MacBook?

Asking this question before installing Lion on my mom's MacBook. Since her trackpad is pre multiple touch, will any of those features even work? Will installing Lion just slow down or complicate her " works fine now" MacBook?

I have to agree, unless mum is needing, or wanting to upgrade leave the Macbook where it is, maybe mum would appreciate a nice lunch on you

  • My much older Macbook has 10.6.8.  Can I upgrade to Lion 10.7?

    Hi Community,
I have a much older MacBook with OS 10.6.8.  I need at least Lion 10.7 to run TurboTax2014.  Can I upgrade successfully?  I would rather not buy a new laptop if I don't need to.  Specs;  Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 2.1 GHZ processor.)

Install as much RAM as your model supports if you plan to run any version of OS X beyond Snow Leopard.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

  • I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. Is it Lion?

I have set up a Netgear dual band modem which works well with the iPhone and an older MacBook, but with this brand new MacBook it asks for a password every time I reopen the computer and open safari. As you can imagine this is very annoying. It says I am not connected to the internet and offers me a choice of nearby networks including mine and then asks for a password when I select it. Why does it do this with our new MacBooks (also with my son's brand new one) and not with the iPhone, iPad and older MacBook? They happily automatically connect to our network after entering the password just the once.

Sig, I appreciate you trying to be helpful. I have no idea what issues you were having or what issue exactly pgrounds has been having. Your assumption that everyone's set up is the same as yours is false however. There are many many documented WiFi issues that are a result of Lion installs. Many have been solved by 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. Others have been solved by a large variety of work arounds. Others have not had their issues solved yet.
I am one of those. I have an IT background, and I spent the better of five hours digging up workarounds and attempting all of them. For the benefit oh anyone who is having similar issues, I have posted links to all of those workarounds here. None of them worked in my case, but hopefully they will help pgrounds or others.
So, once again, if you have a new idea, I'd love to here it. But if it has already been posted in one of these links, it's not helpful, let it go.

  • 10.74 installed on an older macbook pre mountain lion requirement is it ok to update to 10.75

just checking to see if 10.74 of lion on an older macbook pre date for mountain lion should be upgrade to 10.75 if this is or is not the designator for mountain lion

Not sure if I understand your question; IF your Macbook meets the system requirments, then you don't need any version of Lion in order to get Mountain Lion. Here are the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Your Macbook must be late 2008 Alu or early 2009 or newer - has nothing to do with Lion. However, Lion may be all you can install if your machine does not meet the specs for ML.

Your MacBook can not be upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion. Snow Leopard is the highest possible for that model.

  • Will my mail sync with an older macbook which cannot run Lion if I switch to iCloud ?

I have a older Macbook that does not have sufficient memory to run Lion but I use it occasionally when I am on the road. If I switch to iCloud with my iMac desktop, will I stll be able to sync my mail with my older macbook or is that dead for all practical purposes ?

Yes your non lion mac will still be able to use your mail account even if it's been upgraded to iCloud on a lion mac. You can still use iWeb and still use it with iDisk even though you have upgraded to iCloud, iDisk will still be there until June 2012.

  • I bought a mac mini with Lion pre-installed.  If I upgrade my mac mini to Mountain Lion, am I free to install Lion on my older macbook using the mini license?

I currently have two macs.  A 2008 macbook which is running Snow Leopard, can run Lion, and cannot run Mountain Lion.  I also have a mac mini which came with Lion pre-installed.  I plan on upgrading my mini to Mountain Lion when it's available.  After I upgrade, it seems like I should be able to install Lion on my macbook using the license that came with my mini.
I have found many articles about making a DVD or bootable USB drive to recover, or install Lion onto other macs.  So, I am not tied to the mac app store.  And I am not worried about how to install Lion onto the macbook.
I have also read a few discussions about upgrading using pre-installed Lion license.  From what I've read, if someone buys Lion through the app store, they can install it on all of their macs.  But, if they have a machine the came with Lion pre-installed they can only use Lion on one machine.  However it is unclear if that license can be transferred to another machine.
Another common answer that I have seen is, "Don't be cheap!  Just buy Lion throught the app store."  This is not about money, I'm interested in the technical challange, and the leagal question.
Does anyone have experience with this, or opinions?

If your machine came with Lion preinstalled, you cannot use it on another machine. It is tied to the machine it came with. You are allowed to make a one time transfer of the OS when you sell the machine as long as it remains with that machine.
If you purchase Lion from the app store, you are free to install it on as many Macs as you own - however, if/when you sell one of those Macs, you are required to uninstall Lion as the license is not transferable and you need to reinstall the original OS.
You can read the SLA for yourself - the link to the downloads to all licenses is here:

  • How do I disable airplay on an older macbook pro?

I have an older macbook pro (model is mid-2010) with Mountain Lion installed.
When my Apple TV is on, my computer keeps trying to connect to it via Airplay.  But Airplay is not supported on my macbook pro and the sound stops working.
How do I disable my Mac from connecting to Airplay?

Do this test with the Apple TV on:
If you go into System Preferences > Sound > Output, which line is selected?
If the Apple TV is selected, can you select Internal Speakers? Will it stay on?
With Internal Speakers selected, do you get any sound output?

I bought a Belkin Mini DisplayPort adapter and attempted to hook it up on two different tvs using two different HDMI cords. I've always received a "no signal" message. I've called apple support and I went to geek squad. Is it just impossible for older MacBooks?? I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and all of the forums I've read say that video should work at least. I switched out my adapter for a rocket fish one and still no luck. The geek squad employee couldn't get it to work on either adapters. Please Help!
