Sync Rented Movies

How do you sync rented movies with Apple Tv software version 2.4 and Itunes 8?

When you rent via the tv, you cannot transfer it to itunes, nor will itunes see the rented movie.
When you rent from itunes, it will show up in itunes as a rental, but you will need to transfer it to the tv for the tv to see it.
So far as I know this has always been the case.
Transferring rentals will look something like this

  • Cannot Sync Rented Movies to Apple TV

I cannot sync rented movies to my Apple TV. I contacted Apple Support and they told me to update my Apple TV software (done), update my iTunes software (done) and reauthorize my computer (done). But it still won't work. It gives me the option to "move" the movie and it starts the syncing process but never finishes the process and never gives any type of error message as to why it does not complete the move. It just moves the movie back to the other side of the "move" screen. I have no problem syncing tv shows to my Apple TV. The Apple rep's response was that he recommended that I not purchase anymore rental movies. Isn't there something else I could try to fix it? Has anyone else encountered this? Thank you very much.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT purchase rental movies in I-Tunes if you want to watch them on Apple TV. I rented "Batman Begins" in I-Tunes and Apple TV says it is "not authorized" to play it. I rented the "Darjeeling Trials", and Apple TV played the first few minutes - but when I paused it and came back to it, it said "this movie has expired" and even deleted the rental from I-Tunes for me - niiiice.
My Apple TV is brand new, latest model, 160GB, latest latest software (downloaded today) and I also have the latest lates (7.1.1) I-Tunes software. IF you download thru I-Tunes, RENTALS DO NOT WORK with this software.
Download direct to Apple TV instead (at least that works... )

  • My iPod won't sync rented movies.

I have a 30g iPod classic (not sure which generation...I bought it around 2005.
I can sync the movies I have purchased, but I cannot sync any rented movies. It won't even appear in my sync window.
    Help?

    Hello PartyOnTheMoon,
I have a 30g iPod classic (not sure which generation...I bought it around 2005.
It sounds like you actually have a 5th Generation iPod video and those are not able to sync rented movies. Sorry.

  • Can't sync rented movie to iPhone

I have a rented movie that is not yet expired and has not been started. I want to move it to my iPhone. The sync starts and after the entire file has been transferred (enough free space on iPhone) an error message pops up saying I cannot sync the movie because a connection to the iTunes store cannot be established. Internet connection is there, of course, and iTunes store works fine. I tried different movies but all having the same problem. Any ideas?

Can't offer any help other than to say I have the same exact problem and have read on this forum where others do as well.
The only solution seems to be to call customer support and get a credit.

  • Exactly How To Sync Rented Movies to iPod 3rd Generation Nano?

I've been looking all around these boards for over an hour and there are definitely topics about the rental movies and the different iPods they will sync with etc etc... I'm having the same troubles a lot of others are, like my rented movies won't show up in the Movies tab. I even dragged the picture of the rented movie to my iPod icon but only the picture moves and nothing else.
*So please, I just need a step by step account of how to sync the movies I rent from iTunes to my 3rd generation iPod nano.* Thank you in advance.

You can't.  iCloud is only compatible with iOS devices running iOS 5 or later.

  • Can't sync rented movie

    Hi,
I recently rented a movie on iTunes for my iPod. However, I cannot seem to sync it. When I plugged my iPod in to sync, I clicked on the movies tab but the rented movie did not show up so I could not transfer it over to my iPod. I also tried clicking on the movies tab below my iPod when I plugged it in but the rented movie did not show up there either. It did finish downloading completely and it is not an HD movie format. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am having the same issue. My purchased TV shows work. Will a purchased movie work on the 5th gen??

  • Can't sync rented movies in iTunes to AppleTV

I recently went on a trip and rented 2 movies that I synced to my iPhone. I ended up not watching either one and when I returned, I moved them from my iPhone back to iTunes on my computer.
I want to watch them on Apple TV before they expire in 20 days, but when I try to sync, neither movie shows up as an option in the Movies tab for Apple TV in iTunes. They do show up in the main iTunes "rented movies" tab for the computer.
Any ideas on how to get them onto Apple TV?
    Thanks in advance.

Yeah... tried that. They said they could not reauthorize. But then said it will easily just sync back to the Mac, before I set up the new unit.
I guess they are closed for the night now - kinda wanted to get the new one set up tonight. Might just abandon that movie ??
Hope the new setup goes OK !? Wonder if iTunes will recognize the new ATV, allow me to give it the same name, etc.
    Here goes ...
    Thanks for reply.

  • HT2729 Syncing rented movies to my new ipad

I rented 6 movies for a long trip.  Only 2 will sync from my computer to my ipad.  Any suggestions?

You have to have an Internet connection in order to move the movies which I assume that you already know, I copied this from another discussion.
To transfer a rented movie from iTunes, use the movies pane in iTunes. Rented movies transfer is at the top. You must have an Internet connection to transfer a rented movie. Select the "move" arrow in the direction you wish to transfer, and click the apply button at the bottom right. Rented movies can only exist on one device at a time, they do not sync like other video, but move from iTunes to the iPad.

  • Trouble syncing rented movie

I recently rented spiderman 3 to watch on a trip and tried to move it to my ipod. itunes went through the whole process of "copying" and then at the end i get the message that itunes couldnt copy to my ipod becuase it couldnt connect to the store. the problem is that my store connection is working, i went there and am downloading a free episode of a tv show right now, so i obviously can connect to the store. any ideas?

I have the same problem except it errors out with an "unknown error" Have tried everything I can think of. Reinstalled iTunes, rebooted, shut down everything but iTunes... gets all the way to the end of the transfer and contacts iTunes store then BAM "unknown error"

  • How do I get a rented movie to sync up to my  Gen 5 iPod?

I can see the rented movie file in the movies subfolder of the iTunes folder that contains my entire library on my desktop HD. My iPod syncs my purchased TV-shows and other ripped video files just fine, but it won't show me a rented movie that has plenty of time before it expires. What gives? Is this another brain dead agreement to appease Hollywood?
Can I set my iPod to manual sync and copy it to a folder that I create.....like rented movies? Can some one give me a clue as I'm heading out of town in about 6 hours?

  • Rented movie apparently not complete, no way to finish, no sync

Rented three movies, including The Bounty Hunter. At one point download stopped due to disk space. I freed up space and continued. I notice even though Bounty Hunter was "finished" its artwork did not appear in the Rented Movies section, instead there's a gray box with film strip. I also noticed it was half the size of the other movies. Upon sync with iPad Bounty Hunter would not sync, giving me an two error messages. First: "Attempting to copy to the disk (my) iPad failed because the disk could not be read from or written to." Second message followed closing that message: "iTunes could not copy "The Bounty Hunter" because the file could not be read or written."
The other two movies sync'd without incident.
I went to Check for Available Downloads, and it said everything is complete. I went back to store and click Rent, and it said I already did and wanted to know if I wanted to rent it again. I see no other means to complete the transfer. Please advise.

Thanks Sarah at Apple for an email answer. File replaced, now working!
