Sync messages between Apple products

How do I sync my messages on my iPad to messages on my iPhone.  When I go into the settings on my iPad to add my cell phone number to receive iMessages, it will not allow me to enter a phone number.

    Hi Hawgjohn,
The new continuity features with iOS 8 are awesome, but they do take some setup to work properly.  Luckily Apple has a big guide on how to set up all of the continuity features (including text messaging from your Mac) here: Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support.

There is a huge difference between sending email and sending messages.
Yes, I believe you when you say you can only send messages to other Apple products.  The iPad is not a telephone, and therefore, it cannot text message.  It can only iMessage, which means it can send and receive messages to/from other Apple products if they are on WiFi or an iMessage capable cellular network.
Email, however, is a whole different category.  I don't really think you can only exchange email with other Apple products only.  Make sure you have correctly identified the symptoms.

All iOS devices are made at the same factories in China for world wide distribution .
The only difference is that some Middle East governments forbid the shipping of devices with Facetime and Apple are required to remove it from shipments to certain Countries

i have OSX 10.5.8. How do i update that so i can sync with current apple products?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Difference between Apple products purchased around the world

I travel/based all over the world and I have noticed the difference in prices when taking into account the exchange rate.
    Apple TV $99, £99, €102
If I purchased the Apple TV in one country (for example US or Europe) will it work on an English, UK TV, when I eventually return home?
Another question is whether products bought in one country can be used with other mac products purchased from another country.  Are they all compatible.
    Many Thanks

The only difference between an Apple TV bought in one location and in another is the plug at the end of the power cord. Any Apple TV you purchase in any location will work in another.
On the other matter, all hardware from any location is compatible with hardware from another. One thing you should remember however is that not all hardware has a universal aspect to it like the Apple TV, you should ensure that anything you purchase in one location will work on the voltage provided in another.
The main difference between Apple products from different locations is related to services, for example in the case of the Apple TV whilst the hardware is exactly the same, there are services for example which you might find in the US that aren't available elsewhere, such as re-downloadable movies.

  • Sync folders between Apple devices

Hello, I am a new user of Mac.
How can I sync folders between my apple devices such as MBP, iMac and Ipad. (time capsule available)
I would like to sync the folders on my home wifi. (not on cloud)
Whenever i use the MBP out of my home for work and amend a document. When I am home I would like files /folder to sync automatically between my MBP and iMac.
How should I go about it. Thank you in advance.

Microsoft publish the settings needed for Hotmail Imap, they work, use them.
    They are:
    For incoming connections:
    Server address: "imap-mail.outlook.com"
    Server port: "993"
    Encryption type: "SSL"
    For outgoing connections:
    Server address: "smtp-mail.outlook.com"
    Server port: "587"
Encryption type: "TLS" ("SSL" can be used if TLS is not an option)

  • How to sync messages between computer and iPhone?

Is there a way to automatically sync messages on my mac with messages on my iPhone?  Currently if I receive a message it appears on both the Mac and the phone.  However, if I delete the message from the iPhone it is not deleted from messages on my Mac until I do so manually.  Thanks!

"Currently if I receive a message it appears on both the Mac and the phone.  However, if I delete the message from the iPhone it is not deleted from messages on my Mac until I do so manually."
That's the way it's going to work. Manually.
But to make sure post in the iPhone forum where those experts are.

  • Syncing Messages between iPhone 5(iOS 6.0.1) and Mac (OS X 10.8.2)

I am using imessage/messages on my iPhone 5, iMac, and Macbook Pro. I have the latest OS installed on each, email address set on each, and it syncs between all 3 devices as far as sending and receiving messages, but when I delete messages, I have to do it individually on all 3 devices. Is there any way to get my messages deleted an all 3 devices at once, in other words, sync the deleting funtion?

Not that I'm aware of. I've always manually deleted message from each device.

  • Can u sync messages between ipad and iphone

I have IPAD2 and Iphone 3GS, how can I receive all messages on both devices?

Thanks for the info.  My devices are now in sync after applying the changes as recommended.  However, I need to add one more thing for this to work.  The other party would also need to specify their apple-id in caller-id.  The synchronization worked after I changed my children's Iphones caller id's to their respective apple-ids.  Maybe coincidence but it worked for me......hope this helps.

  • Syncing messages between two iPhones

I have been using an "illegally" unlocked 2G (I live overseas). I finally purchased a factory unlocked 3G and got it all synced with the 2G.
For whatever reason I didn't start using it straight away, so I have a buildup of messages that I would like to transfer to the 3G. I was able to sync my calendar and my contacts, but I can't seem to get the messages to move over to the 3G.
    Any tips?
    Thanks,
roxpat, who will start using the 3G immediately once this gets resolved

There are 2 ways to transfer the messages - it isn't done by syncing.
1.(Free) Backup your 2G phone and restore the 3G using the 2G backup. The downside is all the settings and app data in the 2G will replace what is in the 3G.
2.(not free) Get PhoneView and install on your Mac. This will allow you to copy virtually everything from your 2G to your Mac, then selectively copy what you want to your 3G.

  • Syncing Contacts across Apple products

I have all my contacts on my BB and now have a Macbook, Ipad and Iphone4, how do I best upload my contacts across all of them, without iCLOUD?

I too have no desire to put my contacts in the Icloud. I have MacBook Pro, Ipad 2 and Ipod Touch. Here is the workaround I came up with last night so that I do not have to hand enter all updates and new people to Contacts on all three devices..
Ok so you have three devices with Contacts. You want to update a friend's work phone.
Here’s what you do: update the contact on one device. Then while you are in Contacts click on the arrow in the right hand bottom corner and tell it you want to email that contact card to yourself.
Open the email with the contact card on Device Two and click on the .vcf file that is attached. It will then save/update the contact information in that Device Two's  Contacts.
Open the email with the contact card on Device Three and repeat the process.
Walah! you can update without retyping the information three times and you can keep your personal information and other people's contact information out of the Cloud.
I keep waiting for Apple to update Maverick and restore our ability to sync Contacts, Calendar and Booksmarks via I-Tunes and without using the Cloud.

i have iphone macbook pro and a ipad, and everytime i go into my mail, i have to delete all my emails on each device ! its sooo annoying,  i use my hotmail account cos ive had it for years and dont want to change it. help me

Hotmail has recently added Imap to its protocols, if you change from POP to Imap on all of your devices as well as your Mac they will all stay in sync.
Here are the settings for Hotmail Imap.
    For incoming connections:
    Server address: "imap-mail.outlook.com"
    Server port: "993"
    Encryption type: "SSL"
    For outgoing connections:

  • HT201317 Transferring files between apple products

How does my iphone take pictures and it transfer to my macbook pro on icloud? I have an ipad, iphone and macbook. I cannot figure out how to make them all talk to each other on icloud even though they are all connected to the same account.

First, make sure you meet the requirements for icloud on those devices.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
If they do, and you're signed in with the same apple ID, turn on photo stream.  On the macbook, in iPhoto, there is a photostream entry on the left side you can click.
