I just purchased an iPhone 4S and downloaded Mac OS X on my Mac Book Pro. Synchronization between my iPhone and my Mac Book does not work with iCloud. Why?
You have set everything up - entered apple id, are connected to the Internet, Mac os x lion update installed enabling iCloud, etc?

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

I have a MAC Book Pro with maximum RAM added and tried to download Mountain Lion and after 20 hours only 1.50GB downloaded of 4.37GB. Very slow and set my machine not to sleep overnight or anything. Should I give up and stick with my snow leopard?
I think that since Apple just released the Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Update and iOS 6, their download servers are being somewhat overloaded. It may pay to try again in a day or two after things calm down a little. It also depends on where you live and how fast your ISP download speeds are.

I got my mac book pro in the U.S., but I will be travelling to where there is 240 volt power. Does the mag safe power adapter switch automatically, so I just need a converter plug, or do I need a transformer to convert from 240 to 120 volts? Thanks.

I too bought my Macbook Pro in the US and I live in the UK (its so much cheaper in the US! No 20% VAT!)
The power adapter does work on UK 230v power. You can also get a three pin extension lead (like the 2 pin US one that came with the MBP) for about £3 with free delivery from Amazon UK.
Another tip, whne you are back in the UK, and you are switching from a PC to a Mac, get in touch with your local Apple Shop who run one to one free courses on how to use your MBP.

Mac book pro with Komplete 4 and other AU plugins
I just got a full loaded mac book pro, NI Komplete 4 , korg legacy digital edition, Arturia minimoog v. and haven't got any of them to run successfully with Logic pro 7 (7.2.3).
they run as stand alones but logic is having trouble finding them, i have tried the AU manager and it can't see them, All the logic instruments are there, what am i forgeting, i have been pulling my hair out for days.

As the previous poster suggested, not all of the instruments in K4 are universal binaries. I have K4 running on a Mac Pro, and outside of bugs on the NI side, it is working fine with Logic. Run all the updates you can find through the service center. Some of those updates make an instrument a universial binary. For example, out of the box B4 II is still PPC. All the software will run under rosetta, but Logic will only see instruments that are UB. After you run all the updates, you can check which instruments are not UB by going into the system profiler and checking the software tab. From memory, spectral delay and vokator are not, Battery 3, Absynth 4, B4 II, Akoustic Piano, Kontakt, FM8, and Reaktor are all UB.

If you have the divx extension installed in Safari > Preferences - Extensions, click Uninstall.
Quit then relaunch Safari, try a .mov file.
You can always re install the extension if that didn't help. -

I'm a new Mac owner, and I changed completely over to Apple over the weekend. Have na iMac and Mac Book Pro with a 2 TB Time Capsule. Hooked everythng up and all seems to be working, except everytime my computers go into sleep mode when I wake them up they ask me to select my wireless network again because I lost connection. Once I select my network it works fine until the computer goes to sleep. WhenI wake it up, it asks me again. I have it set to automatically connect to known networks, but it doesn't. I have to click on it everytime I wake up the computer. Before I hooked up the TC, I was using my old wireless router and it stayed connected. Now that I put the TC in as my wireless neteork it asks me to select my network. Is there something I'm not doing that may help the iMac and Mac Book Pro stay connected?
Thanks.For that particular WiFi update, yes - it means you can't download it. However, that update may have been included already in M-L 10.8 ...
I feel your pain regarding these anomalies - I had the same problems on my year-old iMac that I just exchanged with Apple for a new one - I had worked these software/network issues on the old one for over five months, and finally, I demanded a new system as a replacement. Just too many problems. For me, Update 10.7.3 for Lion was the cause of my network problems. The WiFi update/patch solved the sleep issue for me, but not the auto-connect problem for system start-up's and restart's. After system start-up's and restart's, I would have to manually select my router address to connect via WiFi. But after manually selecting the address, the WiFi connection would stay-on - it wouldn't drop-off.
Again, with this replacement iMac, I don't even trust its WiFi capability - and with a desktop, why should I ? I simply purchased a Cat-6 Ethernet cable, and wired it into my Time Capsule ... To heck with WiFi ! ... Remember: don't download ANY system updates wirelessly ! Don't do it. ... Apple will rue the day they did away with Ethernet connectors on their computers ... - The same goes for CD-based software, or at least some other "physical" means for software installation ...
But, as for future system updates, and how they affect this new iMac ? - If they screw it up, I'm not messing with it ! - Apple's getting it back, the next day ! I'm not going to go through five months of testing, repairs, forced new purchases, etc. etc. ever again ... -
My 3G unlocked iPhone is not syncing mail or contacts from my mac book pro, using Lion. I am able to get a calendars and music, only. I get the message that I need to reset the password which I have done 3x's on the phone and on the Apple server.
Good to know that, but what can I do to get the mail and contacts downloaded from Icloud onto my Iphone? I am told that the password needs to be reset and I have erased and reset it 3x's already? Should I Restore All Settings or Restore Network Settings or will that result in a situation where I have to have it re-unlocked again? GRACIAS!

To change the name of a device connect it to the Mac, launch iTunes.
Double click the name under Devices in the source list left side of the iTunes window.

Hi- I keep getting an error message show up when I sync my iPhone to my Mac Book Pro. the message is that I can't copy to the Macintosh disc because I don' have enough access privileges. Then when I click ok my phone gets stuck syncing. any thoughts?
Sounds like a possible permissions issue, try repairing the permissions using Disk Utility.
You can open Disk Utility several ways.
1. Use the Spotlight in the Upper Right corner of the screen and search for it, then click it to open it.
2. Open a new finder window (File> New Window)
- Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility
3. Click on the Finder
- Click 'Go' in the menu bar across the top of the screen.
- Click Utilities, then double click on Disk Utility.
Once Disk Utility is open there should be a column on the left side, the name of your hard drive should be listed there.
(By Default it is named Mac HD or Macintosh HD)
Click on it to highlight it.
There should then be a few buttons you can click
- Verify Disk Permissions
- Repair Disk Permissions
- Verify Disk
- Repair Disk

That is probably a lot of stuff you do not want on your iPhone. So this can be handled a few different was. For you current situation, you can delete the apps directly on your iPhone by holding on the app until it starts to jiggle and then tap on the X of all the apps that you do not want. The second thing you can do is before you sync with iTunes, look at the app section on your iPhone to know what gets transfer to it and you can deselect items that you do not want. Lastly, if you download content on your iPad and it is a universal app, you can actually download it directly to your iPhone by looking at your past purchases and download it directly from the App Store. Syncing outlook over a iMac and Mac Book Pro
I'm having some trouble figuring out how to sync outlook over a iMac and Mac Book Pro without connecting them by a cable each time.
Had the Mac Book first and did a migrate to the iMac. Everything is working fine but when I open an email on one it doesn't show that its already been opened on the other.
Is there a way to get outlook to update itself, or a program out there that will do this for me.It sounds like you're using a POP mail account. POP accounts do not send any information back to the mail server, so another computer downloading the same mail will have no idea what has been read and what hasn't.
IMAP accounts do have two-way communication with the server, so you will be able to sync read mail, as well as store folders on the server and have them accessible to both computers.
Check with your mail provider whether they have IMAP access. You may have to change the server addresses and ports that Outlook uses, but they will be able to give you that information.
Caution: if you end up removing the POP account and adding it back in as IMAP, make sure you save your inbox and sent mail to a local folder first - otherwise it'll be lost.

All I can call it is a complete failure, I built this computer using the K9A2GM mobo and it's just not working anymore. I get 3 beeps at bootup and the manual doesn't even tell me what they mean! Any of you have a clue? I noticed when I ran Windows E
