Syncing 2 Computers Erases Ringtone?

I have two main computers. One at work and one at home. At work, I sync things such as my work calendar. At home I have fun stuff such as my music library and ringtones.
Until I recently, I had no big issues syncing with two computers. Now, when I sync my work computer to get the calendar, iPhone erases my ringtone and purchased music. Even if I have Sync Ringtones and Sync Music unchecked and I say "No" when asked if I want to overwrite or download.
I can put the purchases back on my phone when I get home Sadly, it means that I can't use my purchased ringtone from the time I sync at work until I get home.
My question
How can I prevent my ringtone and purchased from being erased from my iPhone every time I sync my work calendar?

Hello Mike,
I have iTunes 7.6 and firmware version 1.1.3. I have not tried the sync with ringtone before this version because I didn't have the ringtone before this version.
If I restored the phone, won't that reset the calendar, too? The purpose of syncing was to get an updated calendar.

  • How can I sync the music and ringtones I want from my Mac to my iPhone?

I have an iMac, an iPhone 5s, iTunes 11.1.x, iCloud and iTunes Match. I can't find a combination that will put the music, smart playlists, and ringtones I want on the iPhone. At first iTunes wouldn't sync my ringtones or my smart playlists the iPhone. I finally got the ringtones on but it stubbornly refused to sync a smart playlist of my unrated songs. I turned off iTunes Match and iCloud syncing and managed to get the smart playlist on, but now the ringtones are gone again, including the ones I purchased recently from the ITMS. All I want to do is sync the music, playlists, ringtones, etc. from my master iTunes library on my iMac to my iPhone. The vast majority of my music (7000+ songs) was purchased through iTunes. Some of the ringtones I created from iTunes purchases, some were purchased and downloaded outright. I only care about iCloud as it relates to backing up my contacts, calendar and bookmarks. What combination of turn this on, turn that off and check this box will do this for me? Thanks.

Oops my bad...I see that during my troubleshooting I inadvertently left Ringtones unchecked in iTunes.

  • HT204074 I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. Both run Itunes under same Apple ID account.  How can I sync both computers to a common song library?  ITunes Match?

I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. Both run Itunes under same Apple ID account.  Each computer's itunes library is common by around 75% of the songs.  How can I sync both computers to a common song library, so that all songs can be updated for both computers?  Will ITunes Match do that?

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

About a month ago I was trying to get the pics off my husbands phone into our icloud for printing. It recognized it as my ipod and synced to that, erasing all of his pics. We had just been on a trip to Tahiti and there were alot of pics lost. I spoke to a representative at the apple store on Friday that recommended trying something since it was backed up to my icloud. She was wanted me to try to restore the device back to that date or before. Any tips on how to do this? I have trouble right clicking and am not seeing what she was talking about. i have an old iphone 3gs which is backed up on itunes. bought a new iphone 4gs and need to back it up. will syncing new phone erase old 3gs data?

This is not very iTunes Public Site Manager related... but I was in the same situation as you a little while ago.
    1 - Sync/back up your old 3gs.
2 - Activatie your new phone when connected to itunes via cable and it will ask you if you want to restore our old phone.
    3 - ???
    4 - profitt!
might also work with icloud but i have not tried that method.

  • How do I get my ipod items to go back into my itunes library? When i sync it says if you sync you will erase the contents of my ipod.

My Ipod 60gb has 2600+ Items on it. For some reason my Itunes Library only has 1500+. When I try to sync my Ipod to add new songs it says
if you sync you will erase the contants of your Ipod. Help

Your iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time.  If you try to sync it with another library, it will erase the current contents of the iPod and replace them with the contents from the new library.
If you have content you need to copy from your iPod back to your iTunes library, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer discussing the different ways to do this.

  • Any way to sync between computers?

I can't sync my Tungsten E2 to my Vista 64 computer.  But I can sync to my XP Pro computer (32).  Is there a way to sync between the computers?  Or to use the files on the XP on the Vista 64?
    Thanks,

You cannot sync between computers, What can be done though, to get the data from your E2 to the Vista 64 bit PC is to sync by bluetooth. You can check in your device manager to see if the PC already has bluetooth installed. If it does just find the bluetooth port on your PC, put the E2 a couple of inches away from the PC and in hotsync manager choose to hot sync by bluetooth. If you don't have bluetooth already installed on your PC you will need to purchase a USB bluetooth dongle, install the drivers that come with it and then sync. The first time you sync it could take a little while depending on how much data you have on the device.  Hope this helps.....

  • Why can't apple let us sync two computers over bluetooth?

I am extremely annoyed that mac won't let you sync two computers via bluetooth, when you can easily do it with phones and pdas. It seems to me that it takes the exact same technology to do so, and the only reason mac does not let you sync two computers is that they want to force you to pay $100 for a .mac account. Very Microsoft-like of them. Apple advertises that you can do this function as part of the OSX, but fails to mention it requires additional cost. I hope they provide this in the future.
I've heard a new program, spanning sync, may work, but that is just for your calendar.

    1) Apple always advertised its computer to computer sync'ing as ".Mac sync" (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/dotmacsync/) so I don't see where they "fail to mention it requires .mac" or put that "in the small print no one reads"
    2) Peer-to-peer sync'ing leverages many conceptual problems that sync'ing with a central server does not have. It takes a lot of effort to have proper, reliable, secure, yet simple-to-use peer-to-peer sync'ing. It becomes even worse when more than 2 peers are involved, and becomes a total nightmare when there can be cycles in the sync'ing swarm. Apple took the simpler, reliable approach. Of course, Apple can put money to provide some peer-to-peer solution but it's likely not worth the money yet for Apple.
    3) Third parties can provide peer-to-peer sync'ing in no time (if it were that simple) since Tiger, thanks to Sync Services... yet there isn't many solutions out-there... however, maybe you should take a look on VersionTracker. You might find what you want:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/index.shtml
Remember... sync'ing is never that simple.

  • Sync multiple computers?

Is there any way to sync multiple computers at the same time? Let's say my eMac is used as my main computer...but I also want all my music on my MacBook (which I have not bought yet but will soon)....is there a away to do this at the same time as i Sync the music to the iPod? Or would I have to connect the 2 macs together and do the addition manually? Or is there a way to do it over an airport network?

I do something similar to what you want to do. I used a wired LAN to connect three computers. iTunes on each computer points to the same location for the library, an external hard drive connected to my "main" computer. When I add an album or song I do it on the main computer and then I have to go to each computer and use Add To Library and point to the file(s) created by the main iTunes.
There is also Playlist Sharing, but you can only play songs, not organize them, on any computer but the sharing computer. Any computer can see and play all playists that are shared from any computer.

  • ITunes says in order to sync I must erase all of my songs....

I found my ipod after a year of it being lost and want to add my playlist to my new computer. However, itunes says in order to sync I must erase all of my songs, because my library is on another computer. I do not have the same computer or remember my old account username. How can I add my library onto my new computer without losing any data? I don't have a c.d. burner, so I can't backup my files. This is very frustrating. I am not computer savvy, so if you can explain in laymans terms, that would be an amazing help:) Thanks

  • Syncing two computers via network session

    hi
this topic started out in another thread, really should have it's own though...
so i want to sync two computers via a "network session".
one is a G4 (dual 800 running logic pro 7.2.2) the other is my macbook pro running logic pro 6.4.2.
basically all i am using the macbook for is to playback a quicktime movie...
now i have successfully got the network session going in "Audio Midi Setup", but for the life of me can't get the logic on the macbook pro to slave up. even though mtc is set up and the logic 7.2.2 is set up to send mtc via the network session.
if anyone has any ideas...please feel free...
    cheers, warner

    really?
    cool.
have been researching this a little bit (not that i have the time - just got curious).
there are a couple of relaly interesting apps out there that can take MTC and play video. one in particular was very interesting....check this out:
