Symbol Font Doesn't Display

Is there a way to use greek letters from the Symbol fontset in iWeb?

It appears that other
fonts, not just Lucida Grande also have a Greek
character set. For example, here is Times Roman
Greek: αβγ What's so special about Lucida Grande?
In 10.3 Lucida Grande is the only one. In 10.4 you have Helvetica and Times as well. If you have Office 2004, you also have Arial and Times New Roman I think. Here's a FAQ:

Snow Leopard Symbol font doesn't always work in MS Office

I have to share files between MS Office 2011 for Mac and MS Office 2010 for Windows. As a mathematician, I use the Symbol font on my Mac frequently, but when I open those files in Windows, different characters have been substituted for the characters I typed. Can I change something I'm doing on the Mac side to have the characters display correctly on my PC, or do I need to approach the problem from the Windows side? Why isn't the Symbol font universally compatible? Is there another variation in the Symbol font family that would be more compatible?

You may be using the legacy symbol character encoding, which is not a good idea any more, as most apps have moved to Unicode. Instead of using the Symbol font, make your characters by going to the Character Viewer (Edit > Special Characters), view = Roman, Tab = By Category, Category = Math, Digits, Greek
PS Depending on what app you are working in, you might want to use an Equation Editor rather than just typing symbols directly:

Font doesn't display correctly in interactions

I'm using the font Swis721 Cn BT in my Captivate file and I've found that the only time it doesn't display properly after the file is published is when it's used in interactions. The image below shows the font being used as the black text above the interaction but it's defaulting to Times New Roman for all the text in the interaction. The font problem also only exists on other computers. When I view the published file on my computer the font problem doesn't exist.
Any ideas on why the font only has issues in interactions?

I also need to add that the font problem exists on the results slide for the reported variables. The default text and the variable are both assigned to the same font yet the variables are defaulting to Times New Roman.

Hi sangeeta, the problem with writing code to solve this problem is that you likely need to create a table or a pair of arrays to contain the corresponding characters. As long as you are going to do that, it might be easier to edit the pages. Or add an external script to those pages to "fix" the references.
If you are saying that the HTML pages are out of your control, that's harder...
Is it an option to load the page dynamically onto your server so it can be processed by ASP.Net and then served using a URL from your server?
If not, are your page and the framed page on the same server? In that case, perhaps a JavaScript function that "fixes" the page could be useful.
If not, it's hard to see how you can overcome the "same origin" security constraints and get to the framed page.

Font doesn't display in output video

Hi everyone,
I've got a problme with After Effects CS6.
I've installed it on a windows 8 and i've downloaded some fonts on the web.
I've installed them in the C:/Windows/fonts folder.
When I open After Effects, the texte is correctly displayed.
But when i make a render of my video, the font is replaced by Times New Roman font.
I don't understand why After Effects does that.
Can anybody help me ?

First, sorry for my late answer, i just see it now
Let me give you more details.
I'm on a windows server 2012, with after effects cs6.
The text layer used is a simple text layer with a Brady Bunch font -> the regular one, ttf format.
This texte layer is changed automatically via expressions and a txt file which is uploaded at every render by a new text.
In fact, every render is different because i change photo and text at every time.
The output render type is H.264, with audio output 32.000Khz, just let me give you a screen, it's gonna be more easy for me :

Embedded font doesn't display the same at runtime

Hi,
For whatever reason, I have chosen Aerial Black for some read-only TLF text (anti-alias = "readability"), but at runtime, it looks more like Times Roman.
Any idea?

The font displays the alphabet fine if I check it via the font box in Motion. It also displays properly if I open the Keynote file on the MP.
There are no Latin characters in Corsiva Hebrew. When you use it for Latin characters, you are actually seeing a different font regardless of what it says in a font menu. The substitution occurs automatically, normally with Lucida Grande I think.
Look carefully at this font in size 72 and see if you can see any difference from Lucida Grande. Send me a screen shot if you like (tom at bluesky dot org).

Font doesn't display as the selected font

I wanted to use a particular font 'Corsiva Hebrew' in a project. I imported it from my Powerbook to the font folder, but when I use it in the project it displays as another font. Looking at it in 'view fonts' it is fine. I have restarted etc. Is there something else I should do or is this a font that won't work in Motion?

Any website that uses remote fonts doesn't display properly.

This webpage is a great example and yahoo mail is another one. The fonts are pixilated with incorrect spacing. I've tried disabling addons and extensions, I've reinstalled Firefox, I've tried different settings in about:config, I've tried disabling hardware acceleration and nothing works

Font doesn't display correctly!

Hi,
I am trying to setFont on a JTextField and I am getting rectangles instead of any character that I type on that text field!
The font is true type font (.ttf)
Any idea what could the problem be?

Symbol font not displayed correctly in WebHelp output

I have TCS 2. I have a character format that uses the Symbol font. It displays correctly in FM and in the RH Design Editor. But in the WebHelp output, the Symbol font displays as Arial. What did I do wrong?

What browser are you using? Most probably, your browser does not support the symbol font out of the box and therefore defaults back to Arial. My guess is that it will work on IE, but not on other browsers. This is because Symbol isn't a default web font.
To overcome this, you must use the @font-face rule in your css and provide the font file as a baggage file in your project. For more info on @font-face, see: http://www.font-face.com/.

This site shows Greek letters and Greek words by calling for the Windows Symbol font. The page(s) involved display correctly in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox 3.6.1 or 8.1. In Firefox, the Greek letter does not appear, it is just replaced with the English letter for the equivalent keystroke. Here is a html line that ought to cause Symbol's Greek letter lowercase alpha to be displayed, but all you get is an "a" :

Reemphasizing, the page code works on Internet Explorer. It does _not_ work with Firefox ver 3.6.1 nor ver 8.0.1 (which I upgraded to, to see if that would solve the problem). The MDC FAQ solution is not a solution, because it forces the html coder to change his language just to accommodate Firefox. Firefox needs to change to conform to standards.

I think Firefox wants you to use _its_ font faces, not the standard Windows fonts. They do not have a Symbol font to replace the Windows TTF, I guess.

No problems here with the H1 headers.
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
* Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)

Safari doesn't display the correct fonts.

Safari doesn't display all fonts correctly. All that is displayed is a boxed A. See screenshot. All the other browsers (Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Omniweb, Camino) don't have this problem. I tried clearing the cache of Safari as well as the system font cache. I use FontExplorer X Pro 3.1 to manage my fonts. No other software has this kind of problems.

Symbol font not displaying

I'm creating a presentation and I need to use Greek letters. The symbol font is installed on my computer (font book sees it an displays it properly). Keynote 2.0.2 does not want to use this font. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to fix this? I have done 'duct tape' solutions like using LaTeX to create a pdf that shows the desired character and then importing it as an image, but that is not ideal.

I solved it by switching to the MMGreek font. Didn't even know I had it. It's a little counterintuitive ('mu' is not linked to 'm') but it'll work. I guess I should look through my whole list before I get too excited.
