Sync Method

Hello,
Is that a way to recovery cache if i didn't called the sync method ? For example, i have an instance of BTreeDatabase and i'm putting some data, then, my software crashes, how can i create another instance of BTree and recovery non flushed data ?

Is that a way to recovery cache if i didn't called the sync method ?No. Are you using the transactional data store? If you do use TDS and you don't specify DB_TXN_WRITE_NOSYNC or DB_TXN_NOSYNC, Berkeley DB will write/synchronously flush the log on transaction commit.
If you don't use TDS, but CDS, if the software crashes, after the application has modified a database and has not subsequently flushed the database to stable storage (by calling either the DB->close(), DB->sync() or DB_ENV->memp_sync() methods), the data in the cache will be lost and the database may be left in a corrupted state and you'll have to verify it and depending on what db_verify says, continue as it is, remove or re-create it.

Berkeley DB JE is getting hanged while calling environment sync method.

I am developing an application in Java and I am using JE edition of Berkeley. I am facing an issue, during shutdown operation I am calling syn method of EntityStore class and Environment class.
The EntityStore.sync() is getting completed but during executing of Environment.sync() the control is not coming out of this statement. Below is the code that I am using to perform sync operation.

During my unit testing I was changing system date and perfoming some db operation. While I during down the application the the above code gets executed but the system is getting hanged and control is not coming out of Environment sync method call. Can some one tell why the sync is causing the system to hang.

Sync method on Agentry-Based Apps..

Hi,
I would like to know if I can configure on Agentry platform, the transmit method to be online. I mean when an user save the data on the App, inmediately the App transmit the changes (Save + Transmit) and update the backend. Is this can be done/configure??
Another question that I have is: Can I separate the sync method within the users? I mean, one set of users have the oportunity of work offline: save locally and then transmit when the network is available and, other set of users only work online (save, transmit and update data in backend in real-time)

Hi,
In order to configure agentry applications to work online we have two options,first is the push mechanism where if any changes are done to the back end objects of concern to the mobile application, those changes will be pushed automatically to the mobile device without performing synchronization.(Pushing back end objects to front end automatically).
Second in order to update the data from mobile device to back end we can make use of background sending functionality,this feature combines both transmit and save.Once you enable background sending,immediately after saving the transaction it will be updated to back end automatically.

May be we can modify transmit configurations to work online and offline for users

Why is "Timecode" not available as an Angle Sync method when creating a Multicam Clip?

I shoot on three cameras in XDCAM HD1080i60.
They all have jammed timecode.
I import (through XDCAM transfer, and then import the files through FCP X)
I assign camera angles (1, 2 and 3) to the clips
I attempt to make a multicam clip and use timecode as a sync method.
I see this:
Can't select timecode. What's the deal?
Everything is up to date. Everything is local (though it was captured to a shared fiber drive and then copied to my iMac.) The clips all have the correct timecode embedded.

Don't know. It appears for me. Are all the clips using the same kind of timecode.

3rd Gen iPod Touch & Best "syncing" methods

my first gen 32GB iPod Touch recently bit the dust and was replaced with a 3rd gen version and I thought that "backing up this iPod" would back up apps, etc. but just backed up the Notes and some settings within the iPod.
Which I found out when I restored it to the new iPod, not to mention everytime i connect the new iPod with the restored version of the old iPod to itunes it always says it "crashed" yet I have no idea what exactly crashed even looking at the logs.
So i wanted to reformat it again and start over with being able to back up the Apps. My only dilemma is that I use multiple systems through out the day.
At home i have my 27" iMac with my main iTunes library attached to it and drag & drop music to the iPod.
And a 17" MacBookPro at work that i bring my external drive with to put music on the ipod and the itunes library there.
I have only ever used manually manage my iPod for music & media. So this whole sycning process is somewhat new to me and trying to get a best possible way to get it done.
Basically I wanna still be able to drag & drop music to my ipod from both Work & Home Machines.
But I also plan on syncing Applications & Calander since I realize that they dont back up during a Back Up process in iTunes & syncing seems to be the best method.
I just dont want it to erase my Apps & Cal info when I plug it into my work machine which has different Cal events and I want to download apps on itunes at work machine as well.
So is there a way to include both Work Cal & Home Cal info.
AS well as add apps from the work machine & the home machine?

Differences in sync method?

I want to sync music and photos manually. The apple tech told me to leave all items in the Summary tab unchecked. What is the difference if I leave them all unchecked or just check the "Manually manage music..."?

The iPhone does not support what is called disk mode - to be used as an external drive.
When using manually manage music and video with an iPhone, this requires manually dragging iTunes content from your iTunes library to your iPhone.
I'm not sure if checking or not checking iTunes content makes any difference when manually managing music and video.
It is my understanding checking or not checking iTunes content is for syncing purposes only.
I sync Playlists. I have a primary Playlist I named iPhone. I transfer music from my iTunes library to my iPhone playlist that I want available on my iPhone, and remove music from the Playlist I want removed from my iPhone.
Personal preference but I see no great advantage to manually managing music and video with an iPhone.

Address Book-changing sync method?

When I sync'd for the first time, I was asked how I wanted to do it, "merge, erase, etc." Now I need to change from one to another. How do I do that?

Actually, the app is not Address Book, it is Contacts. On the Mac, it is Address Book.

Why is contact sync from iphone or ipad to local iMac address book gone?

An option for syncing contacts from iphone or ipad to iMac seems to be gone. From searching other posts on this topic, I see where contact sync is now "through iCloud" but is this the EXCLUSIVE choice for syncing contacts? In other words, there is no longer any sync of contacts NOT through iCloud; I cannot sync contacts from my iPhone to my iMac without it all being stored in the cloud.
This is absurd. My iCloud was hacked (not a password issue on my iMac or any local trojan/etc there are support threads about this) and tons of spam sent to my contacts when I used to sync through the cloud. I turned off iCloud sync for contacts and opted instead to sync from phone to mac and from iPad to mac and this was working just fine, keeping me nice and updated every day no matter where I modified any contacts.
Now it seems that is no longer possible. Is this by design? Why on earth was this removed? Is it a "feature" of these new products to remove working sync methods and force everything through the cloud??

The ability to sync contacts, calendar and browser bookmarks directly from a Mac running Mavericks to an IOS device via USB or WiFi has indeed been removed. Synching through iCloud, Exchange, WebDAV or a similar cloud service is the only option now. You can comment to Apple in this issue via their feedback page, if you wish:

How do I restore the white sync button on iPhone 4s?

Last night I was attempting to add a Kindle book to my iPhone via the sync method. Something has gotten corrupted, as my iPhone no longer shows the white sync button option, under the iTunes /wifi option in settings. When I open iTunes, it sees the iphone. If I try and drag a file to the iPhone, the item bar is transparent and doesn't allow the action. I restored the phone, but to no avail. I no longer have the ability to manually sync my phone by pressing the white sync now button, that was previously showing on the phone. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

You can delete an item from Safari's reading list by swiping it and then tapping "delete".

Struggling with itunes, will only open after several attempts. When I attach my ipod it starts to sync and shows step 1 of 5 but only gets so far and then stops. I left the ipod connected

It won't even let me closedown itunes, just freezes and I end up having to switch off my laptop and restart. It's only recently that it started doing this and I've just bought an ipad so I'd like to get the problem sorted as I can't sync that until I do.

I had a similar problem, all you can do at present to rectify this is to grab your playlist or new created playlist or song from the main library or playlist and drop it into the ipod tab under devices and it will auto sync the changes or songs. Hope this helps.
There seems to be a problem with the syncing of itunes 11 (mine is 11.0.5) when you just use the normal sync method. the above should work and has worked for me when transfering a playlist straight into the ipod it automatically syncs.

I want to sync my ipod touch on itunes but it is telling me that i can only open it on one, what can i do so i won't have to delete anything and still be able to sync in?

my computer got all messed up so now i am using a different user on the computer to use it. iTunes isn't letting me sync my ipod touch 4g. It keeps on saying "This ipod is synced with another iTunes library. An iPOd can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time." I don't think i want to try the erase and sync method because i think it will delete everything. Is there anyway that i can sync my ipod into this iTunes and not have everything deleted?

TS1314 I have lots of organized photos on my PC and I want to keep them organized to sync to ipad.... how is the best way to do this?

I have spent a lot of time saving, organizing and arranging photos (for the last 7 years) on my PC, and would like to know the best way to transfer these, AND MAINTAIN THE ORGANIZATION OF THE FOLDERS, to my new ipad (and later, my iphone). I have a really good system, and I do not want to have to do it all over again, on the ipad. I DO NOT want to subscribe to another monthly service fee (i.e. the iCloud) but DO have iTunes on my PC.
What is the simplest method to do this ? I have tried synching, but, each time have lost photos (on my ipad) OR have had NO ORGANIZATION AT ALL to the photos once synced. I have all these photos (5.6gb) in the My Pictures folder, then subdivided into years, then subdivided into events and months within the years. So, my transfer of the My Picures folder, completely transfers all of them, but with NO further organization. Again, I have spent years doing this, and don't want to have to re-invent the wheel.
Can someone advise (or even better, lead me to a youtube video) that accurately shows the best way to do this ?

Correct, it will only be one-level, the Photos app doesn't support sub-albums - the sub-folders photos will be included in the parent's album.
If you select My Pictures at the top of the Photos tab when syncing, then you should get an album for each folder that is directly under it - so if I understand correctly what you described then that would mean an album for 2013, one for 2012 etc. And each of those should include all the photos in the subfolders under it - so 2013 would include the photos from the events and months subfolders under it.
You can't sync them separately, only the contents of the last sync remains on the iPad, by not including a folder in the next photo sync you are effectively telling iTunes that you no longer want that folder/album on the iPad so it will be removed and be replaced by the contents of the new sync (you can't delete synced photos directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next sync).
The app that I use, Photo Manager Pro, allows you to select and copy a folder (via FTP), but you would need to select each subfolder individually, which if you have a lot would be time-consuming (I think that if you select '2013' it would ignore the folders beneath it).

I have been using Appigo's ToDo Task Manager app on my Touch for almost 3 years now. With their Appgio Sync conduit, I have been able to seemlessly bi-directionally sync between the Touch and Outlook Tasks on my Desktop. Now Appigo is no longer going to support Appigo Sync. I can keep using this sync conduit BUT I will no longer be able to update my Touch's ToDo app (eventually that will be a problem).
I DO NOT use iCloud and do NOT wish to use iCloud. I also do not wish to keep my tasks (which do contain confidential information) on anyone else's cloud server. Hence, I need the ability to direct sync between my Touch and my desktop.
I've been searching the web and the App Store looking for either a way to keep using ToDo with another sync method, OR another app that will allow syncing between the it on the Touch and my Desktop.
I don't care about syncing emails since they get downloaded on my Touch regardless. I don't care about syncing Calendars and Contacts since that happens whenever I sync my Touch to iTunes. Just Outlook Tasks that need to be synced. I also don't care for Reminders - seems like a waste of space IMHO.
I can't be the only person on the planet that doesn't want to use a cloud server, doesn't have an email exchange server and wants to keep tasks in both handheld device and desktop in sync. Please, please, please, any and all suggestions and help will be most appreciated!! IF I need to go to iOS v 6+, then I will need to purchase a new iPod Touch; a huge expense when the Touch I have is still working fine (but if one has to, one has to).

I'm in a similar position. Just recently migrated to iPhone from Blackberry (and liking it) but would only do so after confirming that I could sync Outlook tasks to the iPhone. Using ToDo and Appigo sync was the solution and it has worked fine. And I deal with Calendar and Contacts in a similar fashion as you.
I'm not sure I understand the options. I don't have a basic "cloud as a process objection" and cost isn't an issue.But I do want my tasks to end up synced on both my laptop (on the hard drive) and on my iPhone (and soon to come iPad). A variation on your question. Is there no way to do this?

IPod Classic Starts to Sync But Stops After 5 Seconds

I'd appreciate help with this...
Two days ago, my iPod Classic stopped syncing. I don't think this is the situation where the device is not recognized. When I connect with the USB, the iPod appears in iTunes and it starts to sync but then stops after about 5 seconds. I have the latest iTunes (11.0.5) and iPod software; I re-set the iPod; and I ran a check for errors on the iPod, but it came back clean; I can't erase the latest backup in Properties because it's empty.
Here's what I don't understand - I ran a diagnostic on the connection but it was ok; when I ran a diagnostic on sync, it said no iPod was found -- even though I had the same connection when I ran the diagnostic a few seconds earlier. I know that the iPod is recognized because I can drag podcasts onto the iPod when it's connected.
Any ideas? I'd rather not have to reinstall iTunes.

Syncing iPod touch is like playing in the lottery

When I sync my iPod touch 4G, it'll begin its normal sync method of backing up, syncing contacts, ect... But more recently, it has been stumbling on backing up(which more or less I'll refer to as "syncing" for simplification here). It'll take about 5 minutes roughly before giving the filling sync bar, and then either it fails to finish and report a problem, or actually slows there at the end for a little before it finishes and then procedes to the next steps. When it fails to finish, I've left it there for a few hours and it still hasn't budged, whereas when it does succeed, it takes under 15-30 minutes. Sometimes it even skips over this step, and when I do retry syncing my iPod, I always have to force turn it off because it will not power down if I attempt to restart, nor will it actually sync, with iTunes saying it cannot start a sync process and a sync process is already in action. After I power it on, I do a quick restart on it which it does power down normally then, and then gives me another shot at the attempt for the winning lottery ticket in which is a sucessful sync. I have roughly 2/3 of the 64GB iPod full. I started noticing it started having problems when one of my apps has roughly reached what is about 4-8GB of space, not specifically sure how large it is, but that is just an estimate, might even be 10GB or 12GB. Is there something directly related to the size of an app and how it syncs?
I use windows, as I am not a big apple product user, windows 7, and the newest iTunes and iOS software, origional sync cable... If more information is needed, I'll do what I can. I just want to know how to fix this problem. If syncing sucess and failure is directly related to the size of an app (which I do not want to delete because it will erase all the data I have on it), then it seems like this is a rather large flaw as space and apps keep getting bigger and bigger as time goes by.

You also have to bear in mind that UK customs will probably hit you for import duty. They know when something is new and taxable, and they decide whether to tax it, not you. Plus, the delivery company will then add their charge to the tax charge. In other words, because the delivery company has to bill you for the tax, that company charges you for their cost of doing that.
You know that red channel when you return to a UK airport (no, not the "nothing to declare" channel, that's the green one)? You would have to declare such gifts if you physically brought them back into the UK on a plane journey and I'm fairly certain that they would be subject to import duty. Posting them doesn't get round that.
It's a great idea, but it doesn't work. If it does, the saving will be so marginal that you'll wish you hadn't bothered, even if your friends don't charge you for their journey to buy and post them.
