Switching from PC...need iphone help

hey im about to get my macbook pro in for graduation and was wondering what all i needed to do to keep all my iphone settings and contacts that i currently have when i switch over...im currently on a PC running windows XP.
note that i entered all my contacts manually and dont have a mail account on my server that they back up to that i am aware of. I honestly have never messed with that tab and just need some advice here! thanks!

Perhaps this topic would be better suited for the iPhone Mail, Contacts and Calendar forum?

Can't send imessage to someone who has switched from android to iphone, but kept the same number

    One thing you can try
Turn iMessage off on your phone
Reset your phone - no data loss
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Then activate iMessage and start a new conversation and see what happens

  • IMESSAGE PROBLEM. Switching from android to iphone

I'm having problems with my iPhone 4s . my carrier is tmobile. I can't receive messages from other iPhones and I'm looking for any suggestions out there to fix this problem for me. I tried resetting the network settings. I switched from android gs3 to this iPhone 4s. I just took out my sim card from the gs3 to the iPhone 4s. I shut off my imessage. I went to verify my account to the macbook t. See if I can plug it into to that imessage and it will start connecting but it didn't work. Any suggestions?

  • The Switch from Android to iPhone

    Hello everyone,
For about 4,5  years now, I have always been using Android smartphones. I have never regretted buying them and I have always loved them. The main things that made me choose for android were the freedom and customization. I have always been experimenting with different custom ROMs, trying to adjust the way I use my device exactly the way I wanted to. I had never even considered buying an Apple device.
About a year ago I was looking for a tablet. I went to the store to have a look at the different android tablets. In the store however, I noticed the android tablets not running nearly as smooth as my phones always had. Just for the heck of it I also took a look at the iPads and I was intrigued by how smooth they ran. A lot of internet research and store visits eventually made me choose the iPad mini. I did not only want a smoothly running device, I also wanted to try out a different operating system. Furthermore, I also somehow wanted to reserve the endless customization and messing around with different ROMs for my phone. I wanted the tablet just to run smoothly and work. Apart for a slight image retention problem, my iPad Mini works great and I never regretted buying it despite of my earlier dislike for Apple.
However, even after buying the iPad, I could still never imagine myself buying an iPhone. Until recently. Allthough I still really like my blazing smooth Galaxy S3, I am kind of losing the interest for constantly changing ROMs and the endless customizability. It was fun having all those options open, lately I have always been looking for ROMs that simpely work properly without any hassle and that run smoothly. The thought of switching to iPhone has crossed my mind several times, but I am still unsure.
I was wondering if there are any people who have recently made the switch from Android to iOS and how they experienced it? I think I'll like having an iPhone for its simplicity and smoothness, but I am also afraid that I might miss widgets, custom MP3 players, and the freedom to download and open any file or easily send them from my phone.
How have other ex-android users experienced this switch? What difference did you like most and which android features did you miss (in the beginning)?
I hope to hear from you :)

Ok, no widgets and I do miss those occasionally. However, I have other music players on my phone than the built in one. And, I've yet to find a file that I could put on my Android phone and use that I couldn't also put on my iPhone. In both cases, I generally email files to myself.
Things that I like on Android phones that I can't get on an iPhone: ability to schedule SMSs for a later time, ability to use a different messaging app for SMS, ability to set profiles for settings based on time, location, etc with apps like Tasker.
On the other hand, my iPhone never crashes (I found custom ROMs to be a nightmare). It integrates beautifully with my iPad and lots of other devices. Siri is, for me, much better than Google's voice features, though that gap is closing. And, as the Apple App Store is more lucrative for developers than the Google Play store, the apps that I want and use, in my opinion, seem to be better. I find the user experience on an iPhone just more pleasant. And, I think you'll find that an iPhone 5S is just as "blazing" as a Galaxy S4... forget the S3!
    Best of luck.

  • Switching from Comcast - Need some Assistance

I have been a Comcast subscriber for many years now, but have heard that FiOS is supposed to be better. However, there are a few things that make me somewhat ambivalent about switching. First off, I've had Comcast for years, and have had a few issues with them, but not THAT many. So I don't know if it'd be worth it to change, since a new provider might not be as good. But also, I noticed that carriage of local channels is different on FiOS than it would be on cable, since I would assume it would be the same throughout the entire market. For instance, in the Boston area, some communities near the Rhode Island border receive Providence channels as well as Boston on cable, but not on FiOS. I've also heard that FiOS' On Demand selections are rather different. I know there's tons of movies on demand, but what about TV shows, and local events? I also saw a post here from someone who doesn't get local weather on their system. So I've heard that in a way, FiOS is more like satellite than it is like cable.
Anyway, I'm sure that many of you here who now have FiOS TV have switched from cable, and let me ask you this: Have any of you ever considered switching back? Why, or why not?

    fair question.
I switched from comcast to verizon at the end of last year.
my sole reason for switching was due to savings of $40/month.  To me, the quality, speed, and service appears to be the same (or hardly noticeable to make a significant difference).
the main advantage for switching to FIOS is money.  Some small advantages FIOS has over Comcast is some of their local networks on-demand content.  I believe that Comcast only provides CBS while Verizon offers ABC, NBC, and CBS (neither carry Fox on-demand).
the main disadvantage to me is that you do NOT need a set-top box to get all of the channels with comcast.  a simple splitter will suffice.  for FIOS, you need to rent the box for each tv or else you will not get a picture.  another disadvantage is that the free movies on Comcast are far more vast and far better than Verizon.  However, Verizon is aware of this and are slowly adding more content throughout this year.
As for customer serivce, it's hit or miss with both.  You'll read many horror stories and happy stories from both sides, so to me, that's almost a risk or expectation with any paid service.
that being said, FIOS has made considerable advancements in technology in their internet and cable service over the past few years while keeping the costs to the consumers down.  comcast, on the other hand, has not made any significant technological advances (at least none that I know of, although they do claim to double your internet speed every year, but so does everyone else).
thus, even though I must rent a box for each of my 6 tvs, I'm still saving $40/month, but we'll see what happens when the 1-year promotion ends this december.
You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there. --Yogi Berra

  • Switching from the original iPhone to the iPhone 3GS

Ok, so I have the old school iPhone. The one before all this 3g nonsense came into play. I am thinking about upgrading to the new 3GS.
So lets say I do decide to upgrade. When I put my SIM card from my old iphone into the new one, will I keep all of my text conversations, recent calls, voicemails, last page I visited on youtube/safari? I know when you sync your iphone it backs up data into itunes. But im just not sure what exactly what all of the data it does back up, you know what I mean?
Oh, and if I back up data on my old school iPhone, then sync a brand spankin new 3gs to the same itunes i backed up data on my old school iphone, will all my data switch to the new one?

  • Recent Switcher from XLS needs help on Formatting UPC Codes in Cells

I frequently need to have 11 and 12 digit UPCs in my cells. Many of them have a leading ZERO. XLS has a way to custom format for them so it does not drop the leading zero or you can put it back if it has been dropped on opening.
Is there a way to custom format a text cell to include that leading ZERO or put it back in a column it has been dropped from?

    OK,
I wished to know how they must be displayed.
In column B I used the formula:
    =LEFT(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),1)&" "&MID(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),2,5)&"-"&MID(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),7,5)&" "&RIGHT(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),1)
    In column C I used:
    =LEFT(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),6)&" "&RIGHT(RIGHT("00000"&A,12),6)
If you tell me which is the correct format I would be able to give an AppleScript doing the formatting easily with no auxiliary column.

  • Editing iTune Playlists online from desktop (without iPhone) Help?

Hi - so new at this - help!?  Long story short - iPhone gone (now have a Droid).  I need to get into my music ONLINE (from my desktop) to delete like several 100 songs before I transfer to my new phone. Had no prob transfering thru an app from one to the other but it took EVERYTHING, killing most of my memory and
like said most are trash anyway, so I cleared the new phone to start over. What I wanted and or thought I should or could do was go into Itunes - sign in and then EDIT my music (getting rid of the bad tunes) and then REDOWNLOAD onto my Droid.
But when I get to the itunes store I can sign in to the account fine (on my DESKTOP) but can't seem to get into my music lists???
I don't have the iphone anymore (so I can't connect which before triggered me right to my music lists online) - HELP PLEASE (be so appreciated!)

    Hi,
My Son has an iPhone and we can get his phone to Play my iTunes songs
However on his Phone he gets a message about only playing the songs that are linked to his Apple ID (i.e on his own computer).
Is it possible to "Share" other peoples iTunes Libraries in the way described in this thread ?

  • Transferring an app (no longer in appstore/on PC) from iPad to iPhone - help please

I have a bit of a problem. I have an app on my iPad which I also want to put on my iPhone. I, nowadays, sync via iCloud. This is the situation:
    1. The app no longer exists in the app store. I do have the app on my iPad.
    2. I do no longer have the app on my computer, however the app icon does show up in iTunes (back since I used to sync my iPad with my computer and not iCloud) only if I right-click it I get told it can no longer be located on my computer.
    3. I want this app on my iPhone too (and to make a computer backup to keep) but can obviously not get it from the appstore or iCloud.
    4. I connected my iPad to my PC and right-clicked in iTunes on my iPad and choose "Transfer my purchases", with some hangups etc this took all night and it transferrred something like 300 apps. I thought this would mean it would put all the .ipa files on my PC? But when I right-click on the app icon in iTunes it still says that it can not locate the app. So I guess I was wrong in thinking it would transfer/copy all my bought app files...?
Can someone help and, please, please tell me that there is a way to get this app onto my iPhone and also onto my PC so I can back it up for the future.
Thanks very much for any help in advance.

Thanks to both of you for replying so quickly, I really appreciate it!
King_Penguin, this solved it! Thank you so very much The app is now on my PC & on my iPhone and I'm busy making a spare copy onto another harddrive too.
I'm so happy, thanks again for the help!
