Sync two mac

How can I keep sync all my files (office-word, excel power point, pdf, omnigroup, etc.) on my two macs, one at home the other at work, so if I work on one file at work, as soon as I get home is updated? But I want my files resident on my mac, not on the cloud.
Please advice.
regards,

Use a service such as DropBox or sugarsync, files are kept on all your devices and synced to keep them the same.

  • Syncing two macs: what will work without icloud?

Hello. I'm considering buying a second mac, or finding a totally different solution. One of the key questions is: can i still sync two macs; or: what, if anything at all, will sync, what won't without using icloud (which is  totally out of the question, and please no debate on that in this thread, i simply want to know the facts).
    Thanks a lot

you may be right. The decimus guys however don't even get their own web site together, which doesn't inspire a lot of trust. Besides, what I really want synchronized, and what I don't see in their list, is iCal, Address Book, everything that happens in mail (sent mail appear as sent on both machines even outside imap accounts), and of course it would help to have everything in like the document folder in sync. If reminders and notes would go in sync, too, good.
Now, like I said you're probably right in principle about the two machines situation. But I might consider getting the smallest MacBook, which probably won't match my MacPro, and won't accept a 2560/1600 external monitor either. Don't know yet.
    Thanks

  • Sync two Macs without .mac??

    Hello there...
Is there any way to sync two macs without using .mac? I have a G4 iBook and a G5 iMac and I would like to sync their iCal so both calendars look the same on each computer.
    Thank you for your help.
    Hagen

Free eh? (Why does everybody want something for nothing these days?)
Well, there is notMac, but you need your own server, and alot of time and technical know-how to set it up.
Otherwise nothing free... developers (like regular people) generally like to be paid for their work and long hours.
For $25 you can get iSynCal
For $20 you can get BusySync

  • Using iSync to sync two macs

Is it possible to use iSync to sync two macs?
I use a PowerBook and a Mac Mini and it would be handy if address contacts and calendars could by synced easily.
I would rather not get a .mac account.
Surely another mac should show up when you click 'add device' in iSync?

In addition to the information Julian provided, you can use commercial software as an alternative to .Mac for some synchronization purposes.
SyncTogether from Mark/Space will synchronize five of the six .Mac data categories across user accounts on a single machine, across users on a local area network, and across the internet. Keychain synchronization is not supported.
BusySync from BusyMac provides local area network only synchronization and sharing of otherwise read-only iCal calendars.
You can also investigate such products as SpanningSync for synchronization of iCal calendars using Google, and Plaxo, which offers contact, event and tasks synchronization—in a not quite ready for prime time beta release—for the Address Book and iCal.

  • Best way to sync two Macs?

I recently got a new iMac, which means I now run Mac OS X Lion on an iMac as well as on a MacBook Pro. This means I now need to keep the two machines in sync. I am finding that although iCloud takes care of my calendar, photos, and contacts, it is not useful when it comes to documents and other data. Could someone please suggest the best way of keeping the two Macs in sync?

    Sorry No.
I don't have a need for such syncing.
But the app is around for quite some time and they have a time-limited Trial version.

  • Syncing two Mac Os

I have two Mac OS X 10.1 in my home. I need to sync them because I keep getting two sets of mail and I want to add contacts to my IPad and you can only use one ITune acct. for that. I'm not too computer savvy so of someone has any info I would appreciate it.

To sync/connect to an iPad you need OSX 10.5.8 or later. Also, I do not really understand your problem or what you want. Do you have two computers at your house? Is the Mail account a PP3 or an IMAP account? POP3 account do not rally sync while IMAP sync automatically. Where are the contacts on your computer?

  • Will isync sync two macs?

can you use isync to sync entourage data between an imac and macbook?
    what about documents and such?
    thanks,
    tom

No, iSync is for syncing Contacts and Calendars to supported mobile phones and PDAs.
*.Mac Sync* is for syncing between Macs, but only certain data types - not documents, files etc.
ChronoSync will allow you sync documents and files between Macs.

  • Sync two macs

    Hi all,
I have an intel imac and thinking of buying a macbook, is it possible to sync the two automatically so both machines are almost identical?
    Chris

I use ChronoSync, and it works very well. You would run it on one of your Macs. As long as the other Mac is accessible on the local network (wired or wireless), it will keep two folders in sync. The sync works both ways, so if you update a file on the iMac, that update gets synced to the MacBook. If you update a file on the MacBook, that update gets synced to the iMac. If you happen to update the same file on both Macs between a sync, ChronoSync asks which one you want to keep. The sync can take place manually, or on a defined schedule.
You can even use it between a Mac and an Windows PC.

  • On "Syncing" Two Macs

I have the basic partitioning scheme on both my QS 2002 Dual 1GHz and DA Dual 533:
Leopard 10.5.7 (same on QS and DA)
Tiger 10.4.11 (different ones on my QS and DA)
    Apps
    Docs
I cloned the Leopard partition using CCC 3.2.1 to the DA, and now have a running well legacy Mac under Leopard; but, my User's names are different, so that the Ownership and Permissions aren't quite right on the Docs and Apps partitions, which are also cloned from the QS to the DA (and back). I might decide to use Tiger on the DA, and Leopard only on the QS.
I can use BatChmod to change all Ownership and Permissions on the Apps and Docs partitions, but wondering what kind of trouble I might be asking for ...
I tried using this through BatChmod on the Docs partition:
    localusername Read and Write
    system Read and Write
    everyone Read only
with some success. At least I don't have to keep entering my local admin password to open a file or save one ... now my apps will save modified files to the Docs partition.
One Mac acts as a backup for the other, and I do work on both computers, being that they are in 2 Music Studios in my home. I may add an external backup drive off my QS and do backups to it over my Network using CCC and with Time Machine off the QS ...
How might I better coordinate / sync my files so Ownership and Permissions will not be an issue across machines? Would creating Users on both machines with the same name resolve some of ny issues? and use BatChmod to fix the Ownership and Permissions on both my Apps and Docs partitions?
Seems like Leopard, Tiger and Apps partitions use: system Read and Write, admin Read and Write, and everyone Read only ... and the Docs partition is the one that's off ...
    Suggestions welcomed.

Meant "Ownership and Privileges" in lieu of "Permissions".

  • Syncing two Macs: ChronoSync or Synk?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro and iMac i5, and need to sync their homefolders as easy, fast and overall reliable as possible.
I've stumbled across [ChronoSync|http://www.econtechnologies.com/pages/cs/chrono_overview.html] and [Sync|http://www.decimus.net> - but which one of these would be best to chose for my purpose?
Qualified experiences would be much appreciated.
    Thank you kindly.

I have used Synk for this purpose with much success... however, note that you probably should not try to sync your entire home folder! These are two completely different machines with different hardware and potentially subtly different settings. Syncing everything from your ~/Library/ folder has the potential to cause problems. Only sync what actually needs to be synced.
Also, no matter what you use, you need to take appropriate care. If you use scheduled syncs, you must be cautious when you take the MBP out of the house... if you modified a file on the iMac and then take the MBP off the network before the sync has been done and make more modifications to that same file, you could end up with two versions that can be difficult to reconcile. If you sync manually, you don't have to worry about timing... but then you have to worry about not remembering!

  • Syncing two Macs

    Dear Guys,
I just got a second Mac. I would like to sync my PowerBook (files, mail, calendar, and all) with my second Mac everyday. How do I go about doing that? What software do I use? Appreciate your help.
    Thank you so much.
    Jimmy

    Jimmy:
I am not sure exactly what you mean by synching. If you mean you want the second Mac to be exactly like the first Mac you can use Firewire Target Disk Mode and then use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. To make regular updates (SmartUpdates) with SuperDuper you will need to register your SuperDuper for $8.95. Then you don't need to do a full clone each time. A full clone can take a couple of hours; a SmartUpdate, if done daily, will take about 20 minutes.
Please post back with further questions or comments. If I missed your point, please post back with clarification.
    Good luck.

  • Syncing two macs mail

Hello.. does anyone know how i can sync my smart mailboxes on my desktop mac(imac)
    with my laptop mac (macbook)?

Keep in mind that MobileMe synchronizes mailbox structures, and NOT content. If you want to 'synchronize' the content of mailboxes on both machines, no matter whom the mail provider, you must opt for IMAP technology, rather than POP3.
IMAP effectively 'synchronizes' content by maintaining mail on a server and allowing multiple client views of a mailbox, unlike POP3 which delivers mail to a client by downloading it, then either maintaining a copy on the server or deleting it in accordance with configuration settings you have established for that mailbox. IMAP is a far superior technology, and IMAP options are offered by several major providers, including AOL with AOL Mail or AIM Mail, Apple with MobileMe and Google with GMail.

  • Anyway to sync two Macs with separate libraries?

    Hi
My laptop and desktop have MOST of the same 11,000 songs. But the desktop has the most accurate comments, BPM and genre categorization. The laptop though has extra songs that I brought in via cd. Is there a way to sync/duplicate the desktop's library on the Macbook Pro and yet not lose those extra songs?
I deejay quite a lot but cannot afford to hope that music in the cloud is going to be fast enough in places where there is weak or no signal. Is there a way to sync these two libraries now that iTunes Ranger won't work in Mountain Lion?
    Thanks
    Enio

If all you want to do is copy music from one source to another, the best method would probably be homesharing.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 .
HTH (Also, I hope this wasn't too basic a suggestion for you).

  • Syncing two Macs with Server

I have a 2012 Mini running Server, and a 2012 MBP. The Mini is my main machine, and I use the MBP when I'm outside the house or just sitting on the sofa.
Anyway, I want the MBP to be a mirror of my Mini's user account. Mail is sorted by IMAP servers; I use iCloud for contacts, calendars, photos and iTunes.
But that still leaves the documents. Ideally, I want REAL TIME syncing, like you get with DropBox. But just between the two machines when they are on the same LAN.
Someone has suggested using mobile user accounts, but I'm not sure that's ideal. Am I right that it only syncs when logging out? In any case, the two user accounts are likely to be logged in simultaneously, which is asking for trouble.
I'm surprised this isn't asked more often -- if it has been and my Google fu is lacking, please point me in the right direction. I've looked at other products but most don't offer real time.
    Thanks

FWIW, I've not yet encountered a really good generic real-time documentation synchronization tool — they all have trade-offs.
Having users logged in and active in parallel and the resulting necessity to resolve conflicts is not an easy problem, in the defense of the folks working on this.
The Apple solution here is iCloud for the documents that supports.   I've previously tried using Apple's portable home directories mechanism (PHDs), and those do work but have their own requirements and some limitations — and the requirement to deal with the occasional synch bugs and synch conflicts.
Tools such as rsync and git can be common recommendations with trade-offs, and using those terms and searches for alternatives to DropBox will find you various other discussions.
OwnCloud will be another approach, but with a different approach and with different requirements and limitations.
Of all of these, I'll be next looking at OwnCloud.
