Syncing birthdays in iCal with iPhone4

Before updating Snow Leopard to Lion, any birthdays I added to the mac's address book appeared in iCal and also in my iPhone calendar (known as subscriptions - appearing in both calendars as a parcel icon).
however, since updating to Lion, any more birthdays I now add to the mac's address book still appear in iCal, yet do not appear in my iPhone calendar.
I have tried everything I can think of, including "Replace information on this iPhone" prior to syncing, even setting up my iPhone as a new phone, and re-installing all purchased apps.
Today, I had 3 Apple store "Genii" unable to explain this, so I'm hoping for some real expert who can help.

I get this as well, this seems like a pretty bad bug in an ageing population!
If I set a date for a test address birthday to 03/07/1921 it shows in iCal (Leopard 10.5.7) but will not sync to the iPhone (3G/3.0). If I change this to say 02/07/2000 (so it will register as a change) it will sync fine?? No Mobile Me is involved, just a direct sync in iTunes
I've tried disabling the Birthday sync, clearing the iCal cache files, syncing to the iPhone, re-enabling the Birthdays and re-syncing. No Change.
After some testing I discovered that anyone who was born in 1932 or before will never sync to your iPhone using this method, at least in 2009
So if you are younger, you will never remember your Grandparents or maybe even your parents birthdays! If you are older, you'll never remember any of your friends birthdays either!
Pants I think and needs to be fixed ASAP.

When I try to sync my iPod iCal with my MBP (OS 10.7) iCal via iTunes and WiFi I get a message saying "Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" but I am connected to a local network and thus the syncing does not complete because the downloading never completes because I am not connected to the internet.
Why does syncing iCal need Safari Safe Browsing Data?  How can I turn this off?

    See:

  • Unable to Sync Iphone 4s ical with mac (without iCloud)

    Hi there,
I was able to sync perfectly all my iCal info back and forth between my iphone 4s and my Mac (OS X 10.8.5), but now it is impossible.
Went through different discussions involving upgrading to Maverick but I really don't think I have done any upgrade (or is there something automatic I didn't quite get?).
The option to sync the calendars in info in itunes is still there, and it does sync the iphone and the mac icals, but the events don't cross from one to the other.
I gave a try to the iCloud, but honestly it is beyond the absolute opposite of anything practical or efficient. More important I travel a lot between countries with no wifi or internet connection whatsoever, so really need to go back to good ol' sync by usb, getting rid of the iCloud on the way. Can anyone advise how to?
    Many thanks in advance!

  • IPad 2/iPhone 4s synced from iMac iCal with no alerts, creating alerts 15 hours before each event

My wife set up all her work meetings in iCal on her work calendar. Each event has no alert assigned. Right clicking on the work calendar and choosing Get Info, the drop down window shows an option to Ignore Alerts and it is checked.  In iCal Preferences under the Alerts tab, all 3 alerts are set to none.
On the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4s, under Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars - Default Alert Times are set to None while New Invitation Alerts and Shared Calendar Alerts are turned off.
Choose Calendar on the home page to bring up the calendar. then click any of the work events and it shows an alert for 15 hours before the event, and they do go off 15 hours before the events and quite annoying they are. The only way to get rid of the alert, is to go to each individual event, select Edit, select Alert, select None then Done, then Done again and then Save For Future Events since most of the events are repetitive.
Why does syncing the iPad & iPhone add this alert and is there not anyway to not have that happen?  It makes for a very time consuming process to go thru each event on each device to remove this alert.
Some other posts have had a similiar issue with no working fixes. Guess Apple is too busy fixing Maps.   ;-)

  • I can't sync my iCloud calendar with my iPhone calendar

This whole iCloud sync thing has me totally confused. I set my iPhone to sync with my Mac (I thought), yet nothing appears on my Mac computer calendar or my iCloud calendar. I use my iPhone calendar more than any other calendar so I'm constantly needing to transfer to computer and iCloud from iPhone. Why do they not sync? Then there's the issue of creating a google calendar. I can't import anything from anywhere to that. Either I'm brain dead or something is wrong.
    Halp!
    Thanks in advance.

If you sync your desktop iCal with iCLoud and your iPhone with iCloud then they will all be in sync. I do that and my desktop iCal and iPhone Cal are in sync.
If you prefer to not use iCLoud, go to your desktop iTunes, and sync you iPhone with it. On the Info tab select the Sync iCal Calendars.

  • Sync Bold9700 and ical different birthday date

    Hello community,
I sync my Bold 9700 over BB Desktop Manager 2.0 for Mac with ical and the addressbook. In my Bold addressbook I have some contacts with birthday info. After sync the birthdays in ical and addressbook on Mac are one day earlier. For example Peter birthday 03.05.1983 on my Bold contact. At the Mac addressbook Peter birthday 02.05.1983. In ical the birthday are also one day earlier. On my bold after sync they are sill fine. Someone knows this issue or had the same problem?
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi,
I have the same issue with my Torch syncing iCal through BB Desktop 2.0.0.65. Birthdays are changed in iCal after 2nd sync with BB Torch to one day before the actual date. I restored an adressbook copy with the correct dates to my Contacts on my mac and after the first sync it looked fine again. during the second sync however I was asked to change a couple of hundred dates...again! incidently, it makes no difference whether you sync the iCal 'birthday' calendar with the BB or not.
I congratulated my wife a day early... rather confusing it is.
    anyone solved this yet?
Annoyingly, it is all or nothing. You can't choose to sync without making the changes, just by adding new appointments. sync all or none... pity.

  • I'm unable to sync special characters in ical with iCloud

when i add an event into my ical with a special character like a birthday cake for instance. it will show up on my mac and in icloud but icloud will not send that character to the phone, and vice versa.

This is a font issue, a unicode problem and compatibility. If you use a char prsent on your mac, but absent on your iPhone, it is clear to me that they cannot be synced. I do not know exactly what chars are included in iPhone font(s), but some special chars are for sure absent.
such issues are common even in cross-platform transfer and even on mac-to-mac transfer if you use a font present in one mac/pc, but absent in the other.
What specific char did you use, to be more specific? Paste it here, it should work.

  • Sync ical to iphone4S

I have MacbookPro with iCal and purchased a new Iphone4S.  I have paid for ICloud $20.00/year, can't find icon in Macbook under System Preferences.
I want to sync my iCal, messages, photos etc. from MacbookPro to Iphone4S.  I have IOS5 also.  I am lost, please some one help me.  Thank you!

I am VERY angry about this change with Maverick. I resisted installing Maverick for months, and months, and months, and finally caved yesterday, thinking that if I didn't do it I would be stuck at some point soon with apps that no longer worked on the old OS and I would end up having to pay for the upgrade of OS rather than getting it for free.
The fact that I now cannot directly sync iCal with my iPhone without using iCloud is ridiculous. I am being forced to pay to store my data SOMEWHERE ELSE, when I have absolutely NO NEED to do so. I want and need my entire calendar history. It is MY DATA and these devices are preventing me from using it.
My Apple hardware is fairly new, unfortunately, which means I am stuck for a while. But I can assure you that when the time comes, I will not replace my laptop or phone with Apple products. This is such a breach of trust and respect for me as a customer. I deeply resent being manipulated this way.

  • Can I sync my iPhone calendar with exchange server AND ical on my mac ?

I have been happily using my iPhone synced with my Macbook over usb via iTunes.
I have contacts and iCal syncing. I have a number of 'calendars' set up in iCal which allow me to view separate aspects of home and work but they all exist within iCal. iPhone just treats these as colour coded appointments (different colour for each ical calendar)
I really like this set up.
However, I just changed jobs to a firm where they have a hosted outlook exchange set up and I need to use the exchange calendar for work appointments and showing my availability.
I have managed to setup my iPhone to work with the Exchange server for email as well as in apple Mail on my mac. This has all worked fine. However, I hesitated when iPhone asked if i wanted to sync my contacts and calendar. I said no as I was unsure if my private calendar/contacts would be uploaded to the public work area.
In fact it seems that this is the least of my worries:
As I have read on apple support for iPhone:
"Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is overwritten. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services."
So I am really pleased that I didn't let it sync those and wipe out my personal data if that is really true.
But now I am unsure how best to enable myself to view and update the work calendar on exchange.
Also it would be nice to see work contacts on my iPhone.
    Contacts
    - although i have said no to sync contacts with Exchange in fact it looks like I can get contacts ok - when i send email from the Exchange account on the phone , it searches Exchange contacts on the server as i type in the TO box.
    - also in Contacts on the iPhone I have a new group that has been created with the name of my Exchange account. The group appears to be blank when you go into it on the phone, but you can type in the search box and get contact details from the server just fine.
This seems workable for now for my purposes, although updating contacts is not going to be possible that way.
I'd like more info on that if poss but more importantly..
    Calendar
    - Unlike Contacts, no Calendar has been auto created for Exchange
    - Unlike contacts, I can't see how I can view or search or create an appointment in my Exchange calendar on the iPhone
What is the best solution to this problem - I presume lots of people face the same dilemma. My initial research suggests that there are multiple ways round this but all of them look like workarounds with various disavantages.
    Questions are
    - Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
    - Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
    - What is the best work around for this?
At the moment I am seriously considering getting a separate iPhone for work and have that sync with Exchange fully although that seems a bit drastic and does not solve the problem of seeing work and home appointments on the same calendar.

Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
Only if you're running Snow Leopard and your employer will allow access (different than iPhone/mobile device access, so most likely not), but not needed - keep reading.
Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
No. It was true, but with the v3.0 software that changed - you can now sync your Exchange contacts and calendar over the air, and your Address Book and iCal via iTunes over the docking cable.
What is the best work around for this?
None needed. When you set up the exchange account, and choose to turn on syncing of contacts and calendars, you will be prompted to remove all other data, or keep it on the iPhone. Choose the keep option. Note that in that case, your personal data will not be uploaded to the Exchange server - the iPhone keeps them separate (although you can choose to view them in a merged fashion).
I have this set up on my phone (Exchange calendar along side personal and other calendars from iCal). Same for contacts. Works great.
