Synching iPhone 3G to two computers

What's your experience about synching the iPhone to two different computers, particularly in my case it will be a mac and a pc. Has anybody had any problems with that? I'm still waiting for my iPhone, but I thought I'd think ahead. Thanks for your input.

i have 2 macs, one for work and one for home, and everytime i synch my calendar with my work one, it deletes my movies (which aren't itunes bought, as well as music. How do i synch to two computers without losing the content i clearly own but which is only on my home computer? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I used to be able to synch calendars, via my Iphone, between my windows-Outlook calendar on my gateway and the ICal on my IMac. Now, for some reason, when I synch with the IMac, via ITunes, everythng on the Iphone is replaced by the info on my Ical even though I request a "merge". Any thoughts as to why?

  • Synching I touch with two computers

I would like to know if it is possible to synch an itouch with two computers, without losing the music that is on the itouch. FYI: First computeris no longer operational due to a virus...
    Thanks

You can sync with only one computer.  However, you can manage music with multiple computers.  See:

  • I have an Iphone 4S and two computers, can I sync with both computers? When I click on manual manage it says I have to delete songs from phone

I have two computers, my desktop has much more music on it, but my laptop is 10 times faster.  I originally sync'd my iphone 4s with the desktop to try and keep the hard drive on the laptop from bogging down.  My desktop is on it's way out and I'm trying to sync with the laptop but itunes won't let me.  When I go into my iphone on the computer I check off to manual manage music and when I hit apply it tells me that the iphone can only be sync'd to one computer and requires the contents of the phone being deleted.  Is there anyway around this or am I going to have to delete everything and go through my laptop?

This is from article on device with multiple computers:
iPod shuffle and iPhone are intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle and iPhone like you can with other devices.

  • One Iphone, one itunes, two computers

Can anyone tell me..I now have two computers authorized under my one account of itunes I added my work PC today). My iphone 3G has only been synced with my home computer. When I sync to my work computer now, will my library transfer to itunes at work? I want to make sure I can have the SAME library on both computers, under the ONE itunes account. Again, I already authorized the second (work) computer. Thanks!!

Depending on how large it is, just copy what you don't have on your laptop from your desktop mac via a thumb drive or a portable hard drive. Go to your home folder>music>itunes>itunes_music and you'll see all your music (assuming you've been using the "keep library organized" setting at its default). Copy to thumb drive. Stick thumb drive in your laptop, launch itunes, choose File>AddtoLibrary and point to your thumbdrive music. Watch it bring in all the tunes.

  • HT1386 This does not work as advertized.  sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.  I have had limited luck with three iphones, ipads and two computers.  Is there a way to set this so it works?

Is there a way to configure sync over wifi in itunes that works.  I have done a bunch of reading and it seems many people are having issues making this work.  My experience is that it sometimes works, and sometimes does not.
I have had limited sucess with three different iphones, ipads, and two different computers and two different wireless networks.
    Same poor sucess as others..
What is advertized by apple does not work 100% of the time.  Is there a fix coming for this.

Agreed about the roses but alas my next project always calls. Actually, I think what happens is I give each project SO much love that when it comes to exporting, I've run out of time.

Then it would not be a default...it would be an option and you already have that option.
Semantics aside, I would love to be able to have it at least default to whatever option was last chosen. Or, perhaps I shouldn't use the word default again...I'd love it to simply remember my preferred setting. That's all.

  • Syncing iPhone music with Two computers is not happening

I had the iPod touch and sold it in anticipation of the iPhone. On the iTouch you could sync it perfectly with two machines even three or four.
My beef is that the music libraries can't be read or added to from more than one computer. I work in a recording studio and am always adding songs from different computers and this feature is crucial. What I always loved doing was plugging in my phone to my home computer and listening to my days work through its speakers. This is very frustrating as every time i want to add a song from home i have to erase all my songs on the iPhone. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK!
Does anyone know a work around for this?

I'm having this problem with purchased ringtones. Unaware of the fact that you can only sync iPhone from only one computer, I purchased several ringtones on another of our authorized computers (same account) while I was literally in another state. When I tried to add them to my iPhone, I got the message telling me my existing iPhone ringtones would be deleted/replaced if I proceeded, so I didn't. Now I have purchased ringtones sitting on a computer that can't be used on the only iPhone I own. This seems an irrational policy.
Since there is only one purpose for ringtones, you should be able to 'add' them to your iPhone when purchased on any of your authorized computers - you have paid for them after all. Is there a way to export them from one authorized computer to another (the one you normally use to sync your iPhone)?

  • How can I choose another computer in the same Wi-Fi network to sync my iPhone, while both two computers' iTunes shows my iPhone on their left list?

I got an iMac first, let me call that iMac "A", and I used to sync my iPhone to A. Then I got a macbook, let me call that macbook "B". When I use B for the first time, I used Migration Assistant to transport all the files and settings from A.
After that, when I use A and B in the same Wi-Fi network, both of their iTunes shows my iPhone on their list. And I can sync my iPhone to both A and B without the warning window showed up.  But, I can't manage both two iTunes library at the same time, so I want to choose only B to sync my iPhone. And I found out that, in fact, my iPhone always trying to sync with A, not B, when I turn on the Wi-Fi sync option. Now I can only use cable to sync my iPhone with B, and that's not over. I found sometimes all of my apps are selected when I tried to sync my iPhone with B, no matter how many times I changed that setting, the next time all the apps will come back to be selected again!
How can let my iPhone forget A and accept B?

Actually I think we need to wait on an update from iTunes to update its compatability with the new iPhone software. They usually release a new version of iTunes with the iOS. So I hope to see an update from apple by the end of the week or maybe even today.
Needless to say. I am experiencing the same issue as well. I've tried all the proposed fixes listed above. It's gotta be a software compatability issue.

  • Best method to synch addy book from two computers not networked together?

I have two Macs, un-networked, and two diff. operating systems. 10.2.8 and 10.3.9. What is the best way to synch em' up on a regular basis? Thanks.

first let me say i dont know if there are any compatability issues with address book in 10.2 and 10.3. I suspect there may be. If not…
get a .mac account - which of course costs
You could alternatively buy some syncing software ( unfortunately there doesnt seem to be any freeware syncing options) and use sometype of transfer medium (usb thumb drive?)

  • Can you sync and iPhone 3GS with two computers?

    Hi all,
I have itunes on 2 different computers - one on a desktop which is the home's media pc and has all the music and films on it.
I also have it on my laptop and this is the machine my iPhone currently syncs with as it hold my contacts, calendar, apps, ringtones etc.
Is there any way that I can put some of my music on my iPhone without physically having to copy the tracks to the hard drive of my laptop?
I've tried this (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202) and it doesn't seem to work.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

It doesn't work, as that article says:
"iPod shuffle and iPhone are intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle and iPhone like you can with other devices."
There is no way to put media content from more than one computer onto an iPhone. You will indeed need to get all the tracks onto whichever computer you wish to have be your primary connection to your iPhone.
    Regards.

  • How can I use iphone 4s on two computers?

We have an iMac that may be dying. (Alas) Our other computer is Windows. On the PC, I just downloaded the latest itunes and used my apple sign-in, but when I attach my iPhone and attempt to drag a podcast from PC to iphone, it won't let me. (I have manual on iphone, not auto syncing.) What can I do to get podcasts from the second computer? It must be possible? Right?
    All advice greatly appreciated.

You will need to "migrate" the itunes data from the Mac to the PC.
Read this great article for some hints on someone else did this very thing:
    http://joshmccarty.com/2011/01/transfer-itunes-library-and-iphone-data-from-mac- to-pc/
It's better to have the Mac still running to make sure the transfer works smoothly.
    Good luck

  • Synching address book across two computers

Why aren't the changes on my second computer showing up when I sync our main laptop to .mac and then tell the second computer to update itself from .mac? I make a lot of changes in address book and want the computers to "match"

    Hi
There are several third-party solutions. When I was without .Mac I used Address-O-Sync. You can find others on versiontracker.

  • Can I sync my iPhone 4 on two computers?

I have been syncing my iPhone on my iMac but just bought a MacBook Pro that I want to take on a trip.  How's the best way to get a duplicate of my music, apps etc. into iTunes on my MacBook Pro.

Transfer your iTunes library from your iMac to your MBP per the instructions included with this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
Or Apple included a Migration Assistant for migrating data from an existing Mac to a new Mac.

  • Can you synch your ipod to two computers? and if so how do you do it?

I have an Ipod that I originally used on one computer. I now want to also set it up using my laptop. Can I do that and if so how do I do that? I signed on my itunes using the same log in and when i plugged in my Ipod and it didnt even recognize that i had an ipod plugged into my computer in my itunes

You can sync to one computer at a time.
When you sync to another it will delete the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
That would have nothing to do with it it not recognizing the device.

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X

  • Using iPhone with two computers

    Home PC - MacBook Pro
    Work PC - Windows
    both running iTunes 7.7
My music is on my home Mac and I manually create playlists, add music etc.
With my 3G Nano, I can connect and listen to songs on my iPod from my work PC. I can't seem to do this with my iPhone - my PC sees the iPhone but all of the music is greyed out and cannot be selected.
Is it a limitation of the iPhone that I cannot use it with two computers in this way, or is it a configuration issue?
I would prefer not to have to buy a set of external speakers just to use my iPhone to play music at work.
    thanks
    Shane

Actually, there are several articles on the web about the fact that you CAN
synch the itunes with two computers. Music, Video, and Ringtones can be done from one computer, and Mail, Contacts, etc. can be done from a second computer.
Just do a Yahoo search on "synching iPhone with two computers."
If you are trying to do music from two computers, you are right, that will not work. There is a program, which I think the Yahoo search above will also uncover that allows you to do a "swap," where you can have the songs from one computer show up on the iPhone, and when you swap, the songs from the other computer show up. I am not sure if this utility survived the upgrage to version 2.0 of the softweare.
    cheers,
    Ray
