Switched to a clean install of WIndows 8 but syncing won't work, how do I log in so i have my data back?

I decided to install a clean version of Windows 8 as a replacement for Win7. So when I looked at what i should save I decided to make a FireFox sync account to retrieve my data when FireFox was installed on my Notebook again.
So today I installed FireFox again but I can't seem to log in, asking about codes a other device made...
Why can't I just log in with my username and password?
I still have the "Windows.old" file, can I do something with that since I suppose I lost all my old data because of that weird codes.

As an alternative to Sync, to find your old Firefox data, try this. Please note that I have not used Windows 8, so you let me know if this doesn't make any sense.
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show folder" button
This should open your Firefox personal settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder in Windows Explorer (or equivalent).
Navigate up one level to the Profiles folder. You may see more than one folder here, but with a new install, you probably only see one.
In the address bar, insert '''Windows.old\''' into the path like so:
C:\'''Windows.old\'''Users\''yourusername''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
If you used a different username on Windows 7, you'll need to edit that part as well. This should take you directly to your old Firefox profile folder(s). I suggest copying those out to a more accessible location.
Your old profile folder(s) contain bookmarks, history, saved passwords, etc. You can migrate as much or as little of it as you want. There are some general articles on that (e.g., [[Recovering important data from an old profile]]), and of course many past threads.

Clean Install of Windows 8 & Some buttons Don't Work

I bought this PC with dead Hard Drive. I installed new Drive and Windows 8 from USB.It only installed as 32bit OS and I know it should have been 64bit. Has 4Gb memory installed.Property screen shows: 4.00GB (2.97GB usable)(32bit OS, x64 Processor). Some of my buttons Don't Work nor does my Microphone. Wow that is so a "Canned" response. Can't install Windows7 on a system that never had 7. This unit was made originally for Vista. And even those do not have drivers I could use. Now if there were device manufacturer information you could give me about my unit then maybe I can get the buttons to work. How to do a clean install of windows 10 on a different drive?

Hi all. Today I decided to make the switch to windows 10. I want to do a clean install, however, because I recently got an SSD and want to install the OS on that instead of on my hard drive. First off, do I even need my product key to do a clean install onto a new drive? I made a clone of my C: dirve just in case something goes wrong, just FYI. My SSD is 100% empty and has 110GB available on it but my main hard drive has about 400GB of stuff on it, so cloning my drive to the SSD is out of the picture. So basically what I want to know is this: 1. Do I need to have my windows key to do a clean install of windows 10 from windows 8.1 onto a different drive.2. The easiest solution would be to back up the data you wish to keep on an external hard drive then delete that data and programs from the old hard drive so that only the OS remains. From there use migration software from your SSD manufacturer to clone the old drive to the new SSD using a USB to SATA cable. The Windows key is embedded in the BIOS and will be recognized by the computer on any installs. It would be advisable to retrieve your key, just in case, using Belarc Advisor which gives you all sorts of info about your computer. How to do a CLEAN INSTALL of Windows 8.1 with a Windows 8 OEM Key

I have recently purchased a new C540 that has Windows 8 already installed on it. I would like to perform a clean install of Windows 8.1 on this computer.
This is what I have done so far:
I disabled 3 things in the BIOS: IIRC, they were secure boot, quick boot, and something about "optimized" startup
I have changed my boot priority to put the CD/DVD drive first and any flashdrive 2nd
I have figured out my OEM Windows Product Key (this is for a Windows 8 Core/64 bit OS)
I have setup a flashdrive with Windows 8.1 on it
I tried to boot from the flashdrive...when I get the option to install windows 8.1, I click on it and very quickly get the following error -- "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key."
I added a PID.txt file with my OEM product key in the Source folder of the Windows 8.1 install....I don't get the above error message immediately, but a screen comes up that asks me to enter a Product Code...my OEM product code (being for W8, not W8.1) does not work while using a generic key (for Windows 8.1 Core) yields the same error message as above and exits the installer.
I then added an EI.CFG file that sets the edition to core, the version to OEM, and the Volume to 0...unfortunately, when trying to install Windows 8.1 it still asks me for a product key before installing...I cannot get past this screen even though (to my understanding) the EI.CFG file should cause the installer to skip asking for a product key...
It is important to me that I get to perform a CLEAN install of Windows 8.1...I do not want to upgrade through windows store...the only keys I have are a W8 Pro Retail key (for my laptop) and a W8 Core OEM key (that came with the new C540)...I am using a flashdrive to perform this since I knew I may have to add/change files like the PID and EI.CFG....
I would appreciate any help I can get in solving this problem...I am also willing to try burning an .iso with the PID and/or EI.CFG, but I'm trying to avoid trial and error with that since it is time consuming, requires an ADK, and may waste DVDs...I'd only make an .iso if (for whatever reason) that would work where a flashdrive woud not...

Error 0x80070015 on clean install of windows 8.1 enterprise

Hi, I am receiving and error 0x80070015 when trying to do a clean install of windows 8.1 enterprise evaluation on to a newly built PC. I am installing from a USB stick to a brand new SSD running in ACHI mode. Each time the installation reaches
12% on the 'getting files ready for installation' I receive this error message. The first time I tried the installation I also got an error message 0x800703ee but this has now stopped.
Please go easy on me, I'm not an IT pro, I want to check out windows 8.1 on this new build to decide if I want to go with it or stick with Windows 7 on this and my other work PC.
Any advice gratefully received.

Hi,
Error code 0x80070015 usually means "device not ready" and is often seen when the USB drive or disc is having issues.
Please re-create a bootable USB or DVD to check the results.
Another thing is that there might be some SATA clash on your system with the new SSD connected. Please try to enter the WinRE from your USB drive and try following commands to create new partition:
1. Use Diskpart command line to show the partition on your disk:
Run CMD as Administrator, type following command line one by one:
DISKPART
List Disk
Select Disk 0
2. Delete the system partition (if there is, it can be about 100~200MB) and C partition, delete these 2:
List Partition
Select Partition 0 (I suspect that there is the system partition on this disk and it’s the partition 0)
Delete Partition
Select Partition 1 (I suspect that this is the C drive)
Delete Partition
3. Create new one.
Create Partition Primary
4. Try to restart system via installation disk and reinstall Windows 8 on it.

Clean install of windows 8 crashing with BSoD: "attempted execute of noexecute memory"

I added a Samsung 840 EVO 250gb SSD to it, and then I attempted to do a clean install of windows 8.1 onto the SSD from
the reinstall DVD that came with the system. Windows 8.1 appears to install correctly, but when the computer restarts to load windows for the first time, I get a BSoD with the error "attempted execute of noexecute memory". I tried reinstalling, but
got the same error.
Note that for testing purposes, I installed windows 7 on the SSD, and it works great. Unfortunately, I do not have a windows
7 key, so this is only a temporary solution. I would like to figure out how to get windows 8.1 on the SSD and running on the my computer.

Can I clean install a Windows 7 Pro System Builder on a Lenovo PC with Windows 8 preinstalled?

Hi. I would like to clean install windows 7 on a Lenovo PC that came with Windows 8 core preinstalled. I want to format the entire drive and remove windows 8 and clean install windows 7. I already tried the clean install of Windows 7 Pro to get all of my drivers in line, and now I would like to buy a Product Key.
Would a Windows 7 Pro System Builder work in my case? Would it work just as smoothly as a retail version? I understand that the System Builder is an OEM version that includes the Product Key, COA, and DVD) Just want to make sure before I buy the System Builder version of Windows 7 Pro. Thanks.

that should be retail since it seemed to be used for pc upgrades either way your new system builder key should work. those are called refresh because they re-released them sincea bug was found in thier installers. Do you have any key in the computer atm? or is windows just waiting to be activated?

Should you want to use the DVD images permanently, and don't own a product key yet, you can order a Windows 7 OEM or retail version from Amazon. The OEM reinstallation versions contain a DVD with a product key just like the retail versions. They are significantly cheaper, but lack a proper box packaging, and don't include technical support by Microsoft. The OEM key will work with the Digital River downloads, so you can just pick the cheapest one. Sometimes better editions are the cheaper ones, so all of the following links to Amazon offers might be worth checking. I've already tried to find good deals for all editions and linked to them here:

Please review the HP software and driver download page for drivers/software that are compatible with Windows 7. Also note that there is a BIOS update for Windows Vista that improves the system's ability to function with WIndows 7. Also read "Alerts" and other information regarding this product and Windows 7.

As Maliha said (or implied) that doesn't work. Just copying installed programs doesn't set up the registry entries or any data folders and files they may use in your user files.
You might consider copying your entire user directory to large flash or DVD or external hard drive as a way to preserve your personal data and program data files. Things like Thunderbird mail or Firefox bookmarks are in C:\users\kathleenklein\appdata\... (which may not be visible unless you make them so) and can be plugged back into your Windows 7 install.

First, have you made your factory recovery media? That ensures that you can revert to factory Lenovo setup if you ever want to. To give the machine to your little brother, for instance. It will burn a pair of CDs and one or more DVDs.
You can/should also use R&R to save a current whole-disk image to external media. That lets you fall back to your current setup if necessary. This is likely to be fairly large. An external hard drive is usually required. Use advanced R&R to set up the target and start things off. Once you are sure that Win 7 is going to work for you, you can get rid of the saved Vista image and use the drive for your Windows 7 backups. You do make backups...
R&R can't (AFAIK) save your Vista user stuff and restore it to WIn 7.
Is this a clean install using Lenovo media or is it Microsoft vanilla? I just did a MS Vanilla 7 install. Since the service and recovery partitions in the Lenovo Visa drive configuration will be useless in a WIn 7 install (if MS vanilla) I used the advanced option and had the Win 7 install delete all partitions and just do its thing. After installing '7, install the latest TVSU and let it pull down the basic/necessary Lenovo drivers and apps. After that you may choose to install the latest R&R. Surprisingly, it can be used to make backups even without the Lenovo partitions present. I've verified that by making a full image and restoring to a bare drive.
It's handy to Install '7, do a MS update, install TVSU, do a Lenovo update, install R&R and then burn a recovery set of CDs and DVDs so you can rewind to a sort of base-usefull-initially-updated condition should that be necessary.

Clean install of Windows 8

I am about to perform a clean install of Windows 8, however I don't want to lose my copies of Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 and Premiere Elements 7.0. These programs were both pre-installed on my Sony-Vaio so I don't have a media disc for them. How can I retain these programs and activate them on my updated PC?

A clean install of Windows 8 will wipe out your other files by definition as will the recovery disks. Fortunately, Windows 8 has some new Maintenance options not seen in prior versions. You can try an OS "refresh" which will install new Windows 8 system files without disturbing your data or settings.

Satellite P305-S8820 - FN key not working after clean install of Windows 7

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite P305-S8820. I recently did a clean install of Windows 7. I have loaded the Toshiba value added driver pack and the trackpad driver but still cannot get the trackpad or the FN key to work.
Any ideas?

You are like other millions other users and what you can read is relevant for you but sometimes it works a little bit different. For you it can be useless but sometimes it helps. Fact is that this utility is offered for some notebook models.
Generally speaking you are right and after VAP installation the job should be done but Ive faced the same problem in the past. Sometimes it works well and sometimes not. You will not believe me but in the past I used stuff for Satellite P300 to get all stuff working on Satellite A350. I cannot explain why this happen and it sounds crazy but it is the truth.
You can also try to play a little bit with VAP installation. Try to install VAP for A300/A350/P300. Generally speaking it is the same and if this will not work well you can remove it from the system.
Launcher for flash cards? It must be listed in MSCONFIG > startup > TcrdMain.exe
