Switching from Entourge to Mail, Address Book and iCal - HELP!

Has anyone out there previously been a fan of Entourage but switched to Mail, Address Book and iCal on Mac? Im consistently disappointed in Entourage and it's database corruptions, but dont want to have to open three apps to do the same thing! Anyone out there made this switch and rectified this dilemma in their minds?
I truly wish the next Mac OS would merge these into one program like Entourage, but until then, any insight?
Thanks!
Kevin

In Mail.app, try pulling down the File menu and select the "import mailboxes" item.
To sync your PDA, use Apple's iSinc. Info on iSync is available here ...

  • Sync Mail, Address Book and iCal

I am getting a MBP to go with my iMac and want a software product that lets me sync iCal, Mail & Address Book between the two machines. Both the iMac and MBP will be running 10.6.x. Of course I know about MobileMe but I want something I don't have to pay an annual license for. I have found one product called *SyncTogether for Mac* which looks interesting but they don't have a trial version .
If anyone has some suggestions I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks,

The isync database, as I called it, is really just the master database from which ical, address book, bookmarks, etc., are stored, and it's used for syncing with the .mac service. Entourage can sync with it too, just go to the Entourage menu, choose Preferences, and look under General Preferences for Sync Services. Then check the boxes you want -- I just wanted the contacts to be the same in Entourage and Address Book so I only checked that one. The calendar is kind of funky because iCal uses separate calendars to group events, and I think if you check that box, iCal will then get a new calendar called Entourage, or something like that, in which all the Entourage events will go to and from. That is, I think Entourage will sync only with that iCal calendar, but I could be wrong about that since I don't use it.
Once you check the contacts box, Entourage will populate with all the contacts in your Address Book, and I think if you don't already have contacts there (that is if you've only been using Entourage for your contacts) then it will ask you if you want to put all your Entourage contacts into Address Book. I just don't remember.
Surely someone else out there is more familiar with this, but it should get you started.

  • Moving from Entourage to Mail/Address Book

Hi, I am currently using Entourage 2004 where I have my Mac account and two other email accounts syncing. I was interested in using Apple Mail, Address Book and iCal instead. Is there a way to export my email history within all of the folders and subfolders to Mail from Entourage? Likewise, can I bring in the contacts list and calendar in Entourage to the Address Book and iCal?
    Thanks.

BDAqua, I have one IMAP and two POP accounts. So as you may know, Entourage splits the two different eMail configs into two separate folder trees. Will Mail, bring in bother folder systems?

  • Moving Mail, Address Book and Keychains from Old Computer to New Computer

My issue: Moving mail, address book and keychains from Panther (old machine) to Leopard (new machine). Old machine (500mh G4 power pc) will not connect directly via firewire to new machine (iMac intel). So, I have to move the files manually via a firewire hard drive.
I am looking for a document that will tell me exactly which files to move. Can someone please help me find this document? Thank you. Dale
P.S. I have no issues with installing Leopard. I only need to move the mail, address book and keychains from old to new machine. No .mac account is available.

for address book: go to your old mac, launch ab, and go to file>export and export your contacts as vcards, select all cards before that, then bring that export file to the new mac, and launch ab there, then go to file>import as vcards and you should be set as far as contacts are, but not as far as groups if you have extensive groups. that would be the safe option. the other option is to go to homefolder/library/application support/address book and move that folder to the new mac. the only question i have is... is the database structure and files the same between panther and leopard, which is why i suggest the first option of import/export of vcards.
for mail, in your old panther go to homefolder/library/mail and move that mail folder to the new mac. make a copy of that folder, then move one copy to the same location in the new mac.
for keychain, in your old panther go to homefolder/library/keychain, you want to bring the file that is in that folder to your new mac. make a copy of that folder, then move one copy to the same location in the new mac.
once that is done, you may have to do some more steps with mail, once you launch mail, such as importing mailboxes. let me know if that is the case.
    hope this helps

  • Need help with Mail address book and calendar.

    Hello,
I am a new Mac User. I just purchased my first MacBook. My goal is to switch totally over to Mac for both home and work. I was able to get the mail program to pull down my exchange mail, however it does not appear to have taken in my address book.
My goal would be for my machine to totally sync up with my mail, and calendar the same way that my iPhone does. Is there a way to do this?
If I can't get my contacts and calendar to "sync". I will not be able to use my Mac at work.
Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jason

I do not believe you can sync your data between Outlook and Address Book and iCal. You can transfer data using a third-party utility, Outlook2Mac. However, you could integrate with your Outlook account using Entourage, one of the Office 2008 applications. You would have to purchase Microsoft Office 2008.

  • Why Not One App for Mail, Address Book, and Cal?

I don't understand the logic of why Apple continues to keep all these applications seperated!
Why do I need iCal, Address Book, and Mail - three seperate applications that should really be under one. All three of these apps are connected to each other, so they should all be under the same umbella! Why waste the memory and processing power having all three open and just consolidate them all into one app like every other messaging client!
Can anybody explain to me why Apple continues to keep these items in seperate applications?

Personal preference but I prefer having three separate applications.
Name like every other email client besides Microsoft's Entourage and Outlook that include all three applications under one umbrella. Entourage and Outlook define a bloated application IMO.
Entourage stores ALL data in a single large database which I'm not a fan of. If a problem develops with a single database that stores all data, there is the potential for all data to be lost. For the Mail.app, Address Book and iCal to be combined, it would probably require the same. Each has its own data files and storage location now.
When using the Mail.app, there is no reason to keep the Address Book application launched and running unless you need to edit an existing contact. You can add an email address to the Address Book that is not already entered from a received or sent message or from the list of Previous Recipients in Mail.
When the Mail.app, Address Book and iCal are launched, they take up some real memory (obviously) but combined, not much more than Entourage. When Entourage is launched and not being used, it is ALWAYS in an Active Processes state along with the Entourage Database Daemon which is not the same with the Mail.app, Address Book and iCal.

  • I have lost all my address book and iCal content on my MacBook Pro. How do I restore from my iPhone?

I have lost all my address book and iCal content on my MacBook Pro. How do I restore from my iPhone? I tried synchronising my iPhone to the MacPro but then lost all the content on the iPhone. I managed to get it back using the restore. This means the only content I have for Address Book and iCal sits on my iPhone!

Put one unique entry in both iCal & Address Book on your Mac. These entries can be fake, that doesn't matter, just make sure Address Book & iCal are not empty. Then when you select to sync contacts & calendars on the Info pane in iTunes, you'll get a merge or replace prompt. Select merge.

  • I fixed my iSync Problem it now syncs Address book and iCal on 10.4.9

Ever since updating to the latest version of OS X 10.4.9 iSync didn't work anymore with my Sony Z520i.
Neither Address Book or iCal wouldn't sync at all and I tried everything even a fresh erase and Install.
Someone here on this forum told me to delete the folder SyncServices found in ~/library/Aplicatrion Support/SyncServices. I did that but it still didn't work so I replaced the same folder from the trash. I then launched iSync again, it did sync my address book only. I couldn't select the option for iCal in iSync anymore until I resynced my iCal in my Mac prefrences, after that I could select it in iSync but it would still fail.
So I deleted two files that belong to iCal located in ~/library/Aplication Support/iCal the two files are sync.plist and syncState.plist
When I tried it it worked perfectly iSync synced both address book and iCal and I have been testing it without any problems updating my address book and iCal for the last few days.
    It's 100% fixed :)

  • 3G IPod nano won't sync with Address Book and iCal

I connected my new 3G iPod nano (4GB) to USB2.0 port of aluminum keyboard on new 20" aluminum iMac. MP3 song files (total 623) transferred without problem, but whenever I tried to enable syncing of Address Book and iCal under Contacts tab in iTunes 7.4.1 window, error message popped up stated that there are no contacts in Address Book when there are actually 57 contacts already in Address Book. Creating new contacts in Address Book and recreating address book and iTunes library files in user's library folder did not help at all. The syncing of Address Book only work under new user account in Mac OS 10.4.10 (with all Apple updates applied). May I know what have gone wrong with my account ?
I have wasted one hour with call routed to hopeless Apple support center in India. They only want you to keep reseting everything until it work so that they can put the blame on you.

I have had same problem since I got my nano 2 months ago. At least with latest firmware update, when you DO see Contacts they contain their complete Notes! I have tried using iTunes sync to sync my full AddressBook with 900 entries, but this routinely failed to load any more than 600 entries with message saying so. Calendar has been even more problematic until I created a sub-view of my full calendar with just the prior 1 month and future 2 months event entries; then at least I could see the Calendar - but NEVER after immediately a sync, only after i reset the Nano. And finally I have used iPDA (ZappTek) to transfer News, RSS feeds, Weather updates for cities, & selected Documents and these too transfer completely (as inspection of the iPod as Disk shows), but needs a full reset to get them to show. Even then when you first highlight the "Notes" menu option you see it display "No Notes" but then when you click/select it, it starts "Loading them with a counter: sometimes the count is complete, sometimes it "aborts" and then you can only see some of the notes you loaded. I view this as a bug. I believe that the Nano is indexing these entries and either completes it or aborts, for an unknown "bug" reason. The ZappTek developer suggested there is a definite RAM (not storage) limitation in the Nano which prevents the Nano from handling very large sets of entries, but I should think a software update might be able to fix this by not trying to load everything at once.
    Hope this helps.

  • System Preferences, Address book, and ical suddenly won't open

As I said My system Preferences, Address book, and ical suddenly won't open. This seemed to have happen all at once. The only unusual thing to happen lately is that my ipod was corrupted and I resored it last night. Now when I try to open these programs I get one or two bounces on the icon, then nothing. My other programs including itunes seem to work fine. There are no error messages at all.

/System/Library/Frameworks/Message.framework/Versions/B/Message (file is empty)OK, this is an important part of your basic system and will need to be restored.
First you should boot from your Install Disk and repair your disk: see Using Disk Utility and fsck to resolve startup issues or perform disk maintenance.
Then I think you would be wise to consider an Archive & Install. See Mac OS X : About the Archive and Install Feature. This should put back the missing file(s). You will also then need to re-apply the Mac OS X 10.3.9 Update (Combo), and anything else Software Update says is missing.
Post back and let us know how you get on!

  • How to sync Address Book and iCal with Samsung GT-S5670 (Galaxy Fit) with Android 2.2 running?

How to sync Address Book and iCal with Samsung GT-S5670 (Galaxy Fit) with Android 2.2 running?
Couldn't find any iSync Plug-in nor software for Samsung phones fitting ...
    Thanx for any help!

    Hello,
if you need to sync your media files as well, you might want to have a look at FoneSync for Android. It features an iTunes like interface and syncs contacts, calendars, music and photos.
    Kind regards
