Sync one folder two machines - Is it really that hard.
I have one folder (with a bunch of subfolders totally 3k of image files) I'd like to mirror them on both my laptop and desktop machines.
I'd like the Desktop machine to mirror everything on the laptop and when I travel with the laptop I add images once I return everything new will be copied over.
Things I don't want in this system
• Third party software, If the OSX 10.4.8 can do it all the better
• Having to Manually hit a sync button. (But willing to budge on this one)
• It Making a duplicate copy of the folder each and everytime it connects.
I have looked at a few free items on mac's website:

But I can't seem to get either to work on my machines The script is asking me to do something that I can't even phyically do anymore in 10.4.8

I'm sure many others would, too, but apparently the
ones who do know are doing other things. Considering
it's a weekend, that really shouldn't be surprising.
There are people and companies that give such
immediate service for a fee. Look around and I'm sure
you'll find one that'll offer to not only advise you
but will also create the solution for you. They'll
even you let you have the solution, for a price.
Azqi, please don't belittle me about how the captitalism works in the world. I might been in a small community outside Vancouver that doesn't even have a large MAC dealership who could answer my question. I was already at the shop that does deal in mac because I wanted to SHOP LOCAL. I am perfectly aware I am on a FREE forum and have a life outside of this forum also! I waited four days before I said what I said and before my little question was lost in the forums. If I had 300 responses to my question like yours I'd never return. . . .
I am just saying that it has been a bit of a cold welcome to these forums, as this isn't the first question that has gone unanswered. . . . and thanks to some helpful folks it isn't.

I have use of so many cloud services including the 20gb that Adobe gives me. Is there a way i can sync my catalog on the cloud so that i can have all my metadata on both my laptop and desk top? Using Lightroom Cloud to Sync Catalog Between Two Machines
If you’re running Lightroom on a laptop during your location shoots, you might want to take all the edits, keywords, metadata, and of course the photos themselves, and add them to the Lightroom catalog on your studio computer. It’s easier than it sounds: basically, you choose which catalog to export from your laptop, then you take the folder it creates over to your studio computer and import it.
You need to decide whether you want to export a folder (all the imported photos from your shoot), or a collection (just your Picks from the shoot). In this case, we’ll go with a collection, so go to the Collections panel and click on the collection you want to merge with your main catalog back in your studio. (If you had chosen a folder, the only difference would be you’d go to the Folders panel and click on the folder from that shoot instead. Either way, all the metadata you added, and any edits you made in Lightroom, will still be transferred over to the other machine.)

Not using time Machine.

Syncing one (not two) calendars to Palm

I have two calendars in iCal. One for myself and one for my wife. I only want to sync mine to my Palm, but both seem to merge onto my Palm with a normal hotsync.

If you are using iSync, simply press the Palm icon in the main window to drop down a configuration pane for your device. In that pane, you can choose only the calendar you want to synchronize from the scrollable list in the Calendars section.

Syncing iPhone on two machines....

Hi folks,
I have a MBP at home running Tiger, to which I sync my calendar, contacts, music, etc...
I have a MBP at work running WinXP on Parallels since we use Outlook for our email and calendaring - using MS Exchange Server.
Here's what I want to do and would like to know if it's possible. I want to sync ONLY my calendar from Outlook at work with my iPhone, keeping all the information from my home computer intact. I hope this is clear.
Is this possible? If so, how?

UPDATE:
This is for anyone who may search for the same or similar issue.
For totally unrelated reasons I had to reinstall WindowsXP on the MBP. We upgraded to Parallels 3.0 and had some conflicts, hence the reinstall. During the reinstall process I discovered a USB icon on the bottom-right of the Parallels window. Clicking on this revealed a host of options regarding the use of the USB ports on the MBP. When I inserted the USB cable attached to the iPhone, it appeared in this list of options. When I selected this, iTunes was activated. YAY!
So, I unchecked everything except the Sync with Outlook option and when asked, selected "Merge all Calendar items". This did exactly what I wanted. Now all my Calendar items from both machines are on my iPhone.
Someone give me a star! lol (Just kidding Lounge folks, inside joke)

How do you sync one or two Audiobooks?

I have about 180 books on my computer most downloaded from Audible.com. I only want the few on my IPHONE that I haven't yet listened to. I can't copy individual ones to IPHONE like I could on any of my IPODS, and I don't want to delete all the ones I have listened to from my computer. How can I sync "some" audiobooks with IPHONE. I cut and pasted a few to Party Shuffle play list, but I doubt that will work. Any suggestions?

When I import a cd the files are written into separate folders. I want all the tunes in one folder. How do I do that?

How do I get all the files on a cd into a single folder when I import them in iTunes? It seems to be a wild horse, splitting a cd up into files with one, two, three, or accasionally all of the tunes in one files.

No, that doesn't do it. I just tried to import an opera aria album, all tracks by the same tenor, and he is listed on each. iTunes split it into four albums. On earlier versions I could join tracks, but I don't see any way of doing that in the latest version of iTunes. The help section says to mark all the tracks and then click on the options button and a menu allowing join tracks will appear. It doesn't.
Here's another problem: iTunes consistently truncates the first two tracks, i.e. it eliminates them altogether. Help.

Can I use 'Macintosh HD' folder time machine creates like any other hard drive folder?

Very simply, is it possible, after using Time Machine to back up my Laptop, to use the 'Macintosh HD' Folder it creates like I would any other hard drive by selecting and extracting specific folders and backed up items as I see fit instead of going in to the Time Machine software and asking it to restore the drive to one of its 'backups' -essentially governing what exactly goes back in to my freshly cleared out laptop's internal hard drive? Will I run in to any problems? I am asking as I have picked up a software bug that I need to wipe off laptop hdd that would still be in the backups I have done and go back on to the laptop if I just asked Time Machine to restore.

Is using key events really that hard?

I am trying to implement a keyListener for my application, and it seems
way harder than it should be. My application is simple: A JFrame
with one button and one JPanel upon which I draw. When I click
in the JPanel and type, I want things to happen.
After much looking, it seems I have to not only implement KeyListener,
but also MouseListener, so when the mouse enters I can call
requestFocusInWindow().
That seems to work sometimes, but not when I leave and come back,
and not always when the application first appears.
So do I also have to implement FocusListener?
Why is this so hard to do? MouseListener is very easy to implement,
but KeyListener seems to be a huge pain in the butt.
Can someone point me to a simple tutorial or example that just
has a few swing elements, and processes key events?
I feel like with Java I often try enough things until it finally works,
and never really understand why, and what it was that fixed it.
The documentation and API does not fully describe everything one
needs to know to use the API "properly". Am I the only one frustrated
by this? I have programmed in Java/Swing for years, and JUST LAST
WEEK discovered that when implementing paint in swing, one should
override paintComponent and not paint. But then why does overriding
paint usually work? There are too many quirks in Java that let you
get away with doing things wrong, and then suddenly, your application
is broken. It wouldn't be so bad if the API was more clear on some of
these suble issues.

Elements 9 Organizer only imports one folder at a time

Well I purchased Elements 9 after not being happy with the products included with my camera's.
System is an i950 processor, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, 12 GB RAM, 120GB SSD and a 1 TB hard drive. Basically a system that gives me no trouble with any other software, for the most part, crash free.
I have a home server that runs on a gigabit network.
Pictures folder has about 25000 pictures.
My biggest problem from the beginning was importing my pictures.
I would do an import on the mapped drive for Photos and not all would be imported when I checked back later.
Then the issues increased when I would go in and actually try to import more than one folder at a time. All that would happen would be that the first folders contents would get imported but the second folder would get ignored.
If I highlighted 10 folders, only the first one would import.
Big big pain in the behind when you have things organized properly.
Also, must say that the organizer portion is buggy. Crashes a lot, and on a system like mine it shouldn't be slow to react which it is.
Haven't even got to the editor portion yet. Hope it isn't worse.

Now I don't think this is just one person having the issue, in fact I would check on Amazon as there are a few reviews that state the same type of problems.
Editing seems to be great, it is the organizer that is the issue.
I do feel that Adobe took their time responding on here as you can see from some of the comments.
Being a director for a company that does managed services and network support for customers, I do understand the need for responses in a reasonable amount of time.
I am running off a home server in response to your question.
I have a C: drive that is a 120 GB SSD with 60 GB free.
I have a D drive that is a 1TB drive with over 700 GB free.
1 Gb wired network connection to 1 Gb switches. As I said, I manage an IT company, plus I have 2 degrees in computer science and have been working with PC's since DOS 5, and computers since 1979. I have checked the obvious, and also run Pinnacle Media Studio 14 on the same system and have no issues with anything, and that is video.
If you don't recommend working with files off a network, then this should be stated up front, not as a response to a problem.
Again, no problem with Microsofts built in applications getting pictures, tagging them, and doing face recognition on the same files and folders.
Tried what you suggested.
Have a family folder that has 7 subfolders relating to different people.
Tried to import the family folder....it did, with nothing in it. Had to import the subfolders individually.
Are you being smart with your "awesome" comment?
If you aren't, you may want to rethink how you respond to customers.
Again, this coming from someone who manages service people in this industry.
At the end of all of this, many people are having similar problems due to this slowing down, running things in the background, etc.
If you want to be in a state of blaming the individuals or the network protocols, or what we shouldn't do, then continue and customers will speak with their dollars and their voices on other forums as they are doing right now.
I think Adobe would be much further ahead if they accepted that there are issues and let us buyers know that they are working on it and will fix it.
We will see how the responses you get from others pan out.
As of now, I am using the live gallery that you can download with Windows Live Essentials to organize and it does a great job so far.
Imported all my pictures from my mapped drive, subfolders intact, in fact, I just told it where my picture folders were and it did the rest on it's own.
Just would have been nice having one program to do it all.

Moving topics from one folder to another

Can anybody please help me on this issue. Is there any way i

As Peter said, it all should work fine. If it doesn't your
projwect either suffers from a corrupt CPD-file or there already
exists a file of the same name in the destination folder.
If such a file has been copied there from outside of RH,
you'll have to remove the offending file using Windows Explorer.
If there is no such file, close your project, delete the file
named <projectname>.cpd and open the project again.

I have a big problem and I hope somebody can help.
I transferred 350gb from my SAMSUNG external hard disc to my new Macbook Pro, in order to format it (my external hd) and configure it for Mac as I wasn't able to delete anything off of it, which bugged me. So I did it and everything seemed ok.
Then I formatted my external hard disc and everything was erased from it.
Then, problem begins: One day after, I realized that one folder is missing from the 350gb that I transfered day before, which is very very very important for me.
I tried to recover files from my external drive with a program called StellarPhoenixMacDataRecovery and it did recover everything except for that folder! I tried to find it with Finder and I had no luck. I tried both name of the folder and also the names of the files that folder contained. No luck either. I also tried to list files in Terminal and again, no luck. For some reason, only that one particular folder (that is the most important for me!) is missing.
What could be the problem?
Folder's name contained some German letters and dashes and I was thinking if this maybe caused Mac changing its name and maybe moving it somewhere without me noticing it? Or it's hidden for some reason? Or it's gone forever?
Please help, any idea is much appreciated.

We now have two machines running Snow Leopard.
is there an elegant way to have one home user for both machines that syncs
application support files?

What I have done so far to sync is copy folder from one machine to the other,
so all the entries are accessible on each machine.

It would be brilliant if Apple could make picture folders behave like events in iPhoto. You could see a photo on the folder, and also mouse over it to change pictures.
But no, there's not an application I'm aware of that does this. You can manually make a picture the folder icon, but it's a tedious process.
Unfortunately this is another example of how dated and worn out the Mac's interface is. The concept of using a file folder as the icon for a directory of images is so 80's. You could use coverflow, but that only helps once you're in the directory itself. Or use iPhoto or Aperture, although they just do photos. Or try Lyn as an alternative: it has a sort of iTunes-like interface, and makes it easy to organize photos without having to put them in iPhoto. And it can display photos that are already in Libraries.
But you'd probably need a Finder alternative. I use Leap, which displays any type of document. It also does tagging, which is another huge omission in the Finder. More like Windows Explorer (although still no photo on folder icons).
Another very stylish Finder alternative, especially useful for pictures, is FileBrowse. I don't know why it hasn't gotten more attention. It DOES put photo previews on the folders it shows. And allows one-click expansion to show the photo enlarged. It's super fast, and even allow you to group/sort by camera or flash! It really has to be seen to be appreciated. It works in Lion, although it doesn't seem to be have been updated lately. http://www.filebrowse.com/index.html

Installed firefox on two machines and created sync account on one. The other one does not sync

I just freshly installed the latest Firefox on two machines. Created a new account on one of them and started to download some add-ons and changed the preferences, then got to the other and signed in. It finished syncing but none of my changes were applied to the second machine.

Right now the add-ons got synced but the customization I did to the looks of it did not.
These customizations are: moving the home button right next to the back button and removing the search bar.
Conclusion: it takes a while(about an hour!!!!!) to sync these stuff, at least that is what happened with me though my connection was normal and not slow at all.
